Part of the joy of watching you is that you don’t necessarily “know” what you’re going to do, but allow your art to evolve as you progress! In working that way, you’re not restricted by having to stick to a “plan”! It’s all about the process! As an educator that was one of my mantras in art for young children, process not product!
Concerning your discovering if you have something to offer the world. Above and beyond anything you do with mixed media, I feel your greatest talent is as a teacher. You seem to have organically absorbed within you the understanding of how to explain how to do a thing. It can be mixed media, it can be the beautiful cake designs like you used to do. If you have the knowledge of a subject, you have a natural gift for sharing with others how they, too, can work within the parameters of that subject whatever it may be. TH-cam is filled with tons of art creators. It is not filled with many effective teachers. Teaching is such an important gift. It is a way to change the lives of others. Yes, you create art work. But, more important than that, you effectively show others how to enter the world of creating as well.
I absolutely love the colors you used on this page. Heavenly is the word that comes to mind. But, the words that keep playing in my mind were when you said, “Because it makes me happy!” It made me smile because isn’t this what it’s all about? Thank you for the smiles.
I agree completely. Not just a teacher an exceptional teacher and an inspiration to all. Truly an exceptional man. Thank you for all you give to us all. 😊
One of the things I enjoy most about listening to you is when you talk about changing the way you think and talk about yourself. Your process of accepting what you've learned about how you create, how you live. I'm just starting that process.
I NEVER FUSSY CUT ANTENNAE ON BUTTERFLIES ALL FROM WATCHING CERI...NOW I TELL OTHER COLLAGE ARTISTS TO JUST DRAW THEM IN...THANKS CERI FIR A GREAT TIP!
I so appreciate that you show everything and make sure that you have everything on camera. I watched another couple artists videos and watched one to see how she sewed it on. She sewed it off screen. So disappointing as it was one thing I wanted out of the whole video. Another kept working half off camera. So, thankyou so much for what and how you demonstrate your art. Jocelyn
These Art Dump Journal videos are becoming my favorites. I love brown paper and "junk" materials and I am fascinated by the process, especially when dealing with uncertainty. I'm going to have to come back and watch them again, too. Thank you!!
We all need to lose the “our we good enough” attitude. As long as we are happy and being creative even if we are the only ones who see it…..it is worth the journey.
This can hardly be called a Dump journal any more!!! Ceri, this is a work of art worthy of a frame. Watching your process is also interesting and helpful. Yfs❣️
Oh thank you for the final composition. I was shaking my head and telling you not there, when you were auditioning. It had my husband confused. He thought I was disagreeing with him when he wasn’t even talking. Have a wonderful weekend.
This is an AWESOME page, Ceri!!!!😯😯🤩🤩🤩 I love the color combo, so spring - like.🎉 And I'm going to watch your butterfly tutorial as soon as this finishes! ❣️❣️❣️
It is so lovely Ceri. And your signature for your wipe off or unwasted paint, before and after you spread your lavendar paint on your page, it reminded me of southern states in the USA where there is moss hanging from the trees, and maybe swampy waters, below. But the lavendar made me think of wisteria hanging down from the trees. I think it could very well be a page with water under trees with beautiful floral and perhaps some beautiful tropical birds in the trees. :-) And I applaud you for being true to yourself. I love that you learned from your first page that it was not you, but what you perceived you should be as an artist. The true you is your semetry, and the care you take to make things perfect in your mind. And yes, sometimes we do go back and add to at a later time. And that is alright as well. Because they are our personal journals, and we can give expression to whatever our mind creates. I too create my art like you. Not that I have copied your way, but I have always been an artist that must use sets of threes, and I too begin my masterboards starting from the borders and then work inward. And that is okay that we think that way and we don't need to explain ourselves. The greatest thing we can do to help set our minds free is to quit explaining or justifying why we are doing something. We often think we have to explain everything so others get a full picture. The fact of the matter is that most people don't see mistakes or mishaps in our art unless we bring it to their attention. We don't have to do that unless we want to teach others what Bob Ross used to say about happy accidents. By the way, I live in Muncie, IN where Bob would come to Ball State and do his show here on campus where WLBC studio was housed. By the way, were you born under the sign of Cancer? Just curious, inquiring minds want to know. lol Just do you Ceri! You are beautiful, just the way you are. I love your art and the way you create it. You inspire me.
These 2 pages are Awesome! The comparison you showed is a real upgrade in mixed media! I watched and learnt from this tutorial, and feel I can do it! You are absolutely a great teacher Ceri! 👌❤️
Good afternoon dear Ceri, I can’t tell you have wonderful it is to be taught by you. I still consider myself new to mixed media, and I am having so much fun 😊. I love the layout you created in your dump journal. Purple is one of my fav colours . Thank you for always being so inspiring. Have a blessed weekend, hugs 🤗 ❤
You're darned right. You've got plenty to offer. You've inspired me time and time again. You're very talented and I'm not just saying that to make you feel good. It's the truth in my eyes.
Carol you are such a a lovely , talented person so when I watched the previous video and read the comments i knew you would be back with an update. As always thank you for sharing. ❤
Thank you Cheri for all you do, you inspire us to give things a go, whether it works or not it's all a process we learn as we go along. I do collage, alot I find it so relaxing, there is no right or wrong it is about what feels right for the creator. You are so creative and your videos are a great joy to watch, and I get alotof ideas from them....... Keep doing what you are doing, I enjoy it so much......🌼
I watch your videos religiously. You have inspired me so much. I struggle in life with many things, and you certainly brighten my mood. I discovered art late in life, and although I refuse to acknowledge that I’m an artist, I do sometimes manage to create something worthwhile. Thank you. 🙏💜🇨🇦
Hi Ceri. I could feel the difference in you doing this one vs. the first one. A more relaxed you. So lesson is: Do you, for no one can do it better. 🙂 TFS Hope you have a great day. 🌞
Thank you! Your art is beautiful and your approach to creating shows us that creating is not some rareified activity, reserved for the few who are "blessed by the gods" alone (an attitude I was raised with), and the implication was that my family was not numbered among those happy few. Yes, it takes talent, which you obviously have, but talent is developed, not a gift from birth. Just as we learn to talk, to walk, to read and write, as well as everything else, it is a process of development. Thank you for showing you viewers this important lesson😊.
Ceri, good for you. You are truly a mixed medium artist in the true sense of the word. I am amazed how you can put ink, paint, bubble wrap down and creat a beautiful background page. Thank you for sharing your talent and allowing us to travel with you on your creativity journey.😊
Good morning, Ceri 💙. I so wish I had taken art when I was in school. Well, I think I had one mandatory class but I, too, didn’t have any confidence. I’m so loving your “rawness“ with us. I want to be an artist like you. Your work is so amazing. I love watching you. Thank you for all you do.
Brilliant!!!!! Thank you so much Ceri. I love love love your videos. You are truly an artist. I learn so much from you- not just your amazing techniques but something even deeper- about life and about allowing myself to be me, and owning that. And growing/flourishing/evolving because I am becoming more comfortable just letting myself be me. I feel more confident and open-minded and I can't thank you enough 💓
I think one of the hardest things being an artist is that art makes us show others our vulnerabilities. Did you learn something? Even better! 3. Every piece goes through an "ugly" stage -- push through that and keep going. I see so many people give up and it makes me feel sad. 4. Gesso is your friend and can cover a multitude of art sins. 😂I often cover over things I don't like and use it to knock back elements that are a bit too bold! 5. Experiement! It's only paint and paper! I love this series as it reminds me what I do and I love seeing you do this. Your artwork is outstanding. 🙂 Karen Burchill has a lot of great ideas in her "Accidental Art Journal" series, even though her style isn't mine, it helps a lot. I can't wait to see the other pages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love your journey of discovering, and I am one of the beneficiaries of your endless creativity Ceri❤ thank you so much for sharing for more than great art
Fun spread! All your final details, starting with that luscious violet around the edges, were just perfect. Good to trust your gut - it's pretty savvy 😉. Thanks for sharing! You've inspired me to experiment with clear gessoed brown bag pages (maybe try some other treatments, too) I can't tell for sure, but your pages seem like they have an interesting, tactile quality.
I see a lot of growth between page 1 and page 2. I remember you said in the very beginning you wanted a place you can “dump” stuff without worrying about having it perfect. I think your pages are perfectly imperfect which makes it much more exciting to watch your process. Good job!
Hi Ceri, beautiful page. Yes, you do have much to share with the world. So glad I recently found you and subscribed. Am very happy that you are going to do vids going forward as journal pages in your dump journal. Can't wait to see what you create. Thanks for the inspiration. Helen, Alabama USA

I think pages sticking can be caused by many things in including your weather. I’ve not found that my Matt medium makes the pages sticky however once I’ve completed a piece I normally leave the pages open for a couple of days to full dry, it’s usually wet weather here in Wales. If my pages still stick I then give them a very light coating of wax to seal them in. Here is a video by Jackie Bernardi explaining about the wax uses.

How can you use the “ brown” in the paper as part of your colour experience with the page as part of the experience. Does the substrate have anything to do with this experience?
I think it was just me exploring, I should have used the brown to my advantage not covered it up.
This turned out really nice. I think you’re being too hard on yourself regarding your first page. I like it.
Thank you so much

I like this page a lot. Ceri, it is a “dump” journal, it seems like you want a finished piece? Just a thought….
It’s mainly me dumping spare paint into it then dumping my ideas on a page, a safe place to play and experiment.
