I've been putting off finishing a project because I am scared of using a particular tool on my own. To be honest, even as a little home DIY'er- not really having used any big workshop tools and mostly just various sizes of hand-held ones: having that fear is a good thing because it shows you respect the tool and what it can do- especially if it's mishandled! Hopefully you've finished that project and have a little more confidence with the showstopping tool! :3

Simone, I just want you to know, that you are my comfort channel. When I’m depressed, can’t focus, even when I’m perfectly fine, I will just binge watch the videos on your channel and no matter what I will feel so much better and calmer. This specific video I gotta say is my favorite, you keep going despite your frustrations and the product is so cool. Love your content man, don’t stop making it :)
the under table surface moving up and down is so cool! I could see so many applications beyond puzzles for this table, obviously like long winded games of monopoly or risk, or DND but also like if you’re working on planning out a project or painting something, but suddenly it’s lunch time? Boom surface to eat at without having to clean up, I love it
I could totally see this as a sellable item. The form and function of this item is amazing and beautiful. Adding a protective finish would make it even more so.
I was thinking the same thing. There would definitely need to be optimization to the building process but as someone who loves puzzles the worst thing has always been how much space they take up. This is an awesome solution to that
At least one obvious cost saving would be to get rid of the chain and the crank for raising and lowering the puzzle table. Just have a lever that connects to a rod.
"Having some friends over..." Oh that's cool, I'm sure they'll think it's a neat table. *Evan and Katelyn walk in* The perfect audience for a handmade table has arrived
As soon as she said that Evan and Katelyn were coming to visit I thought to myself: "Wait... No way she's talking about *THOSE* Evan and Katelyn!" so glad to be proven wrong, I love their channel so much (probobly why the algoritm recomended this video to me lol)
@@Adskdnweotland Indeed! I think you can see part of it in 14:30 (it's the whit semicircles), but it came a bit like a surprise so it could have been shown a bit more.
I don't know if anyone else gets this out of your videos, Simone, but like every 1 out of 4 makes me cry tears of joy. I think it's the "success story" after you showing, with so much wit and heart, every frustration and fear you have along the way. It's really fucking cathartic. You describing the joy of learning a new tool and the new endless possibilities it brings, aah, that's the stuff!! Thank you, I admire you quite a lot
I'm barely a quarter of the way thru but I had to pause to give credit to that 3D printed bathtub, well worth it for the gag! Simone you are a wonderful gift to this world
Extreamly well desiged table! One thing, to reduce the sweat and reduce the wear and teat, you can reduce the friction by adding parafine (rub a candle stick) in the slots. It is an old way to prevent drawers to get stuck. It works well on zippers too.
My dad and I did this when we made a sliding spice rack for my mom. Only problem was that the only candles we could find (that my mom wouldn't eat us alive for using) were blue and white striped birthday candles, so the inside of the slide mechanism looked like a kid had drawn on it in blue crayon and then tried to clean it up, but did a bad job.
Omg Simone, I'm so proud of you. I know that might not mean much coming from a stranger, but seeing the things your mind comes up with and how you roll with the punches is inspiring. Also I remember when my husband was learning how to use a lathe, and I suddenly have a new appreciation for his work there.
Holy crap are lathes scary. Most dangerous tool I'll probably ever use. Props to Simone for taking the time to learn how to do it right and props to her coach for doing that safety check first thing! No jewelry, loose hair, or bully clothing!
@@randxalthor I loved the hand check. Was awesome to see. So right about the danger. When she asked “is this safe” I waited to hear “ No, but everything is operating correctly so far. “
The table is great but her self awareness at the beginning is so adorkable. How many times have I thought “I know this is a bad idea and there are better ways to do it, but I’m going to do it anyway”.
I you felt like a wizard then it wouldn't literally be magic. If you are a wizard, then it's literally magic. You need to literally study the meaning of literally.
I totally wasn't ready for Evan and Katelyn to be the friends you invited over for dinner. This is the most satisfying secret crossover I've seen in years.
You know as an artist this would be really useful! I usually end up taking up the whole table and can't relocate until I'm done (which may be a few days) this would be an awesome way to keep the table functional without having to put my supplies away!
Me, too! I love this. And this video in particular has so many moments that relate to Jenna Marbles and Unus Annus. “This fight is one…” and “I am not going to give up yet bc I am a woman on a mission to slightly improve her jigsaw puzzle experience…” are great fragments of TH-cam as a whole
Some people throw watermelons at the ground from a high place. Others are extremely loud and oversaturate their videos to blistering colors. And then there’s special gems like Simone. I’ve made about 200 videos in my life of varying genres, but this is one of the perfect styles of video for me to consume endlessly
This is so timely. We just had some holidays and when my newish sons-in-law were asking how we would manage with the puzzle I showed them what we did growing up - put a tablecloth over it and served the meal. I can't tell you how many times as a kid my water glass was at a slight angle when part of it was sitting on a puzzle piece!!! Love this concept!
I can't recall the last time I smiled in such a genuine way as I did when the table was finished and you showed it to your friends. That was the most wholesome result I have seen in a long while. So proud of you, as always
I bet they geeked out all night about how Simone made the table, because Evan and Katelyn are also massive maker nerds. They usually do resin stuff, but I could totally see something like this being right up their alley!
I got soooo excited when you said Evan and Katelyn and I was thinking “must be a coincidence” I’m new to your channel. Hope we get to see more cross overs and maybe you on their channel!
It has been wonderful watching your growth as a maker through this channel. I've been watching since Wake Up Machine. Your building chops are insanely good and seeing the challenges you've faced over these years laid out so vulnerably is a big deal for a lot of us. Thank you for doing what you do.
It's pretty crazy to look back at! I've been thinking I should revisit some of my old projects and rebuild them to see how differently I would solve the problems now.
I am so impressed! You did ALL THE THINGS! I'm always in awe of people that can take an idea, map it out, and make it happen. I'm absolutely horrible at that. I'm totally jealous; I want this table!

Nothing I have ever seen in my life has been more satisfying than watching the secondary surface raise all the way up in this video. The reveal was perfect. And can we TALK about the KNURLING ON THOSE HANDLES 😍😍😍😍😍🤌🏻
Simone, thank you i'm an industrial design student, and i'm constantly having breakdowns over needing more time and hating tight deadlines, and seeing you, lying there on the floor, gave me hope (even though it's a sad image, i'd rather take it as a bittersweet one) these are things i know: struggling and despair part of the craft, having to take more time than planned is part of the craft but at the same time, happiness/joy are part of the craft, so are achievement and pride thank you because you've reminded me that i wont be a student forever and that projects take a toll on designers, and it may be exhausting but the reward is greater than any suffering along the way
I would love to have that table for myself. It looks really useful and just sleek with a bouns of being able to crank some handles on it. Also, omg I love supportive friends E&K. You guys are the best trio.
I was literally just watching Evan and Katelyn make a table and this is so funny! I've literally never seen your channel before but it's amazing. Just subscribed
My mom used to do jigsaw puzzles often but now shes playing the lame puzzle apps on her tablet. You on the other hand built the coolest table I ever seen and still get to keep the original feeling of (big) jigsaw puzzles. "Claping hands"
I was so pleasantly surprised when you said you were having Evan and Katelyn over! Three of my favorite makers in the same room just hanging out and being friends 😊
I love that I came across your channel and that I can watch a woman being technical and working on engineering stuff like this! Also, the table is soo beautiful, I would definitely buy it if it were for sale! Much love
Hey Simone, considering you have so many comments I don't know if you will ever read this, but I just wanted to tell you how grateful I am that you make and create and project in the exact way that you do. I have struggled with mental health issues for so many years that it has made it impossible for me to be able to manifest the kind of maker life that i've always wanted and thought i would someday have, but being able to watch you go through your processes and learn with you and see your creations..it's just such a blessing to me. It fulfills a significant need in my life that I have not been able to fulfill for myself yet. So thank you. It means more than you know. x
This is literally my dream table. I drew up a design very similar to this like 4 years ago, but ended up scrapping it because I'm a coward. I'm glad someone else had the courage to do this, as it turned out better than I could have imagined.
Simone, the one upgrade I'd recommend for your new table is to add nylon slider strips in the slots on the side walls. That way your rolling top slides easier, so it's a lot less work to open and close. This was excellent work, and a project I could do! (Lathe work aside since I don't have one.) I'd love to see how you managed the raise/lower function on the inner tabletop.
As somebody who enjoys lathe work and has a basic understanding, it's really cool to see somebody more... seasoned, than myself figuring and getting over their fear of it is really cool. Now I wanna buy one, gonna sell my arm for it.
I'm not a maker, I don't have much of a draw toward woodwork or any other tradecraft, but I love watching this channel because I see someone who loves what they do and it makes me happy, also I learn things too ^_^ thanks for sharing this with me/us. When I'm feeling low I like to watch your channel, makes me smile.
That is seriously rad! I love the mid centruy scandinavian vibes from the design. and having a fear of table saws and lathes is incredibly healthy. Kickback is terrifying and spinny things are always dangerous.
Maybe it's just me, but when the trumpet-sounds from the montage started, all I could think of was Pippi Longstocking trumpet-ting her Christmas-song, in the Christmas episode. There's something utterly Swedish about (certain/similar) trumpet-songs like that. I mean, I don't think I'd associate trumpets with Italy or something, trumpets belong to sweden.
Aside from the incredible dedication and the amazing table I knew I needed but had no idea how to execute, can we back track a little bit? At about the 14:50 mark, she says, "And by force, I mean they're too nice to say no.... Which still doesn't count as consent, kids." I believe those words should be written down for the world to see. PS. It's kinda awesome seeing you and Evan and Katelyn being friends. Very wholesome.
I will vouch for that. At 70 yo I have e.g. a kitchen cutlery drawer waxed (bottom edges AND sides) when I moved in, in 1975, every couple of years after that, then once a decade after that, still not worn out, and gliding like silk.
Never stop using the Westerlies' "Dover" for your project final assembly music like you have been lately in most of your videos (15:03). It's seriously perfect!
Great show. And I think that you, Simone, are natural in presenting yourself - you modelled persistence in such a friendly and funny way. Congratulations.
I LOVE that you're friends with Evan and Katelyn!! Some of my favorite builders in one room :') And this is absolutely my dream puzzle table, I am incredibly jealous
I honestly like the idea of the desk with the flip up lid best. It would ensure there's no lip to work over, and you can put stickers and other decorations under the lid for when you open it up.
As someone who has made functional moving things out of wood before, I felt your pain in my heart. This idea for puzzles/board games is absolutely beautiful though.
Pro tip- I use a hacksaw to cut off on manual lathe occasionally myself. It's a really good idea if you do that to put a piece of wood underneath of the chuck on the bed of the lathe so that when you cut through you don't accidentally drop down and nick the bed. I've considered actually getting one of those micro portabands and making a dedicated swing down cut off tool attached to the lathe for this purpose just because it could do the job so quickly. The table design is phenomenal I love it!
You are an inspiration. I love your videos. I hope I can teach my daughter to have as much perseverance, resolve, and ingenuity as you have. Thank you for all you do.

I love that Simone has gone from making silly, janky robots to the most incredible and beautiful functional art. Keep doing what you love Simone!
In their own way, those janky robots were art, too. xD Like the slap-you-awake one! That was poetry in motion. ^_^
I'm quite fond of the pat-on-the-back.
It's a classic.
Still have bets on the brain tumor being the cause of the janky robots.
@@Karuiko I dunno...
I believe we all have a janky robot stage in our past.

"Having some friends over..."
Oh that's cool, I'm sure they'll think it's a neat table.
*Evan and Katelyn walk in*
The perfect audience for a handmade table has arrived
yep
👍
i fr did NOT expect them but omg
I was hyped the second she said "Evan and Katelyn" ngl
As soon as she said that Evan and Katelyn were coming to visit I thought to myself:
"Wait... No way she's talking about *THOSE* Evan and Katelyn!"
so glad to be proven wrong, I love their channel so much
(probobly why the algoritm recomended this video to me lol)
The jokes. The small bathtub. Oh how much I love this channel.
❤️
I clicked Like when I saw the tiny bathtub.
0:22 You missed her subliminal joke of eating Wood Shavings!
Trogdor the Burnishator!
Watch out for the sick burnishes!
3:49 I read this comment just as I got to this point...lol 😂 I love that it's an actual replica of her bathtub...too much! I love the dedication 😍
"Is it okay that I feel like a fcking wizard?" Yes. Yes it is.
If you have a lathe and you don't feel like fckn wizard, do you even truly have a lathe? XD
Only if you make gremlin noises when you are done your project.
ohh i though she said lizard lmao
The lifting of the "undertable" (or whatever you may call it) is mind-blowing! Wow!
Agreed I want to see the mechanism
@@Adskdnweotland Indeed! I think you can see part of it in 14:30 (it's the whit semicircles), but it came a bit like a surprise so it could have been shown a bit more.
So simple and I love it.
That was an amazing reveal.
Also, a sliding extension on the handles would be an aid if the paraffin is not sufficient.
It does mean a lot! ❤️
Holy cow! That is so freaking cool! I have no idea how the puzzle table raises up but that’s brilliant!
Linked cams lift/lower the puzzle table.
Cams David, cams! Natures Elevator! The egg of an engine! The... okay, I'm out.
Cams baby! A ramp in polar coordinates
It’s just magic. Simple.
Yea she didnt show that part.
"Is it ok to feel like a Wizard?"
Yes, it's actually mandatory. It's literally magic.
Well - EINSTEIN Was a Genius - never completed yr 12 High-school . Was 1% amazing insight. 99%blood sweat & tears🤓
Oh that makes more sense. I heard lizard.
@@aesbj9228 lizard wizards equals lathe combo mastery
I you felt like a wizard then it wouldn't literally be magic. If you are a wizard, then it's literally magic. You need to literally study the meaning of literally.
As an avid crafter who's always lacking table space, I would absolutely love this!
I totally wasn't ready for Evan and Katelyn to be the friends you invited over for dinner.
This is the most satisfying secret crossover I've seen in years.
Table: EPIC
Jokes: EPIC
Editing: EPIC
Simone and her MYOG: E.P.I.C.
I love that you show your process and don't just show the "tada" reveal. The struggle makes the end result all the more satisfying. Thank you
You know as an artist this would be really useful! I usually end up taking up the whole table and can't relocate until I'm done (which may be a few days) this would be an awesome way to keep the table functional without having to put my supplies away!
I think I've genuinely found a new favourite channel. The creator, the content, and even the background music just work. Glad I found your channel
The background music is often by the westerlies and it’s great, my favourite is ‘Dover’ which she uses a lot
Simone's friends being legit hyped for her table is so lovely
That's Evan and Katelyn! They have their own "maker" channel and you should check it out! 🥰
Yes! I'd love to have friends like these 😁
their youtube channel is awesome!
I bet they geeked out all night about how Simone made the table, because Evan and Katelyn are also massive maker nerds. They usually do resin stuff, but I could totally see something like this being right up their alley!
Omg, as a fellow maker (no where near as badass as Simone) and a major puzzle addict, I legit fangirled at the reveal of this table too!! 🥹
I got soooo excited when you said Evan and Katelyn and I was thinking “must be a coincidence” I’m new to your channel. Hope we get to see more cross overs and maybe you on their channel!
Evan and Katelyn are always a win!
10:57 is an insanely clean edit, and I appreciate the tiny bathroom floor to match the tiny bathtub probably more than I should.
If ya talking bout the banging and movement lining up wit the music, then hell yes! Thank you for pointing it out
I was just about to comment about this, fantastic editing.
Thought I was alone about the bath floor
I am so impressed! You did ALL THE THINGS! I'm always in awe of people that can take an idea, map it out, and make it happen. I'm absolutely horrible at that. I'm totally jealous; I want this table!
Kiwico is like,, the *one* sponsored ad I will watch the whole way through every time. Mad respect, loved those boxes
Also this table is *hekkin

I reckon you'd do well selling plans for this, or pairing up with someone to produce a kit with the routed parts. Really elegant design.
there is 200 percent a market for this.
Im a tabletop gamer and, while i would need a larger size, this would be great for me.
Laser in custom logo/artwork and you've got a better product than can be store bought.
Just sayin, I would buy the heck out of this.
I’d buy it!
this is a manufacturing nightmare no company will support a product like this
Nothing I have ever seen in my life has been more satisfying than watching the secondary surface raise all the way up in this video. The reveal was perfect.
And can we TALK about the KNURLING ON THOSE HANDLES 😍😍😍😍😍🤌🏻
Simone, thank you
i'm an industrial design student, and i'm constantly having breakdowns over needing more time and hating tight deadlines, and seeing you, lying there on the floor, gave me hope (even though it's a sad image, i'd rather take it as a bittersweet one)
these are things i know:
struggling and despair part of the craft, having to take more time than planned is part of the craft
but at the same time, happiness/joy are part of the craft, so are achievement and pride
thank you because you've reminded me that i wont be a student forever and that projects take a toll on designers, and it may be exhausting but the reward is greater than any suffering along the way
This is the best project I've ever seen. This started off me going "I can do that", very quickly went back on that! Awesome work
Definitely need to see more Simone + Evan and Katelyn content! Love watching all of you build, create, and make! You guys inspire me!
I love that 2 of my fav TH-camr who makes shenanigans are also friends.
Very much the same. I actually loved the thumb bathtub. ^_^()
strongly suggest binge watching her vids, theyre absolutely amazing
We basically have the opposite experience here, I've been watching Simone for years now but just discovered Evan and Katelyn the other day.
Finally someone who likes e&k to
My mom used to do jigsaw puzzles often but now shes playing the lame puzzle apps on her tablet. You on the other hand built the coolest table I ever seen and still get to keep the original feeling of (big) jigsaw puzzles. "Claping hands"
The overwhelming joy when she got to making her first Lathe Thing™ is so wholesome and delightful
10:56 - I must have played that back 10 times, super satisfying how that was synced up to the rhythm of the backing track

New . Hit👌🏿✌️, ✌️Fresh
Hey, it's never too late to try creating something.
I love how excited you are as you create things, and you always seem surprised by your own creations. it's absolutely adorkable.
Cool Pic!
Um... that was amazing.
I would just spend all day moving the table
Simone, the one upgrade I'd recommend for your new table is to add nylon slider strips in the slots on the side walls. That way your rolling top slides easier, so it's a lot less work to open and close.
This was excellent work, and a project I could do! (Lathe work aside since I don't have one.) I'd love to see how you managed the raise/lower function on the inner tabletop.
A little paraffin wax on the tenons would go a long way to solving that problem.
@@stevekreitler9349 I was about to comment the same. Paraffin wax is the ultimate lube for moving wooden parts.
The scope creep that occurs when you enter MYOG land is something I can definitely relate to 😂
As somebody who enjoys lathe work and has a basic understanding, it's really cool to see somebody more... seasoned, than myself figuring and getting over their fear of it is really cool.
Now I wanna buy one, gonna sell my arm for it.
I love how open you are about your doubts when working on projects, it always great to see you overcome them!
Everyone: I need handles so I'll buy some.
Simone: I need handles so I'll buy a lathe and learn how to lathe and stick the landing first time
Umm... so... I have a lathe now
Finding out Simone is friends with Evan and Katelyn gave me the joy in life I didn't know I needed

I'm not a maker, I don't have much of a draw toward woodwork or any other tradecraft, but I love watching this channel because I see someone who loves what they do and it makes me happy, also I learn things too ^_^ thanks for sharing this with me/us. When I'm feeling low I like to watch your channel, makes me smile.
not only is it super functional, it’s gorgeous! i love the way the puzzle tabletop meets the two ends of the rolling top.
The pure excitement when Evan and Katlyn showed up? My three favorite chaos TH-camrs are all in one spot.
I think you are just the cookest, smartest person ever. Thank you for making these videos showing us your amazing inventions and skills.
Fantastic work Simone! Bonus Evan & Katelyn too! =D
Candlewax(stearin) is often used to make wood surfaces glide more smoothly like for drawers, just a tip.
Or soap if you wanna MacGyver it
I have heard about that. Or beeswax? Old timers used that I think for making drawer surfaces glide.
Zippers, too!
I will vouch for that. At 70 yo I have e.g. a kitchen cutlery drawer waxed (bottom edges AND sides) when I moved in, in 1975, every couple of years after that, then once a decade after that, still not worn out, and gliding like silk.
Woodworker here, 3 parts linseed oil to 1 part molten beeswax. Leave it to set. Fantastic to help drawers slide 👍
Surprise guest appearance by two of my other favorite maker TH-camrs was such a pleasant surprise. That was the best crossover!
Never stop using the Westerlies' "Dover" for your project final assembly music like you have been lately in most of your videos (15:03). It's seriously perfect!
^^^^ THIS!!! Its perfectly majestic and serene
Glad to see someone else here notice. Westerlies are great.
Thanks, I really like this music but I couldn't find what it was

I have been working as a carpenter for about 20 years and I'm so insanely impressed with you and your table. 😍 Just wow and 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
When watching stuff like this, I just kinda feel like Simone might be the human embodiment of inspiration.
This table is amazing! Plus I'm both confused and delighted by Evan and Katelyn being in this video, because that is a cross country crossover.
Can't believe that took you only two months. You're my hero, Simone!
This was definitely not the reaction I expected 😊
I honestly like the idea of the desk with the flip up lid best. It would ensure there's no lip to work over, and you can put stickers and other decorations under the lid for when you open it up.
As someone who has made functional moving things out of wood before, I felt your pain in my heart. This idea for puzzles/board games is absolutely beautiful though.
This is so crazy to see how far Simone has come, so inspiring! This was so creative and beautiful, thank you for doing this and sharing it with us!
That emotion at 13:39!! The feeling of joy and pride and the realisation of how much more you can do all at once!
