    He doesn't understand whey the Corolla is so popular? Well here is the answer: you drive the car with no problems for 10 years and after that you still sell it in a very decent ammount of money. There are lot of smart people out there that make the decision that makes more sense from the financial perspective. Mistery solved.

    My dad has owned only one corolla, because it has lasted forever. It was his first, a 1992 Toyota Corolla, and today it still runs like new.

    You nailed it. I feel alot of auto reviews go after the wrong elements. First I work and have a family. I can't afford to have a vehicle that will let me down. I need a car that stays trouble free for a very long time. Some cars have more "options", but will they last as long as the car? Our corolla and camry are 10 & 12 yrs old. Still run, still work. This is why I will only buy a Toyota. The engines are refined and they do what a car should. This s why Toyota is #1 in the world.

    I have a 2013, S package, special edition. I bought a Corolla because they're cheap and reliable. Yeah, some of those other cars had all the tech stuff, more advanced transmissions, etc. but you know what? I don't like being an early adopter. Ask all the Focus owners about their fancy double clutch transmissions....their car stays in the shop, my car with the antiquated 4-speed hasn't been in a mechanic's shop a day in its life. Same with Nissan owners and those garbage CVTs. All the cars in this class have some kind of weakness, if the Corolla's weakness is that it's not on the cutting edge of technology then so what? I need my car to get me to work and get my kids to baseball practice. It's a tool for me, not a lifestyle choice.
    Even so, this generation looks nice, especially in the S trim and especially with the nice 17-inch wheels. I still get lots of compliments. The interior isn't flashy, but I don't like flashy interiors with chrome bits everywhere and swoopy shaped vents and curvy dash lines and blah blah. All that stuff visually overwhelms me. I don't want to feel distracted by the interior of my car. I just want it to be functional and not ugly, and I don't care if it's hard plastic because I don't sit around stroking my hands across the dash ever.
    I figure it'll still be kicking around in 10 years and I'll give it to my kid who'll be old enough to drive by then and he'll drive it for another few years then give it to his brother, and he'll drive it another few years and they'll both probably beat the crap out of it. That's OK. It's just a car.

      The interesting thing about this generation of the Corolla is that the 1.8 L engine paired with the (antiquated) 4 speed automatic transmission delivers very good fuel economy in real world driving. In the summer, it can average 37 US mpg in suburban/city driving with a light foot. I'm pretty sure it could average 40+ US mpg on the highway, if driven steadily at 65 mph.

    I drive a 2012 Corolla. Absolutely the most boring car I've ever owned. However, that being said, it has also been the most dependable and reliable car I've ever owned. When I was car shopping I was looking for a car that would not attract any attention from thieves while parked in a parking structure, would hold its resale value, cost little to maintain, and run for at least 200,000 miles. I found all this in my Corolla, so I bought it. Don't regret it for a moment.

    Toyotas sell amazingly because there the most reliable car, they have good resale value, and if you ever need to change any parts there very cheap. My family has owned one car ever and that is a 1999 Toyota corrola. It's our only car and it's 16 and running good.

    I own a 2005 Toyota Corolla. It boring but its a mpg master 28-31 in the city and 37-41 on highway. It's cheap to run,to insure,and it never breaks down. In a few years I'll probably buy another Corolla just for those reasons.

    Are you sure this is 2012? I had a 2012 corolla LE rental, and the clock was on the top of the dash, not the bottom....like the 2011. I say the only reason people buy these is because of reliablity, ride quality, and its looks seem to last whole other cars lose style in acouple of years. I would chose the cruze, corolla, and civic. Maybe the Hyundai elantra Limited.

    I have owned a Toyota since the 80's, the first being an 87 truck...290K miles and ran perfect. Just rusted out. The rest have been Corolla's. It's not for everyone. I could care a less about style and features. I want a car that when I turn the key it starts....everytime. I want a car that needs no "figuring out" when it comes to driving, like where the hell is the lock, lights, seat adjuster ect. Plus, the re-sell value is fantastic! That's what a Corolla is all about. I absolutely love them!

    Kia's are cheap, Hyundai's are unreliable (in my point of view), I'd go with the Corolla.

  • @conyo985
    @conyo985 11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The reason why Corollas sell well is that it has brand reputation. This is for people that don't take risks and experiment with their car purchases. The tried and tested resale values and reliability are what make it popular. But for me I'd go with other brands because I do take risks and want something exciting to drive everyday. Reliability for me is subjective and I don't care much for resale values. Just my two cents.

  • @HAL-dm1eh
    @HAL-dm1eh 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I don't care what stuff is "rated". My 2010 Corolla S is getting 37-38 mostly highway driving and super reliable. People are emptying their wallets into repairs for those fancy double clutches and CVTs and I'm trucking along reliably in my "boring" Corolla. I have a life so the car is good enough for what I need and is extremely satisfying. I will buy another Toyota when the time comes.

    one reason why people may think the corolla is a horrible car is because its redesign came out back in 2009 & back then the corolla did was better than the many of its competitors at that time it got its update around 2011-2012 but toyota kept with some of the interior design & materials from the 2009 model although the corolla might not have a nicer interior or a flashy exterior the corolla will soon get its redesign by 2013-2014 I think the corolla is the best cars to own its nice and simple!

    love the review dude! I can really feel the frustration and loathing.
    only in a backwards ass culture can reliable and affordable be a bad thing. generally Toyota, specifically Corollas are made for day to day long term practical ownership. people who buy cars every few years won't be interested.

    I own the 2013 Sport Edition and while I like the car very much, over the last year I have often thought that I could have bought a much nicer/better car for the same price. I've owned Toyotas for the last 10 years, (2 Corollas,1 Camry). So I purchased this car based on my history of dependability with the brand. My 2013 Sport is simple inside, and kind of minimalist in design. I would like to have the 2014 interior in my 2013 Exterior.

    After having this car for 10 years and still kicking like when I first bought it new, for the exception of taking it to the body shop for a repaint, it is such an awesome dependable car with a great engine and with just minor common repairs that all cars eventually need. With only a little over 80k miles I am now going to pass this car down for my 17 year old that is an incoming high school senior and hopefully will use it as his college car. As I said earlier, it is very reliable, dependable, and great on gas!!

    I love this car. It looks beautiful, IMO (I personally think it looks better than the Hyundai). Amazingly reliable, and cheap! What's not to love? Sure, they could've gone for a 5 or 6 speed tranny, but honestly, the car cruises at low RPM on the highway, so there isn't a pressing need for one just yet. Let's not forget that aside from upfront price, the cost of ownership for this car is incredibly low. These things just don't break down.

    Nearly. In the most recent studies, Lexus is the most reliable brand in the UK, followed by Toyota. Hyundai is 9th. Daihatsu stopped selling over here in 2009 but Daihatsu is Toyota, one of the same company. Both use the same engines and platforms on later cars, but everything else you said is spot on.

    Hyundai or Kia have never beaten Toyota in reliability surveys, and in fact their reliability record has decreased to somewhat average. Ford is now beating them, and considering Hyundai's are now more expensive than Toyotas, yes you heard right, you'd expect more.Also the Hyundai 5 year warranty isn't as competitive as the Toyota 5 year one, with Hyundai you must replace even things like brake pads at their dealer where they charge way over the odds for them. A £600 service on a Sonata is normal

    This is meant to be a compromise for city and highway driving. Sure, a 6 speed would get slightly better fuel economy, but the 4 speed makes less jerky shifts in the city, and the final drive ratio is as good as the 6 speed.

    Having driven my first corolla today, I beg to differ. Even on this latest generation, everything about it just feels loose and disconnected compared to the Jetta TDI that I regularly drive. It was immediately and blatantly obvious why it sells so well though. However, I really don't agree that a car buying decision should be based solely on the car's reliability, especially when getting the best reliability means missing out on so many other things desirable in a car.

    The Corolla is sold here in Australia with a 6 speed manual but the auto is still a 4 speed. I don't know why Toyota would sell the same car with only a five speed transmission in America when America is such a huge market. Then again still putting a 4 speed auto in a car makes no sense either.

    There are several good cars out there and a Toyota will always get you there, full stop.Im guessing your in the UK. It depends on if you do a lot of miles per year, sort of 15 to 20,000. Because diesels cars are more expensive to buy and insure in the first place, and diesel is more expensive to buy, the costs aren't as apparent as they first appear, and a petrol will always be more refined and quicker than a petrol, and like you say, manufacturers are getting diesel economy from petrol engines

    No, not word-for-word quoted from him. But I figured I would make mention of it since that was kind of his thought process on the subject matter of crucifiably boring cars. I was just trying to dodge anyone commenting on my comment saying "dude you totally stole that idea from Jeremy Clarckson ZOMG!"
    I guess yer damned if you do, damned if you don't.

    Mom has a 2005, grey with grey cloth. I use it to put my 3 year to sleep when she visits. Such a plain uninspired car.

    Mazda 3 sells better than this car in Australia because it is a lot more fun to drive and looks a lot more stylish. I'd choose a Mazda 3 over this car any day. Oh and Mazda's are also extremely reliable. So don't know why someone would want a Corolla... soooo boring

    Civic and Corolla are going to rule the compact car roost until one of the others has proven reliability over a long period time. Of course, thats hard to do when you keep changing the name of your compact (*cough* GM and Chrysler) and you emphasize new technology over proven reliability (Hyundai/Kia and Ford).
    I have a 2012 Civic and its powerplant is proven reliable. I'll let someone else do the durability testing on their money with those DI engines with dual clutch 6 speed automatics's
