    The V-Rod Engine is one of the most bullet Proof, reliable engines in motorcycling today.

  • @theloniousMac
    @theloniousMac 8 ปีที่แล้ว +33

    I.There is a great deal of misinformation on the V-Rod in this video.
    1. It is not a "Porsche designed engine and Porsche designed bike." It is Harley designed from top to bottom, including the engine which is based on the Harley VR1000 race engine. Porsche contributed to the design of the engine though it was a collaborative effort.
    2. You state that the engine is not water cooled. It most definitely is. The "Revolution" engine is the most advanced engine Harley has built. Water Cooled V-Twin, overhead cam, sweet. The "Revolution" is also now being used on a new line of bikes called the Street series. The "Revolution-x" can be found on the Street 500 and the Street 750.
    3. It is not a chopper. It is no more a chopper than the Yamaha Vmax or the Triumph Rocket III or the Ducati Diavel. All of these bikes are similar heavy cruisers that offer sport bike like performance. Some people call them sport-cruisers. But chopper? Nope. Wrong description. Might as well call it a cafe racer.
    The V-rod and it's sister bike the Night Rod Special are not meant to be ridden as you did in this video, putter around town. They are high-performance bikes meant to eat up open road quickly. Perhaps Abu Dhabi is not the right environment for them, but don't blame the bike.
    The V-Rod is the most technically advanced bike Harley has ever built. Unfortunately because of what it is, it has been discontinued. Harley purists don't want technically advanced. They want the same old clunky, rattling Harley they love so deeply. At the same time, Harley did such a poor job of advertising the bike that people who might be interested, have never heard of it. I.e. people who want that Harley name, but want a modern motorcycle. Even many Harley riders have never heard of it. It's a shame. It is a wonderful motorcycle.
    I'm actually considering buying 2 before you can't get them anymore.
    This motorcycle was considered so revolutionary for Harley that there is a documentary on the beast. It can be found here on youtube: th-cam.com/video/GpsGwZWvMf0/w-d-xo.html
    You can find a proper review of the bike here: th-cam.com/video/bXMPTWZH6ME/w-d-xo.html

      very good points bro! I'm surprised some troll hasn't jumped in on the conversation to badmouth the Harley. I've ridden both V ROD models and I prefer there Night Rod which fits shorter riders better than the Muscle as the Muscle has a wider seat at the tank side (air breather/filter). I'm 5'7" so they Night Rod was a better fit. thanks for pointing out the facts for the viewers.

      theloniousMac Awesome comment. The V rod is the only Harley I am planning to purchase. I t just seems the most reliable and solid option for the countryside and the big highways.

    It is a cool bike
    It is water cooled btw
    But the heat that comes from the exaust it gets annoying especially on hot weather
    I own a Vrod myself
    I like it, but like any other bike it has its cons
    The worst one for me is the height of the thing
    It is so freaking low
    And it takes all the fun out from it when trying to enjoy some curves

    Great review, thanks. But you should definitely amend the "air cooled" comment. It's the only water cooled bike HD sells with serious racing technology built into the engine and the only HD I would personally consider buying for that reason.

  • @MarkusReese
    @MarkusReese 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Update for you intro, it was porsche designed engine, but not specifically by H-D. It was actually originated with Erik Buell from the original Buell motorcycles. However H-D decided it was too powerful for the buells and kept it for themself in a nutshell.
    Edit: Harley and build. HD build quality is extremely high. Especially on fit and finish. The "poor" part stems from the way old harleys worked which did result in "oil leaks" and most "problems" people have relate to aftermarket. Most notably "performance" mods that cause the engine to run a hell of a lot rougher and just shake and beat the bike apart. Stock for stock, not much beats a harley fit and finish.

  • @ComandanteJ
    @ComandanteJ 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can get a 2010 one for like 8-9k € here in Spain, wich is more reasonable, and given that the kind of people who buy these things usually take a lot of care with them, i'd say much of the second hand ones are almost as good as new... or better, because they're already tested hehe. There are two VRods in my neigbourhood (one of them is a night rod special) and i'm in love with them.

    • @MrBlompod
      @MrBlompod 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Easily done man, It is the only water cooled HD in the range, but its such a sweet ride hey....you described it beautifully when you said you have to ride the thing pilot it and that's what makes it so much fun to ride. Yeah lots of bikes handle a bit better maybe a bit quicker but not many, but none.... are a Vrod
      PS. the bars are a bit of a stretch but that's easily fixed with a Budman Riser no need to change cables or hoses they are awesome and make the bike so much more comfortable to ride :o)

    it's liquid cooled not air cooled, they just made it look air cooled. See that massive black thing hanging on the down tubes? That's the radiator. They went through a lot of issues trying to make it work right and caught a lot of flak for making a water cooled Harley. Look at your own picture Cager scontent-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/v/t1.0-9/11050230_818817381524438_4897052126332676204_n.jpg?oh=cdc8830359518c2366530a058c04faab&oe=55B668A0

    It would seem that you have the same problem with recording the sound of this bike as i have with my Varadero, the sound is great when you hear it! but when you listen to the recording the chains and belts are overruling the mighty twin sound which you only hear when you open it up, which is a pity as I love a twin sound

      White reflects heat. A black or dark color attracts & holds heat especially where this dude is. The - F-N, desert is a barren area of land where little precipitation occurs and consequently living conditions are hostile for plant and animal life. The lack of vegetation exposes the unprotected surface of the ground to the processes of denudation.

Unfortunately I didn't get the chance to ride a bike as I was with my family and we spent most of the time i Dubai where the traffic is crazy. I wonder what is next on your list to try out back in UAE. And seriously this bike can boil you when you stop in traffic jam. I found the Electra a bit nicer that way.

    The more fun Harley to ride, plenty of power, the engine is probably the best Harley engine ever built, the bike suppose give you 37 miles per gallon but come on you cant help it pushing the throttle, have a nice reaction, is a lot of fun, esthetics are awesome, probably in 20 more years going to still with cool looking, find a negative was difficult for me but the only thing is 5 speeds transmission, this thing ask for more gears.

    People like to rag on Harley quality cause they had a reputation for leaks and such back in the 80s. Stigmas die hard I guess. Also they have a very industrial look to them so people tend to have this "it looks old so it must be worn out" mindset when it comes to them

  • @MrSlowestD16
    @MrSlowestD16 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Cager, you sound like an amateur sitting on a water cooled bike saying you wish it was water cooled :-P All of the revolution motors are water cooled.
    As for mentioning it's not as crude as harleys are portrayed...yea, many "real" harley guys (useless fanboys) don't consider the vrod a real harley, somewhere between the water cooling, the porsche designed engine, the full balancing, and since harley went to EFI in the last 10-ish years, the "true harley" fanboys can barely keep their shit together. I love the v-rod, it really feels alive and sounds/feels great...
    One nice thing is that you talk about how torquey it is - but it's not! It's torquey compared to most bikes, but not other Harleys which make peak torque at like 3k RPM and are dead tired by the end of 5's - it's still a high revver, the last 3k RPM it behaves much like a sports bikes. Another reason why the 'true enthusiasts' hate it..
    What you were saying about the guy at the dealership test riding - yeah, Harley dealerships are different than any other dealership, most of 'em really try to make you family. The dealer network (or just the network in general) is one of the reasons people go Harley. You can get support anywhere you go.
    175 euros isn't terrible for a day rental. usually the big touring bikes for the day here are about 150 euros, cheaper side (ie. a sportster) is like 120 euros maybe. This would probably be on the more expensive end. So def. a bit high, but I don't think it's terrible.
    Even in Portugal it's a bit pricier than US, I'm guessing b/c of import taxes and what-not, US it's worth around 15000 euros.
    Yea, Harleys are expensive over-all, you pay a lot for the badge, but has a lot of fit & finish. It's one of those things you either hate it or you love it.
