I'm no expert but from my own experience something along the lines of Irish Spring soap is the best for clearing up an oily complexion. Follow that up with a very light layer of Grape seed oil or a touch of lotion to not leave your skin overly dry and you're good. You mentioned something about that in a stream a while back and I forgot to mention it so here it is.

Bruh, I've been playing games my entire life. I've played all types. The first Horizon game looked uninteresting. A chick running around fighting robot dinosaurs. That's dumb, I'm not interested.
Then they made a second one? Why? Who cares? The lore and world are dumb, I don't care what anyone says, it's dumb. Shooting arrows at robot dinosaurs? Guys, this is stupid.
It failed because it's not interesting to most people. It's not a sturdy concept, it's a dumb concept.

This isn't the first time where Sony underestimated FromSoft and their genius either. When Demon's Souls was funded and published by Sony Sony was dead set on keeping that game exclusive to Japan because they did not believe in an international success. That ended up biting them in the ass and serving Bandai Namco very well with them being the publisher of the Dark Souls franchise that sold 25 million units and Elden Ring which has sold over 12 million units and is still pushing millions to this day.

You have access to a lot of easy areas you can level up in right off the bat and can even avoid Stormville Castle and other difficult bits altogether. It's open design allows the game to be as easy or as hard as you want it to be. Get stuck on Margit or Godrick? you can fast travel to another area and have a blast exploring and leveling up to get strong enough to beat him... you are a glutton for punishment? Virtually no area is closed and you can venture into zones where enemies are vastly overpowered at your leasure. Death is much less punished than in previous souls games with Runes and sources of grace basically litered all over the map. It’s kinda funny how each time a Horizon game came out, a well-respected and long-running game series makes its first foray into open world gaming by taking the approach that allows players to discover the games’ content on their own and encourage discussion and gathering info among players rather than peppering the game map with icons for players to mindlessly follow instead. When people started calling Elden Ring "Open World Dark Souls" it completely blew my mind because that move make perfect sense for the franchise (Even thou Elden Ring is it's own thing detached from Dark Souls). Aside from robot dinosaurs, Horizon always felt to me like just another open world game with than cinematic touch and hand holding from playstation exclusives. And even if Elden Ring has basically the same combat style of any Dark Souls, the art direction and the epic scale of it's world and presentation alone completely hooked me. The game just throws you in it and let you figure it out yourself rather than artificially locking content because "it's not the time yet" or forcing you into linear sections because "it's story time".
Elden Ring, like Breath of the Wild, truly felt like you were in a journey by yourself rather than being taken to a journey by someone else.

I actually disagree with the core theme of this video; that Elden Ring's success was predictable and it was stupid not to avoid it. Traditionally, FromSoft souls-likes do well but not tippy top of the sales charts well. I think the prevailing wisdom was that FS had a niche it ruled but didn't have much impact outside of that niche. Sure, Elden Ring was MY most anticipated game of....forever, but I wouldn't have thought Forbidden West would have suffered much by the comparison either. I was completely taken aback by the success of Elden Ring. Sekiro or DS3 were not even CLOSE to this culturally ubiquitous. Every streamer, every gaming channel, every magazine was suddenly lazer focused on this one 2.5A game. I think what Elden Ring revealed was that FromSoft had been playing the long game. FromSoft's reputation had been growing for a long time. Even if their games weren't exploding, public trust inthe company had been growing. By the time Sekiro got GOTY everyone knew of fromSoft as "That developer that makes the good games" and there were a lot of people who WANTED to play a Souls game but either never got around to it or who were intimidated by their reputation for high difficulty and enormous scope. Then Elden Ring comes along. It's open world. It's a little more accessible. It's brand new and it's reviewing like crazy. FromSoft's hard work over the past decade and a half suddenly payed off big time and every mother fucker still breathing bought, played and streamed this game. I think nobody expected Elden Ring to capture the sorta mainstream gaming crowd the way it did.

They expected to sell 4 million copies in three months to say the game was successful, instead they reached way more than what they predicted in less than a month.
FromSoft cared about its niche design which from a sales standpoint might have not been so wise but from a passion for games stance it was the best hill to die on for them, luckily they got successful in both aspects to the point even other devs and some game journos got salty about the praise Elden Ring has in many communities, which sadly nowadays is something good because you get haters only if you're good enough at something that got popular.
I just want FromSoft to keep caring about what they want to do as devs to deliver good products, like the time they released Sekiro which wasn't the spiritual successor to the Souls Trilogy many people expected but they nailed it regardless. Having an Elden Ring "sequel" would be amazing but it certainly would be very hard work and a lot of time for FromSoft, I don't want them to do a CD Projekt Red, I want them to be the FromSoft we love.

In fairness to Sony, Elden Ring blew its sales projections out of the water. We all thought ER was going to be big, but I don't think anyone could have predicted this level of success.
As originally slated, Elden Ring was going to be the best selling souls game ever and sell 4 million copies in the first 3 months. Instead, it sold 12 million in under 3 weeks. That's over half the entire sales of all souls games up until that point. And the game has continued to sell. It's already the second best selling game of the past 12 months (behind CoD) despite only having been on sale for 2.
So, given how things played out, no amount of delay would have helped Horizon. I hope they get to keep making games though. They seem to be a talented team with a lot going for them.

No it wouldn’t have. I love elden ring and platinumed it already but I’m so sick of people acting like elden ring is perfect or that every open world game needs to be like elden ring now. QUIT IT.
I like horizon forbidden west much more then Elden ring. This is coming from someone with over 200 hours in the game and the platinum. While elden ring is amazing, it DID NOT do everything better then horizon.
I will concede that the exploration in elden ring is much better especially if you like true freedom, even though I personally prefer having waypoints and proper guidance. I like being able to just come home from work, boot the game up and relax. I don’t want to stress and waste hours trying to find shit or discover where to go all the time.
I don’t have time for that shit In every game. Horizon is much more relaxing and pleasant to play due to this. Also, sure the combat in Elden ring is still really fun, but it’s no where near as fun as horizons combat.
The game has some amazing boss fights but most of them are copy and paste, the boss fights in horizon are much more epic and fun.
Nothing competes with fighting a huge terminator serpent or T-Rex with multiple missile launchers, lasers and all this other shit etc. Swapping between different bows and arrow types while laying traps out and trying to hit/knock off specific enemy parts to weaken them and try to get rare parts from it, so you can craft even better shit is much more fun then r1 or r2 spam lol.
The story In elden ring is good but only if you spend hours going through lore videos and reading lore descriptions, it’s obtuse asf just like every souls game. Horizon presents its story in a much better way.
Also while the world itself is beautiful in elden ring, it’s just much nicer in horizon too and the graphics in Elden ring don’t compare to horizon AT ALL. So I’d argue that aside from true freedom while exploring/world design, horizon does everything 10x better then elden ring lol.

Like, let's not pretend that Dark Souls 3 and Seikiro were indie games that didn't get any mainstream attention. They were huge. Not Elden Ring huge, but absolutely huge enough to say there's a big market for good, complete, and challenging games. Like, why else would there be an entirely new genre spawned for them if they weren't already extremely popular? Sorry, I just hate people pretending like this is some rare case when it's really not.

I totally agree on your points. But there's something missing in the equation. Fromsoftware's perspective on releasing their most anticipated game a week later Forbidden West. As a From fan, I was scared they would underperform. Zero Dawn is one of the best, if not the best, new ip seller of all time. It sold 20 million copies (Playstation 4,+PS5,+PC) without being some kind of sequel or homage to other game. That's incredible. Then I saw the numbers of Elden Ring after 3 weeks and I was astonished. I sincerely didn't thought the hype was that big outside of From's community. That just shows the confidence of the studio not only in their product but also in their core fans. I'm pleased that happened, but it sucks that overshadowed a perfectly fine game as Forbidden West. I'm actually really happy about the Horizon games, despite not liking them. I just like when developers create new, original concepts (in this case, Horizon's setting) and get great succes.

To be fair in regards of this year releases, FW was delayed first to Feb. 2022, and later ER was also delayed to Feb. 22.
Yes, delaying a game is justified when it lacks polish and what not, but multiple delays cost money to everyone starting by you having to make new marketing campaigns for the new release date.
As a developer you also have to show you are capable of good resource management and release stuff in time.
FW was unlucky enough to compete against a game that carries the legacy and fame of a design philosophy dating back to the first days of the PS3 and that eventually made it to all major platforms (Xbox, PC and even Switch in the case of DSR).
NO ONE will set their product to fail on purpose and PlayStation worked heavily in the marketing of FW, they had nor choice nor excuse once the game had gone gold.
Of course, now that ER blasted expectations out of the water every major title is being delayed to not compete against it for GOTY.

Here's my take. I've played both games. I could barely bring myself to play HFW even after I've finished it. It's honestly annoying how HFW literally tells you where to go, what to do, what you should do every few seconds or minutes. I want to say for a game that's released for teens, it sure does make you feel like a baby. It does look amazing, not gonna lie.
Then I played Elden Ring. 2nd Souls game that I've played. 1st one being DS2. I never finished it sadly since I was still young during that console generation. Out of all 19 PS4 and PS5 games I owned that time, Elden Ring was the only game that I finished 3 times. It was just a much better experience to the point that it made me consider getting the older FromSoft games once I catch a break from work.
Maybe I'm just getting old but open world games nowadays feel way too oversaturated. BotW reignited my passion to play video games and Elden Ring made me feel that once more. Both of those games just felt way too natural for me.
I'm sure there are a few who agree with me and some don't for sure. In the end, this is my experience from playing both games. It's just my opinion and I hope everyone can understand that.

When a game wins "most anticipated game" award maybe it's smart to delay whatever game you're releasing for a month or two, in this case I don't think a month would've been enough. My collector's edition of Horizon is still sealed, I mainly orderd it because of the giant fucking Mammoth robot which is awesome, but in all honesty I didn't enjoy the first Horizon game all that much because it reminded so much of the Ubisoft Assasin creed open world trash formula, it's fun to go against all the amazing robo dinos but other than that not much is interesting, however souls games are by far the most fun I had playing video games Elden Ring promised all that in a huge open I took a week off for it's release and couldn't start playing soon enough. On top of it all beside like ONE Area were you have to beat two Bosses to enter it, the game is just open.
Then on the other Hand you got AC Valhala or HFW / HZD, HURR DURR your Level is to low, play this Story mission first to get cool gimmick.

The Horizon games make me upset, they have a humongus budget yet they lack anything in the sort of creativity: They "borrow" so many mobility, level, skills, stealth and enemy bases from Asscreed and Far Cry and become dull and repetitive, they also "borrow" so much in the form of dialogue from the Witcher 3 like the conversation progress (sadly no option to play gwent) and choices but then no choices have any influence in the story. Then there's the characters, who speak like average everyday sardonic americans, despite the setting no one developed other languagues, accents or idioms. I'm not surprised no one was talking about FW because despite being a decent game theres just nothing to discuss.

I was one of the odd people who bought Horizon Forbidden West day one and never bought Elden Ring. Ironically I never played Zero Dawn because I was completely engrossed in Breath of the Wild and after spending 700 plus hours on that game was sorta burned out on video games for awhile after. I actually watched a 6.5 hr movie/recap on TH-cam to prep for Forbidden West. After starting I really fell in love with the game and am still filling out the edges of a “perfect game” 225 hours later. I’m all that time I was never tempted to buy or play Elden Ring despite all the hype and rave reviews. But I’m not a huge Souls fan. The only game I maxed out was the PS5 exclusive remake of Demon’s Souls by Bluepoint. So for me I might be one of the rare people who will have played Forbidden West and skipped Elden Ring.

    • @Shawsh2143
      @Shawsh2143 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

The first game was good and it could hold its own against Zelda but the second one simply got lazy and not only got overshadowed by the Elden Ring Hype but also the sheer genre defining quality that it brought to the table when it released. The Horizon developers suffer from having an old, uninspired, ubisoft-style open world approach with a million markers on the map and hundreds of boring and useless fetch side quests. They even had Far Cry-style crafting where you have to kill animals for their hides. This is a game about monstrous animal machines and they want you to kill rabbits. The strong point of the first Horizon were the machines. They needed to double down on those. Yet half of them are copied over and the other few new ones aren't as exciting. Not having flying unlocked way earlier is what put the final nail in the coffin for Horizon. It didn't try anything new and it relied on the success of the first game too much.
While I loved the first game and was excited for the second installment, ultimately I am glad I chose Elden Ring over FW and I think the publishers and (head) developers of FW deserved this situation for they could have made their product better or not be as arrogant as they were as to release one week before a new FromSoft title .

      @thefiercedruid 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

@@Shawsh2143 sorry but have you played any of the two titles? Because if you had you would now that the crafting isn't new , they eveolved most of the ingame contant to some degree from the first game(so i don't now where the lazy comes from) and the mapmarkes are just a lazy excuse for liking one style better than the other. I truly do not understand why you and so many other Elden Ring fans feel the need to trash a so inferior, lazy game to make elden ring look better. Elden Ring is great let it speak for itself. HFW is great let it spek for itself and just let the people enjoy the gema they like there is no right or wrong about this. People have diffent priorites in games which incline them towards one or the other so taste you can't argue about.

    • @Shawsh2143
      @Shawsh2143 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@thefiercedruid I have played both which is the only reason I voice my opinion. Many Horizon fans think it only wasn't received well because the Big Bad Elden Ring was mean and overshadowed it. I'm just saying that Elden Ring is a superior entertainment product objectively and it fully deserves the praise it gets while Horizon is just an average continuation of a good first game. Horizon 2 had a lot of potential but the devs are either lazy or wanted to play it safe. That's arguably worse than making a bad game. Great potential for the IP but very weak execution. Literally the only expectation I had for Horizon 2 was being able to use flying mounts and they do give them but essentially only when the game is about to end. That's playing it safe and not trying to innovate. This is only one of many criticisms I have for the game. Map markers aren't a "style" they're a video game design relic and should only be used sparingly by the game itself or allow the player so set them themselves. Bombarding the UI with a million markers is lazy, period. And I know the crafting isn't new, I was even saying how bad it was that they make you kill non-robot animals when the identity of the game revolves around the robots. That crafting "style" already existed in Far Cry and Red Dead, it's nothing new. It's lazy. If you can't see this then honestly you just have bad taste in video games and that's fine.
Elden Ring on the other hand puts any open world game that has come before it to absolute shame. Elden Ring is so impactful that gaming history could be split into "before ER" and "after ER". This game shows the industry that Assassin's Creed every year is not the best we can and should be able to expect. And Horizon, with it's second game, is walking towards Assassin's Creed status and away from a good open world like Elden Ring.
There's more I could say but I'm getting bored of this.

One thing I personally like elden ring over games like Horizon is that it doesn't constantly bog you down constant annoying dialogue and bland characters. Outside of Aloy I felt no connection to the characters because they don't do much or so very bland and dont offer personality which is a problem Guerilla has had since their Resistance games. In elden ring, I felt more attached to characters like Blaidd, Roderika, Hewg, Alexander, Ranni, etc. Despite the limited lines the VAs put so much passion in their deliveries that it makes them so memorable. The stories and journies they go through and the choices you make that could affect them is what makes Elden ring feel more lively than Horizon. Even boss characters like Radahn have so much backstory and the games spends time to hype you up before facing them. The emptiness of Redmane castle as you draw closer to it and hear the chanting of Radahn's soldiers and you meet fellow friends and other champions ready to take on Radahn. That is where I realize that Radahn was not a monster but a hero who suffered long enough that needs to be put to rest. It is stuff like that makes Elden ring more intriguing that it makes me want to know these characters more. Horizon though has so much expostion but most of it is pointless and does little in actually developing these characters and I honestly wished it could have been better. I love the concept of Horizon's world but it's characters don't live up to it.

    great and interesting video
played the first horizon and liked it.
playing elden ring though.... man that ignited my gamer heart like no other game did for a long time. got the platinum.... then played bloodborne again to get the platinum and now i'm soon finished with the platinum for Sekiro. i love the games of From Software so much.
I dont think i can enjoy games like Horizon anymore so i will skip Forbidden West but I'm interested in your critique.

Souls games have spoiled other games for me, can't really play anything else unless the story and or characters are brilliantly written in other games

I made the mistake of buying Horizon a week before deciding to buy Elden Ring.
I was perfectly happy and enjoying my time with HFW, although the Map was killing me with all the shit it had, but I was enjoying it.
A week goes by, I’ve been considering Elden Ring for a while but just afraid of the challange. Around that time the new Sifu update came out and I welcomed the new challenge it offered, and it gave me the optimism to try Elden Ring.
So I got the game, came home and tried for 30 minutes just to taste it and continued playing Horizon… oh boy… the whole time playing Horizon I just wanted to go back to Elden ( not to forget I stopped playing Horizon to completely beat the new Sifu difficulty by reaching Yang at 20 years of age ) and now I’m 30 hours in Elden Ring with no intention of stopping.
    Elden Ring is… beautiful
(Apologies to my girlfriend for dealing with a Cavemen screaming at Fajar and other Sifu bosses at that time, it was fun tho)

He believes people will either get HFW or ER, at the end of the day it does not matter. Dying Light 2 which released on the 4. Febuary aready sold 5mil copies while competing with other AAA games and being non-existent in conversation. People will still play HFW even after completing ER. I personally have both copies for PS5, but started with ER due to HFW having bugs at launch which could affect my enjoyment of the world and story

The weird thing is that elden ring wasn’t really insanely popular before release, after he reviews came out and literally every stream on the planet playing it, then it just went crazy, but before launch none of the trailers have 10+ million views

Okay I am calling bull on this comment cause they had George R.R. Martin doing hype for Elden Ring like a year ago.
Even I knew about Elden Ring long before it came out and I've never read or seen anything related to GoT/ASoFaI until like two weeks ago cause my family bought the boxset cause of a trip to Ireland.
Yeah, the author of A Song of Fire and Ice/Game of Thrones helped write parts of Elden Ring. Basically the remnants of the once colossal GOT fandom got funneled into Elden Ring cause Martin did some writing for it.
The hype isn't just from streamers or even the gaming community but GOT fans desperate for GRRM content. Like really y'all can't ignore how much of a money maker GRRM is to Elden Ring as a whole.

I bought horizon forbidden west with the intention of buying elden ring on release day as well. I'm one of those guys who needs to finish one game before I move on to the next one. I was playing horizon every single day but when Elden ring came out a week after I had to try it. Kept telling myself I needed to beat horizon first but then couldn't put Elden ring down and now horizon is still sitting there half finished and I just don't want to jump into it again lol

Not too surprising, Its like what would you rather pick? A generic ubisoft open world game or an open world game with freedom to explore and fight sooo many different tough bosses with so much weapon customization and builds for replay value?
Horizon has got pointless dialogues and boring characters meanwhile elden ring just cuts to the chase.

I think the problem is that the developers try to tell a character-driven story while that is not what players find appealing about the game.
What draws in people are the machines and the setting!
