Yes Michael did not like to swear this is the first time he did it in a song so you can imagine how fed up he was, but it wasn't very easy for him to do that haha, there is a cute video of Michael and Janet writting the lyrics together and Janet wanted him to sing "as jacked as it sounds, the whole system's f*cked" lol and Michael was like "I can't say that!" And like "mother's gonna kill us for this Janet I told you" aww so cute 😂😂❤❤ maybe then he got a little more comfortable, I'm happy he did it cause he needed to make a stronger statement after the accusations, they needed to know he was serious and had enough and came back stronger! This whole album is heavy and his most personal and autobiographical, please go through the lyrics for the songs with videos and do the lyric video for the songs that have no video, they are VERY important ❤

Great review Seph. Been waiting for this. It’s amongst my top 5 MJ moments. I wish Michael and Janet had done more duets together, because this is fire. 🔥
This also still holds the title as the most expensive music video ever produced.
I love the aesthetics, the design, the clothing… btw, not at all 80s, but extremely 90s. 😆
This song came about because of the brutal accusations of MJ and sexual assault of minors. Janet, his baby sister is here to support him.
She performs this live as a tribute to MJ after his passing, and it is also incredible.
Despite MJ advertising that this is it, when putting on his final show, I can’t help but wonder if he would still be performing if he were alive today. One could only hope. I would’ve loved to of seen a Vegas residency.
I often reflect on the art we missed out on when people this talented pass away too soon.

"Scream" is the lead single from Michael Jackson's ninth studio album titled, HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I (1995). It is a duet with his younger sister Janet, and was released as a double A-side with "Childhood", a solo song by Michael. The single was released on May 29, 1995. "Scream" ~ Is an aggressive, retaliatory song directed at the tabloid media and their coverage of the child sexual abuse accusations made against Michael Jackson in 1993. It was written, composed and produced by Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson; Michael played many of the instruments. It incorporates elements of pop, R&B, electrorock, dance-pop, and funk. Recording for Scream took place at the Hit Factory in New York City in October 1994 and at Flyte Tyme Studios in Edina, Minnesota in December 1994. The song was leaked to radio stations early, despite Epic Records' attempt to keep it off air until the release date. Generally well received amongst critics, it has been compared favorably to other songs by Michael Jackson. The corresponding music video remains one of his most critically acclaimed; it won three MTV Video Music Awards and the Grammy Award for Best Music Video. At a cost of $7 million, it was listed in the Guinness World Records as the most expensive music video ever made; however, director Mark Romanek has refuted the claim, saying that there were two other music videos from the same era which cost "millions more" than the video for Scream. Scream would become the first single in the 37-year history of Billboard to debut at number five on the US Billboard Hot 100, where it peaked. Elsewhere, it topped the charts in Italy, New Zealand, and Spain while reaching the top five in Australia, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Michael performed "Scream" on his 1996-1997 HIStory World Tour. Following his death in 2009, Janet performed the song at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards and on her 2011 Number Ones, Up Close and Personal as a tribute to him, the 2015-2016 Unbreakable World Tour, and on several dates of her 2017-2018 State of the World Tour. (MJ was always careful of his language cause of children around the globe who looked up to him but this time HE WAS PISSED! At the tabloid media junk and rightfully so. Also peep how MJ was also into Anime clips of the Zillion anime series and the movie Akira can be seen in the background screens he was also big into anime as well. And MJ was 37 years old at the time of filming, while Janet was 29 years old. Long Live The King Of Music Forever Truly The Greatest Music Artist To Ever Live!👑🔥🌟💯)

I think Micheal after releasing Leave Me Alone and Why You Wanna Trip On Me on his last 2 albums, he felt like they weren't listening to him so he thought he had to be even more aggressive this time, he tried hard not to curse or swear, his 2nd wife even said that personally Michael thought it was not necessary if there were other words to say, and I must say I love this about Michael, it shows you don't need to use these words to be successful, these days so many artists keep saying the f word after every other word, which I don't like, but Michael only did it when he really couldn't take it and didn't know what to say anymore to get his point across, I mean he's been dealing with this for years but after the ridiculous false accusations and the horrible manipulation and treatment of the media, I mean it would lead anyone to a breaking point, that's what they wanted and sadly it didn't get any better from here :( but I'm happy that he stood up for himself on this album!

It wasn't his father he was referring to with 'oh father, please have mercy', it was the 'lord'. And it definitely wasn't about song credits. This is all about the 1993 case and the way the press, not for the last time, completely ignored facts, instead making it a feast for salicious headlines, lies, lies and more lies. To sell papers, to attract viewers. And they bought it. Because the public is hungry for scandal.

I think it's important to add that the song goes on many levels and that it's supposed to be a societal/political song, as well as a personal one and is also showing off the interconnetion between the two perpectives. Most obvious sign of this is the TV in the background of Janet singing the bridge, saying "A man has been brutally beaten to death by police after being wrongly identified as a robbery suspect. The man was an 18-year-old black male".

Hey Seph! You have finally started the HIStory Album!🔥
In this comment i wanna give you information about it, it will be a long comment but i really recommend you to read it (made by me but AI helped me a lot too lol) ⤵️
*HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I* is a double album that features both Michael Jackson's first post-Motown greatest hits collection and his ninth studio release. It was released on June 20, 1995, and marked Michael's fifth project under Epic Records, as well as his debut release through his own label, MJJ Productions. The album consists of two parts:
    - *HIStory Begins* , a compilation of his greatest hits from the albums Off The Wall (1979), Thriller (1982), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991);
    - *HIStory Continues* (which is the one you're reacting to now), which includes new songs written and produced by Michael in collaboration with other artists. It was his first album following the first child sexual abuse allegations made against him in 1993.
The name of the album HIStory has a dual meaning, it can be interpreted as a combination of "His Story," which emphasizes Michael’s personal journey, including his career, struggles, and response to the media and public scrutiny following the child sexual abuse allegations in 1993. At the same time, HIStory also references the broader idea of "history," symbolizing Michael's legacy as a global cultural icon. The album cover further reinforces this dual meaning, featuring a statue of Michael, suggesting both his monumental influence on music and his defiance against the challenges he faced. Through the title, Michael aimed to reclaim his narrative, positioning himself not only as a victim of media mistreatment but also as a central figure in music history.
As you know, starting in the late 1980s, Michael Jackson developed a contentious relationship with the tabloid press. This strained dynamic began in 1986, at the very beginning of the Bad Era, when tabloids fabricated sensational stories about him, such as his supposed use of a hyperbaric oxygen chamber and attempts to buy the bones of Joseph Merrick, known as the "Elephant Man." Michael vehemently denied these rumors, which led to his derogatory nickname "Wacko Jacko," a name he despised. These false reports also prompted him to stop sharing any information with the press. In response, the media began creating their own narratives, further straining the relationship. Michael released the song "Leave Me Alone" in 1989 for the Bad Album, addressing his feelings of victimization by the press. By 1993, in the Dangerous Era, the situation escalated dramatically when Michael was accused of child sexual abuse. Although no charges were filed, the media subjected him to intense and invasive scrutiny during the criminal investigation. The press coverage of the case was often sensationalized, featuring misleading headlines, unflattering photos, and stories that implied his guilt. Some media outlets paid for stories alleging Michael’s criminal behavior and used confidential materials from the investigation. Michael expressed frustration over the media’s manipulation of the allegations, criticizing them for dissecting and distorting the narrative to fit their conclusions. The immense stress from the media attention and allegations led Michael to take painkillers such as Valium, Xanax, and Ativan. His mental and physical health began to deteriorate, and he stopped eating shortly after the accusations became public. This decline forced him to cancel the remainder of his Dangerous World Tour and seek rehabilitation. Michael booked the entire fourth floor of a clinic, where he underwent treatment to wean off painkillers through Valium IV. Throughout this time, the media showed little sympathy. Instead, tabloids like the Daily Mirror mocked him, even running a "Spot the Jacko" contest, where readers could win a trip to Disney World if they predicted his next appearance. The Daily Express and News of the World ran misleading headlines, accusing Michael of being on the run and falsely claiming he had traveled to Europe for cosmetic surgery to make himself unrecognizable. Further, talk show host Geraldo Rivera staged a mock trial with an audience jury in November 1993, despite Michael never being formally charged.
Michael co-wrote and co-produced the majority of the new songs on the album. Many of the 15 new songs directly address the 1993 sexual abuse allegations and Michael's feelings of mistreatment by the media, particularly the tabloids. Because of this, the album has been described as being Michael's most "personal".
Thank you Seph for reading all this long comment haha, can't wait for you to continue this incredible album🔥 In my opinion, this is the album with which you can feel closest to Michael since it's his most personal. You will be fascinated by it i promise (just like all his other albums haha). There's one song in particular that I can't wait for you to react to, I've been waiting for it for months now (i won't tell you which one though yet).
And welcome to the HIStory Era!🔥

I would say it began even earlier in 1984, his manager Frank read a statement written by Michael that year denying he had surgery on his eyes or had taken hormones for his high voice (ridiculous), after 86, it got worse and more constant.. poor Michael had no peace 😢

Most recent one was that Joseph was one of the people against MJ in the copyright dispute. Turns out that wasn't correct. But i had multiple people tell me it 😭
So you telling me here that this entire album was assembled in response to all the crap MJ went through in his life just backs up what I've been told already. It's nice to hear it from you directly 😄
And yes thank you! Brilliant information

    • @AlexSR__
      @AlexSR__ 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

@@SephPlays Yes exactly Seph, this album was basically a response to everything Michael went through in his life up to that point. But not only this obviously, it also expose the system and its corruption, greed, exploitation and injustice. If you remember, this was also said in the Square One documentary. I don't wanna spoil too much though, I just cant wait for you to react to it🔥 And especially that song i was talking about in the comment👀
And yeah Seph, Joseph was not against Michael in the copyright issue in 1993. I think I told you this in the Dangerous Era list already: Michael, Lionel Richie, Rod Temperton and Joseph Jackson were the one accused of copyright infringement. Joseph was with Michael not against him. Thriller, The Girl Is Mine and We Are The World were the songs that the case was concerned with.
One last thing Seph, the next song you're gonna react to is called "They Don't Care About Us". This song has two short films and I put the links of both of them in the list. These versions are the "Brazil Version" and the "Prison Version", what I wanna tell you is to react to the Prison Version first and then react to the Brazil Version. In the list i put the Brazil Version first but react to the Prison Version first.

Hes refering to God the Father. God please have mercy.
Its. Gospel thing. Father please have mercy later on the Blood on The Dancefloor youll hear him say "Holy Mary Mercy Me" and on the unreleased track Monkey Business he says "Lord have mercy"
These are gospel things. Michael was a believer in God and referenced it alot in his music. Somewhere online theres a picture if his notes in the margins of one if his bibles. He left the Jehovas witness religion in the 80's but remained a non-denominational Christian and was highly spiritual all his life and it was all throughout his music.
Also Janets background vocals after the Father Please Have Mercy she says "Lord have mercy" in the background. Definitely not about Joseph.

Over a text or email you can be misinterpreted very easily. You say something and it can be misread and cause an argument.
      For example:
I don't like your shoes, but they are a nice colour.
Some people would take offence to that text and it could start a mini argument about footware.
Where i could mean something completely harmless. What i reallyy meant was: Your shoes are a little dirty and need cleaning BUT! i freakin LOVE the colour of them and i'm jelly!
But because you don't add an "X" at the end or you don't talk about something else with it, they could take it the wrong way.
This is why i NEVER text or email someone and attempt to phone them first. This way it avoids the awkward situations that can happen xD
