Pretty much anything you hear by Elvis will knock your socks off. Equally he could sing gospel, rock, blues, country, ballads and opera.
His grammy awards were for gospel albums I believe. He is amazing in the studio but hes even better live on stage, watch any live shows between 1968 (the comeback special) nd 1972 for his best (in my opinion). If he'd had better management and a lawyer he'd still be with us, like Tom Jones who has the only voice that can compare to Elvis'. Elvis still wins, the greatest of all time.
I've never heard this before, thank you for posting it. Long live the King ❤

You finally listened to it! Yeah! I’m glad that you liked it. Also, no one listened to this with head phones so the drums had to be loud because people played this album on the stereo and danced and did not sit and analyze every little nuance of the orchestration. Also, remember that Elvis arranged everything he recorded! This is one of my favorite songs by Elvis. Thanks for finally reviewing it!

The one line that supposedly changed was where he says I was in the back room rocking on it originally said I was in the back room rockin to the stones. But Elvis didn’t like The Rolling Stones so it was changed.

I bought this album in late ‘73 and was fortunate enough to buy the CD version in the late ‘90s. It was a challenge, I recall, to find a CD version of this album. My two favorite songs from this underrated album are “For ‘Ol Times Sake” & “I Miss You”. Both songs epitomize Elvis’s wistful and melancholy feelings during this time, likely due to his impending divorce from Priscilla. Was it The King’s best album and effort in the ‘70s…hardly. However, it is underrated and IMO it offers a window into Elvis’s life and demeanor at the time.

Kathy's last name spelled out phonetically: West. More. Land.
Pronounced just like it is spelled Seph.
Though since I'm an American I pronounce her last name more like this: West- more- lind.
Maybe it is also because I'm a native of the Mid- Atlantic region of the U.S. Eastern Seaboard.
I tend to shorten some vowel sounds depending on where the vowel or vowels are placed in the word or words.
I can do BANG ON Marisa Tomei in "My Cousin Vinny" impression.
She plays a Brooklyn native who goes with her Brooklyn native lawyer boyfriend down to Alabama.
The reason: Her boyfriend's baby cousin and his friend are accused of a heinous crime while just traveling through a small Alabama town.
So Joe Pesci (the lawyer) really is like a fish out of water down there.
    The movie is a CLASSIC.
Dang. It would be so great to watch your reaction to that movie... DANG IT!
Anyway there's this one part where Marisa Tomei goes off on Joe Pesci when he decides to go deer h*nting with his lawyer opponent.
I'm fair at mimicry depending. I can't do a Southern accent or a British one.
But you want me to do a Marisa Tomei/ Betty Boop impression I'm your girl 😂
Totally agree with your ranking of this one Seph!

    - - - - best song on the album. This is one of those exceptions to the Adult Contemporary genre he did in the mid 70s. LIke the Promised Land album, this boasts one good rocker. Very misleading because the audience expects the rest of the album to be similar pace & theme, but instead, we're treated to slow dancing music, which was a disappointment for me. His producer should have put some livelier themed albums together

  • @Marakesh7

Whilst I personally like this song because of the beat. However, as many fans will know, many of the songs mentioned came after Elvis became famous and therefore the lyrics are historically inaccurate.

    • @christopherdavey2622
      @christopherdavey2622 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yeah it's kinda technically told from the perspective of someone from the generation after Elvis. But it's good. Probably could have been done better. Elvis didn't seem super excited about it but I think most of the songs from this album came from the original Stax sessions when he wasn't really on his game.

When I first heard the song, I scratched my head as the lyrics have one of the biggest rock 'n' roll stars growing up on his own brand of music, as well as that of his peers. It didn't make sense. I guess for the public also not, as the single tanked. I don't like the melody either, this is E rank for me.

Lyrics totally miss the mark! Elvis was one of the most important creators of Rock n Roll so how could he have possibly grown up on rock n roll. Mark James, a brilliant songwriter obviously didn’t write this song FOR Elvis but as Elvis had said for quite a while, good songs were hard to come by. So, at the recording sessions, they often ran out of new material ( thanks to Parker’s idiotic and stubborn decision to hang onto the outdated Hill & Range publishing arrangement where songwriters had to give up 50% of their rights to get Elvis to sing their song). I guess that is how this song got in front of Elvis.
