What most people dont realize is when you're starting a Project like this,, you end up being your own mechanic,, and thats where you really start saving money,,,
I have some questions new to bikes and EV’s, on an E-Bike like this what kind of work would you need to do other than maintenance such as keeping up with the chain and brakes?
I just wanted to tell you how much I find your videos useful and informative for people interested in Surron bikes. You answer a lot questions that people probably have, and you clearly explain the process you go through. If I end up getting a Surron (I probably will), it'll be in great part thanks to the information you provided and that contributed to reassure me. Thanks for the great content!
Hey I’m glad I could help. I was in your shoes wondering if they were worth it not too long ago so I’m just trying to put out all the information I can
Use to do Motocross when I was a Kid back in the 80"s ! Now I'm in my 50's and can honestly say that 6 years of Amateur Dirt Bike riding ruined my body !! It has to be one of the most strenuous sports in the world and nobody even thinks about it !
Surron needs to sell a stripped version. What isn’t upgraded? Frame, seat and motor? Suspension, battery, controller, brakes, wheels, tires, foot pegs, handlebars are all big upgrades.
Bro, can you please do a video on performance with the x160 battery and the surron x controller for those curious how just a controller swap would hang? Speed, range etc. just subbed, fucking glad I found your channel!
I am really looking forward to more of this series. Awesome project and thank you, Edwin, for stepping to the plate to help us all discover what is what between these two bikes. For science!
Now if I only had a Segway bike and a few thousand dollars sitting around, I too could have a bike like this...... Edit: The link in the description says it's $3000 but they are actually $3500...Thats like $600 from a Sur Ron, but you still can get this bike then you can do the BAC 4000 or 8000 and it would be cheaper, that might make it be a beast.
It definitely looks to be a quickest bike I would replace the front forks with Fox 40s and the rear shock with the Fox DHX they work nicely on my downhill bike so they should be perfect for the Surron X cheers cool video
This channel really beats the brakes off of cars and cameras and I’d rather be welding. I love all the projects and contraptions all the channels make, but you guys actually ride them! Love to see athletes and experienced riders come up with new toys and really get on them, the other channels ought to just send you their projects to rip around on because watching them gingerly drive them in an open field is frustrating
OS motors are coming out with a clone Sur Ron motor and controller combo but in the 8kW nominal power range. So with a 60v battery, it will have close to the performance of running a 72v battery but you will of course suffer range unless you add a piggyback battery for that extra bit of range. You should check out the Drill one E-bike, the thing is a beast. Nice riding, Edwin, so jealous of your trails, lol.
Very nice! I did the same thing with my original sur ron (bought it right before the x controller became available a few years back) , had a helluva time with the bolts, they were overtorqued like crazy!!! Super sick single track you guys have out there, reminds me of home in southern Oregon.
Would love to see you get a Trampa 100/250A motor controller and testing out the self balancing wheelie mode feature on a bike like this. All you need is another lever on the handlebars to hook up for activating it.
@@EdwinOlding Yep I would say go with the 75V 300A but I think it still does not have a gyro IMU, hit up Trampa and they might want to work out some kind of deal for promotion! For the sur ron x 160, you can use the 60v battery without changing your current standard controller. You really didn't need to change your controller...👍👍 Great job dope vid
The real point though is with a 3k Segway, a what 2K 72 V battery, a new controller, wheels, tires, forks, this thing will be north of 8K just in parts. It has mountain bike brakes but weighs over 100 lbs, can hit speeds way over what those brakes can sustain, that's another upgrade.....That is hard to justify.
Does the Eco/Sport switch still work when upgrading to the Sur Ron X stock controller? Very informative and fun video to watch! Can’t wait for the next on the series as I’m looking to upgrade my x160 just like this. Cheers!
interesting... i was thinking of getting the surron x and upgrading, but if the segway is essentially the same & im upgrading the parts.. why not save a few quid. great video with technical information & tips.
How is this cheaper the x160 is 3500 and the battery alone sells for around 1100 on ebay that’s 4600 not including the controller forks or wheels Am I missing something?
you should upgrade the motor to a X motor because the motor on the x160 has a smaller stator and the magnets are a lot smaller than the X motor it might burn your motor
Hey Edwin... I just realized that I cut the green wire with the black stripe between the controller and the plastic harness. Unfortunately, this made the top speed even slower (only 21 mph). But after reviewing this video again, I think that you cut the same color wire after the plastic harness, which leads to the battery. I reconnected my mistake but I am afraid to cut the wire again before confirming with you. Could you clarify where to cut the green wire with black stripe? I would greatly appreciate it! I guess the “pitfall” is, that people also upgrade all those surron X parts for a reason 😂 so, yeah, you get a cheaper X, but you’ll still need all the same fork, sprocket, wheel, battery and controller upgrades, this time with parts that everyone wants to buy…
This is what I was thinking, if you're spending less then upgrading up to surron parts then the surron upgrades surely will also fit? Seems as though if you're gonna get the segway anyway, it might make more sense to save for longer and get the upgraded parts right off the bat, the biggest chunk of cash will always be the bike itself
@@pocho3881 it isn’t if you already have the parts. x160 is like 3k. By the time you get all the parts to covert it to an x version… (and do all the work). You could just buy a surron and probably save a few bucks. X260 is $4500-5000. X160 like 3k-$3500. Surron $4100.

I’ve done a little research and it looks like the motor is different but not necessarily better or worse I do a whole video on it in the future once I figure out what’s going on
Edwin, I caught the X controller swap in the video but did I miss the part where you swapped the stock x160 battery for a higher output one? Or did this test take place using the x160 battery?
@@EdwinOlding I had the feeling it was a 60v. All good. Just want to make sure those out there that are looking to upgrade understand that simply swapping the controller will not do it, you also need to upgrade the batt. Keep up the good vids!
