One of those "hidden" classics - underrated and beautifully delivered. Elvis was so good at expressing any emotion through song, but in the 70s he certainly could put heartache and remorse across very compellingly.

Really lovely reaction Seph and you really make me laugh to myself here in my collectors bedroom. I love that country twang and 'feel' in Elvis voice. As you know he was very clever to add that twang to every single country song that he sang. And there were loads as you've discovered with still many more to come!😀♥

Yay a quadruple 💣💣💣💣 - beautiful song and performance by Elvis - love it when he puts on his "hurt" voice and some words like "time" just has his own style the way he sings it - so glad you liked it but wouldn't call it a country song more just a pop/ballad but still lovely to listen to 👑💛⭐

You hit the nail on the head with your assumptions this time. It's quite obvious what this song is all about, for me anyway. Very sad but very very good lyrics. It's like he is singing about his own life and mine as well.😢 That's the magic of Elvis, he can penetrate your deepest emotions and it hits you like a ton of bricks, but in a good way. Like a friend that tells you his inner secrets and you feel a bond with him like no one else, bc you share the emotions.

Such a beautiful song in every way. Priscilla left Elvis for her boyfriend, Mike Stone in early 1972. Elvis was with his long-term girlfriend, Linda Thompson before their divorce in 1973 so no, I'm not one who thinks that he was 'pining away' for Priscilla. As was true of so many of his songs, Elvis was exceedingly good at expressing emotion in his songs which was noted well before his divorce; it's actually what he was known for. Great reaction; I'm glad you found an Elvis country song you like.

This was one of my 100 favorite Elvis songs. But in answer to your question, who would leave the Elvis: any woman who had self respect and was tired of being cheated on by the Elvis. Look, I've loved the man practically all my life like he was family. But like family, I knew his faults. He was not faithful to any woman. Saddens me cause he never got to experience real mature love with one woman. The fact that, other than Priscilla, not a single one of his exes had anything bad to say about him, speaks volumes They never stopped loving him even though they walked away. He just wasn't built for marriage. Far too much temptation for him to resist.

The rant made me laugh; love the song. I think Elvis chose sad songs when he was sad, songs that reflected his emotions, not necessarily his exact feelings. (The magic of Elvis - he makes you believe.) He adored his daughter and so his heart was hurt by the breakup of the family home. His ego took a hit when Priscilla chose another man over him. (Personal opinion only here.)
I never blamed her for leaving; it seems EP was incapable of being faithful. (Although I've never had much respect for people who can't leave one relationship without a backup in the wings. For the love of all that is holy, have enough basic self respect and respect for this person to whom you made promises to end it before looking for a replacement. ←My rant for the day. 😅)
On the other hand, she has shown who she is over the years and it isn't pretty. My personal opinion is that she hated Elvis and possibly hated Lisa Marie (maybe because LM was the spitting image of her daddy). The many ways she has repeatedly attacked and vilified a man who is not here to defend himself is despicable. I do have some sympathy for her childhood upbringing, but at some point we all must take responsibility for our own actions. (Not a fan of Priscilla, in case you missed that. 🤣)

Only Genre I dislike is Rap. 99% of rappers freakin mumble and it makes it extremely hard to understand "Drives me crazy". Eminem is an exception to the rule though. I like a few of his raps.

And I don't listen to much contemporary pop, but have recently discovered a real fondness for Charli XCX's "Von dutch".

    - - - - this is more of Adult Contemporary, not so much Country. We are still in this (often) lackluster phase of Elvis' music. This genre won't win Elvis new fans (with some exceptions), and this song is too slow, depressing, and likely more driven by Elvis' emotional state in this period. He won't get out of it until about 1976 with Moody Blue.

Seph, you know I love your channel, but I've found it difficult to watch your recent videos covering Elvis' "divorced dad" phase because you seem to want to put the blame on the woman he's singing about. As others have said, he's clearly singing about his failed marriage to Priscilla at this time, and I think it's irresponsible to point fingers and say things like "how could anyone leave Elvis" and calling her a "silly woman" when the fact of the matter is, none of us were there or in her shoes. Yes, Elvis was a talented singer and an exceptional human being, but that doesn't mean he was necessarily a great romantic partner or a responsible co-parent. He was touring heavily in the 70s and he left Priscilla and Lisa Marie home alone most of the time. He was addicted to the adoration he got from his fans and chased that addiction to the detriment of his personal relationships. Even his close friends and members of the Memphis Mafia who would go on tour with Elvis have said things like, "our wives didn't leave us, we left them." I would implore you to learn more about this time period in Elvis' life before making statements that will fan the flames of certain contingencies of the Elvis fandom who think Priscilla is the Devil incarnate (yes these people exist, some have commented here).
