I just assumed that's also your problem.
To bend the piece, you need to steam it. Hold the area to bend over a hot pan of boiling water for about 10 minutes then bend slowly. And bend it in small sections for the entire area. Then do it again and again very slowly. You will have to steam it a couple of times of times. It will take over an hour to do it.

My dad was the oldest of 10 siblings and he had more than two dozen nieces and nephews. Your doggy chair reminds me of the rocking chair my dad built for my grandparents. The armrests were child sized seats with backrests. It was the perfect chair for reading Dr. Seuss books with Grandpa.

Did you notice a big difference in Scraps' appreciation when you filled in the risers? One of my family dogs really did NOT like stairs with open risers, especially as she got older. Closed risers were fine, but I think she was afraid of falling through the open ones.

As someone who has 2+ cats that aggressively scream at you for a lap to sit on and are happy to stay there until your legs are full of blood clots, this is a great project
My senior cat would absolutely love this. She's not a lap cat but instead likes to snuggle against my side, which is obviously kinda hard sometimes. My mom's papillon puppy would love it, too!

that's the hardest part of making videos! it's super maddening to film yourself when you're frustrated by a problem and have to solve it while capturing the moment.
Reminds me of the old Victorian “Courting chair” where the seats were opposite so they could be face to face to talk but the arm rest was shared in the middle to keep the two young people apart.

I absolutely love this idea! I have multiple pets and they're constantly jumping on me while I'm at my desk. My only personal note would be that there is no support to the backrest, so I wouldn't be able to sit in it for very long. But I can also see how that would be difficult to add without messing with the whole design. If this came on the market, I would definitely buy one
I don't think it would mess with it too much. The railing for the stairs and the railing for her seat back and I think also Scarps' seat back are all technically separate. I think.
As a woman who designs small things for my cats to make our house a more equal and friendly place, this is the level of confident and skilled I want to become someday. I just got my first saw and used it without injuring myself last month. I'm on my way.

And a footrest because the floor is too far down.
I think that I would add something to provide traction on the step surfaces. Either a sanded paint or some sort of no-slip product. Love this project!
Maybe just a little carpet on each step.
Love the chaotic chill vibes of your vids. The music you play when you are doing a build montage reminds me of a kids show I used to watch when I was a kid called Oswald. The music in that show truly put me at peace with the world and seeing a fellow female maker creating useful art with such immaculate vibes makes me so happy.

Hi Simone! Your dog might eventually appreciate some sort of no-slip substance (carpet, nonslip strips, rubber, etc) glued onto the steps too. My dog has a bad leg and it has really improved her confidence to have that extra traction as she ages.
Really hope something gets added so Scraps can grip better
Great point, traction is a problem for my aging dog jumping off of vinyl plank flooring onto the bed, ok for now

As a Professional Dog Trainer who runs online classes...my dog's would love this! The only problem is that they're too big for this design...but if I had a smaller dog, 100% would purchase. Also, when you asked for a nose touch and properly marked her response, I almost died of happiness. We need more positive dog content out there! ❤️❤️❤️

Best piece of advice, make sure to do a solid 10-15 minutes of active moving before hitting those jumps! And 5-10 minutes of cool down between each run, no matter how long the run was. *Sorry the dog trainer in me can't help but give unsolicited advice...it's a blessing and a curse...😅*

I am so obsessed with how cute this chair is. It has somehow entirely sold me on standing desks, sitting in a stool to work, and also this particular product. Quirky, niche furniture is such a vibe I love it.

Sadly, we lost our little dog to cancer last year, but I know she would have totally loved this chair. She often wanted to sit on my husband's lap when he was using his laptop, and it was uncomfortable for both of them.

As a person with two needy cats who always want to be sitting on my keyboard when I'm working, this is a great product.
this will in fact not stop cats in any way, I would recommend making a platform topped with plexiglass and putting that overtop of the keyboard. That way you can type, and they can continue trying to monopolize your attention.
I think cats like the fact that different keys give different amounts, like one of those mattresses with the individual pockets for springs. A keyboard-based cat-bed design would probably do quite well.
I have a solution get something similar to this but put a random on top then they have there own keyboard
My cat always waits around until I move from the chair, then she just straight up steals my spot and makes me feel guilty about having to move her off again.. luckily I know her weakness ... place an empty box on the floor nearby and she is powerless to resist going for a look inside 👌

I just resorted to giving the cat her own chair so she could sit next to me. Now you're making me rethink my choices...
Don't worry. I got my cats a nursing bed that you can attach to your bed to nurse your baby at night. Because they do insist on sleeping on my pillow, I just got a side sleeper pillow that's now spilling into that attachment. I am very lucky that my partner accepts me as I am. 😂
I actually like that it's a solid piece of furniture. It's furniture in its own right.
Maybe carpet or add grippy matts or something to the stairs to help doggy feel more confident using them. Less slipping, less afraid of falling.

I lost my Miniature Fox Terrier a little over a year ago, but this (with a few minor modifications) is something that she would have loved. She always wanted to be near me and the closest I had was "on my lap", or on a blanket on the floor next to me.... I have been following you for a few years Simone and I always look forward to your content!
I love this! This is the typical life of a small dog owner right here. Totally loved this video and the end product, and more importantly that the pup loved it! I gotta say though, I think black fabric for the cushion would’ve been the best bet, but that can easily be changed.
For a white dog, I think black would not be idea. The dog hair is too visible.
This is great for pets who DON'T want to sit on your lap, but want to be near. So perfect for my cat, she fidgets a lot and doesn't like to sit on really any ones lap but with sit beside you on a couch and butt head you for pets.

Hey Simone, I build toddler learning towers for people. It's a step stool for kids to get up next to a counter top and help with baking, crafts or whatever. I built a couple for my kids years ago and they used them to help grandma make cookies and other fun things. It's essentially a step stool with a rail around the top so that it keeps the kid safe. I've had people ask me to build them one that collapses because it can be kind of bulky. Like a high chair you only use when your grandkids come over. Although I've been working on one where the first step folds into it's self, it occurs to me that there could absolutely be some cool way to over engineer it. Let me know if you would like a picture

My old cat would have LOVED a chair similar to that. She would not stop trying to find a spot as close to me as possible to chillax. She preferred to nap under the wheels of my rolling desk chair when I was at my desk, and I suspect that was so she'd automatically wake up when I was no longer busy.

Six years ago I search for this exact thing. An office chair with puppy sidecar…. You did it! Cheers from all the folks working with small companion dogs. A throne worth of Commander Scraps.
I think that turned out brilliantly! It looks great. And it reminds me of an old fashioned courting seat where the couple could sit together but facing in opposite directions, and there was a sort of armrest/railing that snaked around each of them and between them.

Maybe a compromise could be a full-size mold-replica of Simone? Kind of like the one Adam Savage have of himself
