I'm doing the same at the moment. I'm selling 3 beloved Seikos in order to buy my first luxury piece, Longines Spirit 37.
For 99.9% of us, opportunity cost comes into play. That is, when we want to buy something, we must decide what we're willing to give up in order to do so. Good luck raising the funds.
99.9 % ? That's a whole Lotta broke people , I don't think your figures are right.
I'm curious who the 0.1% are who opportunity cost doesn't apply to, since even someone like Warren Buffett is limited by time and attention, and drives a 5 year old sedan because he said it's not worth a day of his time to research and decide on a new one.
@@UraniumMilk Buffet could simply buy one of each rather than decide, or he could pay some car/life expert to study his life style and make a choice for him. He's a smart and practical man who factors time into decision making, and clearly what car he's driving doesn't much matter to him, relatively speaking. I'd say the .1% (which I accounted for because otherwise someone would call me out for not seeing that there are exceptions) would be a person who has has had to scrimp and struggle financially his or her whole life then wins the lottery and has millions. Another could be an athlete who signs a giant pro contract but has never had to manage money before. Some suddenly wealthy people have no concept of the limits on even millions and would spend as if there are none. Such a person would not think about what he or she can't have or must sacrifice because to such a person the stack of money is endless so there is nothing out of reach. Going back to Buffet: his stack is vast among vastness, but he knows it's finite.
@@UraniumMilk ignoramus
Sometimes the opportunity cost is time. When your collection gets near the triple digits, it’s difficult to even get most of your collection on your wrist for any reasonable amount of time. A large collection sounds like heaven, until you start facing the difficulty of choice each day. And the guilt that accompanies so many unworn pieces! The point is, there’s a downside to having too much, as well as (what is perceived as) too little. Finding the perfect middle is nearly impossible, especially for any extended period of time. For those that want it all (or at least, a lot more than what you already have), be careful what you wish for!
I came to own 15 watches with a mixed collection of nice hevaier hitter pieces and some affordable ones. Lots of good memories but came to a stop and realized some are barely used some not even worn. I have already sold 6 and still currently on the track to sell 4 more. The 5 I've chosen to leave i will for sure enjoy them way more and I've been able to refinance back after some spending in the last couple years.
Good luck & go for it. Hope the sale goes well & you get the Cartier. Didn’t even know they did a dive watch. Looks great.
Paul.
I’ve done this magic. I turned $6,000 worth of watches in to $3,000 cash!
Speedmaster Racing inbound. 😂
Haha!! I was just literally at a Cartier AD here in town today telling the rep that I wanted the Cartier Diver. So crazy to see this video. By the way, read The Cartiers by Francesca Brickell and that’ll get ya wanting it even more. May pull the trigger on a tank first though. Good luck!
I think we should save you by NOT buying your watches so you can be prevented from buying that terrifying freakshow of a watch, nearly as bad as the JLC Navy Seals😂😂😂
I agree LOL, each to their own but when I look at the Cartier diver it reminds me of the classic Simpson's episode where Homer's long lost brother gives him free reign to design a car for his company 🤣🤣🤣
@@simonmcguire4290 What was that called? The Homer?
@@jamesblonde2271 That's the one - this watch will forever be called 'The Homer' from this point onwards 🤣
@@simonmcguire4290 😂😂👍
Gawd, that’s freakin’ hideous, of Invicta-special-models-available-only-on-cruise-ships proportions. l didn’t realise the venerable Cartier were capable of such a thing. He should be able to pick that up at a deep depreciation on the secondary market.
When you said diver, never thought it would be that Cartier, but to each their own. All the best on your sale.
I know your selling goal will go good. I am down to 7 watches from 20 with one of the 7 up for sale. my goal of a 6 watch collection is reasonable and I can get them into a rotation and enjoy what I have, no more impulse buying and the excitement of the hunt. I am retired now and it's just not practical to spend this much on watches, I have what I love and Love what I have.
How do you sell them? Ebay?
I haven’t even watched the whole vid but you got me hooked in the first 39 seconds.
i recently got the calibre de cartier, great watch, fun to wear, looks awesome
I also became enamored with the Calibre de Cartier Diver but ended up going with a Longines Spirit Zulu Time since I wanted the GMT and have always had a soft spot for Long Jeans.
That Longines is a grail of mine
Totally understand... The porch trap door that leads to the pit in my crawlspace was way more effective at "stopping" porch pirates this year. I have so many favorites. How does one even begin to choose. Buuut, I'm lowering the basket so many times a day I keep running out of lotion.
Much more rewarding and meaningful when you can trim down to fund that one piece that fits in with your 2 or 3-watch collection.
Amen brother, good luck with the mission.
Get them flipped bro! You'll have no difficulty in getting good prices for them I'm sure. Good luck with the Cartier purchase.
I saw that Cartier diver a while ago and love it, but I don't have the budget for it. Make an awesome video when you get it. Cheers
I have the cartier blue and its my favorite watch. And i always get compliments on it.
I have a cartier tank francaise (1990's one) and it gets alot of eyes on it. Don't see too many 27 year olds wearing one.
I get it. I'm sort of doing it too. I still buy watches but the new rule is I have to sell at least 2, usually 3 before I buy one. Yes the watch I'm selling is fantastic and gorgeous - I can spend 20 minutes telling you why. But the new rule is if it gets little to no wrist time it must go. I only wear watches on one of my two wrists.
you should explain why the cartier diver is so special that you need to sell your pieces
Just a more minimalist, sustainability focused general way of life is always better. U can love and appreciate watches or art or whatever without owning them. I currently have a 3watch collection and i'm super happy and content with it.
We had two boxes of Seiko’s, seventy-five Timex’s, five Tag Heuer chronographs a bag half full of Bulova’s and a whole galaxy of multi-colored Casios, Fossils, Citizens…and also a Luminox a Rolex a case of Cartier’s a Zeppelin and two dozen Omega’s. Not that we needed all that for the collection but once you get locked into a serious watch collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.
Is funny how cartier was looked down on by watch collector some years ago as just a jewelry brand ,now there totolly in love with them,i do like some of there models though 😊
So where is the best place to sell entry-level watches like a Seiko Speed timer or Tissot Gentleman without paying a ton in fees??
How much for the On Air light?
That’s a nice looking Cartier…let me know if the dw6900 Neo Tokyo ends up on the chopping block!
I really dislike the looks of that Cartier, but to each their own
If someone were to gift you the Cartier right now, would you STILL sell the 8 you plan to get rid of? 🤔
That seiko presage looks nice
That's a cool driver. I hope you can get it.
You had me worried but this list makes sense.
Humm, this is a difficult one, we all have our own idea of what makes a watch desirable . I have to say the Cartier does nothing for me at all. I am sure you will get one and really enjoy it, hopefully with no sellers remorse. BTW that Boldr is awesome
Same never cared for Cartier
Good for you!
Damn. All the watches that built the channel 🥹
Good luck with your selling goal! Excellent watches that should sell fast. Your goal of getting that Cartier really highlights how all our tastes in watches are different. For you it's beautiful, for me it's a monstrosity that only it's mother could love. 😂
or...putting it another way....selling easily saleable watches of lower value for a more expensive unicorn dive watch that ultimately will be harder to sell when the honeymoon wears off.
I don't dislike the Cartier but wouldn't be on my want list.
Rory is right about selling watches that you never think you will sell. Same applies to collectable items like cars and motorcycles. Matters of the heart often change adding a measure of economic pramatism.
A couple of final comments. First is, let's call it the bling factor. The Cartier is a standout piece. His watches for sale are more common and ordinary. This is selling off pedestrian pieces for a more blingy watch. I sure get that. Blingy watches aren't for every occasion but a pedestrian piece can't scratch the itch of a blinged out piece with more cache. And lastly, completely agree with Rory about watches that are unworn. If they sit in your watch box, you don't like them enough to wear them and therefore turn them loose to fund something of greater personal value...excepting sentimental pieces of course that a parent or loved one may have given you.
@@lukewalker1051 Well put. Of course, the heart wants what the heart wants!. It's just too busy and mixed up for me. I do scuba dive, used to do it for a living and of course only use a dive watch as a backup now in case of a computer glitch, but that's not one I feel is functional from a diving viewpoint as it can be unreadable in an emergency situation due to the lack of clarity and unnecessary subdials again from a divers viewpoint. Maybe I'm just old school with a predilection for super readable divers. I suppose this is more of a dress diver and that's ok, but I still find it particularly ugly for my taste. Appreciate the excellent comment! 👍👍
It isn't half the monstrosity that an AP Royal Oak is, so, there's that. It actually looks as good as any other Invicta.
@@varanid9Yup. Those Royal Oak have been a sales disaster over the years. 2 a penny 😂
I really feel that for ME, less is more... You are a TH-cam person, so it makes sense for you to have a vast number of watches, but 5 watches is my limit and I am trying to stick to it (Enicar dress watch from the 60, a DW5600-e G-Shock, Casio Titanium 3 solar quartz, IWC Mark 16 and hoping to get a 36mm OP bright blue over the next few years),,..
Good luck with the selling, it;s a nice feeling to slim down
p.s. LOOOOOVE that Cartier
I really like the blue Alpinist! How much?
I was really hoping for that Hamilton Doctor watch. Maybe next time.
Hey Jory, I normally do not share my valuable input. However, in this instance I feel like I need to speak up…. Don’t do it. That Cartier is hidious. Feel free to sell the eight watches. Just do not purchase that Cartier.
Love this video and the truth in the reasoning of doung this
Jory - You’re not alone; you have to give big! To get big! I traded a Rolex Panda and a Black Ceramic Daytona for a Lange Datagraph back when that Dato was trading for 43k. Let’s just say; I never looked back!
BTW - I have a Seiko fetish; those are easy to buy-back anytime. I traded 20 Seikos plus some cash for a Rolex white gold blue dial; never looked back. Those seikos do add up.
It’s better to have fewer watches you can build memories with. Those Fun beaters just get lost with wrist time. I always say, never do a trade you can’t go backwards on; that will give you some peace in the trade.
Are funds being transferred from the old 1016 fund? 😉
Get whatever takes you forward
Few of those watches are beautiful
That cartier is a stunner. Go get it! Can't wait to see the review on it.
I'll buy your 6139 in a heart beat.
Chunkiness of divewatches has me thinking twice about getting one
Some like the Citizen NY0040 series are less chunky
You should put the proceeds towards a 6 digit Rolex sports model.
The Cartier has rinan numerals if you didn't notice. C'mon man. Reconsider.
But, who ISN'T an fan of the Ancient Rinans?
Woemans and their woeman numerals
Become a 1 watch man!! Do it !!
That Cartier you want.......very pretty watch. I feel your pain.
If you are going to go classy with a cartier then time to update those old tortoise shell pattern glass frames. Clear is on trend at the movement.
I’ve wanted the same Cartier for awhile. I’ve seen the black one out there for a little over $4K but the blue is where it’s at. Josh at Watchbox back in the day loved his and it looked very nice.
And the Khaki Mech?
That Cartier is such a finely balanced design. At first glance it’s not screaming weirdness, but as the eye takes in each detail it’s completely nuts. How they managed to pull that together into a cohesive look is beyond me, but they did. Very clever.
1 awesome watch is better than 10 mediocre ones surely?
I remember how you went apeshit about not getting the seiko blue alpinist 🤪
Any updates on the sale of these watches? I reached out via email.
I just wanna say thank you for being one of the few reviewers to pronounce "Cartier" properly. 👍🏽
This what happens when you start collecting watches and stop wearing watches. You have so many that you don’t know which to wear. You might wear it once or twice and that’s it. Keep it small. Keep it simple. Use them and abuse them. They’re meant to be worn.
How many watches do you own?
About 40.
How much is the cartier where you are? When I looked it up, used it's $11,200+ here. Will selling these 8 watches get you that close?
Good luck and I'm sure you'll get there eventually.
In today’s market? Half that.
@thetimeteller hunh. So basically whatever Google is telling me, half it. Got it. Good luck!
@@thetimetellerNot a fan of that Cartier but if you like it go get it.
I have a blue dialled NY0040 so what do I know.
Number 7. The bubbleback.
Never.
Just my opinion, but i agree with the poster who said it resembles an invicta. A very expensive invicta. Think twice, buyers remorse is no fun
Sounds like TGV
This is a good move.
I hate date windows that show more than just the current date. For that reason alone I’d never buy that Cartier. I also think you could spend $6k in a lot more interesting ways horologically. Omega Planet Ocean Chrono for example. They even make it in two tone gold and blue like the Cartier. That watch is heads and shoulders above the Cartier.
A Cartier Diver sounds like an oxymoron to me haha, it's what you want though so more power to you :)
Why are you getting rid. Can I have some of the watches?
*Let this be a lesson to all collectors*
Whenever you buy cheap crap it always adds up and then you regret it because you could have spent the money on one good piece, or the one you really want!!
I’m as guilty of this as all collectors!!
Why not keep those 6 and buy an invicta? Or have a dog crap on your wrist
Sell the pam :)
Don't like that Cartier at all.
ill buy it for u for nudz
The Cartier's date window is unacceptable. I wish to purchase several of the pieces that you happen to be selling, but I cannot and will support your quest for that Cartier model. It was on thin ice to begin with the roman numerals on a diver, but the date window is just too much. There's no excuse for the hideous date window; it's indefensible.
Really ? for that cartier? to each their own i guess.Good luck.
That Boldr watch has terrible legibility.
Click bait you said everything must go
Those Neo Tokyos were given to you by a viewer. At least give one away in a raffle or something....

“Everything Must Go!= CLICKBAIT
“Selling My Watch Collection” = CLICKBAIT
“Selling Eight of My Watches” = TRUTH
The 8 watches I’m referring to are a collection of pieces I own- I am also attempting to sell all of them (hence ‘everything must go’)
Nice try. 🤫
@@thetimeteller I enjoy your videos and have for the last few years. I have enjoyed your opinion on many watches and the style in which you present that opinion and information. However, when you bait your audience into watching a video by portraying the subject of the video as falsely dramatic and in reality the subject isn’t very dramatic at all then you loose a little bit of our trust. We trust you with our time. We trust you to bring us useful information. When we are misled that trust diminishes.
The thumbnail says “EVERYTHING MUST GO!” (yes in all caps) and the title of the video is “Selling My Watch Collection”. This was obviously done to bait people into thinking you are selling your watch collection. You are not selling your watch collection, you are selling eight watches. This is clickbait. You know it and we know it. To say otherwise is ridiculous.
The “Nice try. 🤫” at the end of your reply was childish. You’re better than that.
Never meant to offend. The “nice try” was a playful gesture. Just trying to show that I wasn’t taking things too seriously. Thanks for your input! 🤙
Those watches won’t make a dent on Cartier buying price
You’d be very surprised.
Was thinking the same, at least a couple of those pieces (Boldr and Timex) go for peanuts on the pre-owned market.
Sell me your Vacheron!
$9,200 and it’s yours lol

Yes.

That Cartier is one ugly watch. If you like that, there are some Bulova watches you'll really like for cheaper. Keep the sarb.
OOOHHH THIS VIDEO IS REALLY A CLICK BAIT VIDEO OOOHHHH I KNOW YOU DID NOT THINK OF THAT WHEN YOU MADE IT 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
You can do this but still. You will never be satisfied with any watch in your life, that’s your curse. You’ll sell this Cartier as well someday looking for this next and only one watch.
You’re not supposed to say the quiet part out loud lol.
Selling garbage to buy gold. Glws!

Don't do it big fellow. With Cartier come poor quality.
That Cartier is ugly af. Not a cool watch at all. Was hoping you are buying Hanhart... but this?
Good luck I guess.
This is half the fun of the hobby. Buy something you like, you wear a lot, you take care of it. Time passes, you don't wear it all that much. You unload it, and if you miss it or have regret about selling it, well you track it down and start the process again.
