I’m +1000km in on my 801 now and I love it. Traded in my 401 for it. The 801 really inspires active riding and feels a lot more premium than the 401 or the 790. The suspension and engine are great and the riding position is perfect for me.

Visually speaking it's definitely growing on me. Not as striking as the Vitpilen 701 but better looking than the Svartpilen 701. I wish the seat lined up better with the tank though, it just doesn't flow like the 701s do. The radiator is a bit of a miss too, as is the lackluster belly pan. Engine wise? I really wish they'd have gone with the 890 engine, I'd have been more tempted to go from my Vitpilen 701 to a Vitpilen 901 than the Svartpilen 801.
I'm happy it's getting good reviews though and I really hope it translates to people actually buying it this time. As far as living with the 701 is concerned, my time with mine was incredible. The vibes are honestly very minimal (mine was a 2018) and the complaints about it being uncomfortable were wildly exaggerated in my opinion. The clip-ons were nothing compared to your average sport bike and the seat was fine enough that in my many 100+ mile rides my biggest complaint was getting blown around on the highway, which is something my Street Triple RS and every naked I've ridden shares.
I hope it's a success and we get to see a Vitpilen (please be a 901!) soon.

Interesting. It definitely seems a bit ... chunkier and more relaxed than the 701. I don't know if I agree with the conclusion that 701 riders would like it if they just want something less vibey.
Like if I were to describe my Vit 701, I'd say it's nimble and tips over into a corner aggressively and is an absolute wheelie loving hooligan--while being a pain in the ass to leverage the clip-ons in the parking lot doing slow figure 8s. Whereas this seems a bit more geared towards the commuter and--lazy--by comparison--especially compared to the KTM bike it's based on, biased in a different direction compared to the 701's take on the 690.
Which isn't a bad thing, it's just a different bike and a different approach to a bike.
I'll keep my stupid hooligan 701.

My dealer told me they have had zero cam shaft issues and they sell/service a lot of KTMs and Husky’s. The mechanic said they used to have some issues with pistons but that has been sorted. Leaks are still quite common though.
With a 4 year warranty and an insurance that covers 80000km I don’t worry too much.

    • @lifepolicy

@@yohanyonsson That's one dealer. The point here is that too many people report that problem. I know bad news spreads like fire and people only report bad news. But if one or two people have that problem, it's a user's fault, because they did the oil change wrong, used wrong oil or whatever, or just had bad luck. But with that many people reporting it, you can't say that something that should last the engine's life fails that often.

Motobob, don’t respond to all these commenters who are trying to shame you for not mentioning supposed issues with this bike’s engine. These are not mechanics. These are not current KTM owners who have personally had this problem. These are not even “friend of a friend” stories. These are people who know nothing besides what they read online. And they probably can’t even change a taillight without taking their bike to the dealer. And no, I don’t have a KTM or even like the brand.

The more I look at the modern bikes, the easier it is to pick Royal Enfield. Royal Enfield appears to be the only company that knows how to make a beautiful motorcycle.
Sharp triangles, squares, wedges, hard edges, sharp angles, and stubby sawed off mufflers, are not beautiful. This has to be the worst era in motorcycling history, as most modern bikes in 2024 are nearly as ugly as the 1980's "Universal Japanese Motorcycles."
It's a mystery why the motorcycle companies don't actually ask consumers what looks good, before they send out a monstrosity. Who decided that the Transalp 750 or Tuareg 660 should have those horrendous front headlight assemblies?
Who is designing the bikes at Yamaha, are they even Human? Who designed the "X" headlight on the BMW GS1300, and why are they still employed? Why are the Africa Twin, the Ducati Desert X, and the Triumph Tiger, the only good looking large capacity ADV bikes?
