I am very grateful to God for this Thank you for extrapolating and underlining the pertinent issues at hand, biblically and culturally. I will share this
I recently watched this podcast and I want to say that I really appreciate this podcast. In a Sunday School class I was visiting a couple of weeks ago there was a time when the teacher was discussing about Mary Magdalene and people were discussing whether or not she was one of the people that followed Jesus around all of the time. The problem I had from the start of this discussion was that first off that is very trivial and not important but also that we can not be certain of this because the Bible never tells us if she was. We know that many people were following Jesus. Not just the twelve but many people, those that were true disciples, those that were superficial followers and even the religious leaders were often following Jesus(even if it was for the wrong reason). The thing that surprised me in this conversation in this SS class was that the teacher spoke up and said and I quote: I think she did follow Jesus around and I think we see that by the fact that the Chosen shows us that, end quote...... I tell you I nearly hit the floor. I'm serious I was in disbelief that this teacher in a Sunday School class just referenced the Chosen as a sure way of knowing of something that is not clear from the Bible and sure is not important. We have got to get people to understand that we do not need anything other than the Bible for spiritual growth and to know who God is. Instead of spending our time watching junk like the Chosen or any of these other movies that are coming out, why don't we open our Bibles and actually learn what God has and is saying.
Yes for sure. I am doing what I can in my local church to teach people how to study the Bible. I also do this on my website and podcast as well. It saddens me to see so many people in church not know the Bible much more than a fifth grade student would.@@laurenlimebrook9828
The thing that is heart-sickening is that we live in a time in which we have to try to explain why these things are heretical. We live in a totally Bible-illiterate society.
We are living in a time where the nerd community are more devoted to the established lore of the fictional works of Tolkien, see their abandonment of Amazon's Rings of Power for reference, then Christians are to recorded testimonies of the Gospels, which is a real historic event and Christians claim they believe it.
Not surprising. We’ve been spoiled with a relatively safe society for our faith. We’re slowly returning to normal (ie being surrounded by pagans) as Jesus told us we should expect. We lived in special times. Time to wake up and get to work.
Not illiterate biblically, we just know it's not true. Which god are you talking again - the one that saves babies when the TV cameras are around but doesn't do a GODDAMNED thing about thousands of children starving to death every fucking day. That's some gawd you got there

This was like getting two programs in one! The first portion about the Chosen, and then the second portion, for me was even more beneficial when it comes to images and such. God has been bringing more and more of this to light in my heart. Thank you!
I really appreciate you making clear the true Jesus and how the chosen does not represent Him. I only wish I was able to find a church I could be a part of that would be true to the Scriptures.
...I am a Reformed Baptist...and was led to try and OPC church... because some of these churches have flashing lights...and bands and it's more like a bar with the music, mood, coffee shops etc. The OPC uses a hymnal...singing mostly Psalms and in the back of the Hymn book are all the Creeds and Confessions. It's incredible... everything is Biblical. Check it out ...God Bless. 📖✝️🌷
We found a Reformed Church 46 miles away and have been there 5 years now. They teach the Word without any isegesis and give bible study every Lord's Day for adults and all children/age groups too. It is so wonderful. But there are some problems too, but we work things out through the church gov't.
Watching season 1 & 2 got me to start reading my Bible more, then realize something wrong with this show with all the gimmicks. Quit watching & love reading my Bible. Thank you for educating us on the word of God. Still learning so much!
Thank you so much for addressing the matter of the 2nd Commandment violation! So many people have no idea that having an image of Christ in their home or church is a violation of God's Commandments. You nailed this beautifully guys! 👍
@@PHILHAMILT0N Bowing down does not just mean an action of bowing down in worship but giving your loyalty and attention and belief in something that is "used" rather than being transformed by God's word alone. People love anything visual to replace the reading of God's word and it also stirs the imagination which is frowned upon in the bible.
@@laurenlimebrook9828 Yes, although does watching a tv show = giving loyalty and attention and belief? Anyone's summary (even when preaching) of anything described in the Bible (without specifically using the Words of the Bible), is that breaking 2nd Commandment?

Do you really expect him to read the Bible out loud, and then go sit down and see if it sinks in? Don't mistake the means with the end, brother. God also uses drug overdoses as a "tool" or "instrument" to draw people to Himself and His Word. It's role in your conversion in no way reflects on the value or validity of the show itself.
@@beaberean3286 Well, that was the objective of Chosen according to its director, Dallas. It is NOT A REPLACEMENT of Scripture but it was made SO THAT PEOPLE WILL READ the Gospel for themselves.
@@HearGodsWord are you blind to their hypocrisy? NO IMAGES OF JESUS anywhere for any reason, including actors. There is archeological evidence of images of Jesus well before the advent of the supremacy of the Church of Rome. In our modern history, there have been 52 actors playing the role of Jesus. Were they ALL wrong?
It’s almost as if Jenkins is heading towards a one world religion-one big tent. SO many 🚩🚩in this series. I’m so thankful this is being addressed. It has been surprising to me that churches haven’t addressed it, at least none in my area. In my opinion, this is rapidly becoming an idol within the Christian community. Did you know the man who played Jesus on The Jesus Movie put out by Campus Crusade was NOT a Christian. So I guess that no one should have watched this movie.🙄
Thank you for this discussion! I couldn't watch the Chosen. Who are we to make an image of Jesus, and then put words in his mouth that aren't in scripture. As if His word is not enough. I am very alone in my conviction of this within my church, so really appreciate you! Christian, if you think God's word on it's own is boring, you just may be on the broad road.
Did you also see his clarification about what he said? As we guard about sins of idolatry, we must also guard against sin of gossiping and bearing false witness. We must also pay the cost of making right judgment - spending time to really hear and look at the primary sources, and look at the context, as what we have known to how we should properly understand Scriptures, and even each other.
One other thing is the connection to Roman Catholicism. Jonathan Roumie is Catholic and he has been integral in linking the The Chosen with a Catholic app so Chosen fans can pray the rosary on a daily basis. Of course, Dallas Jenkins went to visit the Pope a couple years ago. It seems to me that Mormonism is only one issue, but the overall trajectory for Jenkins in knocking down walls between Christianity, Mormonism, and Catholicism.
Dallas Jenkins outright admitted 2 years ago on Melissa Dougherty's episode that he wanted to make a jesus that everyone can agree on. This in spite of his claim in that same interview that his goal is to depict an authentic Jesus Christ. Folks tend to shy away from saying this, but I have no problems doing it for them. Dallas Jenkins talks out both sides of his mouth because he is a liar and only in mainstream Christianity has he been allowed to do so. And other Christians who help him, including a certain "Relatable" Christian commentor recently, are just as bad as he is.
After watching several of these well touted shows of the "Chosen", I believed they were written to give license, susceptibility and entertainment to churchianity.
Thanks, guys, I love that you tackled this subject. This has similar issues that we delt with when The Shack was released, just complete ignorance from some church pastors and leaders.
SO EXCELLENT!! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for the HONEST discussion!!!! Deception is sooooo sly like a fox, smooth as a serpent, and deadly as a wolf!! Satan always mixes just enough truth to make the lie palatable!!🖤
There is nothing 'honest' in their discussion. I am currently writing a rebuttal to their criticism of the show, and it's mostly based on their personal opinions of the show and not hard facts. Read my rebuttal here in this message thread.
Thank you for these insights and comments which affirms my concerns about The Chosen This panel also touched on use of Bible story books or "children's Bibles" here a bit. As a Christian mother, grandmother, educator & media specialist (public then homeschool as well as in missionary and church contexts), I feel compelled to comment further on that topic. There is a dearth of well illustrated children's Bible based materials to use with young children. Most have cartoonish illustrations and avoid or "dumb down" the Scriptures, especially the more difficult but significant passages such as Abraham's call to sacrifice Issac. We have found book with select Bible stories that has realistic human and animal images which also stays fairly on-point to the Scriptures. It also has historical information and notes - but set-apart from the stories - about foods, tools, etc of the given period. It is the The Children's Illustrated Bible with illustrations by Eric Thomas/retold by S. Hastings, and used to be my go-to first baby/family gift for young families. HOWEVER, it is now OOP and skyrocketed in prices. Found myself purchasing it in "like new" condition as used to give (with explanatory note!) as gifts. Our grandchild has taken this book, after it being read every day, and sat for quite some time pouring over the images and retelling the stories since 2yo! Is it 'perfect?' No! Is it the complete Bible? Of course not, but a good tool! G3 Min...great opportunity here for developing an affordable teaching took like this for families !!!!! Thankful my adult child has carefully read gifted "Bible" story books and just trashed them as they were so terrible!
Gentlemen, I whole heartedly agree with all of your points regarding this subject. Thank you for taking the time to discuss and present this video on said subject, as it has become very popular, even amongst "professing" Christians. It is very easy just to send this video link to all who are in favor of the questionable show. My question is: Should I take the time to watch the show for myself so that I can adequately defend the Biblical Jesus or do I just forward the link to this TH-cam video?🤔 Thank you in advance for your reply.
I highly recommend that you don't watch this show. I haven't watched any episodes but have seen some clips that have been shown as examples of how unbiblical the show is. Those images are now stuck in my mind. :(
When Dallas Jenkins came out of the gate 2 years ago on Melissa Dougherty's episode and said that 95% of the Bible isn't in the show and then trippled down on that same remark in front of Allie Beth Stuckey last December without any objection from her, then that is really all that you need to know. You can check it out for yourself. I've only watched the first season and that was more than enough. The interviews by Dallas in the years since has told me everything I need to know.
How can you make true judgments if you just rely on what could be practically "hearsays"? I take, if you want to make true judgments of whether this show is good or evil, you should see it for yourself. After all, it is not those shows that has blatant display of evil like gore violence (although it might have this when it gets to the crucifixion) or sexual immorality. It's more of how life was in first century Israel under Rome. Because if you just tell others not to watch it just because you heard others say this and that, aren't you bearing false witness?
@@animaticToshiue well that's easy to avoid this notion of you assuming that this is bearing false witness. I have watched the show and can confirm that it backs up Dallas Jenkins claim that 95% of the Bible isn't in the show and its completely inventing its own lore of the Christ event. So that is not hearsay, that is a fact. See how that works?
@@animaticToshiue I have seen enough of The Chosen to know that it's presenting a false christ and a false gospel. I don't have to watch all of it to know it's false, just like I don't have to read the entire Book of Mormon or any other books from other cults, to know they're false teachings. The Chosen is a bad, Bible flavored, soap opera that's manipulating people's emotions. It corrupts Bible reading, prayer, and worship by planting false narratives in the minds of viewers. Thank you so much for this podcast. I watched the very first episode of the chosen and the Holy Spirit impressed on me almost immediately there was something wrong. I found out later what it was but I can’t get other believers to discern the problems with it. It breaks my heart to know that so few Christians are biblically literate. What a sad state for the church.
This is so good and timely as some of us are dealing with an analysis of “The Chosen” by someone we respect and love but breaking the 2nd commandment is never dealt with. You all nail it Biblically. Thank you..
Could you address the relationship of God being Spirit and does not have a body like mine, yet He does now in the incarnation yet without sin. Jesus is and will forever be the God-man. In the eternal state will our worship of God be divided? Any help would be appreciated! God bless!
The key to your question is understanding that the members of the Trinity are of one undivided substance. This was the very issue that brought about the council of Nicea. It was settled, based (among other things) on the reading of passages such as Hebrews 1:3, which declares Jesus is the very substance of God. In our finite understanding, we can not grasp how it is that God remains undivided in substance, yet distinct in 3 persons. Likewise, we can not grasp how Christ is fully God and fully man, yet also remains undivided. So, while our worship can be directed specifically at the Son or the Father, it is still the one true God and is undivided, in that sense. In the same way, the nature of Christ is undivided, so when we worship Him, we worship Him in His fullness as both God and man. They are fully integrated. Our worship of Christ will not and can not be divided. I hope that's helpful.
"I am the Law", actually attacks the soteriology of protestant evangelicalism. Paul speaks of the Law as separate institution, fulfilling a separate cause than that of Jesus. When I first started watching Chosen, I thought it was unique, but over all stopped because there were so many undertones that were controversial.
Jesus saying “I am the Law of Moses” makes perfect theological sense. Whose 'finger' do you think it was that inscribed in stone tablets the Ten Commandments? To Whom do you think Moses was interacting with when he wrote the rest of Torah? Who lived the Law of Moses perfectly in His life, something that no one else has been able to do? Who, according to John 1 is the WORD WHO BECAME FLESH? And, Who bore the curse of the Law on the cross on our behalf (Rom 7:10)? The artistic license in The Chosen DOES NOT CONTRADICT BIBLICAL THEOLOGY!
Up to and including that mark showing the G3 panelists' analysis of The Chosen is highly flawed. The panelists are misinformed causing them to be full of conceit and deceit. Please read my rebuttal to the video here in this comment thread.
I felt uncomfortable from the very beginning when I first heard about the chosen. But, I finally watch the first season. I have to admit it's pretty emotional. I almost got hooked. Then I started seeing other critics talk about it. I remember as a teenager I watched Jesus Christ Superstar and godspell I thought they were great I still do. So I guess my thoughts are is there anything recreated on the TV screen about the Bible that is okay to watch?
How would the parables of Jesus, where He told fictional stories and one of the characters usually illustrated what God the Father is like, fit into this thinking? 🤔 Obviously He was not sinning in doing this, so He could not have been violating the 2nd commandment. Thanks. We appreciate you guys so much. 🙏

1) you're late to game, boys... but better late than never, so bless you guys. 2) you guys neglected SPECIFIC EXAMPLES from the series that show how dangerous Jenkins' trash ahow really is. for example, his depiction of the paralytic in Mark 2... specifically verses 3 and 5... Thank you for this, guys! Very helpful. 👍 I have one push back: Jesus is the image of the invisible God (Col 1). Jesus was fully a human. Jesus was a Jewish man. Jesus lived in 1st century Israel. All this gives us helpful knowledge of what Jesus would have looked like as a Jewish human man. So, pictures of Jesus as a 1st c. Jewish man, in my opinion, is not necessarily the problem. The Council of Nicaea (787AD) agrees. Only when those pictures (or icons) turn into idolatry, or that they are a "window to heaven" (as the Orthodox churches and Roman Catholics falsely believe), or that they are to be prayed to and venerated, THEN we have a problem. But, a simple image (even of Jesus) is violating the 2nd Commandment because Jesus is the image of the invisible God and was a real Jewish man in the 1st c. We don't worship any image. We don't venerate it. We don't pray to it. But, it can be helpful of reminding of the doctrine of Jesus' full humanity without leading to idolatry. So, this leads to permitting children's books having a cartoon Jesus. So long as that image is a Jewish man and the speech bubble is quoting from the Bible, there is no 2nd Commandment violation in my view. Concerning video-media: actors that portray Jesus have a serious problem, because even if they strictly use Jesus' quotes only, what you have is someone attempting (and failing every time!) to portray God incarnate. There is no way a human with a sinful nature--even a redeemed soul--can do this. They will get the facial expressions right, nor the tone of the words, nor the perfect humility, nor the tone of his anger, etc., etc. This is why I do like video-media or theater of Jesus. They cannot do justice to the Son of God and should therefore be avoided. Now, portraying other Bible character is fine with me, because it is a sin-nature human acting the role of another sin-nature human. That works, so long as one doesn't stretch the text of Scripture beyond it historical-grammatical understanding. Also, images/movies of Jesus as a baby is fine to me, because again Jesus was fully a human and therefore was born like every human and would have looked like every baby. So, not issue there because it is just a baby, no talk. All to say, I love what y'all have said on the LDS angle. This has always been my problem with "The Chosen." I have avoided it just for that reason and have encouraged other to do the same. The issue with the medium of entertainment or art is also concerning as it tends--as y'all said--to bypass the mind and settle in the emotions. That is a problem, because our knowledge of Jesus (from Scripture) must inform and drive our emotions, not the other way around, as media does. (this is the longest comment I have ever made on TH-cam.....🤔😂). I am happy to engage where I am wrong. But, the above is where I land at the moment. Thank again guys! Your love for Christ and His Word are clear and encouraging. ☺

I'm in full agreement with you about the dangers of The Chosen. I warn people against it. The question I have is about the use of images. Lutherans, for example, will point out that the Tabernacle had images of angels in the curtains as well as molded angels on either end of the Ark of the Covenant. I think this is a good discussion to be had. Why do y'all say about that use of images?
@@marebear09 The 2nd Commandment: “You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. Lutherans say: "So, what about the images of angels in the Tabernacle?" G3 says: ?? I would like to know how to respond to folks like the Lutherans.
@@carolberubee I love G3, but I believe they are so much wanting to protect reformed theology ( which I am in agreement with ) that they purposefully leave out the rest of that commandment. Notice they stopped at “heaven above” and just put 3 dots (…) rather then completing the entire context of the commandment. The second commandment IS an extension of the first, because it is about idol worship. And it says not to create carved images from heaven above ( think sun gods ), earth below ( golden calf ), or the waters beneath ( there was even a fish god ), with the intent of WORSHIPING it. (Or even worship God THROUGH it.) Remember, when Moses brought down the 10 commandments from Mount Sinai, the Israelites had just come out of centuries of slavery in Egypt where everything the Egyptians worshiped was carved images. It was a culture they were immersed in that they had to leave behind, and wasn’t that what Israel kept getting in trouble for over and over? Worshiping other gods? (Judges 2:11) Children’s bibles, felt board images of Jesus, Jesus coloring books, or nativity scenes aren’t being utilized to worship God. If that’s their conviction it’s fine, but it isn’t what the scripture says. That said, I am not a fan of The Chosen, but for all the other reasons they talked about, not it being a 2nd commandment violation. But I DO believe it’s true that some are placing this tv show into a place of worship in their hearts, caring more about defending a show than caring if it’s scriptural or not.
Any church promoting The Chosen is suspect at best on their theology/doctrine. I ran across a snippet of The Chosen where Matthew was portrayed as some kind of neurotic ocd type which is nuts to begin with and I walked out. That was enough for me.
Matthew is portrayed as what is called Asperger's Syndrome or high funtioning Autism which my grandson has has as other people I know. I am sure the Jesus I know, the Jesus of the Bible, would not choose someone to be His disciple just because he was mentally or phydically challenged. You are saying you are a better judge of people than Jesus. I'm glad Jesus accepted my grandson when he put his faith in Jesus and didn't turn him away because he was "some kind of neurotic OCD type".
@@cyndatanner5161 you missed the point. That portrayal is not Biblically accurate. Your personal experiences don’t matter. That’s not who Matthew was and it’s vulgar and heretical to portray a great apostle of God in the manner in which Matthew was displayed.

Yes, there are some interwoven Mormon Doctrinal quotes which is entirely "Non Christian" and as an Ex-Mormon Priest and Second Spiritual Councillor that was convicted by the Lord to leave the LDS Church and preach the true Gospel I can entirely agree those instances are heretical. Not one human being on this planet has walked in body with Christ's body. therefore, we can never truly know him as a physical man. All screen depictions, therefore, will be wrong. Bible translations will have some misinterpretation, we should all know this, hence the NIV debate. Artistic license is clearly being used to pad out the secondary "stories" and are obviously for dramatic effect, thus keeping hold of an audience as drama seems to be the hook with any television show. All that said there is valuable content in 'The Chosen', and there's also the chaff. The best option is to be Biblically mindful and fact-check what you hear in each episode. The Chosen makes money but is crowd funded, actors and staff get paid. The Gospel is free and ultimately valuable. Preaching the Gospel should also be a financially free resource. NIV Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ, we speak before God with sincerity, as those sent from God. Hypocrisy binds the hands and minds of fools. Jesus didn't say this, no famous philosophor or great litrary observer penned this... I concluded this through basic common sense. A common sense Christ suggests we exercise every day! KJV For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ The G3 Conference currently costs $119 - Early Bird Conference Special. $119.00. G3 Prime Registration. $199.00 + $3.00 booking fee. Ticket prices will increase on February 1, 2023. G3 Prime Student Rate $150.00 Preaching the gospel should incur no financial cost, yet some preachers want payment. Watching some inaccuracies in the Chosen should not drive people to incorrect doctrine as long as we highlight the mistakes. See it for what it is, a dramatised TV show about Christ who is somewhat of an outline of who we really know Christ is. Just like we know we shouldn't have to pay to hear a preacher, yet some of us still do! Hypocrisy is a bad seed. Remember.. plank, eye! It's unfortunate to see how many "defenders of the word" are patting each other on the back saying "how right and rightous they are" when they're obviously just being aggressive about partially inaccurate information. There's good and bad in all of us, we sin every day, we're dirty rags to the Lord yet we're failing to see 'The Chosen' has the same issues. Just because a good plant has a weed growing with it doesn't diminish the good plant.
Part of the reason is because of the blackeye the then VidAngel took at the courts over copyright infingement when that gizmo of theirs was used to clean up what you watch on television. The rebranding is to move away from that.
An interesting point was made by Allie Beth Stuckey that I though was ironic: "They sacrifice truth for relevance and in so doing it they offer a Jesus that isn't real. And a Jesus that is not real cannot save." That is a direct quote by her just last Feburary on her Relatable episode that she devoted to clapping back the He Gets Us super bowl ads. It is a pity that this passion and concern for the Gospels and Jesus Christ was not voiced by Stuckey at all on December 2022 in her interview of Dallas and The Chosen for doing EXACTLY the same thing. The double standard by social media influencers using Christianity as their brand is deeply troubling but not at all surprising.
🤣 Thank you! NOT I! That has always bothered me. Christ was nearly 2 years old when Herod slaughtered all males 2 and under in Bethlehem trying to kill Jesus off. Why 2 and under? If the 3 wise men from the east had come right at or slightly before Jesus' birth in Bethlehem, Herod would have had all males born in the previous few days, weeks or months slaughtered, not 2 year olds and under. It's the shepherds who visit Christ in the manger. The wise men come along somewhere in the first 2 years after Jesus' birth. So, that has always bugged me. Either God tells the Truth or He doesn't. There is no in between. I believe God, rather than man.
Images of Christ are not inherently a violation of the second commandment. Especially when you consider this same command is against graven images of things in earth and in the ocean as well...and everyone has pictures, statues, figures, dolls etc in their homes and they don't think twice about it. So the idea that an image or depiction of Christ is automatically a violation is simply not true. The one gentleman said that it's not about worship but simply having the image, but that's not true at all or else it wouldn't have mentioned graven things of earth and ocean.
Not having looked at much G3 material, I was a little afraid to click the link, frankly. Very relieved to see it was a podcast. I could not get through the first episode of the first season of "The Chosen". When it comes to my understanding of God, it was reading the Bible that rescued me from false teaching I was inundated with some 40 years ago (and walked away from). So, before I even got to the concepts of "idolatry" I was just having conniptions over the extreme license the show took with the story of Jesus. Plausibility? Are you kidding me? I don't worship a "plausible" God, I worship the God in the Bible who is Real, unchanging, and eternal. I pray to the God described in the Bible as a Trinity, as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. And that is who saved me. So, no, I couldn't even get through the first episode of that show....and I was trying to just "make it to the end". But it was too horrible. Imagine, someone writing a life story of your mom, and they decide to add something they think is "plausible" but never was her? Wouldn't that upset you? And that's just the human being you call "mom". Don't mess with my God! I really hated it. So I stand solidly with the opinions expressed in this video.
Good ol G3 being G3 in this video. They are sooo strict. I mean even RC Sproul doesn't hold the position these guys are espousing. What about my children's bibles with pictures of the ark, giraffes, and Jesus?
I'd say that the issue is that the creator of the Chosen says he is portraying the "authentic" Jesus while putting words in His mouth, changing His message, and placing an interpretation of His behavior and emotions. Does the book you have do that?
Who can, while in a state of fellowship with God, dare to play at being a prophet? Who has the gall to pretend to be an apostle, even in a show? Where is his reverence? Where is his fear? Where is his humility? Any one who can bring himself to act a part for any purpose, must first have grieved the Spirit and silenced His voice within the heart. ~A.Z Tozer~
At 19:28, God never said not to touch the fruit of the tree, He only said not to eat the fruit of the tree. Eve said that in Genesis 3:3, changing the Word of God, which was the first sin committed in the garden.
The main problem with the show is that people are invested in the drama and the side stories. All of the positive reviews I've watched are talking about things that never happened in scripture, like miscarriages, Jesus refusing to heal someone, drama between characters that were never in the Bible, etc. Then people argue that these stories are plausible and compare them to actual biblical events. This elevates the fiction to the same level as scripture, when it's pure fiction driven by Mormon and Catholic theology. Nope. No thank you. I'll just read the Bible.
Which this was a long way of saying The Chosen is anti-Christian. But there were great things discussed here and this is what it looks like to ask critical questions. Maybe you can help remind Allie Beth Stuckey of what that looks like if Glenn Beck will allow it...
@@mombythesea2426 he said that before over a year ago after Melissa Dougherty if I recall. Then he goes on interviews that he agrees to go on that don't bother to ask him hard questions whenever he needs new marketing for a new season. Especially on those who appeared to be a Berean type. It really is a litmus test to see if a social media Christian has loose standards if he agrees to show up as we have painfully seen recently...
@@pettifoggingpharisee I agree. I'm just saying he has stated that he doesn't want to defend himself on the issue so I don't think the creators were wrong to make a video about him without inviting him on to defend himself. Dallas has already said he has no interest.
7:39 You fellas are being far to gracious with Allie Beth Stuckey. She pressed Dallas exactly ONCE and spent the entire time reflecting back his response to the questions he agreed to answer and even coached Dallas through some of it. No critical questions were asked by Allie Beth Stuckey. It was made more disgraceful that Lynn Wilder in the prior episode point blank warned her that Mormonism is couched in Christian language and about the show with Allie admitting that she never watched it, only to turn around and declare in the middle of the Dallas interview that Mormonism is not influencing the show. She's been hiding under her bed tweeting ever since to avoid answering this.
What does a building have to do with anything? There is something not quite right about Presbyterians. I'm not quite sure what it is yet but give me time.
A lot. I used to go to a Presbyterian church. BUT, to my understanding, there is a separation of the Presbyterian church, in which more concretive Presbyterians are their own community now. Like I said though, a lot. They are very worldly now, being accepting to things that the Bible clearly states is wrong. Also much more focused on ceremony aspects of worship instead of preaching God's word. A couple of Bible verses and a "feel good" message. Sometimes they would speak about sin, but not a lot. I also fell like there is some work based salvation slipped in there.
@@durflangit Sounds about right. I found these guys because they were in the channel tab of Dr Michel Heiser. I had to unsubscribe from him the other day when he uploaded a video condoning female preachers.
Dallas has explained ad nauseam concerning each point here. The series is doing more good than any possible harm. Have y’all read any of the comments? Young people are getting into their Bibles and understand TC isn’t the Bible. People for example with dementia and autism are relating to TC and watching when they’ve never connected with anything else before.
The G3 panelists' analysis of The Chosen is highly flawed. The panelists are misinformed causing them to be full of conceit and deceit. Please read my rebuttal to the video here in this comment thread.
Kathy bj...your ignorance is really creepy. Educate yourself by studying the non-Biblocal doctrine taught by the Mormon cult, and echoed by its Mormon producers of The Chosen. Jenkins isnt even a Christian. He is a money maker who knows where his check is coming from. Angel Studios is owned and operated by Mormons!
I want to start off by saying I love G3 and their content. I also want to say I do see many concerns with The Chosen series as well as with depicting Jesus in the arts overall. However, I see an error in understanding the second commandment here. You only reference Exodus 20:4a, and it does a disservice to the full command. “You shall not make for yourself a carved image-any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.” Exodus 20:4-6 NKJV The first commandment is about not worshipping other gods. The second commandment is about not worshipping the one true God through an image. It has less to do with creating an image of something, but everything to do with worshiping that image. Otherwise, art in general would go against God's Word since we should not make images of heavenly things OR earthly things. I love you guys, but the context of the second commandment in its entirety was neglected.
I agree with The Chosen series being scripturally wrong. People just do not read their Bibles. Like God doesn't talk their language. I learned..after about a year of reading every day.. God the Holy Spirit will teach one to know God, and give the one who really wants to know.. understanding. I receive corrections alot. And the Holy Spirit keeps me in the scriptures.
"The Chosen" show is a train wreck and has blasphemous scenes. The show actually gives me the creeps lol. I agree with everything except the reformed view of the 2nd commandment (I don't believe that all images are immediately sin). ^•^ I appreciate all that was said in this video even if I didn't agree with it all. This definitely gave me things to think about more.

[Rebuttal of the G3 critique of The Chosen, PART 1] Note: all quotes from the G3 panel of commentators are directly from the TH-cam video transcript and are timestamped in sync with the video. This rebuttal will be several days in the making but I will post it in parts as I complete them for the sake of sectional brevity. I am taking the time to make this rebuttal to counter the apparent ignorance, extreme bias, and ‘doctrinalotry’ of the commentators. (3:20) Are they (The Passion of the Christ sequel) playing off of the success of The Chosen (TC)? Answer, “probably”. Fact: It’s not about the “success of TC”, but about finishing the story of The Passion of the Christ. And Mel Gibson’s production team was planning the sequel long before the apparent success of TC. (4:10) Three ‘problems’ that need to be discussed. 1. The Mormon problem. 2. The 2nd Commandment problem. 3. People’s lack of understand of art and media. (4:41) so, regarding the “Mormon problem”, Virgil Walker begins by making a statement and then immediately recants it. Is he confused? Here’s his statement, “. . . producers of the movie or or those who are who are promoting the movie uh it's it's uh the Mormon church not the Mormon church it's the folks who are connected uh with with the Mormon Church they are producing this . . .” Fact: it’s not a “movie” but a multi-season TV show. Then he makes it sound like all of the producers are Mormon when, as far as I know, there are two out of twelve+ producers that are Mormon. They are principally responsible for the dissemination of TC through a variety of media, and they are doing a great job of it. Moreover, they have NOTHING to say about the screenplay of the show. That is under the auspices of three Evangelical writers, who also consult with a Roman Catholic priest, a Messianic Jewish Rabbi, and Evangelical Bible scholar to provide balance to the content of the script. Notice that ‘LDS Bishop’ was not included in that consultation. Moreover, Virgil says TC is affiliated with the LDS religion and then immediately recants his statement. But just like a good court prosecutor he got his shot in before overriding himself. Just because a couple of the producers and distributors have some members who are Mormon doesn’t mean TC has the official endorsement of the LDS church. They don’t. And to say they do or that LDS has influence on TC is a blatant statement of ignorance or agenda-driven deception. IT IS A NON-ISSUE. Dallas’ apologetic on the so-called “Mormon problem” th-cam.com/video/SZrZ4meAoOk/w-d-xo.html (4:54) “. . . they're [Mormons] pushing it out on video and and and and and [sic] the idea that they're that they're really promoting is uh the idea that there are additional stories that you can add to scripture uh that tell the story of Jesus . . .” Fact: and this is an utter lie. Virgil, sorry dude, but you’re blowin’ smoke with this one. This is a fabrication, not based on factual reality. First, as I have previously stated, the Mormons have NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SCRIPT of TC. Second, the content is solely the responsibility of Dallas Jenkins, the creator, executive producer, director, and co-writer of the screenplay for TC. Third, there are only two other writers, and they are conservative Evangelicals as well. Fourth, the backstories in question here are NOT the product of the Mormons, but the artistic license of the writers. And “additional stories added”? Consider them to be what the Apostle John edited out of his Gospel (John 20:30; 21:25) who, for the sake of brevity, didn’t include his ‘backstories’, but where TC does for the sake of screenplay fluidity. It is plausible script and none of which they added contradicts Biblical theology. IT IS A NON-ISSUE. (5:18) “ . . . the problem with the Mormon connection as it relates to this movie was uh Mormon Doctrine would be infused and and we do have an issue there I think it was the the last episode uh during the Christmas time uh what we saw was a reference to third Nephi right I believe it was third in Nephi 15 9 that actually had the quote there where where he says uh Jesus says or the the character says I am the law right I am the law um that's that's that's a problem because [a)] it comes out of not the Bible but it comes out of the Book of Mormon . . .” Fact: there is no “Mormon connection” and Dallas Jenkins DID NOT consult the Book of Mormon (BOM) and was unaware that the line he wrote for the Jesus character was even in the BOM. The actual line was, “I am the Law of Moses” in response to the Pharisee challenge to Jesus’ authority. And the line doesn’t even directly match the 3 Nephi 15:9 quote. Another empty allegation, A NON-ISSUE. Dallas’ rebuttal of quoting from the Book of Mormon? th-cam.com/video/m2qT8wKKpb8/w-d-xo.html (5:55) “. . . secondarily there are a lot of theological issues to be addressed as it relates to that . . .” Fact: What theological issues, Virgil? Have you even watched any episode of The Chosen? Or are you and your cohorts doing what many of the other critics are doing, critiquing something you haven’t watched? Smh IT IS A NON-ISSUE. . . . . more to come . . . .
WIth the mormon issue you said not a problem in the Chosen movie? Can you explain? Even if there are few actors mormon it is a spiritual base film so watching it people might get influence by Mormonism. And the chosen series is more happy joking Jesus which changes who Christ was during that time.

@@sorrowinchrist3387 I'll give you the same challenge I've given to others. Show me one place in the Script that contradicts Biblical theology. You assume that contact with people of aberrant religions has somehow contaminated the script.
God forbids images that will be worshipped. That is what "image" means. It is not wrong to portray Jesus in a film as long as people are not worshiping the actor or worship that actor as though he is Jesus. What matters is what is said and what they have Jesus says. I have posted warnings on "The Chosen" for other reasons, not that it has Jesus in it. There are some excellent films on the gospels where the only words are straight out of the Bible. But having Jesus say things he would not say because they are against his nature is what is the issue, as well as Jenkins working with Mormons and his statements about them believing in the same Jesus.
The scriptures is sufficient for the truth.
I am very grateful to God for this
Thank you for extrapolating and underlining the pertinent issues at hand, biblically and culturally.
Incredibly disheartening indeed. We need to pray for people to have discernment and they need to study their bible.
Yes for sure. I am doing what I can in my local church to teach people how to study the Bible. I also do this on my website and podcast as well. It saddens me to see so many people in church not know the Bible much more than a fifth grade student would.@@laurenlimebrook9828
I sa the first issue and rejected everything in it. Isaw it online, not tv. I choose to get rid of the television some time ago.
The thing that is heart-sickening is that we live in a time in which we have to try to explain why these things are heretical. We live in a totally Bible-illiterate society.
And its sickening too to make the claim that visual representation is idolatrous get rid of all technological items if that is the case.

The Chosen is a TV show, not a re-write of the Bible, not a new religion, sect, or cult, such as this G3 group is. To be an effective TV show it needs to have a fluid and relevant script.
Let me ask you this regarding 'add to the Word of God'. When your pastor or Bible teacher quotes a section of the Bible and then spends the next 45 minutes expounding on said section, is he not adding to Scripture? Do you really expect him to read the Bible out loud, and then go sit down and see if it sinks in? No, his sermon, or teaching outline filled in with quotes, references, textual context is most certainly additions to the Word of God. Why should TC be treated any different? Yes the chosen has issue but G3 has issues too be saying all visual representation in children book and other ways to communication is idolatrous.
@@sorrowinchrist3387 when did one of these men say that children's books are idolatrous?
@@HearGodsWord are you blind to their hypocrisy? NO IMAGES OF JESUS anywhere for any reason, including actors. I am grateful for the necessity of the Reformation whose goals included mitigating or even eliminating images of deity, images in stone, paintings, icons, pendants, etc. But modern Reformed tradition takes it too far when they forget Jesus was a physical human being Who lived on the Earth.

Lots of defensive pushback when one tries to warn, shed light, etc. Another tool Satan is using within the church to cause division and confusion. We must stand strong! Cling to the Word of God. Great points within the podcast. There’s so much to this, so many layers, but you hit the crucial topics. Thank you.

Thank you so much for sounding the alarm.
Somehow over 2 and half years later I'm just now seeing the Dallas Jenkins interview clip.

💯
Dallas Jenkins outright admitted 2 years ago on Melissa Dougherty's episode that he wanted to make a jesus that everyone can agree on. This in spite of his claim in that same interview that his goal is to depict an authentic Jesus Christ.
Folks tend to shy away from saying this, but I have no problems doing it for them. Dallas Jenkins talks out both sides of his mouth because he is a liar and only in mainstream Christianity has he been allowed to do so. And other Christians who help him, including a certain "Relatable" Christian commentor recently, are just as bad as he is.
Exactly!
Oh no! I might have been deceived! The man who played Jesus on The Jesus movie put out by campus crusade was NOT a Christian.
Very important point in today's world of deception!
I found this really hard as a visual learner and also someone who taught Sunday School.

My question is:
Should I take the time to watch the show for myself so that I can adequately defend the Biblical Jesus or do I just forward the link to this TH-cam video?🤔
Thank you in advance for your reply.

I felt uncomfortable from the very beginning when I first heard about the chosen. But, I finally watch the first season. I have to admit it's pretty emotional. I almost got hooked. Thank you for this, guys! Very helpful. 👍
I have one push back: Jesus is the image of the invisible God (Col 1).

I am happy to engage where I am wrong. But, the above is where I land at the moment.

Agree with Chosen being bad but on G3 that visual representation as idolatrous is harmful.
Angels are not images of God, which is what the 2nd commandment is talking about.
@@marebear09 The 2nd Commandment: “You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. You shall not worship them or serve them..."
So, G3 says: "No likenesses of anything in heaven or on earth, which would eliminate angels and every other created thing."
Lutherans say: "So, what about the images of angels in the Tabernacle?"
G3 says: ??
(Judges 2:11)
Children’s bibles, felt board images of Jesus, Jesus coloring books, or nativity scenes aren’t being utilized to worship God.
@@carolberubee Ah, I see.

Preaching the gospel should incur no financial cost, yet some preachers want payment.
Remember.. plank, eye!

There's good and bad in all of us, we sin every day, we're dirty rags to the Lord yet we're failing to see 'The Chosen' has the same issues.
Just because a good plant has a weed growing with it doesn't diminish the good plant.
I read they rebranded VidAngel to Angel Studios.
Part of the reason is because of the blackeye the then VidAngel took at the courts over copyright infingement when that gizmo of theirs was used to clean up what you watch on television. The rebranding is to move away from that.
An interesting point was made by Allie Beth Stuckey that I though was ironic:
"They sacrifice truth for relevance and in so doing it they offer a Jesus that isn't real. And a Jesus that is not real cannot save."
That is a direct quote by her just last Feburary on her Relatable episode that she devoted to clapping back the He Gets Us super bowl ads.
Believers in North Korea and in Pakistan are not having these types of debates.

Anything that popular is questioning anything the world loves not the love of the Father

@@heathobrien356 I was joking. I was quoting josh verbatim when he said, "now people are probably going to object by saying . . ." :)

P.S. God didn’t say “you must not touch….” Eve said He said it.
Satan is a liar. Read the book of Genesis.
I have not seen it; how can I find it? Will it be on television?
At 19:28, God never said not to touch the fruit of the tree, He only said not to eat the fruit of the tree. Eve said that in Genesis 3:3, changing the Word of God, which was the first sin committed in the garden.
I caught that too.
People need to turn the tv off and get into the pure unadulterated Word.
Me too, sister, me too.
They present Jesus as weak and vacillating, a mere man.. ..definitely Mormonism.
Which this was a long way of saying The Chosen is anti-Christian. But there were great things discussed here and this is what it looks like to ask critical questions. Maybe you can help remind Allie Beth Stuckey of what that looks like if Glenn Beck will allow it...
Glenn Beck is a Mormon. He will go for amything that gives the cult publicity.
I'm sure Dallas would have loved to join you and allow you to question him. Did I miss a mention that he was invited to defend himself?
I'm curious if you feel that these men did something wrong or sinful in this podcast.
I think Dallas publicly stated not too long ago that he was giving one final message defending his point and didn't want to speak on it anymore
Well stated. Please read my rebuttal to the video here in this comment thread.
The Nephi thing has been disproven, wish brothers would look into this stuff before shooting off at the mouth and repeating slander.
I like Allie, but I agree she didn’t press hard enough on Him in that interview.
For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.”
Exodus 20:4-6 NKJV
The first commandment is about not worshipping other gods.
Fully agree with your assessment.
Garden of Eden- The tree was fenced off? They were told not to touch or eat of it?
I agree with The Chosen series being scripturally wrong. People just do not read their Bibles. Like God doesn't talk their language. I learned..after about a year of reading every day.. God the Holy Spirit will teach one to know God, and give the one who really wants to know.. understanding. I receive corrections alot. And the Holy Spirit keeps me in the scriptures.
"The Chosen" show is a train wreck and has blasphemous scenes. The show actually gives me the creeps lol.
I agree with everything except the reformed view of the 2nd commandment (I don't believe that all images are immediately sin). ^•^
I appreciate all that was said in this video even if I didn't agree with it all. This definitely gave me things to think about more.
How would symbols of the Trinity in the worship service be viewed in your view ?
No idols. He is spirit. The Church of Rome is symbol worship.

[Rebuttal of the G3 critique of The Chosen, PART 1]
Note: all quotes from the G3 panel of commentators are directly from the TH-cam video transcript and are timestamped in sync with the video.
Here’s his statement, “. . . producers of the movie or or those who are who are promoting the movie uh it's it's uh the Mormon church not the Mormon church it's the folks who are connected uh with with the Mormon Church they are producing this . . .”
Fact: it’s not a “movie” but a multi-season TV show.
Dallas’ apologetic on the so-called “Mormon problem”
th-cam.com/video/SZrZ4meAoOk/w-d-xo.html
(4:54) “. . . they're [Mormons] pushing it out on video and and and and and [sic] the idea that they're that they're really promoting is uh the idea that there are additional stories that you can add to scripture uh that tell the story of Jesus . . .”
Fact: and this is an utter lie.
(5:18) “ . . . the problem with the Mormon connection as it relates to this movie was uh Mormon Doctrine would be infused and and we do have an issue there I think it was the the last episode uh during the Christmas time uh what we saw was a reference to third Nephi right I believe it was third in Nephi 15 9 that actually had the quote there where where he says uh Jesus says or the the character says I am the law right I am the law um that's that's that's a problem because [a)] it comes out of not the Bible but it comes out of the Book of Mormon . . .”
Fact: there is no “Mormon connection” and Dallas Jenkins DID NOT consult the Book of Mormon (BOM) and was unaware that the line he wrote for the Jesus character was even in the BOM. The actual line was, “I am the Law of Moses” in response to the Pharisee challenge to Jesus’ authority. And the line doesn’t even directly match the 3 Nephi 15:9 quote. Another empty allegation, A NON-ISSUE.
Dallas’ rebuttal of quoting from the Book of Mormon?
th-cam.com/video/m2qT8wKKpb8/w-d-xo.html
(5:55) “. . . secondarily there are a lot of theological issues to be addressed as it relates to that . . .”
Fact: What theological issues, Virgil?
@@sorrowinchrist3387 [WIth the mormon issue you said not a problem in the Chosen movie? Can you explain?]
It was explained in my rebuttal. You would do well to re-read it.

There are no actors that are Mormon as far as I know. In another post you erroneously assumed the actor playing Jesus was Mormon. He is not. He is a redeemed Roman Catholic who loves Jesus as much as I do.
[. . .it is a spiritual base film . . .]
. . . With absolutely no Mormon influence in the script. Re-read my rebuttal.
[. . . people might get influence by Mormonism.]
There is nothing in the show that would explicitly or implicitly convey anything that is remotely Mormon. All three screenplay writers are Evangelical and are solely responsible for the content of the script. Re-read my rebuttal.
[And the chosen series is more happy joking Jesus . . .]
Are you saying that our historical Biblical Jesus was less than human and had no sense of humor? He was 100% human as well as being 100% God (the Son). Btw, humor is not a sin. Jesus' choice of words was meant to insult the Pharisees while providing comic relief for the victims of their hypocrisy. Get a clue.

If it was done by catholic or even islam it still be the same.
[Are you saying that our historical Biblical Jesus was less than human and had no sense of humor?]
its not about being human its about being historical accurate like as Jesus did not tell jokes and was happy joy jumping. Could have a Jesus who is white and on it goes.
@@sorrowinchrist3387 I'll give you the same challenge I've given to others. Show me one place in the Script that contradicts Biblical theology. You assume that contact with people of aberrant religions has somehow contaminated the script.
So then are all films and adaptations of any of the stories in the Bible wrong? Are Nativity scenes inherently wrong because they’re not exact?
God forbids images that will be worshipped. That is what "image" means. It is not wrong to portray Jesus in a film as long as people are not worshiping the actor or worship that actor as though he is Jesus. What matters is what is said and what they have Jesus says. I have posted warnings on "The Chosen" for other reasons, not that it has Jesus in it. There are some excellent films on the gospels where the only words are straight out of the Bible. But having Jesus say things he would not say because they are against his nature is what is the issue, as well as Jenkins working with Mormons and his statements about them believing in the same Jesus.
