I won't lie Jody, the last one was ugly converted into even uglier, but this was a very worthwhile exercise. You did indeed turn trash into treasure here. Well done mate!! 👏👏👏
Watchmaker here. If you're ever working on a real 2824, make sure to put the stem in the date setting position when removing it. Otherwise you'll probably get to take off the whole front of the watch to reset the yoke and setting lever. It's kind of annoying. Also, when pulling off hands, it's always good to use a dial protector of some type under your levers/presta tool.
It is sufficient to use a screw driver fitting the release hole instead of a punch. This will prevent you from pushing too deep, which is the cause of the problem you describe. And "dial protector" is a fancy name for some polyethylene piece.
Really enjoyed the video Jody. I haven't started moding any of my watches yet but I might start by looking at which ones I don't particularly like anymore and what I would like to change on them. It's always the strap, dial, hands or crystal but never thought of changing the movement. Thanks Jody I'll have to look at your back catalogue of Moding videos .
The second hand is by far the easiest to put on, but you have to do it differently to how you're probably doing it. I put a small piece of rodico on the end of a hand pusher, pick the hand up by it in the middle, and just push straight on one handed looking through a loup, it takes seconds (no pun intended!). After spending a good half an hour (with lots of swearing!) putting my first second hand on, this was the best piece of modding advice I received!
@@ninosalvati379 No, he said he couldn’t find his Rodico so he improvised. I’m just saying that the method @sportwilliam suggested makes attaching the seconds hand a lot easier. Many modders struggle setting the seconds hand at first, so they might find his comment useful.

Congrats on reviving a Titoni! The Titoni brand itself is a well respected company here in Asia. And the fact that it is still family owned (3rd and 4th generation) instead of a conglomerate, makes it feel a bit personal when it comes with their styling.
For sure an improvement & big props for your modding skills. I've got a few decades on you and have long since decided that I'll keep the only local watchmaker in business rather than ruin more watches attempting what sound like simple mods, but actually require very steady hands, like yours. Nice.
I'm glad you said it; once in a while I sneeze, drop the second hand and it lands perfectly in place. The rest of the time, I'm wishing I was working on a digital watch. The Titoni looks wonderful, btw
Reminds me of the Pagani I bought, thought of flipping but kept when it occurred the Seiko NH "wheel of accuracy" had bestowed it with my most accurate NH, and therefore a backup donor.😊
Putting on the hands has been my downfall on too many mods I've attempted. They inevitably end up bent beyond repair or embedded in the carpet across the room. I've given up trying sadly
Oh good, I'm not the only one who has issues with the seconds hand! Although, last one I did, I got it first try. Even got it on camera. I was so surprised, I picked up the movement cushion and turned it sideways to make sure I wasn't seeing things, and dumped the movement onto the workbench. Oops! It live though, still running great!
If you ever need to remove the crown on a vintage Swiss movement, it will likely have a small screw rather than a button (Japanese will probably have the button). You must undo the screw just about 1 and a half turns to remove stem, keep making tiny adjustments until the stem pulls free. If you unscrew it too far, or unscrew it all the way, the setting lever will fall out on the dial side and you are in for a world of hurt if you don't have a lot of tools and experience assembling movements.
Love this Jody! You're dead right about the second hand. When I replaced the handset on my SRP369 it took me over half an hour using a magnifier. Then, I had to reopen the case after a day because the seconds hand was slightly slanted and stopped when brushing against the hands below. It's a wonderful hobby, teaches patience if nothing else 😁
The stem seems that need to be a little bit shorter, but in the end, it is a pretty face of a watch. And is your mongrel watch. That's why people used foxtails in the handlebars of the bicycles and colorful valve stems... to have a customized bastardized bike.
I like it! I like it a lot!! All watches have stories and making one yourself is the best part. My ST1601 will be going into an AliExpress case as soon as I finish the service vids from The Watch Repair Channel.
Great mod jodi. The earnshaw case, if solid SS can be brushed and used for another mod. I try and save all parts just in case. It's all a bit of fun. All the best.
Looks good, Jody! I'd gladly watch this video if it was longer also, showing the process in some more detail. Maybe I some time could venture into something similar...
I think your titoni turned out lovely! I’ve built 4 Watch mods so far and I think it’s great for the reasons you mentioned. I’m always scouring the Ali express for new dials and cases. I’ve only dont Seiko NH mods so far but I would love to do a 2824 clone sometime.
Love the watch, Jody! A great improvement indeed! I have an old Titoni Airmaster with a black dial myself, and yours should be even nicer with the inclusion of hand winding and quick date adjust functionality that my original lacks. Enjoy!
Exactly what I was thinking - turned out beautiful and looks just like something my DDD would have had on-wrist back in the 60s. If I had a startup watch brand I'd consider making something like this, could see it being v. popular at the right price. Just sayin'.
Looks great Jody. I would recommend getting a pin vise instead of using the leatherman for the stem as you are less likely to do any damage to the stem. 👍🏼
Nice mod! You make it look really easy. Maybe I'll try something simple like changing the crystal in my Casio Duro. LoL. Your watch looks great! Enjoy!
Hello Jody, I remember when you bought the Titoni case, you also bought a Chinese movement that is supposedly a cheap high beat movement to be installed in the case. Was that Chinese movement a dud?
Titoni is not trash, they are lesser known in the West. But it is actually quite popular in Asia. Check out the Titoni Seascoper 300 and 600. Both are impressive for their price
I love those vintage Titoni Airmasters, they have some really nice models. Their newer watches are not to my liking, sadly. And I fully agree with you, is it original or not, who cares, this is fun and it yields a very nice looking mechanical watch. Thanks for sharing!
I've always wanted one of those Titoni Airmasters but they are hard to come by in good condition and aren't a Mumbai special. If you ever consider selling it I'd be highly interested. Located in Melbourne.
I do not know Titoni. I *do* know Earnshaw. They rank someplace between blatant rubbish and rotting pond scum. So already a good mod. The finished watch is a nice little addition to the rotation. Well done!
I hope one day we get the directors cut with Jody cursing and swearing for 5 minutes while trying to put the seconds hand on. I'd say the mod was worth it. You took a trash watch and made it a keeper that you can throw on when you're stepping out to the grocery store.
Well done, Jody! The result is a beautiful vintage looking watch. Too bad you didn't give us the entertainment of mounting the seconds hand. I absolutely hate that, myself. 😂
Thomas Earnshaw watches are beautifully made by artisans in their extensive workshop at least that’s what the nice man on the shopping channel said and I believe every word.
What you've done is at least an achievement and the result depends on taste. I bought the same "Titoni" as you along with a "PT5000" to go in it. It looks better on the TV than in real life, the hands are pretty much the same colour as the dial making it largely useless. In my case the PT5000 wasn't a PT5000 and didn't fit or actually work and Aliexpress we no use at getting a refund. I tinkered with different hands to see if it looked better then chucked the whole lot.
Trash to trash? Nice, snappy hook, but this was definitely trash to treasure - what a smart looking result! A very retro look, emphasised by the handsome leather strap. All in all, a very worthwhile exercise, with a watch you would be proud to keep - are you going to keep?
I won't lie Jody, the last one was ugly converted into even uglier, but this was a very worthwhile exercise. You did indeed turn trash into treasure here. Well done mate!! 👏👏👏
It is much nicer and more refined than the Earnshaw. Nice job!!

Hey that’s what happens with the DG2813. The fix is coaxing the yoke back into its slot on the sliding pinion.

That specific rotor tells me it very well could be an ETA 2892 equivalent.
Not exactly Philippe Dufour level of horology, but a decent job. Well done Jody.

That's a nice little watch although it would not be my choice because of the color of indices and hands. But it is way better than the Earnshaw.
Fun project and it looked good when it was all done! 👍🏻
Thats a damn nice Titoni❤❤❤. More of classic style of watches pls
The modified version looks like a watch from the 1960s. Definitely an improvement. All you need is the right kind of attire to go with it.
