The first game really gave you motivation to care about Aloy. Who was she? Why was she called motherless? Would she ever be accepted? The game also did a good job giving you a goal that extended beyond your village, including wanting to get justice for the death of Rost. The world felt mysterious and although it certainly didn't flesh out the lore of the history of the world beyond the program to save said world, it certainly compelled you to explore to try to find out anything that might fill in the gaps.
In HFW, the story falls back on fetch quests/missions. Go to this place to talk to this person. Go to this place to get this thing. This is especially true in the upgrading and crafting systems. For the first half of the game, that is all you're really doing. You don't have the same level of motivation as the first game provided. It tries to make this war with Regalla seem like some big deal.........but I honestly didn't care about it or the people it affected. Part of the reason why is because besides the graphical differences, all the villages were "copy and paste" with no life in them.
In the second half of the game, HFW tries to give you more motivation by killing Varl........but iti's done in such a lazy and ho-hum way with almost zero after-effects.....than I still find myself not caring.
Playing this at the moment and although it looks great it's pretty boring and repetitive af.
Same I’m about to not Rage quit but Bored quit I really wanted to love this game but it’s wasting my time and I’m unemployed 😂😂😂😂😂
Looks fun, but in the game is seriously unfun. Everything feels like a job rather than something to have fun with. The various fetch quests, the overehelming amount of scrap you need to collect, etc.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that is critical of the writing in this game. I agree with most of your criticisms save for Aloy being unlikeable and there being no memorable characters in Zero Dawn. The amount of people praising the story is baffling to me. I have no hope for the series at this point. To say it jumped the shark is an understatement.
I loved HZD, but HFW was seriously unfun. Every aspect of the game managed to be a chore, even just running from one place to another.
It's possibly the most agitating game I've come across, in regards to what the devs want you to do. It's like they prepped a decent meal, then came along and said "no you need to put more salt on it, and eat it in the order we tell you".
A game of potential that was wasted.

I was going to buy this game, watched a lot of gameplay beforehand and decided not to.
It just seems to be extremely boring.
21:00 and on..........yep....the story is now irreversibly broken, imo. So much so, I have no interest in the eventual third game.

A bit of constructive criticism, the left and right channel of your voice is very uneven for some reason. Listening via headphones is a bit psychedelic.

I tried this game and kept getting lost and I hate talking to NPCs this shyt pissed me off it’s not fun fuck this game

GOW difficulty is same, I had to play on easy to have fun because the enemies were HP sponges. I played difficult games before, I killed The Nameless King…lol
But is it a triangle button mashing simulator like Ghost of Tsushima? 😂
I spent the review thinking “I don’t like this rating system” but a pleasant surprise to see it wrap up into a 100 point scale at the end

The facial animations are much better than the first game
I'm playing through now, and I'm struggling to stay with it. I'm enjoying the technical and gameplay aspects, the combat, exploration, collecting, etc. But the story and characterizations are killing me, they took everythign that was sort of annoying from the first one, and turned them up to 11. Aloy was such an adorable little girl, where did it all go wrong, lol. She's practically insufferable in this one, the ultimate sarcastic, dismissive, know it all, unbeatable girl boss, like in every movie and TV show today, and she can't shut up for a minute. They ramped up the matriarchal power fantasy aspect to 11, all the strongest warriors, are the women, most of the men are skinny obnoxious idiots knitting armor or something, aside from the stronger leader types who are usualy the villains that need to be taken out by Aloy. Mos tof the NPCs are unattractive and or annoying in some way, and the story puts me to sleep, I find myself skipping through the audio dialog so I don't have to hear them speak. And they rounded it all off with some climate propaganda in the datapoints, more than the first one i shoudl say. The aspects that i do like are good enough to keep me playing anyway, so far.
Give me a break Pixar Dreaworks need to design and develop humans in video game they all look SOO cringy yet we say it look so real

Whoever made this game didn’t play it themselves, they just threw all this shit in there cuz it was on their checklist. The writing is honestly trash, its very formulaic modern writing, man is unforgivably flawed and evil and dumb and woman who is the opposite saves the day. Thats the story of 1 and 2, and 3 when that releases too.
Sony learned nothing from the Last Of Us 2. Horizon Forbidden West was all about catering to a select few. Ultimately its turning into a Woke disaster.

Ok I just started playing about 30h in and it feels thrown together. Like they packed all their ideas in to one and made it feel like they're catering to the people that never played the first one. The controls have multiple functions for the same buttons and it just makes it super glitchy. I love how the only white person is Aloy and the game play makes her out to be nothing special and very weak almost Like they're catering to the woke. Upgrading seems to be a lot more complicated and doesn't seem to strengthen the character all that much. Got to love the free face painting they give you under special called pride!! And it's a rainbow. You're treated like garbage by pretty much everyone even your old friends throughout the game and though you saved the world you find out all your efforts in the first game was pointless. It is hard to get over the controls and the glitchnes of the character. I hate trying to glide and it goes to the map. I hate the weapon wheel aspesuly after creating arrows and it seems to switch your weapon in you. When you try to shoot three arrows it goes into Vale I actually have to take the skill points off that one and wen doing that it cleared all the skill points and had to fill everything back in. I absolutely hate this game!!
aloy is far from the only white character. also there's a lot of bland and boring poc characters in this game lol. your're entitled to your own opinions but exaggerations like this are cringe.
interestingly enough i'm gay and i've played countless hours of this game and never even saw the pride facepaint. guess you're hyperfocusing alot on things that go against your own personal biases lol who tf cares...

you werent using the ropecaster enough might be the problem. as soon as i learned to use tht thing in the first game it made the game alot easier.
