Comparing Shumer and Mencia for Rogan is not even comparable to begin with. What is Rogan supposed to do, attack a female on stage like he did Mencia? This is just dumb. Do people not remember that one of the most famous clips from his podcast is when the guy tried to say Shumer did not steal jokes, and Rogan literally destroyed him and made him look like an idiot?

@@onewhitepony Dane Cook was not good timing. Dane Cook created a whole new way of doing comedy, and literally changed the business for everybody. I personally did not find his material funny, but at the same time he deserves praise for what he did. Dane Cook was literally the first social media star, and showed everybody how to use social media as a business. He showed everybody how to use social media to get your name out, and gain a following. Dane Cook actually worked hard making himself a star. Dane Cook being a star had zero to do with timing, he did it himself. Dane Cook used MySpace to become a star, and it worked. Everybody since then has followed the blueprint he gave them. Nobody was doing what Dane Cook was doing back then. Dane Cook is a pioneer, and regardless of being a fan or not, nobody can deny that. Dane Cook was going viral before TH-cam existed. He made millions off the internet before anybody else figured it out. Did it all from MySpace. Literally the exact thing he created, everybody is doing today. So maybe Dane Cook stole a joke or two, but everybody else stole his ideas, so they're even.
I was literally gonna say the same thing, it's why I'll always love Aries he's just fun to listen to.

It’s not about the money. When these big name comics go and do these clubs, they’re auditioning material and ironing out kinks in their act. It’s more of a practice session before they go on tour or do a special.
That’s why you’ll never be successful and the only place that’ll ever be paying you by the hour is a dead end job

From what Ive seen and heard Mencia would do the jokes knowing the comedian he stole them from was going to perfom later the same night. And he got away with it for years until Joe finally had enough.
The difference is joe rogan was calling out carlos on jokes that he 100% knew were taken from him and his friends. Amy had writers that gave her a little wiggle room to hide behind, though i do think she did it

Im a standup. In like 2010 i audition for Whos Got Jokes. Bill Bellamy show. Theres like 100 comics, in a snow storm in Philly and u got 3 mins. Comics travled there from all over the country. Mid show, 2 hours in with 2 more hours to go. Bill goes up and does 25 mins. Like 15 mins in a comic yells "yo Bill, respect the mic we got a lot of comics to go. Bill said like be quiet and did like 10 more mins. Later on a comic goes on stage and says "i apologize Bill that was me that said respect the mic. (90% of the ppl there didnt know who said it. Homie told on himself. They cut his mic and the stage lights off immediately. After the show i found out homie traveled to Philly from Houston just to audition and didnt get to. Smh

D.L Hughley had a joke about wishing evil on your own mother when you're angry. Eddie Murphy had the same joke in 'Delirious'. Three comics lay claim to being the originator of the "Niagara Falls" joke, but it was The Three Stooge that made it legendary. The "Aristocrats" joke was started by one comics (?????) and carried on by hundreds Hundreds HUNDREDS of comics. There is a limit, but stealing is a part of comedy.

Conan O'Brien actually got sued for joke theft, and settled though he acknowledged he did so to save money and time, not because he was guilty.
I consider joke stealing to comedy, the same way I consider plagiarism to academics: it's more about self-governing their industry, than it is about the public. Like I don't cite every single quote I've picked up from books, articles or blog posts I've read over the years, and probably couldn't if you asked me, since I'm under no professional code of ethics to do so.
That said, ever since I learned that a lot of comedians "sell" jokes to other comedians, just like music writers sell songs to each other, I've always known it's impossible for their to not be issue of joke stealing in the industry, you either just haven't heard of it yet, or a comic simply didn't get accused when he was guilty of it, because not enough scrutiny of all his shows, interviews, standup etc were under a microscope.
That said, I think just as is the case with the music industry, where it's ultimately handled by courts and there is no reliance on a "code of ethics" to stop people from stealing lyrics, beats and the rest, that's the only way to really stop or at least limit joke theft.
