These two things I disliked about reach was the grey maps from the community/ reused online maps from the campaign and the boring voice acting. Guardians and ODST need to sit in the corner and think about what they've done.

I remember I finished Halo 4 with a friend. Thought "that wasn't great but did ok job." We immediately put in Reach to do coop, because why not. Two levels in, "wow, halo 4 is terrible in comparison." And Reach wasn't even close to how good 3 was.

There are a ton of things that make me feel nostalgic. Pokemon games, the show and the cards? Sure. Original Xbox and H2 on Live? Absolutely. The message sound of Windows Messenger? Shit yes.
But Halo 3 just takes the cake. Takes the whole bakery. Takes over the whole franchise and now has a baking monopoly. I seriously don't know if I've had that much fun playing a game ever since I moved on from it. Halo 3 is game of the year, every year..

Had an incredible atmosphere, probably the best soundtrack ever created, engaging story, likable characters,the introduction of firefighter, and the only collectibles in a game that I was ever actually going for because of how great the side story they told was. Only problem was the game was too damn short for full price totally worth $5 for the remaster on master chief collection though.

I actually bought it a little while before Reach came out. A lot of the feedback I saw on release wasn't that great, and even the people who liked it said it definitely wasn't worth the 60 dollar price tag. I barely played it, and then Reach came out, which I freaking loved and me and my friends played the shit out of. Just went back to ODST a few months ago because I felt bad about never completing it. Played through on Legendary, of course, and, though the game was short, I thought it was a fun challenge. Cool level design, great soundtrack, and a bit of unique new lore. Do I think the game should've been full-price? No, especially when there's no matchmaking for Firefight. Did I enjoy it? Absolutely. I think when it came out, a lot of people didn't really know what to make of it, but it's well worth the dirt cheap amount you can pick it up for today.

I personally feel that Halo 4's story is underrated. But yes, it's Multiplayer was shit.
Halo 5 was fucking horrid, the story telling didn't take a single step down, it actually jumped from the balcony and faceplanted into the ground. I will admit though, the MP was a step up from 4, but still not great, just... Meh.

Wild Gaming I hold 3 and Reach on equal grounds as my favorite, I've been playing since CE.
I play Reach more nowadays because I feel it's aged a bit better than 3. More content, more options, more polish (better netcode for sure).
But I love both games to death.
I thought it was great as well, but it is understandable that not everyone would like it.

Maybe if you played online it would be in second but I highly doubt you played the original's online, not the remastered online which took away all the unique glitches that made for a higher skill cap and has a worse net code. Like seriously why is it in second it was all linear uninspired levels except the last two missions

Halo Reach's story line was amazing (I think.) It had a dark mood which was super cool. And you played as a new spartan team, you slowly find out that the covenant are on reach. The characters are actually really good and the ending is pretty sad.
No, it wasn't. There is literally no plot to it other than "Reach Falls, Noble Team Dies, Pillar of Autumn leaves." The characters are all generic stereotypes such as "The gentle giant", "the sarcastic hacker girl", "the charismatic leader", "The silent badass" and "the angry tough guy." The thing is that Bungie just did an incredible job presenting and pacing it, it made you feel like it had substance anyways which I gotta give credit for, but Reach's actual story pales in comparison to the depth of the original trilogy.

@@Faunarr Except no, a game that actually has half decent writing will avoid these issues or put a decent spin on the tropes they use.
Take the original Halo for instance. It's by no means a particularly well written game, but it has a definite plot structure where
1. Introduction: Human and Covenant forces, including our protagonists Chief and Cortana, in a war both discover a mysterious ring world, where the Covenant engages and strands Human forces on it.
2. Rising action: Both forces begin to find out more and more about the ring, finding out that it's some kind of weapon and a map that shows where it's control room is. Desperate actions are fought to gain control of it.
2. Climax: Cortana sends Chief without explanation to go save some human forces. Flood is revealed, being the original purpose of the Ring. Guilty Spark arrives promising to be able to fix the issue but in actuality the solution is tantamount to suicide which Cortana reveals
3. Falling action Chief and Cortana battle the Flood, the Covenant and Spark's Sentinels across the ring in a desperate effort to prevent Spark from activating the ring.
4. Resolution: Halo is destroyed preventing anyone from activating it and stranding the flood on its remnants.
It also has some archetypes/tropes with it, such as Chief fulfilling the "strong silent badass" type, but this actually has a massive impact on the story as Chief doesn't question Spark's methods until they meet back up with Cortana, showing he's not perfect and more of a weapon purpose made to be given orders to - something that would be explored later in the series. The same is true of Captain Keyes and to a lesser extent Cortana and Guilty Spark who are actually pretty unique characters. This isn't to say Combat Evolved story is perfect, there are absolutely contrivances to it like how Cortana just doesn't tell Chief what he's up against when she sends him after Keyes - but it's a hell of a lot better than Reach's plot and characterization which is just fucking nothing.
Like this isn't just some criticism of any game you can have my dude, Reach just doesn't have any actually interesting characterization or plot to it. That's not to say it can't be enjoyable for people - for what it lacks in actual plot and characterization it makes up in style - but that's also the problem is that it's all style and no substance. Which hey if you're willing to accept that and enjoy it, then good for you - but don't go around acting like the story was good and sure as shit don't go around saying it's the best game in the series when it doesn't even come close.

I thought Halo Reach was a fantastic game, maybe my favorite in the series. Where I think it might fall short of Halo 3 is in some aspects of the multiplayer. Though Reach might have played extraordinarily well on its own, Halo 3's community produced so many insanely fun and creative custom maps and gametypes that I don't think will ever be matched.

Henry Gutierrez 4 and 5 have much more story development of chief and the lore then 1-3. He is literally a mute solder in 1-3 following orders like a robot that does not sound like a good movie imo
MasterJazz09 Very true, but by then the characters we grew to know and love have died off; they were replaced by some (not all) generic and unlikeable characters. Cortana is going apeshit in 4, and after that, the only person we're left liking is Master Chief. There may be a few redeeming characters here and there, but they're few and far between.
Henry Gutierrez your opnion on that matter, I think they very much have plenty of interesting characters more so then chief, the game is not called master chief it's called halo as in the universe of the game there are many story's and characters to tell other then him but ppl just can't seem to let him go or have a break

Ser Laz Aye, same, console gaming has gone to shite. No old school fun anymore, all this FASTER PACED HIGH RESOLUTION NON EXISTENT STORYTELLING garbage that console gamers just eat up, a lot of PC gamers too for that matter. All I play on the PC is CS:GO, TF2, and a lot of classic PC and non PC games such as Deus EX, System Shock 2, Star Wars Knights of The Old Republic 1 and 2, etc.
I grew up with halo 1 and 2, I felt that reach was a good throw back to halo 2, it wasn't my favorite as 2 will always have that place in my heart but it was my favorite one on the 360, halo 4 and 5.. I guess I'm just too old because those aren't the halo games I expected
