Just watched you for the first time. Up until now, the best drone I've ever had is the Hubsan h501s x4. This was the perfect video for me. Thanks to you, I'm alao leaning towards the Mavic mini. The final factor in my decision is the weight. I assume that the mini doesn't need to be registered. I've been dying to be able to point the camera up and down as well. I assume they both have that option. I hope that someone can correct me if any of this is wrong. When I get my stimulus check, I've "Finally" decided to go to that next level. To have a gimbal is also a luxury that Ive3 never had. This is really exciting to me. Now I just need to find the best price for the mini. Maybe even a refurbished one. I'm really feeling guilty even considering this purchase, but it's now or never. Thanks for a fantastic review. Liked and subscribed 👍
Great comparison video I have had a GoPro Karma for years. It works well enough but is totally impractical for most outdoor sports I do (hiking, biking, paddling). I think the Mini will do what I want and just slip in to my daypack without even noticing it.
Of all the comparison mavic mini vs mavic air videos I've seen, this is the first mavic mini review where I feel like Chris actually knows what he's talking about in real world applications. Liked and subscribed, can't wait for more drone videos.
Owned the Mavic Air for a solid good two years already. It has traveled the world with me and been through a lot of bashing. From crashes to extreme weather conditions (like making contact with heavy rains and storms) and without fail, it has captured the best moments in my life. Till this day it is still up to date and up to par with the never drones in the market. From this experience I'd say that the Mavic Air has amazed and inspired many people like my family, friends and the people that bump into me flying the Mavic or the videos i post. If you're thinking of getting this now in 2020, you're gonna get a hell of a package! ;) P.s. Excuse my horrible english
Being my first drone purchase, I've narrowed it to these two. For the cost, (in case I crash or lose it), and the fact that it will suit my basic needs as a hobbies or vacation drone, I'm going with the Mini. And no regulations. That's huge
That's exactly what I was thinking too. I'm seriously feeling guilty to even consider getting my first real drone. I'm tired of the $150.00 one's. I'm going to check out ebay and compare prices on a mavic mini refurbished one. If I don't do it now (when my stimulus check arrives) I probably never will. Good luck to ya ..
@@alb.dersame I feel the same. Money is an issue for me or else I'd get the Magic Pro 2. I just want to have fun with it, get some great shots and video, see the world from up high and not have to worry about crashing $1,500 into the water or high up in some tree. After a lot of reviews I think this is the one.
Good review guys. But it's extremely important to stress *(can't emphasis enough)* two important factors that have a huge impact on your flights are; 1. Wind Speed 2. GPS Lock or Signal Strength where the Mavic Air is extremely solid. If your traveling quite a bit I would STRONGLY suggest the Mavic Air over the Mavic Mini because of these two factors alone. If you lose your drone...we'll, the other issues don't matter. I travel frequently with my Mavic Air and can tell you I would NOT risk the Mavic Mini in many of the same conditions which I would feel comfortable putting the Mavic Air up in the air. Great review through! If you want to save a few $$ then the Mavic Mini looks like a good option, but if you have a few extra $$ I would still invest in the Mavic Air over the Mavic Mini every time.
Let's face it - they're both pretty amazing drones. The price and overall capabilities of the Mavic Air makes it a very tempting offer - and bet it's great fun! But think I'll probably play it safe and go for the extra signal strength, obstacle avoidance and wind resistance abilities of the Mavic Air. The speed sounds brilliant too!
I have been obsessing over which, this is the best comparison video I have seen, thanks, kudos. If I can boil it down from my point of view the succinct verdict would be: the Mavic Mini will not disappoint you. Sure, for twice the cost, twice the weight, the Air is a better drone, has more capability. But the Mini has the no regulation avantage, longer flight time, and comparable photo/video. I would mention, with the cost of micro SD cards, no built in storage is moot. Thanks for a great and scenic review Chris.
I have a DJI Spark, have planned to buy a Mavic Air for the spring edge, when I started thinking about a Mavic Air, there was no Mavic Mini on the market. Therefore, this video was good to watch and compare. The time to fly 20 or 30 minutes, does not matter for me, I can not keep the concentration for more than 10 minutes, maybe depends on my age 75 years ... but the distance from me to the drone is important! The noise level doesn't matter at all, MA has 8 GB of internal memory, which is VERY good since I forgot to insert the SD memory twice. That if something is teasing, that's why you fly with the drone to take pictures !!! A good video information that made me feel more confident about making the right decision to buy a Mavic Air. Top good information, big thanks!

Quick question. Can you fly the magic air without using a phone or tablet? I have controller. Just want to grab the drone and go. No worrying about grabbing and hooking everything up. Just zipping around my yard. No long distances or hi heights. Just putzing around the yard. Is is able to fly without attaching a smart phone or iPad?
Don’t make me watch a 11 minute video comparing two drones just to end it in a tie. Plus it’s obvious you planned this when you gave the mini a point for it’s camera even though the air has the better one according to you and DJI
4K does NOT equate better image quality! That is one of the biggest misconceptions. And not this was not planned out. I literally tallied the points as I created the edit.
@@vinny30 On paper you would think the Mavic air would win in video /picture quality but the people who have used both seem to say the mini looks better so must be something in that
J Chit get the mavic mini, people tested it and mavic mini has better range and battery and everything. This video was bad because he probably had cu which is near japan and stuff, if your in North America get the mavic mini
Yeah, I'm in the UK and CE restrictions seem to strangle the mini quite a bit. I decided to get the air (a used one to make to affordable) because where I live is high up and very windy a lot of the time, just decided that the mini might struggle where I live. Loving the air so far
Hey my buddy and I had the same problem with the diagonal black bars going across the screen. It was so annoying. Called DJI and they had us reset camera settings back to factory and format the USB card and the problem on the controller screen went away. It has something to do with modified exposure settings and transporting the drone, at least that is what DJI tech said
I was leaning towards the mini, but does it change anything now that the mavic air is in the high $600 range for the fly more package? Whereas the mini with the same package is $400. $200 difference. Makes it harder to choose since I do want good photos.
I just got mine a few days ago and it does have a bit of option now it seems if you press on auto it gives you some shutter options and such. Must have been a upgrade because when i tap on the auto it says manual
So in the mavic mini you can't fix your shutter speed on 60 and use ND filters to get the correct exposure? Because for the video to be smooth your shutter speed always needs to be twice your frame rate
You got me sold on the mini bro. Affordable for my vlogs until I grow some more., lightweight and compact for my world travels and the quality is amazing for the cost. Mahalo for this video!
Trying to decide between these two...will be learning to fly a drone but also wanting to use it for my business. Was curious what you more experienced people would recommend.
Bro, on the low light shot, how do you do a side by side comparison while showing the lightest part of the frame for the mini and the darkest part of the frame for the air? Do a true side by side where there is dark and light in both.
Video was great in helping me decide to purchase the Mavic Mini but wish you would have mentioned the ActiveTrack ... that is a huge plus for what I want to use it for and I may have got the Air instead.
I think the Mini misses some important features like 360° shots or the "follow subject" option. I think they could be implemented (also 4K and more FPS since its the same cam) but then nobody would buy the Air. Or they update it when they take the Air out of the market. I am currently in Thailand and the Air is almost nowhere available anymore. They say the Air 2 could be released in 2020. So they won´t receive the Mavic Air anymore. In the PoweBuy store, the Air was available for a fantastic discount price of 20.000 Baht, wich makes about 600€. But sold out immediately.
I know this is an older video but hopefully you can still advise. I'm looking at getting my first drone and will be using it for personal use (fun). I have narrowed my choices to either the original Mavic Air or the newer Mavic Mini 2. Please advise. Love your reviews
how about how they fly when reaching max ceiling.... im in CO and it is not uncommon for me to want to shoot something on a mountain that is over 8k feet. how would the mini do when at its max 3000m height.
I really appreciate the review. I currently have a phantom three advanced and love it but I want something I can take on my motorcycle adventures. The only thing stopping me from getting the mini is the fact it does not have active tracking. I was really thinking about getting something so I can hit the trail and have my drone follow me. My phantom three is way too big to take with me. Where I ride my motorcycle is in the middle of the forest so I don’t really care if I have to license it or not. It’s a non-issue for me. it’s going to be used strictly in the deep back woods where I ride my dual sport. I’m still on the fence however DJI now has the Mavic air for $100 more than the mini. That’s almost half price from what it was a few months ago.
Tony Lars , get an evo, don’t waste your money on a drone that won’t let you fly where you want to, DJI has horrible geo fencing built into there drones and it doesn’t work properly. Now that being said , if you live and are always going to fly somewhere your positive this won’t be an issue for you , then I would say any DJI drone will be money well spent . Their drones are tough as nails, I’ve crashed both of mine and was sure they were trashed. But a couple of props and they were flying again minutes later. I say that to be fair, they are great drones when they allow you to take off that is. Just check the airspace you will be flying in before you drop coin on a DJI drone. Good luck to you!
Do they got an GoPro cams that can v attached??...I want to get a drone with a GoPro cam that I can b put in or take out,are these models got those features????
I had a Mavic Air and it got stolen. Then I got a Mavic Mini and it lost connection in the city and plummeted to the ground. I wish the connection was better. I preferred the mini over the air because it was simpler to use for a newbie like me. But no bueno if it cannot be used in suburb cities. Thanks for the video.
Decent video mate. My mavic air got stolen last January while snowboarding in France but I just picked up a new one today. Got it $100 cheaper cuz of clearance. I'll be honest I had no idea the mini existed because I've been out of the drone game for so long but I'm happy I picked up another air. It's a fantastic drone.
Thank you for a great review of these drones.. I was thinking about getting the mini.. but I actually found a used air with t three batteries ..in excellent condition for $400 on Craigslist.. but I don't think the air is worth twice as much as the mini.. I changed the props to master airscrew It's definitely helps with the high-pitched of the stock DJI props.. I've been flying RC for 35 years now.. so this is the first for me for pressing a button and actually having something come back..lol keep up the great videos. ☺️
Great video! For some strange reason when i shoot at 120fps and then put the footage in post it is already slowed down AND sometimes it speed ramps all by it self like i edited it to do that AND today i shot something at 30fps and when i played the footage back its nice slow mo witch makes zero sense at all at 30fps 🤷♂️🤦♂️🤷♂️ I REALLY hope u could shine some light on this b.s Thanx
I have been looking into something like this to get into the real estate business. I think the Mini would be an excellent product for that. Thanks for the info!!
Have to say that I was looking for a second drone that was friendlier for the traveller (I currently have a Phantom2/GoPro combination). The Mavic Air was definitely on the list, but the price was putting me off from committing. As soon as the Mavic Mini made an appearance it became a no brainer. A plus for me here in the UK is that just this month the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) now requrie operators of remote craft weighing more than 250g need to pass a test and pay a fee to register their craft, which obviously I will not need to do for the Mini. Bonus.
I understand that this is probably not the platform on this subject but if you could only afford one drone for the next two years, would you get the zoom or mavic 2 pro?
Love that canyon backdrop. Nice comparison. I feel like the 40mbps is the deal breaker for me, even though it's shooting in 2.7K. The 100mbps on the Mavic Air is very comparable to the P4P, except in low light conditions. I have the Air, thinking about upgrading to the Mavic Pro 2 with the Black Friday sale, but I'm not sure it's really worth the upgrade. Should I wait for spring when they'll probably announce the Mavic Pro 3?
Hello all Drone experts and enthusiasts. Question for you. I've been considering getting the DJI Mavic Air or Pro Platinum edition. I'm quite new to flying but I do need obstacle avoidance on it. After some research, it looks like while platinum pro is a lot quieter and has occusync, it lags on 3 way sensors and apparently the gimbal is not as protected. Can any of you shed your thoughts and opinions on these points?
if you considered the Use market, you can get the mavic air for around $500 with accessories. i bought mine for $475 in great shape and before that i bought a spark with controller and extra accessories for $245 back when it cost around 500. other than registering your drone you might get the best with the air.
wut? Did the mavic mini get some features upgraded by default since this video came out? I bought the drone and it can record in 60FPS 1080p, 30FPS 2K.
Would say the mini drone is good enough to make Dance video's with. I have trouble with a camera perso. So im trying to use the drone for it??? Anyone. Thanks
It's amazing that the Mini can be compared with the Air considering that the air is more than twice the price! As budget was a big deal for me and I wasn't worried to much about 4k, I received my Mini the other day, can't wait to get out in the mountains with it! 😁
Found a local mavic air flymore with total one hour of flight time for 500 CAD never been crashed. Picking it up tomorrow, was going to grab a mavic mini for around the same price new but for an almost new mavic air flymore for the same price I’m elated!!! Also where I am we get pretty horrible winds in the prairies, want a heavier drone to have some more slack.
Hey. Great video. I am a first time drone buying and operator/pilot. I'm considering buying exactly one of these two drones. I think for the cheaper price the Mini would give me a great start, do you agree? Longer flight time and good camera results. The Air is tempting though with avoidance sensors, range and speed and wind ability. Which way would you point me for the money spent!?
This video changed my mind toward drone. This video explained everything very precisely specially difference between two. it is rightly said that Mavic Mini is the ferrari of the sky. its balance of portability, image quality and convenience is praiseworthy. Thanks for exclusive video.
Air, definitely. Simply for the sensors that provide optical avoidance support, and the connectivity. Mavic Mini is getting a beating for the signal drop issue. But if you need to use the drone with FAA clearance and stuff, Mini is probably a better choice

Very nice and compressed review. New sub!
I saw a brand new Mavic Air being sold for $500, should I buy it or get the mini?
Sir I'm new to drones... Which one should I buy in range of 100k PKR.
Northwest Adventures If you want something that tracked you look up the skydio 2
@@CineChopper thanks for the heads up. That Skydio2 is exactly what I’m needing. Thanks again!
Damn, would love either of these, both very impressive drones
Tony Lars both are great, can’t go wrong!
So if I'm just looking to replace my now useless Dobby for selfie drone photos the mini is good enough?
Thank you so much. What a great review. What a specific work. I truly appreciate it. Thank you.
Dana Pollard - Dallas-Fort Worth Real Estate dang! Sorry to hear!
Does the mavic mini do pixel binning to 2.7 to get that image quality ? Or it is just a crop?!
Do I upgrade from the spark?????
Is the dji mavic air good for photography
Decent video mate. My mavic air got stolen last January while snowboarding in France but I just picked up a new one today. Got it $100 cheaper cuz of clearance. I'll be honest I had no idea the mini existed because I've been out of the drone game for so long but I'm happy I picked up another air. It's a fantastic drone.
Which one do you like better
mavic air is good at active track because of its APAS
Thank you for a great review of these drones.. I was thinking about getting the mini.. but I actually found a used air with t three batteries ..in excellent condition for $400 on Craigslist.. but I don't think the air is worth twice as much as the mini.. I changed the props to master airscrew
It's definitely helps with the high-pitched of the stock DJI props.. I've been flying RC for 35 years now.. so this is the first for me for pressing a button and actually having something come back..lol keep up the great videos. ☺️
and? how do you like the air so far? be honest
Yes the mavic mini is excellent for realestate!
Bonus.
Awesome, yes it's is a pretty sweet drone!
I understand that this is probably not the platform on this subject but if you could only afford one drone for the next two years, would you get the zoom or mavic 2 pro?
Quick question I’m looking for a drone that follows me during my MTB trail ride what you guys recommend thanks
Mavic Mini can´t follow you, but air can.
Appreciate you making this video! Just started looking into drones and learning about them - you make this stuff very easy to follow man!
Good! glad I can help :)
Big Iris Productions can’t go wrong with mavic :2 pro!
Wow best comparison ive seen on youtube
Very Surprised at the results. Very professional and practical evaluation, thanks!
hello, can mavic air be charged from an external battery as mavic mini does?
Hello all Drone experts and enthusiasts. Question for you. I've been considering getting the DJI Mavic Air or Pro Platinum edition. I'm quite new to flying but I do need obstacle avoidance on it. After some research, it looks like while platinum pro is a lot quieter and has occusync, it lags on 3 way sensors and apparently the gimbal is not as protected. Can any of you shed your thoughts and opinions on these points?
So the big question stays, 4K vs 2.7K wich is better....?
Great compassion!!! I got some people that may have these questions. I’ll forward this video to them. Thanks Chris!!! 🙏🏽
Larsco FPV awesome! 🤘
Can you compare Mantis Q and Mavic Mini
if you considered the Use market, you can get the mavic air for around $500 with accessories. i bought mine for $475 in great shape and before that i bought a spark with controller and extra accessories for $245 back when it cost around 500. other than registering your drone you might get the best with the air.
Anyone. Thanks
I found a mavic air fly more in like new condition for $500... Would you go for a like new Mavic air or a $500 sealed mavic mini?
Crazy test, what is the price? For this and this?
It's amazing that the Mini can be compared with the Air considering that the air is more than twice the price!
As budget was a big deal for me and I wasn't worried to much about 4k, I received my Mini the other day, can't wait to get out in the mountains with it! 😁
Overland Adventurers Do it!
Great video! Subbed. How high can the mini fly?
Seriously awesome video, keep it up! Is the mini fcc or ce?
Thanks! I think it switches form fcc or ce automatically depending on your location.
How about miji 2 vs mavic air?
yeah, I'm getting one of this for my little brother this Christmas. Thanks for the helpful review.
No problem Jack!
It's May 2020, the Mini is still $499 but the Air is now $699. Would you buy the Air over the Mini now that the price has dropped?
Sold my Mini for the air. Best decision ever.
This guy surely put in serious effort. Detailed and fluent. I prefer mavic mini
Thanks Fazlay!
Quick shot no boomerang mention. Never mentioned about no panaroma on mini.
Want to revisit the review?
I'm a little confused on the camera and video stills and how the point went to the mini...To me the air looked much more crisp.
Did u take the photos in RAW with the Mavic Air confronting them with the mini’s ones?
Yes, at minute 5:21 :)
This video changed my mind toward drone. This video explained everything very precisely specially difference between two. it is rightly said that Mavic Mini is the ferrari of the sky. its balance of portability, image quality and convenience is praiseworthy. Thanks for exclusive video.
He said the Mavic AIR was the Ferrari, which it is. The Mavic Air is way faster, more powerful and handles better.
Quite sure mavic mini is way slower than air
I'm now trying to decide between a 2nd hand Mavic Air or a new Mavic mini because they're similar prices here. Tough one
Air, definitely. Simply for the sensors that provide optical avoidance support, and the connectivity. Mavic Mini is getting a beating for the signal drop issue. But if you need to use the drone with FAA clearance and stuff, Mini is probably a better choice
@@vaidehiarts Thanks! Might go with the air then.
Thanks for taking the time to make such a detailed video! Just purchased the mavic mini and cant wait to get it out in the skies!
Vielen Dank:)
If Combo price difference between Mini and Air is $200 US. Which Drone should be my first?
