  • In today's episode, we waste more time than you could imagine! Well not really, but we were working on the infamous N55 engine in my buddy's 2011 BMW e90 335xi.
    I guess it wasn't all that bad, it now has good bones but a bad problem. We unfortunately find a lingering issue that's plagued the vehicle for a while now. Not only did we upgrade the turbo with a Turbo Parts Canada unit and install an 8hp45 from an xDrive vehicle, the engine has been refreshed for service.
    .... buuuuuut, the N55 gremlins strike again. Stay tuned and see what's developed! Like the thumbnail states, I'm SO over this vehicle. (He should have bought an N54 lol)

    ECU capacitor leaking. Open up the ECU to look for leaking capacitors. The way you describe the issues, it could be this.

      that's what I'm leaning towards, tapping the DME with a snipe is doing some weird things.

  • @icommandoi145

    Low pressure and High pressure fuel pump? Check if you have consistent pressure. Regarding the DME, check each of the mosfets if any are shorted. Something silly as old fuel that's gone bad in the tank (too much water absorbed) can also cause issues in general. PS. Love the work you guys are doing, great job!

      @tony.nextlevelrides  18 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

      thanks! I think we're narrowing it down to the DME. we gave it a couple taps and could read it again for codes. I checked connectors and there were signs of water / dirt in them!

    Check your DME for fuel contamination or any type of corrosion. Take off all your plug connectors on the DME and inspect and make sure they are dry.
    I had this happen to my e70 X5 35D, low pressure fuel line with built in temp/pressure sensor failed allowing diesel through the plug connector which found its way into the DME.
    Long story short, needed a new DME, and wiring harness as per BMW for them to cover the DME under warranty.

    • @tony.nextlevelrides
      @tony.nextlevelrides  16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Taking off the plugs to the DME showed traces of dirt / water intrusion, we saw this and wiggled the DME, ironically it came back to life.
      the fact you got diesel fuel in your DME is insane! I never thought that could happen! I'll check as soon as we pull it out!

      @TTabaei 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@tony.nextlevelrides Makes sense, if the car was sitting outside for a while and if the windshield cowl was damaged or if the drain wasn’t aimed into the fender water could find it’s way to the DME.
      You may be lucky, just clean the corrosion, open up the DME itself and give it a clean and you should be good to go.
      Unfortunately in my scenario I’m pretty sure the diesel fuel destroyed the insulation on the transformer in the DME for the injectors, everything else on the board seemed ok.

    when you can't read codes, is this for just the DME, or everything? if everything, and the CAN bus is daisy chained, it's likely the first module on the chain, if it is NOT daisy chained, thejn you are losing module power somehow to the entire car,
    i know you said you replaced the harness, but have you tried the fuse box? internal shorts in the fuse box can do similar ( seen it on a toyota, and on my Chevrolet beretta, where you could pull every fuse and it would run cause somehow it shorted internally)
    if it is JUST the DME for codes, then it is likely the DME is failing when it's internal temp get's too hot, pull it out of the box and put a fan on it and see if it changes anything. ( you can also remove metal cover and put a fan on it. )

    • @tony.nextlevelrides
      @tony.nextlevelrides  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      seems we're just losing the DME! weren't sure if the CAS was fed power by it or not so narrowed it to the two perhaps.
      Really appreciate the help! Awesome thing to look into. I guess my idea of "put a bag of ice on it" isn't as dumb as I thought. 😅

    25:00 runs on ether? stuff a 1700lph fuel pump in it, their good for 400-600hp on that ethanol junk that has thinners in it that make OEM fuel pumps cavitate. its them and their EPA fuel they sell, not the vehicle. two of the SUM-G3136-2 to pick up feel and shove it into a SUM-230128 with a SUM-250111... the larger gear pumps force it down the line. "tho, does it run on ether, does the fuel rail loose pressure when that happens? 400 or so in parts, free shipping is going on still. ethanol compliance kit up, forced to change equipment because of the stuff they put in gas to demobilize vehicles wandering to far out of their permitted aria!".

      the two 14psi gear pumps pick up fuel and push it into a Y block that connects to a filter and high pressure injector pump, can put a 100 micron filter in front of each lift pump. add other fittings and hoses... fuel economy drops off to 60% of whatever it was after fixing it. was 16.8mpg now 11mpg... E100 everywhere. Summit Pumps need to run wire from the battery for each of them and tie a relay block into the ignition for them... annoying federal structured junk just because its not a $140'000 fresh off the dealer lot the pump station switch board operators in the office $300 miles away watching the security cameras give if junk to make it "konk out". looks very new still they don't Karin anymore because its not on their pay role of bill collections.
