You're a small TH-camr with a small number of subscribers-super underrated! I hope you make it big, Todd!
Appreciate it! Subscribed to your channel! 👍
@@ToddTinkersWithTech Thanks! I'll watch your channel and try to give some feedback based on my knowledge! ^^
Great video. Very helpful and instructive.
Thanks! Yeah the limiting factor is the lack of a GPU; I wish I would have been able to add the MXM card!
Thank you so much! Very helpful!
I have that same model of PC., with an mSata drive installed as the boot drive and I have a mechanical HD., fitted in the caddy for storage, which means that I'm able to keep the DVD., drive installed.
I have heard that those discreet graphics cards are not much better than the integrated graphics, however, I have not tried one, it would be best to obtain a passive heat sink as that is what was fitted originally.
I have Linux Mint Mate installed and currently the computer works well.
Thanks for the tips! Yeah, I gave up on the graphics card... The mSata on the motherboard is a good option as well. Using mine for Batocera and it runs great with the i7 in it!
@@ToddTinkersWithTech Hello from the UK., I'm not a gamer so I had to use an internet search to find out what Batocera is, I do know that there are many free games in the Linux Mint repository, there is also an i7 installed in my computer, but it's an i7-4790S 3.20GHz +16 gig of ram..
PS., I have subscribed.
me sirvio mucho, gracias
Thanx for the video..
Thanks, I appreciate it Paul!
for power you could run it off USB
Yeah, unfortunately it wouldn't post with the mxm card in at all, but yeah, good idea, definitely could tap into USB power to run an extra fan! 👍
Looks great. What are u going to use it for? They are great for batocera emulation. Can eventually fit into a mini arcade machine
Yep, exactly what I did with it - Batocera + Kodi!
@ToddTinkersWithTech Nice. You should do an updated video showing how u used it to get more views. Lots of people interested in that stuff.
Did you try the updated driver from Hp for onboard graphics? You'd have update, befooooore installing the card..
Don't think I did; just assumed that Windows would auto load the driver. Thanks, I'll see if I can find that driver!
But, regardless of driver - it wouldn't post at all, with the card installed...
@@ToddTinkersWithTech There's a driver for the Chipset and Graphics, thats needed before you try posting with the card..
And, after installing the card, try connecting the monitor to one of the DisplayPort connectors. The graphics gets routed there, not the VGA
what are the parts you bought for the upgrade?
SDD Hard Drive Caddy Adaptor (link in the description), i7 4771 processor, 230w power supply, and the Quadro M1000m MXM graphics card that didn't work
I live in a third world country where these are so expensive
Yes, we are lucky here in the US. Look for them at industrial auctions or a local used marketplace maybe?
it's not just that they're more expensive than in other countries, it's also the fact that people make like $1000 a year if they're lucky
