    I have a G3 mini with the 7th gen i5 as my proxmox host, runs a lot of my homelab vms and services. Truly a fun little machine, even if a little louder when you start to push the cpu. If i remember correctly too much tp isn't an issue if your mounting pressure is enough, the rest will squeeze out and as long as your thermal paste isn't conductive its just dirt you have to clean up some other day.
    And don't worry about being nervous, i remember building my first pc, i was scared as hell and tripple checked everything, with experience now you just go with the flow.

      Thx, hopefully I'll get the chance to redeem myself with the paste 😀

      Well it's clocked to 5.4. It only throttles in heavy benchmarks. No throttling in apps I use. I'm running Ubuntu and don't game but I do video editing and CAD. Typically I'm at 75C or less. The cooler is an Artic Liquid Freezer 420 with Noctua high static pressure 140mm fans (forget the model number). It also helps its in a really large Thermaltake case. Day to day use it's very quiet as I have my fans set very low below 50C. If I turn it down 0.1ghz it never throttles no matter what I do with it. At idle its 1-2C above ambient. Of course there the CPU is only pulling like 5-8 watts.
      My point was the 12900k is a heat monster but I can keep it reasonable with just a little paste.
      Now I DO one thing differently than most. I put down the pea sized drop but then I spread it out evenly on the CPU.

    Looks like yours came from Lehigh, Utah too. Mine was packed the exact same way.

    I'm thinking about buying a HP EliteDesk 800 G3 Mini or the SFF variant myself. And while I'm really not much of a hardware-guy, I though that was quite a lot of thermal paste.

      My art projects in school were not much better. Watching other channels I see the gamut of different ways folks put it on. Just trying to find the "right" way.

    Hi. I have a hp elitedesk 800 g3 mini 65w and I have a problem that when I want to turn it on it throws 3 sounds in red and followed by 4 sounds in white. They sent me an original 65w HP charger and it said it came with a 90w one. Is that why it doesn't turn on completely?

    • @handmedowntech
      @handmedowntech  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      If you watch my video on 35w vs 65w and go to 3:10 you'll hear the tell tale beeps that say you need the 90w power supply. Hopefully they can send you the correct one. Make sure it is 19.5v and 4.62a and 90w.

    I wonder if the M.2 2230 SSD gets very hot, given the small size...

    • @handmedowntech
      @handmedowntech  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good question. I took my G3 35w and ran the crystal disk benchmarks against a 2280 and 2230 NVME drive. The 2230 was around 8 degrees Celsius warmer. But nothing too concerning.

    what kind of wlan m2 are you using for your HP EliteDesk 800 G3 DM 35W? i have the same device and I can't find online the best match for the wlan m2 port. 😢😢

      @handmedowntech  หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you're looking for a way to use an NVME with the wlan port check out my video on the A+E adapter. If you're looking for a way to add a second network port via the wlan port keep watch for an upcoming video where I show one for the G3.

    Is it necessary to install a driver?

    • @handmedowntech
      @handmedowntech  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No - the 2230 NVME will work just like a 2280.

    Too much Thermal paste . only need a pea size in the middle or if you think that is not enough .... then a dime size which is too much . Also ... you didnt clean that heatsink. In reality the amount wont matter as the excess will squeeze out the sides when the heat sink is tighten fully down :D

    • @handmedowntech
      @handmedowntech  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Shoot - I normally clean the heatsink but I know I was pretty nervous at that point. Now for the paste - do you put on the pea/dime sized glob and then spread it or let the squash of the heatsink do the work?

    • @chriss377
      @chriss377 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Just put it on and install the heatsink. I'm running an overclocked 12900k with a 420 AiO cooler pulling over 300 watts of heat thru a pea sized dap of thermal grizzly paste.
