Then do it again and again very slowly. You will have to steam it a couple of times of times. It will take over an hour to do it.

Watching you work reminds me of my third grade project in Mrs Murphy's class. All the other kids picked some sort of art or craft that they could do on their desk. I decided I wanted to build a book shelf for all my library books. Mrs Murphy got me the wood, a hand saw, a hammer, glue, and nails. She supported me in designing and building it. She showed me how to saw and glue wood, and how to hammer nails. She had me do the work, patiently holding things for me. It was crooked and uneven, but I thought it was beautiful. all that was left was to apply finish. I didn't want to cover the natural wood with paint. Someone suggested going to the high school shop to see if they had something. I did so, and a nice well meaning young man said he would help me. He said, "hey it's a bit crooked, let me just fix it for you" he then proceeded to dis-assemble, re-cut, sand, and assemble my book shelf, then applied lacquer. In the end, I looked at what was a nice shelf, but it was not mine any more. I didn't know how to express how I liked how I had done it. I like how you make what you want. While it is often fun to learn new skills, I hope you don't worry about how others would do it when you find happiness in your own discovery. Thank you for sharing yourself, and the fun and frustrations of creation, with everyone.
Honestly, "Let's Fuck Up This Prototype" is the best attitude I've seen in a long time. Just 100% yes, exactly, I want that clarity and purpose in my life.
Yeah, sometimes that's the only way to move forvard, and wood is relatively cheap, and CNCilia makes quick work of what would have been hours of cutting by hand, so it's no biggie to scrap a prototype in the process.
I am so obsessed with how cute this chair is. It has somehow entirely sold me on standing desks, sitting in a stool to work, and also this particular product. Quirky, niche furniture is such a vibe I love it.
Simone's videos are wonderful, funny--and recently, creative in their production values. So it's not just her personality and projects that attract me, but also the video productions themselves. It's become *impossible* not to love her.

She always wanted to be near me and the closest I had was "on my lap", or on a blanket on the floor next to me.... I have been following you for a few years Simone and I always look forward to your content!
Hey, kinesiology major here. Your dog is super coordinated and balanced so this will be safe for a while but future health complications could make it challenging. Two small changes would drastically increase accessibility for dogs with disabilities and chronic health conditions: skateboard grip tape on top of stairs (paw pads are slippery and dog will be able to see the steps better due to high contrast since they're color blind), stairs are an appropriate height for the dog but if you make another version the bottom stair might be just an inch or so too tall for a dog with hip pain. ALSO, if you ever sell this please for the love of God make a solid chair back with a built in lumbar curve or back cushion or you'll just be selling scoliosis Also more of your dog please he's so fucking cute
Lumbar curve isn't for everyone. I have hyperlordosis and my PT told me lumbar is pretty much the opposite of what I need. Once I eliminated it my sciatica with sitting too long seemed to subside. It's hard to find ergonomic chairs that don't have excessive lumbar.
@@orome9793 That's a great point! I haven't had clinical (supposed to start shadowing this year but the pandemic is a thing) experience with someone who has that. Generally speaking the ergonomic debate is still going. Some people argue it allows people to rely on support that further weakens core muscles, others say people already have shit posture and the lumbar support is important for sedentary people. Plus it's really helpful for people with CFS, chronic pain, low muscle tone (like in downs syndrome), and other disabilities. I suppose from a business standpoint it's be smarter to just not take people like you into consideration given how uncommon hyperlordosis is. But as someone with disabilities (including sciatica and herniated disk) I know how that feels to not even be taken into consideration. It's very frustrating. Maybe she could design a way to adjust the lordotic curve so it would be accessible to everyone!!
@@orome9793 whoa I too have hyper lordosis! I’ve never known anyone else whose like me! I also have a minor scoliosis - just 17% but I agree. Extra lumber support would be awful for me!
Could just make an extra stair for the bottom. Also no need for it to be a chair, could just become a regular dog house. Dog can rest on top and inside the house.
You and your mom are amazing. I am in awe of your talents. In my era, girls never took shop in high school. I might have enjoyed it and learned not to be afraid of drills, sanders, etc.
Simone and friends, I was notified that you posted this video just minutes before a very large and important calc exam. I decided that watching this video would be my reward for finally getting the exam done after weeks of stress about it. During the exam, every time I started to panic, I thought about how excited I was to watch this video afterward. I made an A. Thank you for making my day. I wish you and Commander Scraps a very lovely sit.
Scraps has trained her master very well. ""Come here scraps, come here." Nothing!! "Do you want a treat?" Zooooommmmm! And Scraps takes off for her treat as fast as the cutest little three legged dog can move! Design, engineering, construction and Pavlovian Master Training all in one video!!
"I think she'd prefer it if I was taxidermied and turned into a bed. But since I'm not super keen on that project..." But you've got to admit that it would make for an epic video.
I love how Simone just casually says "I feel like she would prefer it if I was taxidermied and turned into a bed, but I'm not super keen on that project" 0:19 I also love how she says 'project' like she would be able to partake in the 'project'.
Step one, figure out if transferring consciousness into inspector gadget-esque cyborg maker body to taxidermy the old body is harder than scanning your body and casting a replica silicone "skin suit" that can be filled with different materials to feel more "real" and be used as a literal body pillow for Scraps.
My cat always deems my keyboard the best place to plop herself down on. That's where the hands are, that's where the scratches can be obtained from :) Not very practical for work though...
Saw this on your "Never Too Small" interview and it made me so emotional for some reason! It's such a simple piece of furniture to make our little furry friends included, and I fell in love with it. Your whole vibe and channel is sensational. Subscribed.
I have massive anxiety when it comes to power tools, while building my house I wear constant hearing protection because I get panicky and sick, but I do not mind this video at all. It’s so nice🥰
Six years ago I search for this exact thing. An office chair with puppy sidecar…. You did it! Cheers from all the folks working with small companion dogs. A throne worth of Commander Scraps.
I really respect the amount of time these projects take. We see some of the work in time lapsed videos but in reality these things take many hours. Not to mention the creativity they require. Brilliant work Simone!
Don't worry. I got my cats a nursing bed that you can attach to your bed to nurse your baby at night. Because they do insist on sleeping on my pillow, I just got a side sleeper pillow that's now spilling into that attachment. I am very lucky that my partner accepts me as I am. 😂
This is amazing! As a student industrial designer, this video is truly inspiring. It's amazing to see how you come up with ideas and how you execute it all by yourself. And I love how you also show the 'failed' prototypes, as I know that it is a huge and important part of the process. Subscribed!
When a friend of mine bought stairs for her overweight chihuahua to get up and down from her tall bed, the dog didn't want to use it. There was a little bit of carpet in the center of each step. But the large area of slippery wood at the edge of each step clearly made the dog feel unsteady. I cut up a carpet sample and stapled the pieces to completely cover the steps. In addition, each step was removable, as a box top, for storage. I suspect the slippery steps was what Scraps was objecting to. In your case, those drawers complicate it a little. If you cut/grind down the tops of the drawers, you can just run some low-profile outdoor carpet all the way to the back of the drawer. Or, go ahead and stop the carpet at the front of the drawer and that will hold the drawer in place. You'd still need to shorten the drawer, to lift it over the carpet.
Day 2 of telling Simone that I really like the countdown clock during the ad read! I really wish more content creators would do this, helps me know exactly how more much time I can expect! Great video as always!
I'm torn, I like the countdown timers, but I like it even better when the creator sticks with sponsors that relate organically to the channel and make the ad as entertaining as the entertainment. Simone does well, but the champion of good sponsor spots is Lindybeige. Sometimes his ad pitch is a better standalone 90 seconds than any other part of the video.
I know you don’t owe any of us but you’ve been missed. Your sense of humor, creativity, get to it ness (that’s a thing). Thanks for the videos. A pleasure to partake in.

I'm greatly enjoying the "Simone builds things for her adorable dog" series.
Simone: "For some reason, I decided to paint the chair in this kind of..."
Me: "Sage green!"
Simone: "Moldy vomit color?"
Me: "Old school corridor green"
hospital furniture green is where my head went!
I'd say "Chernobyl 80's state-provided depression-green"
Me: pretty foggy forest green! Oh.. ok
I was like “..... well way to make it sound worse than it is”
The transitions between the different parts of the chair using CNCelia made me say "That was a neat transition!"
Imagine if a St. Bernard tried to hop on there ;)
Would only need a larger chair. It would be amazing.
That would be a real test of the structural integrity.
If the alternative is the St Bernard sitting on your lap I don't think you have much of a choice
My brother-in-law had a German shepherd/ husky mix that was like 120+ pound dog. He liked to think he was a lap dog... 🤣
mine would try so hard
Simone's videos are wonderful, funny--and recently, creative in their production values.
So it's not just her personality and projects that attract me, but also the video productions themselves. It's become *impossible* not to love her.
I believe you were looking for “Grand Opening Chair-imony”
Chairimony is SO GOOD lmaoo
The fact that this comment didn't get a ❤ is criminal 😅
Simone: "This video is sponsored by KiwiCo, which lets you learn awesome new skills."
Also Simone, ten seconds later: "Learning is for suckers."
That's why she has patreon, for when her sponsors leave.
This video has 180% of the content I want to see on the internet.
Love how concept becomes reality in your work. You're not afraid to mess up or scrap a bad idea to make it better.
No scrap pun intended
Sraps playing fetch with herself while you worked was cuteness overload!!
Some carpet or similar on the steps should help. My dog is older and has a hard time not slipping on painted wooden steps.
Yes, I was thinking of those "stick on" stair grips. Would probably need to be cut down to size.
Whoever edited this did a truly fantastic job! The nonverbal moments were S tier!
Scraps is just the cutest. I esp loved her popping out of her travel bag in the chair video. And in general. Which is why I love seeing more of her here 😍
I love how she literally just makes whatever she wants omg, she reminds me of Jenna because she still makes good content but it's also ON BRANDDD
I think you explained why I love her so much, she definitely gives off Jenna vibes but has her own authenticity. Just discovered her and I’m absolutely obsessed
I feel like if everybody made videos (and stuff in general) with the Simone/Jenna attitude, the world would be a perfect place
MAKE IT A PRODUCT. As a photographer who has a small dog, I need something like this for editing days!
Tete a tete bench
yes please make it a product I DO NOT HAVE UR SKILLS
Literally here to say this!
There could be a slimmer cat version too.
I love that this channel went from "Simone builds shitty robots" to "Simone makes me want to buy a CNC machine so I too can build my dreams"
Your sense of humour is absolutely great. I haven't laughed so much in a long time. Thanks for the cheering up, I really needed it just now.
I can totally see my cat using this...
...as their throne xD
My cat would sit in the nook just to swat at/nibble on my ankles.
as they should
My cat would claim the human side as his own.
Nah it would probably use it as a ladder to your keyboard to assert dominance
meow! back to work you lackey!
simone making weirdly specific furniture is my favorite kind of video
More precisely, Simone making solutions to weirdly specific problems she has.
100 years from now someone on Antiques Roadshow trying to figure out what this was for.
I don't get why after YEARS I only now find out about your channel. It's funny, wholesome, entertaining and just so random.. Absolutely love everything about it.
I need this chair for my 3 lb Yorkie named Dexter… he sits with me at my office and my nail salon everyday all day, but he sits behind me, so I’ve learned to sit at the edge of my chair so I don’t squish him. 😂 I’ve done this for 8.5 years. I’d love this chair! I need this chair!!!
Isn't it amazing the lengths we go to for our pets?! ❤
"ambitious prototype" ok in stealing that as a nickname for my older twin sister😂😂
Both of you are prototypes, you born on the same day
I'm going to use it on my 13 years older brother, who is a civil engineer...
And I'll call my 10 years older Sister a 0-series pre-production model XD
@@fadel_rama she's 4 minutes older than me, so my mum very quickly worked out the kinks in production lol😂
@@bryonymason3104 Launch day patch

me: oh that’s a pretty seafoam green color!
simone: so i decided to paint it this *moldy vomit color*
Same, I was like "ahhh, so pretty, I love that colour", then... dang. :D
It reminds me of Frankie Stein's skin color
There are scarcely more pleasurable ways to spend time than watching random moments, thoughts, and creations get Giertzed into existence.
Wow, never thought "giertz" as a verb would have such a positive meaning
@@simonegiertzTo Giertz into existence: To press something so hard into existence, that it might get some bruises and scratches through the process, but that gives it somewhat of a special charm.
@@simonegiertz I have harbored a natural appreciation for the name ever since I heard you mock-shout it in one of your videos. A genuine thank you for Giertzing my day!
I lost my Miniature Fox Terrier a little over a year ago, but this (with a few minor modifications) is something that she would have loved.
ALSO, if you ever sell this please for the love of God make a solid chair back with a built in lumbar curve or back cushion or you'll just be selling scoliosis
Also more of your dog please he's so fucking cute
I might have lordosis, too. Really fucks up my day if I get it to ache.
Could just make an extra stair for the bottom. Also no need for it to be a chair, could just become a regular dog house. Dog can rest on top and inside the house.
That “your the chosen one” feeling where you actually come up with an original idea is the best .
Simone: paints the chair a very trendy sage green colour
also Simone: so I painted it this moldy vomit colour...
I was in the middle of exclaming that it was a pretty colour when she said that XD
"Breaks thing"
Stares deeply for a minute
"Shrugs"
Wow, I so get that moment. Way too well.
Me too
Scraps has trained her master very well. ""Come here scraps, come here." Nothing!!
"Do you want a treat?" Zooooommmmm! And Scraps takes off for her treat as fast as the cutest little three legged dog can move!
Design, engineering, construction and Pavlovian Master Training all in one video!!
the irony of simone pointing out how humble she is killed me, we know you're wholesome as f keep doing what you do best!
"I think she'd prefer it if I was taxidermied and turned into a bed. But since I'm not super keen on that project..." But you've got to admit that it would make for an epic video.
Maybe a compromise could be a full-size mold-replica of Simone? Kind of like the one Adam Savage have of himself
I mean she did have Simtwo and we saw how that went...
oh the things we do for likes, amirite
Allow me to recommend "the brain scoop". They do mark videos with particularly gross content, so use your judgment.
Genius!

HI
you don't think it needs more blades, flames, hydraulics, or horsepower?
Indeed
Hello
I like that you keep all parts in the final video, frustration and cussing are all valid. Kudos.
I love how Simone just casually says "I feel like she would prefer it if I was taxidermied and turned into a bed, but I'm not super keen on that project" 0:19
I also love how she says 'project' like she would be able to partake in the 'project'.
Step one, figure out if transferring consciousness into inspector gadget-esque cyborg maker body to taxidermy the old body is harder than scanning your body and casting a replica silicone "skin suit" that can be filled with different materials to feel more "real" and be used as a literal body pillow for Scraps.
"A really ambitious prototype... which is also what I call my older brother"
I am the overly ambitious prototype in my family. I accept this moniker.
As a cat mom, I need this in my life. There's just no good way to have your cat lay on you while you work.
Same! My cat was sitting on my lap during the whole video
@@kaylarm20 LOL! My cats want to sit in my lap, EVEN THOUGH I have a bed on my desk for them. The struggle! :)
@@cherylkutcher6087 have you tryed to put a warm water bottle on their bed?
My cat always deems my keyboard the best place to plop herself down on. That's where the hands are, that's where the scratches can be obtained from :) Not very practical for work though...
Saw this on your "Never Too Small" interview and it made me so emotional for some reason! It's such a simple piece of furniture to make our little furry friends included, and I fell in love with it. Your whole vibe and channel is sensational. Subscribed.
Engineering pet content might be my new favorite niche. This is super wholesome and interesting, thank you Simone :)
As a small people with a small pet who definitely needs to be in my lap and then also not every five minutes while I work - I need this so much!
Simone's ability to make power tool noises soothing will never cease to amaze me
I have massive anxiety when it comes to power tools, while building my house I wear constant hearing protection because I get panicky and sick, but I do not mind this video at all. It’s so nice🥰
Simone's power tool asmr
Six years ago I search for this exact thing. An office chair with puppy sidecar…. You did it! Cheers from all the folks working with small companion dogs. A throne worth of Commander Scraps.
I really respect the amount of time these projects take. We see some of the work in time lapsed videos but in reality these things take many hours. Not to mention the creativity they require. Brilliant work Simone!
I think that Evan and Katelyn would love one of these for there supervisor.
YES

I just resorted to giving the cat her own chair so she could sit next to me. Now you're making me rethink my choices...

I Googled this a few months ago - my dog is SO needy and the couch where I’m currently working makes me sleepy. I also saw no results. I’d LOVE this!
Day 2 of telling Simone that I really like the countdown clock during the ad read! I really wish more content creators would do this, helps me know exactly how more much time I can expect! Great video as always!
Great feature, I agree, but this ad was an outright friendly recommendation of something interesting, so I watched through it without noticing. :)
Right? I got worried when she was MIA for a bit.
You set a high standard for indulging your pets. Good job.
I think my pup would have loved this. His little dog house looked something like this with a little balcony too. I would definitely buy the needy dog chair if he was still around.
