      The one I bought didn’t have a gpu so I bought a 1650 4GB.
      I run csgo at ~300 fps. Although the gpu struggles with heat, under full load it likes to sit at 85C which from what I understand is throttled. I’m currently trying to increase case airflow to fix that

    Bet you've already answered this somewhere but here is where i am in a pickle. I have a G3 800 SFF currently running without a GPU. I checked the specs on the GTX1650 LP and on a stock system that doesn't go with the specs. First, the PCIe slot is limited to only 35W supply to the graphics card while the GTX 1650 pulls a whopping 75W at max draw. Second - Now somehow even if you end up installing and getting it to work and definitely not at full potential of the GPU, youre still gonna need to upgrade your power supply so it can handle the load of the GPU at even 75% of the full power. And i am talking about the SFF in the video. Same problem with the 1050ti. The only cards that go in safe limits are the GT1030 and the GT 730 unless you get another PSU which supports higher Wattage output (you might need to swap out the case too) and then run a full sized card instead which draws power directly from the PSU instead of relying on the power from the PCIe slot.

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  ปีที่แล้ว

      Upgrading the power supply will not increase the power that the PCIe slot can deliver. Also for cards that do have an external power connector, they count on drawing up to 75W from the PCIe card as far as I know.
      I do see that it is documented to have a maximum of 35W supported for the PCIe slot but as this one was doing fine with the 1050Ti, I would expect a 1650 to work fine as well. Wouldn't be the first time that I try this with success. 180W in total should be fine for GPU, CPU and the rest of the components like mobo/RAM and SSD.

    • @omerback007
      @omerback007 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jensdbe I really want to try the 1050ti or the 1650 on it like you installed but its too much of a risk interms of me buying and it not working at a later point in time.. better be safe side and run a 1030.. I have always been unlucky in that regards so I better go with something thats tested and proven

    Hello... What a great video! It's very instructive. But, i'm wondering, would it possible to replace the stock heatsink with either Cryorig C7 or Noctua L9i? Both have a backplate that must be installed on the back side of the motherboard..

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think that the only option for such heatsink would be to remove or to bend down the lifted mounts on the bottom of the case. As you can see at th-cam.com/video/n1ETa3mJ85I/w-d-xo.html These would prevent you from mounting that backplate or the board would end up too high. Keep in mind as well that the case is limited in height so you might want to check if your heatsink+fan would fit in the limited space.

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The EliteDesk 800 G3 has only a 180W power supply. The most consuming graphical card it comes with from the factory is a GT730, which takes around 40W. A 1050 Ti takes around 75W so that should be within the safety margin.
      A 1070 on the other hand easily does the double (~150W) so that's really too much for that PSU. You would also miss the 6/8 pin connector that such GPU needs.
      Upgrading the PSU won't be an easy task as well I'm afraid.

    Windows 11
    Samsung 860 EVO NAND-SSD. Optical disc drive. Built in 1Gbps ethernet port. No wireless card but Wi-Fi dongle. Integrated graphics
    There are 2 free RAM slots and the motherboard supports 64GB RAM
    My question is would upgrading the RAM make it better eg.. 32 RAM 3200 mhz with like a crucial 32gb secondhand??
    And also
    Would putting in a dedicated graphics card like a Msi gt 1030 secondhand help it too??
    Trying to understand how it can be improved, I don’t know if it would cope with music software like ableton and gaming well or not, please could you help me understand if these ideas to make it better would be a good idea or not? If it would work? And if it would be capable for these things?

    Hello,,as you mentioned, it will not be easy to replace its psu,, can you do a video on how can we change the power supply with a standard one, without changing the motherboard?

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  ปีที่แล้ว

      In the standard case, you need a specific HP PSU as a standard form factor does not physically fit. In another case, it should work to use another PSU but you would need a convertor from the standard ATX to the HP-proprietary connector.
      All in all, if you plan these kind of things, it might be more interesting to sell the whole PC and buy another in the tower version (or a custom PC)

    I’m interested in adding an extra SSD drive or two. The connector with multiple plugs doesn’t have SATA connectors. Do I need to buy an adaptor? To connect an extra SATA SSD? Thank you for the video!

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To each drive you will need power and data. Power comes from the black connector on the motherboard (with red/yellow/black wires), data needs to be connected to the blue SATA ports on the motherboard. If you don't have enough power connectors, you can easily split that. For additional SATA ports, you can install an extra controller in one of the PCIe slots.

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This was the standard power supply as far as I know. It is 180W and a 1050Ti would require around 75W. This leaves enough for the rest of the components.

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is a tough one to answer. Depending on the game and resolution you are playing ok, if you are tight with the 16GB of memory, then increasing that will boost performance. On the other hand if you are not running out, a better CPU is a better choice. I'd say go for the i7 8700, monitor memory consumption and upgrade if needed. It's generally easier to upgrade the memory in comparison with the CPU as that has to be replaced.

    Can you use this EliteDesk model to run VMs, and do out-of-band management? What upgrades do I need to make for these to work? Or which micro server is ideal for these capabilities?

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The specs allow it to run a bunch of VMs, depending a bit on your needs and how resource-hungry they will be. Out-of-band management is not so easy. You could install a second network card but if the host-OS is down, you would still not be able to reach it. The approach I have for a regular PC which I used as a NAS is to have it connected to a smartplug (which I can remotely enable/disable) and set the BIOS to always boot after power loss. Thay way, in case the machine is locked up, I can at least remotely reboot it :)
