I made a shredder that looks like a brain because it kind of made sense anatomically? I don't know. I should brainstorm some good reasons for building it.

this video has really all the stages of a maker doing a project, the "this is the best idea ever" stage, the "holy shit this is hard" stage, the "FUUUUUUUUCK WHY THIS SHIT DOESN'T WORK" stage. It's beautiful
I think it's beautiful because of the poetry of a brain shredding the written word. I also like the foul language, the pony tail-lizard tail thing. Finally that's awesome it's her brain; a different, more symmetrical one wouldn't be as cool.

ive worked with 5 different shredders. its ultra fine paper-residue/ dust
This video had everything I didn't know I needed: strange intersections between sculpture and boring office appliance, welding, a Tesla ute (had to go google that when I saw it), MRIs turned into art, cursing, ASMR cursing... it was amazing.

Tbh I expected paper to have gotten into the motor somehow... Like the second she said yeah I'll put the motor below it I had a major fear of her just shredding paper intro it, clogging up the system and breaking it.

We makers tend to keep at minimum 1 fire extinguisher in our work areas for a reason.
tbf, i think a lot of people have that moment when first becoming familiar with paper shredders.
at least... i did, anyway. "WHY IS THERE SMOKE SMOKE IS BAD" to "i think it's just paper dust on the heat of the electrics?"
my favorite part was at 4:45 where she says "do it properly" then immediately cuts to her not doing it properly, I felt that on a high level
This happened to me in MSE. 4 holes I'd tapped already were too close together in the pick-and-place arm's baseplate, so I redrilled the crosslinks to fit instead XD
My prof was not amused, but he let us off scot-free anyways since he probably lowkey thought it was a suitable solution for the principle of "good enough".
I definitely thought "uhhhh, not sure holding while cutting is doing it properly....'
That seems to me more like doing it properly than just trying to shove the thing through.

Really, really had a hard time conceptualizing where you were going during most of the video, it took until final assembly for me to see the genius of the combining function with art into such a unique piece. Pretty impressive brain 🧠 inside of a head that really rocked the hat. Please keep up the great content!

My favorite thing is that you show the whole process, especially the mistakes! Oddly enough, showing when you hit barriers or have to redo something is SO EMPOWERING! You and stuffmadehere are my favorite makers on TH-cam for that reason. You're awesome, Simone 😊
Hat looks great. Glad to see you're back after surgery. Not a big social media person, but I used to watch your videos quite often and you've inspired my daughters to get more engaged with engineering. I think you also helped encourage them to get more engaged with my hobby of robot fighting. I hope they have you back as a guest of BattleBots again sometime.

Angle grinders stop running when you let go of the trigger. Paper shredders don't stop until they don't have anything more to shred, or they jam. Much scarier.

That was so nostalgic for me. At my first job I bought an magnetic stirrer with a hotplate and it stank. Me: "It doesn't stink burnt, it is just the smell of new plastic". It was not but it also didn't burn so I was kinda save.

When my grandson was a toddler he had one of those bouncy chairs that had all the toys on it. We called it his office because he was always so busy when he was in it. He’s 21 now, fun memories!
Excellent work! It's so great to see how your skills and confidence have evolved in just a few years. I think it helps tell the most important story: nobody is born good at building things. For every crazy project you see, someone has spent years failing and learning to get to that point. No project "just works". It's all about trying, learning, and growing.

I feel the smoke is very apropos of the aftereffects of major brain surgery. Not only had it shredded so many ideas, but it actively smoked during the process.

I really appreciate her thought process. She went from making shitty robots to "doing it properly" because she takes time to make sure what she's about to do really is the right step (even if in this one case cutting corners was the right step lol) I suffer from the same problem so I look up to her overcoming.

Texan42 I posted this elsewhere but apparently I just can’t help myself. As an owner of both a pony, a lizard (with a regrown tail) and a ponytail, I am going to be super pedantic and point out that it super depends on what part you cut off. A bobbed tail on a horse never grows back.
I'm surprised something didn't go drastically wrong, since about a quarter of the paper path post-shred is blocked by the motor.
I was really worried about that and thought it might be the source of the smoke at the end of the video.

that’s why she was shredding only half the breadth of paper, so ideally to use this, you’d have to fold the paper in half

Now this is a cool off-road duo. Barry writes, "Hey TFL and TFL Fans, Love the recent videos featuring the Land Rover and the Tesla issues. I wanted to show two of my trucks. One is a 1975 Land Rover Series 3, and the other is a 2019 Suzuki Jimny. Both vehicles are perfect for my current location of Vientiane, Laos. Our road infrastructure makes traveling over 50mph dangerous. Both trucks suck at highway speeds. The short wheelbase makes parking and navigating narrow streets a breeze. The best part of the Land Rover is the police never stop me because they think I'm a soldier or that I'm poor.
I can't wait until the new Bronco comes out. It's like the Series 3 and the Jimny had a child. Too bad the 2.7L doesn't come in manual.

You probably don't mount motors directly in the path of fine flammable materials (like shredded paper) though.
This is a shop fire waiting to happen... especially as loads of paper pile up and the motor clogs up.
