Come back in 2024 if you like the parks. There’s a huge project that is in progress now where they relocate Jurong Bird Park to Mandai together with River Wonders, Zoo, Night Safari. Additionally, a new park ‘Rainforest Wild Park’ and a eco resort will be added creating this massive eco tourism hub. Anyway, good content and nice video editing! Watched every of your episodes so far and enjoyed it. 👍
Wow, that's going to be quite the complex!! 😲😲 It will be fun to have something new to visit when it's done (and we come back). And thanks for watching our videos!!
I'm so excited about the project grouping the parks nearby one another ( probably also freeing Jurong for development ) so visitors head to the same area. How about the crocodiles? Have they gone there already ?
Hi guys! Not sure if this is it, but the smell you're describing might be from the flowers of the Devil Tree (Alstonia Scholaris). They are found islandwide, most planted, some wild. Definitely can be found at the Bird Park and Botanical Gardens. Its a heady scent, like a very strong vanilla, or spiced rum, slightly acrid, smokey and nutty like burnt sugar, so maybe that's where the coffee or caramel notes you're picking up come from.
Actually, there is a Cadbury chocolate factory not too far from where the Park is, about 1.5km away. We catch a whiff of that cacao so very often. Signature smell of Jurong Bird Park!
Bird park has been relocated to its new home, and is now called bird paradise. All the birds are no longer kept in cages but in 8 different free flying huge aviary. Its gonna be opened on 8th May this year. Go check it out! The aviaries are just beautiful!
Bring your binoculars! Get UV protection (hats, caps, etc.) and keep yourself hydrated to have an enjoyable trip. Better to visit in the morning when the birds are active.
The waterfall is kinda "duplicated" from the one in original location in Jurong. It was the tallest man-made waterfall in the world for decades, until the Changi Airport's Jewel vortex took the crown. The current one in the bird park, looks similar in height with the original, probably around 30m. Glad you guys enjoyed the 4 parks! 👍🏼
Hey! Lived in Jurong all my life. Not sure what scent you were picking up but there's a Cadbury chocolate factory nearby and it's pretty common to be smelling cocoa powder in Jurong!
The birds and Bird Park are so natural and beautiful. Should be a must visit attraction besides the zoo. You have captured everything so well fantastic presentation!!
Thanks for the lovely videos on various attractions in SG! Lazy me can enjoy the sights and sounds from home! Lol. I haven't been to these zoos lately but i used to travel to Boon Lay mrt station and there was a strong smell of monkfruit in the air. I don't consider it nutty but slightly sweet smelling.
The waterfall at the JBP was the tallest artificial waterfall at 30m, it was superceded by the waterfall at the Cloud Forest in Gardens by the Bay at 35m which was then superceded by the waterfall in Changi Jewel at 40m high. As it stands the waterfall at Changi Jewel is the world's tallest artificial indoor waterfall, though efforts are being made to build an even taller artificial waterfall somewhere in China, though that is supposed to be the tallest outdoor waterfall as it was supposed to cascade down the outside of a building. As for that nutty smell you were talking about, it sounds like wood chip fertilizer that is commonly used in Singapore. The new Bird Park, which will shift from Jurong to Mandai, is slated to be almost twice the size of the current Bird Park. Originally slated to open in 2020 its construction has been delayed due to Covid, so do come back and visit when it opens. PS what most ppl in Singapore do not remember/realize, is that the JBP was placed where it was, to convince Singaporeans that the west side of Singapore, where most of the industrial areas are, was safe to live in. Like birds in coal mines, it was believed the birds with their lower lung capacity would be the first to be affected should the air quality there be considered 'bad'. So if birds could live in the Jurong area, so too could humans. Over the years the Bird Park has evolved to become a rescue and rehabilitation centre for birds.
Wow, you are a wealth of info!! The last part about why it was built where it is today, is fascinating. Plus it sounds like we've seen the 3 tallest waterfalls in Singapore? I'm not convinced on the wood chips though! I smelled it in many places, but not everywhere. One of the places I smelled it was on the boardwalk on Eco-Lake, and I don't think there were wood chips near that? Thanks for all the insight!!
@@TalesFromOurPocket If you smelled it on the board walk it might be the wood itself that is releasing the smell. However they do have a very very distinct fragrance and it does travel far. @@TalesFromOurPocket you’re very much welcome! the plant with strong scent most likely is the pandan. it have a very strong fragrance and is widely used in South East Asia cuisines. pandan juice also give the beautiful green colour in some food, example the green coconut rice in nasi lemak, the yummy green pandan chiffon cake, the green noodle in chendol etc.
I think (I might be wrong tho) the one with the ramen smell is a Gomphrena plant (upon research) whilst the one with the nutty smell might be benzoin or as the malays call it 'kemenyan'. Loved your vlogs to the zoo thus far!
I'm pretty sure it was one plant or tree creating the scent and not two different ones. I'm not ruling out the Benzoin / Kemenyan! That *might* have been what I smelled...
We're not sure! Neither of us recall seeing a sign saying tripods aren't allowed, but we weren't looking for one, either. You could try contacting them directly - I'm sure they answer. 😊
Hi! I've been there with my tripod set up. With a few other photography friends. No one said anything, not even the park crew. I assume it is alright. But apply due diligence in small paths/areas (e.g. at the lory loft) to avoid inconvenience for other park goers. Best to go during weekdays or off peak periods for a more enjoyable photography experience.

@@TalesFromOurPocket Researchers have ferreted out why the binturong, a threatened Southeast Asian mammal also known as the bearcat, smells like popcorn. The culprit is 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline, or 2-AP, the same molecule that gives cooked popcorn its aroma.
Yes, I see that the largest bird sanctuary is in India (wow!), but Jurong is the largest bird "park" in Asia (the largest bird "park" in the world is in Germany; Jurong is 2nd largest). Now, what's the difference between the two? No idea. I did Google it though! 😊

I'm pretty sure it was one plant or tree creating the scent and not two different ones. I'm not ruling out the Benzoin / Kemenyan! That *might* have been what I smelled...
Hi Guys , your video is amazing and very informative. I have a question, is tripod allowed in this park or not ??
We're not sure! Neither of us recall seeing a sign saying tripods aren't allowed, but we weren't looking for one, either. You could try contacting them directly - I'm sure they answer. 😊
Hi! I've been there with my tripod set up. With a few other photography friends. No one said anything, not even the park crew. I assume it is alright. But apply due diligence in small paths/areas (e.g. at the lory loft) to avoid inconvenience for other park goers. Best to go during weekdays or off peak periods for a more enjoyable photography experience.
It be really really weird if you go to the bird park and then have KFC for lunch.
Thumbs up for staying vegetarian, at least during your time there.
😂😂😂 I admit we didn't think of it that way, but now that you point it out... 😂
Another good vlog! 👍👏
Thank you!!
Haha our Bird Park will be moving to Mandai soon :)
Can you imagine what an undertaking that must be?!?
Beauuuutiful
We agree!!

Thank you!!
Loved this vlog ❤️
Thank you!!

🐦 🐥🐤☺️☺️
u make me want to visit the bird park again. hahaha.
Hahaha, you should visit again before it moves!! 😊
That smell probably comes from the Cadbury factory nearby lol
Hahaha, we also smelled it at the Botanic Gardens!
jurong bird park is moving to mandai renamed bird paradise
Gosh, you guys, this was a good one! That waterfall is beautiful 😍
Also, side note: your color grading game is on-point! Really makes the leafy scenes look so much better 🙂
🎉🎉 Bill has been feeling really good about his color grading lately so he says thanks! The waterfall inside an aviary was soooo unexpected. 😂
Yes they rescued penguins in singapore ….
🐧 Penguins are so cute!
Sorry about the smell...had baked beans last night
I mean, it smelled really good? 🤷♀️
Let's Go!! 🦤🦅🦆🐧🦩🦚🦜🐓
🥳🎉🥳
The world's largest bird park is in India... Pleas Google it..
Yes, I see that the largest bird sanctuary is in India (wow!), but Jurong is the largest bird "park" in Asia (the largest bird "park" in the world is in Germany; Jurong is 2nd largest). Now, what's the difference between the two? No idea. I did Google it though! 😊
Birds are descendants of some dinos....
True. Cue even more Jurassic Park vibes, then!!
I am from London. You should visit Malaysia Bird Park too. It is amazing, the birds can be walking side by side with you. The bird park in Malaysia more interesting and super big park. 😀
Thanks for the recommendation! I've added it to our list of places to visit. 😊
You didn't watch the whole video did you? 😒
Largest bird park, zoo is outside those cages... Amazon rain forest.
Worked in JBP when I was young, a long long time ago. I think what u may have smelled was chocolate? Jurong is an industrial estate with many production factories. I may be wrong but I believe it may be from a chocolate factory nearby??? 🤷♂️
Hmmm, we smelled it in the Botanic Gardens, too! This is such a mystery! 😂😂😂 I guess it maybe could have been chocolate? Like nutty, coffee smelling chocolate. Now I want some chocolate... 😀
Wait till they move to Mandai, the park will look even more amazing.
We'll have to come back!! 😊
