- I built my own Surron x starting with a cheaper electric motorcycle model the Segway x160. This is the same bike with smaller forks and tries plus a weaker battery. My first step was to buy a Surron X or X 260 battery then sell in smaller battery. Next I bought dual clamp forks and traded my 17" wheels for the 19s from a Surron X. Get every thing used and save some money! This was a super easy DIY. With a few wrenches and Allen keys you can build your own Surron.

Thank you for this - very informative. for someone intending to build a much upgraded surron x 72v/upgraded controller/supermoto tyres upgraded forks/brakes etc its a no brainer to start with the segway.

I think if I could get a Segway x160, I'd be happy w/ that then I'd upgrade the parts over time whenever I save up enough.... I don't do much off-roading so it would be a street beast for me to get around town and not have to use gasoline, I'd probably look to set up a solar panel so I could charge the bike for free too, a completely emissions free transportation is a dream bike for me. 😁❤️
Honestly I don’t think the solar panel would even be a worth it investment, generally charging these bikes cost Pennies. So even if you charged it every day maybe even multiple times you’d probably spend less than $50 max charging it the entire year

I believe the engine numbers are different on the 160 and light bee S in the newer model… just something to keep in mind not sure if the upgrade path is as vast power wise but probably not an issue. I would have loved a Red Ron! Though powder coating the frame is definitely something I’m going to be doing. Good to see an upload looking forward to the next one!!

@@blocky623 just going off what I’ve read from people on Facebook. I have read the motors may be slightly different. Realistically I don’t think they would be but I haven’t seen both motors split side by side.
@@antssta they are different. they can both still handle 15kws no problem tho so its not really an issue

These are all Chinese sourced components that rebrand locally. Every seemingly specialized component? Yep; it’s a Chinese product. Search long enough and you will find a exact part or one better that is made in China. They are running a decade in advance of our EV understanding.

Holy crap, did not realize the X160 controller can handle 60V (vs the 40V battery it comes with). You just saved me $200 and a drive!
ended up buying a Sur Ron X controller for $150 with a set of 19" wheels for $250 ... figured I might as well try it to see if I can notice a difference. Just installed, initial test only Eco mode seems a bit more torquey, will test further tomorrow. Haven't installed the wheels yet, might do that later tomorrow
upon further testing, the X controller made a HUGE difference in torque and Amperage output. I'm able to go basically full speed up hills now where it was slowing down before
perhaps the significant difference for me is because I'm using a BMS-bypassed battery. I suspect a fully stock battery might not have such a noticeable improvement between controllers
are you using the stock motor still? i have a stock surron battery i don’t think it’s bypassed and i’m tryna figure out if i should try the surron x controller and see if there’s a difference

Awesome video! I'm building a 72v x160 and one thing I noticed was the rear shock is a 9.5x3 where as the X has a 10.5x3.5. not a big deal as I upgraded to a DHX2 but just thought I'd put it out there.

If the motor holds up to the 70 to vote then we know for sure it’s the same!
Are you able to fit a 10.5 shock into the x160? The longer shock stroke would in theory increase real wheel travel.

Nice video sir. I'm looking into getting a sur ron myself. I wad wondering if the Killah fork fits the stock wheels and upgraded tires etc? I actually found those same fork on Facebook for 200$.
My thought was to piece the entire bike out. I’ll be keeping an eye on eBay. Surely there a few scratches frames and swapped out motors.

Killah is easy to broken for damper or seal..fox double crown is good…or maybe rockshox doublecrown…but the stancion maybe to small…fox is 40…rockshox is 38

i got the x160 and change to belt drive and got x controller and x motor upgrades
have you ran into issues with the motor on your x160? its a smaller less powerful motor

so lets say i would buy a x160. Then i would swap the battery to 72 volt and change the controller. Will the motor handle it? And what kind of top speed it would have.
What was the difference between the controllers did you figure out? I just got a surron x controller and am putting it on my x160 with stock 48 battery upgrading battery when I can sell mine

It is different however it can handle a stick 60v battery and you will see a speed increase. To get the full impact you need to swap controller as well

the rear wheel on the x160 is not the same as the rear wheel on the super motos from luna. yes you can put street tires on but it wont be the same.(not worth it)
Obviously it's up to you but personally I'd love to see more riding videos, even if you are just shredding the Grindhard homestead. I'd be curious what time you could get on the course with both the 160 and x and maybe a comparable 2 stroke and 4 stroke.

That was my question. So the motor is not capable of being modified to the 72v battery? That would be my goal with purchasing the x160.
This guy sold me on at least building my husband one of these it's electric big guy myself thankfully from 20 years in the Army and Contracting muscle at the same time I'm 270 lb basically well 250 adding clothes everything else and small pack like I said big question which one of these is the best for big guys because the guy who made this video I'm just going to steal his idea and make that for my husband because they're both around the same size

You should have a vbms app to get reading from the BMS I'm pretty sure light speed uses the 300 amp BMS which will have all the temperature of the batteries and mosfet your BMS can have four additional heat sensors plus voltage sag from each series group I always have my BMS app on my cell phone on when I go riding of course I use 120 amps with 200 amp burst with a 3.2 KW hour battery lots of fun take it easy have a great week.

I have been thinking the same thing. Even if you are going to do a bac4000 60v or 72v with wheels, suspension, ect, why start out with the Surron x that’s a grand more, just start out with the Segway x160 or Surron s so the you have a grand more to spent on upgrades. Great video!
True! All you need is the frame the motor in the wiring harness everything else most people upgrade eventually anyways

The motors between the x160 and x260 are listed different as a 300w brushless vs 700w brushless. Is that not the case?
they are differnt but both can hadle up to 15kws without damage to the motor

This is the question everyone is asking. I've been researching and haven't found a concrete answer yet. But so far, what I've read suggests they're different.
I have both and the difference is the 160 has 48v battery, slightly different controller, worse fork, BUT the motor is the same!
I upgraded my 260 with a BAC 4000 and Chi 60v HD battery. Moved my old 260 battery and controller into my sons 160 and it is just as fast as when my 260 was stock. Hope that helps

the controller and motor ARE NOT THE SAME. HOWEVER the x160 can handle 15kws just like thew sur ron x motor. the controller on the x160 can handle the 60v battery but it wont be the same as a 60v with the X controller.

Hopefully someone can answer this question: I currently own a Sur Ron light bee and a Segway x160. Do the speed controllers have the same tune? If I put the bigger battery in the x160, will it be the same as in the Sur Ron? If I put the 48V battery in the Sur Ron, will it be like the x160, or will it draw too much from the battery?
Also, with the x160, does the green wire with the black stripe need to be cut, or is it just not governed? I know it already reaches speeds over 35mph (according to the speedometer) with the 48V battery whereas the Sur Ron originally stopped at 30. I think I saw in the previous vid that he took the controller off and cut a wire.

@@bloodsport_718nyc never got an answer. Don't cut any wires in x160, just use app. My x160 is actually dead rn and I'm waiting for segway to email me back on a fix.
