    Very interesting and informative video. I am always surprised to see how many pilots rely on intelligent flight modes. As a professional drone pilot in Canada, I never use any of them with my P4 Pro (except tripod mode sometimes), but the time it takes to set up POINT OF INTEREST mode, for example, takes way more time than to just fly the pattern manually, which is easy if you have the skills to fly your drone smoothly. I just received my new Mini 2 the other day, the primary reason I bought it is because of it's quiet performance, compact size, and excellent battery flight time. So far, I actually prefer the camera to that of my P4 Pro. With my P4 and its much-ballyhooed shutter camera, I ALWAYS have to make numerous adjustments in Lightroom. Its native color profile is inferior to my old P3 Pro. So far, testing my Mini 2, the auto camera settings get the colors absolutely perfect. I work mostly as a real estate photographer, and I plan to do most of my future work with the Mini 2 instead of my P4. I'll keep the P4 because it supports waypoints (for mapping jobs), but for real estate, the Mini 2 is packed with features and has great camera quality. I like my P4's obstacle avoidance feature, but I don't trust it completely and never rely on it. I say, the Mini 2 is definitely a GREAT professional-quality drone for pilots who primarily do real estate shooting. Also, it is probably the best travel drone on the planet. I can't wait to see how it behaves in controlled airspace, as this is a frequent annoyance for me with my P4 Pro. Also, the rebel in me likes that I don't have to register it.

      Thanks Tim i've always aired on the side of go for overkill then later on if i need to upgrade i've saved trading in etc but the Mini 2 does seem to pack a lot in such a small drone.I still have a Phantom 2 V+ but it's hardly the most discrete option whereas the Mini 2 is - also the regulations in the UK make the Mini 2 look the best option. It's looking like the Mini 2 might just get a buy it now click very shortly ! The footage looks great.

    I already own the Mavic Air 2 and I don't plan to travel to a foreign country. I am a 107 pilot thus I have no problem registering. In fact, I prefer it that way. I had a Mavic Pro before and the Air 2 does every bit what I had with the Air 2. I think the Mini 2 still would be a good starter drone just as many of us started with the Spark. You don't even hear much about a Spark anymore, huh? DJI has given us some great choices.

    For Mini 2, i can say its photo and video quality are much more than i expected. More enough than need's of a hobbyist. But what i dont like about Mini 2 is lack of HDR video-photo (RAW is my friend as for now), lack of active track (Without 3rd party) and maybe obstacle sensors (For some extreme conditions). Mini 3 Pro exists for this. But Mini 2 in this price is really game changer for a hobbyist..

If you live in an area where you don’t need a 107 to fly the MA2, and you have the $, I think the MA2 is the way to go. You’re getting so much more drone and it’s still so portable. HDR, Smart Photo, “48mp” when you want it, hyperlapse, better sensor and stronger gimbal in wind, D-Cinelike, h.265, faster and better in the wind, quick release props, 8gb built in storage, active track, spotlight (my favorite), and much safer because of the sensors and airsense. I'm just getting started. I love that DJI are including ADS-B (what DJI calls AirSense) in their drones over 250g. I live in the San Francisco Bay area, some of the most congested airspace in the country, and I'm also a student pilot. Even though ADS-B isn't required on drones, I want it: that leaves me torn between Air and Pro. I'd like a Mini for interiors, backpacking, or if travelling to countries subject to the 250g weight restriction.

    Does the mini 2 have follow me? If not then mavic air 2 still is my go to. Dji should let people have the follow me option but put a disclaimer that if the drone crashes due to pilots mistake like enabling the follow me eventhough without the necessary sensors then it will be on their side of repair and not on dji. Because we can still use the follow me provided you survey the area and make sure there will be no hazard ahead to use that option.

    1) seemingly perfect travel drone to take photos and videos for my family back home,
    2) being listed at 249g = less ball ache with UK laws,

    Huge Thumbs up for this video!!!! It is the most thoughtful and most thorough comparison video I've seen to date on this topic. The ONLY thing I thing I'd like to have seen more about is how the SpotLight and Point of interest features of the MA2 can be used to make getting certain shots dead simple. Granted I realize that this video wasn't intended to go into great detail about MA2 features...but I think many people who might be watching this video and trying to decide which drone to purchase may not understand what Spotlight and Point of Interest features really do and therefore may not understand the value of these features....so I think just 60 seconds more on each of these two features (e.g., example of where you would use these two features to simplify a shot) would have helped tremendously. If you have a more detailed video on some of the MA2 videos it might be worthwhile to reference that video to get more details. Or maybe this creates an opportunity for a follow on more detailed comparison. All said this was a great video!

The rest of the flying is exactly the same. Mini 2 is good for those who appreciate the flexibility this drone gives them such as the legal ability to fly in more place and over people, or the portability which is god-sent especially for hikers. If you are after your first drone and these two things do not appeal to you, then get the Mavic Air or pro for more safety features and better flying/video/build quality.

    It's really funny that charging by USB-C is such a big point. I literally don't own anything that has a USB-C port. My car has both chargers because my wife has a newer phone which does have a USB-C port. I'm wondering why the physical plug has anything to do with being able to charge it from a powerbank. My powerbank, like most you can buy, has a USB-A plug and it makes no difference whether my wife with her USB-C device or me with my micro-USB device plugs into it - the powerbank simply provides the charge the device and cable is capable of (if it's a fairly new powerbank that supports all the charging standards).
    Well, I never had a drone before but I did buy a regular mini recently for those few shots I can't do without a flying camera. We'll see how that goes long term but I doubt I'll invest in something a lot more expensive anytime soon. I go out and hike/camp a lot so the occasional aerial shot will improve the portfolio, but since I shoot for my own pleasure I don't need 4k (I literally have no display capable of displaying 4k, my TV is 15 years old - I don't watch TV so no 4k here). My smartphone is several generations old and that's just fine. I do have a good mirrorless camera with a set of lenses and accessories, but again, while it can do 4k at a medium frame rate I mostly do stills anyways.
    Interesting videos, but the question is: do you need anything "top notch"? Most people will do photographs or short videos for their FB or Instagram feeds and nobody needs top notch for that kind of resolution. I think portability is a lot more important - there are many places out there where weight and size are an issue and I much rather be able to bring a camera AND a drone than either/or because I don't have enough room in that dry-bag or backpack.

    You forgot the one most important aspect, at least if you live in Sweden, not sure about rest of the world, with mini you can fly above individual people, with air 2 you must fly more than 150m sideways away from people, that's effectively a 300m diameter circle around the drone where no other person can be, this makes the drone more or less unusable in city environment, or most any place except for forest and countryside. This made me realise that I can't buy air 2.

    Great video and detailed explanation of both drones, thank you. I really want the active track for trips planned in Morocco this year and just wish the Mini had that capability. The Mavic Air would do the job perfectly, but for the limited time I need the active track, the mini 2 seems the better choice for a traveller. That said, before pressing the button to buy the Mini 2, have you herd any news of possibly a new mini 3 or a software upgrade on the Mini 2 for active tracking for 2021?

    • @AirPhotography

It’s not available yet they’re still testing out the original mini but I imagine it will be coming perhaps by spring. I think it all be another year At very least before they were lease a mini three. • @IRequireMedication
      @IRequireMedication 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I look at from the perspective of 'limitations'. I rushed out and bought the original mavic mini when it was first released. It has huge limitations. Transmission is horrible and it breaks up merely 300-400 m away. Underpowered motors, so it cannot handle wind safely. Those are the key limitations. I sold it, took a beating, and picked up the mini 2. This little guy has limitations more closely in line with the top of the line drones (air 2, mavic 2 pro). The original mini is still a very good drone, if you are only using it on perfect weather days, and don't plan on flying it too far away from where you are situated. In terms of a decision between these 2 drones (air 2 and mini 2), it really comes down to how much drone you want or require. The air 2 is by far the superior drone performance wise. Do you need that much? You may need more, so the mavic 2 pro is much better than the air 2. Again, the limitations in terms of flight performance and distance able to travel is not much more in the mavic 2 pro than the mini 2. Both have occusync 2.0. If I find that I want a better camera, I will get the mavic 2 pro or mavic 3 which is right around the corner. I truly believe however, for my purposes, the mini 2 is all the drone that I personally require.

    • @therogue7787
