    Got the 2001 model this spring, I love its looks and in particular the drive. Endless power. A dream of a bike.

    They sell well in Europe, the frame is hydroform. The use pressurized water to make the bends, and the engine was designed by porsche. Same w/ the street 500,and 750, and they don't use press together flywheels that tend to shift, and the v rod has side by side connecting rods on babbitt bearings with a modern day solid crank and a counterballancer. The v angle is 60 degree including the street models, not 45 degree like the twin cam. The sound isn't quite the same. I think if that engine was on a different frame to be more rider friendly you would have better sales! It's a smooth cool bike, and I'm glad Harley thought outside the box. Let's hope the can engineer the next generation pushrod Harley in house! Great videos!!! peace out

      +MM Peace They don't sell well in Europe. Where did you get that opinion? I've not seen one V-Rod in over 4 years that wasn't owned and ridden by an American. Hydroforming wasn't new in 2000, it was invented in 1957.

      Yes it was, but for Harley it was new. I mean in a good way. I thought it was Brazil, I read a article a few years back.

    Thanks for the review. How tall are you? Do you think it would be more or less comfortable for someone 5'4"?

  • @jroberthadden
    @jroberthadden 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, they do have a slipper clutch and these prefer to be ridden above 5,000 rpm where as the big twin H-Ds like it around 3,000. My '14 Night Rod would touch 140mph.

    My back doesn’t like it either, I’m 6 ft 3. Maybe there are aftermarket parts to ease it a little bit?

    im 6"4 and im comfortable riding it, probably most complains comes from for short raiders. You actually didnt had the chance to really enjoyed the fun of the bike because you have to keep yourself behind the guide guy , it performs 0 to 60 in 3.5 secs, is a lot of fun to ride at low speeds but at high RPMs is another beast. Discontinued or not im not planing to trade ir sale mine.

    Witch one do you think is the fastest factory harley? Also i'm deciding between this one or the night road special... differences?

    • @arch417powersports
      @arch417powersports  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The VRod is probably the fastest Harley from the factory. And I think it's just cosmetic differences between this and the night rod.

    Love the color, and I have always liked the V-Rods, but I don't like the handlebars. 2 great things I like is that it don't vibrate, and it's nice and quiet. Loud bikes are annoying.
    The great thing about a Harley is that they have great bottom end torque.

      +RakinBill I love the V-Rods as well and being 5'-7" I have an issue with the reach. I saw that they offer an extended reach handlebar which raises the reach up 1.5" and back 4". That would be the first accessory that I invest in if I buy one.

    Do a review on the 2017 Victory Octane. Been looking for a starter bike let me know what you think.

    • @arch417powersports
      @arch417powersports  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I wouldn't say the Octane would be a good beginner bike because it's got more power than the Indian Scout. Watch my latest video on the Indian Scout Sixty.

    I stopped paying attention a long time ago to these reviews because the majority of them are not objective but influenced by an ax to grind. If you don't like Harley's, then don't ride them, stay on your rice burners and move on. From start to finish, it took six years to introduce the VROD. Why, they could have thrown something together in no time. The reason is, because Harley Davidson wanted to do it right and they did. Another inaccuracy that I have heard is Porsche designed the engine. Wrong, the development of the engine was based off of the Harley Davidson super bike VR1000 and it was a collaborative effort between Harley Davidson and Porsche. The word collaborative means both companies worked on it simultaneously. From its inception, the VROD was designed and manufactured to be a departure from traditional Harley's and it proved the naysayers wrong that Harley Davidson didn't have the capacity to build a high tech, performance oriented bike. Harley Davidson has been around for 113 years, they have seen it all and done it all and have the ability to produce anything they put their mind to and achieve their intentions. The Harley Davidson Live Wire is another good example of this. I have read articles that say that the Harley Davidson's being produced today didn't change. Whenever I hear this remark, I immediately know the writer doesn't know what he's talking about. Harley Davidson is a very customer oriented company who enjoys a very loyal following, with this privilege comes a responsibility to satisfy their core customers who are attracted to a certain look. However, underneath the surface, Harley Davidson does a good job of melding classic styling with sophisticated, refined bikes. I concur with the notion that while it's great to have such loyal fans, it does hold Harley Davidson back from producing a wider range of bikes that the company has the ability to produce and might like to incorporate in their line up. People should disabuse themselves that in order to put a quality product out there, it has to be a reincarnation of a Japanese motorcycle. A major reason for Harley Davidson's success stems from the fact that they are different and have something else to offer that's attractive and quality focused.. There is no need to rip down one product in favor of another. There is enough room to satisfy different customers. All it takes is a little understanding and maturity.

      +Lawrence Kauderer Here is the first problem: price. Why do they cost so much? They don't use exotic materials that are expensive or are difficult to manufacture. They don't use advanced technology that can't benefit from economy of scale. And they don't use any advanced manufacturing techniques that would cut into their profits.
      Harley Davidson could improve their motorcycles without losing any of their character, but they don't.
      "produce anything they put their mind to and achieve their intentions. The Harley Davidson Live Wire is another good example of this" They have no plans on producing that motorcycle, Matt Levatich, said that battery technology needs to improve a 50 mile range isn't enough and a production motorcycle would cost too much to be competitive. While small company EV's have a 100 mile range and are in production. I watched the documentary on the development of the VROD someone actually said "We are going to shock the world" and "This is going to rock the motorcycle world". The only world that was shocked or rocked was the Harley world.
      The reason it took them 6 years is because Harley Davidson don't know how to build anything from the ground up since they don't do it. Going to Porsche saved them years of time, I believe. How much have their frames changed in the past 50 years? Outside of the V-Rod hydro-formed frames they could have been made 50 years ago. Which brings me to my second to the last point, all of this development for a single motorcycle and they haven't leveraged those skills or techniques to make their motorcycles better or even just different.
      Their VR1000 never won a race.
      There are German and Italian motorcycle manufacturers. Austrian, too! Japanese motorcycles in the same price range as the Street series are made with much greater care and pride. When the Japanese cut corners they hide it, when Harley cut corners on the Street series they didn't even cut the corners all the way off.

      +Derek Jonez You get what you pay for. Buy a new Honda, then re-sell it. Buy a new Harley, and re-sell that. Which one do you think you will get a better resale value on?

    • @Dudsy907
      @Dudsy907 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Russell Munson that's not the point, if I'm going to buy a 12 to 15k harley, I may as well go and buy 2 Japanese bikes or (for me) I would buy a honda Valkyrie. only 2k more, has a lot more power and I bet £10 I will never have a problem with it for the next 100 years.

    • @Dudsy907
      @Dudsy907 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Russell Munson another thing about the price, they only sell for more because they've brainwashed people into thinking they're worth more. just like ktm, they put a bit of orange paint on a bike and they suddenly want 1-2k more compared with other manufacturers. and as for the valkyries character compared to harleys... it's got character exploding from every angle: six cylinder engine, single sided swing arm and doesn't breakdown every five miles.

    • @Dudsy907
      @Dudsy907 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Russell Munson don't mistake me for a harley hater, but it annoys me when people act like something they're not. take 4-5k or more off most of they're bikes and I would definately buy one or two
