A young man asked Dr. John MacArthur, “What is the real key to great preaching?” Dr. MacArthur said, “well…it’s the ability to keep your rear in a chair until you understand the text.”

Context context context - 2 Peter 3:9 the most misquoted verse in the church today - most people haven’t read the verse let alone the chapter and book - all of 2 Peter is written to born again people - so important

You are absolutely correct. I had to correct my Bible study group a few weeks ago because they were cherry picking this verse and using it out of context. Context is king when reading Scripture

Amen brothers, renewing our minds involves feeding it with God’s word whether you are a man or woman.

The Bible isn't magic; it's truth. The power comes when the Holy Spirit takes that truth and opens it to our hearts, transforming them by that truth. The more you put the Word into your mind, the more the Spirit has to work with in shaping your mind into the mind of Christ. So important to understand this, or you'll end up thinking the Bible is subject to your will rather than to God's will. You'll treat it more like a good luck charm than like the means by which God accomplishes what He wants in your life. (Is 55:9-11; John 5:39-40)

How do you study the Bible? If you need to go to a G3 conference to learn how to study the Bible, then your pastor(s) are failing in their responsibilities to the church.

So wondering, as a mother who homeschools and a wife, wanting to make sure she is Biblically literate correctly, how would you recommend learning all that is true and noble and not be led astray in todays age? The proper way for her to read and study the Bible? Personally I feel that men teaching is far superior to women. Thank you.

Why is the Bible not (a sort of) chronologic?
Like first written letters in the NT first...
The book of Esther in the back of the OT?
Is it still better to start reading in Genesis asf till Revelation?
I twice read the Bible (in 9 or 10 months) chronologic just for history understanding. Loved it. Learned a lot.

That’s a great question; one that is asked more commonly than you may think (just looking at the Gospels, for instance, Mark is generally believed to have been this first written, even though it comes after Matthew. As far as the very first book in Scripture written? Believe it or not, Job).
You really can’t go wrong with what order you read scripture in. Some people have annual reading plans where they literally do start at Genesis, and go all the way through (if you do indeed choose to do this, 4 chapters a day, give or take, will get you through the Bible in one year).
Some people choose to do a chapter each of the OT, NT, a Psalm, & a proverb per day.
Some people focus on reading through one specific section of scripture (the Pentateuch, or the Major Prophets, or the Minor Prophets, or the books of Poetry, or the Gospels, or Paul’s letters, etc). Last year, and it did indeed take me about a year, as we moved slow, I led my family through the minor Prophets, as that’s a section of scripture that seems to be the most neglected. It was very worthwhile and edifying.
So, with all of those options, you really can’t go wrong. Just read everything in context, context, and context. If a passage is challenging, a good idea is to reread the previous 3 verses, and the following 3 verses, to have a better clarity of what God is saying in the “problem passage”.
Always remember that scripture exegetes scripture, and every book of it contains the gospel of grace alone, by faith alone, in Christ alone.
Get good commentaries, if you can, as well (periodicals such as Table Talk, Expositor, or Banner of Truth). Listen to sermons from doctrinally sound pastors/theologians (i.e. John MacArthur, Paul Washer, Voddie Baucham, Alistair Begg, Joel Beeke, Conrad Mbewe, Sinclair Ferguson, Tom Ascol, Virgil Walker, Justin Peters, Steve Lawson, Darrell Harrison, Emilio Ramos, Jeff Durbin, Al Mohler, John Flavel, John Owen, RC Sproul, AW Tozer, Martyn Lloyd Jones, Martin Luther, John Calvin, JC Ryle) but always compare what they say to scripture. They were/are just men saved by grace, too.

The only one who I know definitively teaches that is MacArthur (some of the others may as well, and I may not know about it).
Lordship salvation simply is another term for, submission to Gods will. In a day and age where countless false conversions have occurred because of the preaching of “cheap grace”, (sometimes called antinomianism), as well as “leading people in a sinner’s prayer” (which is never found in the Bible), a fruit of genuine salvation, in time, will be submitting to God’s will. Wanting to do good works not to get saved, but because we are saved (see Ephesians 2:10). When a person is truly born again, their old way of life and of living in sin will seem repulsive to them, and they will eventually become better Bereans (Acts 17.) What I mean by that is they will compare what they hear, see, and read, up to scripture, and be able to distinguish if it is Godly or not.

Virgil went from one extreme to another. He is still not rightly dividing the word. Calvinism puts men's ideas into scripture as does the prosperity gospel

From fear and respect of the LORD.
    TO
Fear and respect of the LAW, (man).
    TO
Fear and respect of Nothing, (self).
    Notice the trend?
Start here and realize that there's no explanation for what I'm about to show you, it's all true and this is from just one chapter of the Bible's 66 Books:
Isiah 53 describes in graphic detail how our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, would be executed 610 years before that method of execution had even been invented. In the Qumran Cave Dead Sea Scroll discovery of 1946 - 1947. There was an entire Isiah Scroll recovered and our Bibles are pretty much a match to it as long as they maintain a word for word based translation. That scroll is from 200 BC, (give or take a decade or so), so even if people say there's no way Isiah predicted all he did about the Lord's coming and execution 700 years before it happened. The date of that Scroll sets it firmly 200 years or so before the Lord was even born and that method of execution still hadn't been invented yet. I've seen reports that crucifixion was found to be used by the Romans in 90 BC but that still doesn't explain how Isiah knew about it 700 years before that time or even if you date it by the Isiah Scroll that was found in the Dead Sea Cash dated to 200 BC. It also demonstrates God's love for us by His preservation and the accuracy of the preservation of His Word.
This is just one of hundreds of Prophecies that have been fulfilled in Scripture and it lays out many more to come.
If I had just Isiah 53 I could preach the Gospel as we find out from the story of Phillip and the Ethiopian Eunuch. Isiah 53 is among the strongest proofs that our Bibles do in fact contain God's Word showing His divine nature in His Prophetic Words given to Isiah via the Holy Spirit. Most have never seen this information which is truly sad in that our Lord is the one and only way to salvation for any of us. (John 14:6)
You must know that God our Father and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the Lord of Lords and King of Kings, that although He hates the sin, He loves the repentant sinner. If people will just come to Him and repent in their heart of hearts of all their sins to Him, and proclaim Him as their Savior, their Lord, the very Son of GOD.
    Take care and God Bless...
