    The point that the watch doesn’t use sapphire, is probably not due to cost or maybe it’s just partially the issue? I’m a former police search and rescue diver,and while for a real dive watch mineral crystals are better for scuba diving because it had a higher tolerance for shattering because although sapphire is cool and great as a fashion point, it’s shatters much easier than mineral, while the mineral is just more suspect to scratches.

    • @OscarOSullivan

      Thanks for informing me of something I have suspected for long that mineral crystal has far superior shatter resistance compared to sapphire crystal. Honestly as an NY0040-17L owner I would take a scratched crystal over a shattered one.

    So they now have the 44mm and the 36.5mm. If so many people want a 40mm, why can't Citizen just make a 40mm of this style Promater?! I have this in the larger version (BN0151-09L) because I really like the features and value. But it's too big for me to wear a lot (44.2mm x 12.3mm). The "sweet spot" for me is 40mm x under 12mm.

    I personally find it wears too small with my flat 6.5 inch wrist and just looks miniscule in-hand. I comfortably wear a Seiko Arnie with no lug overhang and 39mm is my personal sweet spot for reference. The watch itself is seriously well built. The black one plays with the light brilliantly on the bezel, crown and bordered indexes while still being brutalist-ly tool-ish. Bezel action is great with no play and great alignment on mine. For once, a Citizen strap that is wearable and not too long. There are some ridges on the underside of the strap that help hold the keepers in place, intentional or not, is nice. Smole ass sunken dial but still ultra legible. I do find comfort knowing a lot of 7+ inch wrist content creators have no issue wearing this size.

    • @ppanda2974
      @ppanda2974 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      i have 7 inch wrists and when i first got this watch i definitely felt that it was too small (almost feminine) but that’s mainly due to the fact that i’ve exclusively worn 40mm+ watches my whole life. watches smaller than 40mm have always been the gold standard even for men and only in recent years have watches gotten bigger. don’t shy away from smaller watches my friend, no more bashing your case on doors and the comfort is unparalleled. it just takes some getting used to and in a couple of months you’ll wonder why you ever wore big watches in the first place

    I could do a 37mm diver. I wore a 1969 Omega Seamaster 120 for 40+ years, SCUBA diving with it many times. It won't seal anymore so I have been diving with a G Shock and routinely wearing whatever in my small collection. I like a diminutive diver that is a real dive watch but fits under a cuff. I would change the crystal to sapphire. I have changed the mineral crystal of my Nighthawk to double domed sapphire.

  • @ejones5782
    @ejones5782 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I see a lot of dislike for mineral crystal and I admit I don't like crystal scratches on my best watches either. However, I had always read that mineral crystal is less likely to shatter vs sapphire which on a tool watch makes better sense. The solution I have come up with on most of my lower seikos/casios is to use a glass screen protector similar to what people use on phones. If I ding it heavily, it gets a crack and I replace. Good as new then. Doesn't work with cyclops' though.

    There are MANY models Citizen has quietly put out that mop the floor with lower and mid tier Seiko. Their Chronomasters are awesome too, but not exactly GS level. However, the Chronomaster isn't close to having a GS price, yet they're hand made like a GS.

      @vedranbozicevic1111 The GS is a step above the Chronomaster. But the Chronomaster is 1/3 the price yet hand made with a high level of detail. The GS is overall better, but you get far more for your money with the Chronomaster.

    I was wishing to buy the black dial version with black silicon strap. Then my wife told me that I always could be able to buy that strap and she adviced me to buy the steel strap. She was right. The geometric shape, the links lay-out and surface finish is exceptionally well integrated with the watch case.
    If I had to buy later an aftermarket steel strap, couldn't find that a perfect match.
    My suggest is to buy it with steel strap, and later enjoy the watch with NATO an other variatons, like brown leather.

    Seiko has the Prospex SNE series that competes with these. They have similar specs such as the

As an example, I found a hardlex replacement for an SKX for 19.99 and sapphire in several variants for 29.99 - 31.99 🤷‍♂IMHO for such a universally desired upgrade, the cost is negligible.

    I actually think the cheap promasters are better than many of the expensive seikos.

    A real small diver that is a actually a real diver watch. I don't like my divers that size though that's dress watch sized.

    Sadly Seiko SKX is Dead but Citizen continues to deliver watch lovers a robust watch that can be used in any condition. It's a shame that Seiko stopped listening to enthusiasts and chose to go down another path, one that will not be successful in my opinion.

    The promaster is easily the only legit ISO spec diver left after Seiko killed the SKX. Everything else is fashion divers.

    Cmon… it’s a nice design amd i agree with the size which i like, but nothing more. And the price is not so affordable considering you can get a mechanical for the same price.

    Same movement as the TAG Heuer SolarGraph.
    So this is a steal….
    Or the SolarGraph is a ripoff..

    Now that they've got the size down to where it's wearable, do something about those ridiculous 'arrow' hands.
