    It's cool how they opened up the outer shell of the engine, so that you can see the internal components.

    The California Railroad museum is a Magic place. It's in Historic Old Sacramento on the BIG river and old railfans like me have taken our children and grandchildren there countless times. It's a history lesson and a world class museum combined. As a Bonus, a couple of small blocks away there's an amazing candy shop with free samples so you can wind up your grandkids and hand them back to your kids. Yes, I'm that Grandpa and I'm a hero.

      @@Matts_Conrail_Chicago_Mainline Depends on who you talk to. There's basically two camps within the museum's administration: The "sides-on/full-restoration" camp, and the "sides-off/teaching-exhibit" camp. Right now the "sides-off" group is winning, mainly because the original panels are rotted through and new ones would have to be fabricated for any restoration to take place.

    Joe Trains asked about power to pull the locomotive. One answer is the that the locomotive is very free rolling. I once has the chance to visit the long Island shops and accidentally leaned against a truck that was just sitting there. I almost fell down when it moved out from under me. Very easy to do. There are videos of men pulling a trains too.

      Completely understand - ex-car painter here, current railroad worker having seen quite a few older SP units that still had the green interior paint showing through newer cream colored paint here and there.
      Is that DuPont Corlar Epoxy Primer I’m seeing there? Prepping for an Imron finish coat?

    • @SOU6900

      I'm gonna say that's just a primer

    • @ralfie8801
      @ralfie8801 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SOU6900
      That's exactly what it is, the guy replied to me that it was primer, then apparently deleted his reply. Most locomotives were and are painted with DuPont Imron polyurethane enamel because of its resistance to weathering and the harsh chemicals railroads typically use to clean them, and most people that paint Imron use DuPont Corlar epoxy primer on the freshly sandblasted bare substrate.

    • @williamlewis4680
      @williamlewis4680 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought the same thing. If they plan to run it, I hope the red primer is heat resistant or, there will be problems when they heat up that engine block.

      It was Athern who kept the other companies in line with their low competitive prices and quality trains. All, made in the USA at the time, in Hawthorn, CA., near the toy giant, Mattel.

    • @josephbennett3482
      @josephbennett3482 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sacramento is the name of the capital city of California , it got the name from the Sacramento River.
      Here's a small paragraph from Wikipedia:
      Sacramento was named after theSacramento River, which forms its western border. The river was named by Spanish cavalry officer Gabriel Moraga for the Santisimo Sacramento (Most Holy Sacrament), referring to the Catholic Eucharist.
