    Review from someone who uses game cameras regularly
    This camera offers exceptional value at the current price of £69.99 since it is very easy to use, takes great pictures and is fully weatherproof.
    I have been testing the Powerextra camera for the last 3-4 weeks in various situations (in all weather) and the quality of photos is certainly comparable to my more expensive Bushnell 14mp cameras - see pictures associated with this review.
    Video quality is fine but not exceptional (certainly not 1080p) and taking the price into account that is OK - if video quality was a true 1080p the memory card would fill up very fast so I'm cool with a reduction in resolution there as a trade off for more recorded footage.
    During initial testing I used extremely cheap generic 8 x AA batteries to ascertain what a 'worst case scenario' would be for battery life and I wanted to determine how many photos (8mp) and videos (between 20s and 30s at '1080p') it would record before the batteries died.
    I set the camera to take 2 x photos then 1 x short video when sensor was triggered and it recorded well over 800 photos and around 400 short video clips - it was still working even when the battery indicator was showing that it was almost out of power. Very economical.
    Using Amazon's 5 star rating system I would rate the camera as follows:
    Price (at £69.99) - 5
    Construction Quality - 5
    Features - 5
    Ease of Use - 5
    Battery Life - 5
    Picture Quality - 5
    Video Quality - 3
    Trigger Speed - 5
    Glow When Triggered (or lack of glow) - 5
    Final Rating - 5/5
    It may seem a bit harsh to mark the video quality as a 3/5 but the manufacturer states it is 1080p and playback would suggest that it is nearer 720p at best - still more than acceptable, especially compared to similar cameras in this price range which can have terrible video quality.
    Even my 14mp Bushnell cameras which cost close to £200 don't seem to record in full 1080p.
    This camera has all the features which make it an easy one to recommend to anyone interested in buying a really good camera at a price which doesn't break the bank and while it is perfect for people like me who regularly set game cameras all over the countryside it would be equally useful to a total beginner due to the easy interface and strong performance.
    Would I choose this over my expensive Bushnell cameras?
    Yes, since I can buy 3 of these cameras for the price of one 14mp No-Glow Bushnell and that means I can get way more wildlife footage.
    Thanks for reading / watching - you will not be disappointed if you buy this camera.

      Groovy, really the only thing which lets it down a bit is the video quality but unless you're going to spend close to £200 on a Bushnell this is about as good as it gets - certainly better than many other cameras in the sub-£100 range I've seen.
      I'd definitely recommend it and as I add more cameras to my arsenal I'll happily buy more of these as they represent excellent value.

    Your Trout are getting big Richard! That one feeding off the top at the start of your video was a belter! I think I'll treat myself to a game cam. My new house where we've moved backs onto a field and there were seven deer in it this morning! The neighbour said they're always kicking about! I'd love to get a few close shots of them. There's also the owl that walks across my roof every night like it's wearing steel clogs! I know they're silent when in flight but it gives itself away walking on my roof! I need the game cam to confirm it is an owl and not 'Q the winged serpent'!!

    • @pondguru
      @pondguru  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Q the winged serpent? now there's a classic blast from the past. I love that film as it is pure cheese.
      Yeah, man you'd love using a game cam to capture the wildlife around your new place. There's a nation of deer around at present.

    5:37 minutes is a photo?

    Hi Richard, Just loved this video,what great shots youve got. I have one of these cameras and left it out in my field when it got really cold and when I bought it in all the shots and videos had turned a negative green colour. Ive had it sometime and cant find out where I bought it from online. And I cant seem to find anywhere that can repair it. All camera shops say send it back to manufacturer .
    But as i said I cant remember who it was. Have you had any probs with yours in the cold ?
    Your pond is really nice as well.
    regards Duncan.

    • @pondguru
      @pondguru  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No all mine worked fine in the really cold weather we had and I've still got to edit a video down from a few weeks ago where it was exceptionally cold.
      Have you tried a different memory card? the card could be corrupted?

      I followed your setup but our camera is not exactly as yours. I turned the TIMER off so hopefully that will fix the problem.

    • @pondguru
      @pondguru  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it was set to take random pictures then it could very quickly fill a card up, also the interval between triggering could have been low / sensitivity high? which would result in a nation of pictures / videos.
      I tend to set it with a short recovery time between triggers so that I get multiple pictures / videos of anything interesting but that can result in lots of wasted pictures and videos.

  • @garyhuston

    Hi mate, any idea where else these can be bought? Amazon are out of stock and not expecting any in. I have mailed the company but no reply yet. I really need to update my old bushnell!

    • @pondguru
      @pondguru  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a major bummer since it is a really great camera and it is very rare to get a true no-glow game cam in this price range - I have checked Amazon.com and they do not ship to UK for that camera, UK Amazon is indeed sold out.
      However there are a few listings on ebay.co.uk but they are closer to £90 which is still a good price considering it is no-glow. This one is an auction listing from same seller ending tomorrow so you may get it cheaper here: goo.gl/Liw5Vp
      Hope that helps - having no-glow really makes a difference, especially when the target species are mammals since birds don't seem to mind one way or another and humans can see a low-glow camera in the dark (some more than others) so theft of a no-glow camera is much less likely.
      Best of luck with the search.

    • @garyhuston
      @garyhuston 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pondguru thanks for that, I’ll have a go at that one I think. They seem to go by several names, this one says powerextra at the top and further down referred to as Apeman! I think like a lot of these Chinese products they are mass produced then labelled for different companies. Thanks again..

    • @pondguru
      @pondguru  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes there are few differences between them, sometimes the battery compartment is altered, the interface buttons are changed, a few different options in settings but generally when you turn the unit to 'set up' the title picture is the same, lol

    I HAVE A VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION every camera has a delay time between triggers otherwise one trigger would set the camera off to take pictures until the SD card is full or batteries die. So the question is what is the delay time ?

    • @pondguru
      @pondguru  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trigger speed is 0.2 seconds but the reset time between triggers (of 2 x photos and 1 x video clip which is how I had it set) seems to be approx. 5 -10 seconds judging by the slight jumps in pieces of footage with animals in but when I had it set in a bush during windy weather it took a nation of pictures / videos of falling leaves and nothing in particular (due to the wind) and when it was triggered frequently the video footage was reduced from 20 seconds to 5 seconds - that may be a built in feature to save battery life and card space.
      There is no option to alter the reset time in settings.

    what you recommend with a better video quality but around a similar price? mr guru sir :)

    • @pondguru
      @pondguru  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have only really had hands on experience with the Powerextra 12mp cam in this video and the identical Victsing 12mp cam and they are both very good. Even my expensive Bushnell cameras don't record video which is a lot better but I have seen many of the cheaper cameras (under £100) which have awful video and really poor options and features.
      From what I've used I'd say for the best video quality go for the upper end of Bushnells but for best value the Powerextra / Victsing cams are excellent. There is really very little difference between them and I only gave the video quality 3/5 as it stated it was a true 1080. Even the expensive Bushnells would be lucky to get a 4/5 as quality is still nowhere near a good HD camcorder.
      Problem is you can't sit in a bush for 6 months holding a HD camcorder waiting for the target animal to pass, lol

      Groovy - great to hear that the pond is still going well and there are so many game cams out now that 80% of components are probably the same. Yours has different design and sensor but menu and guts are likely very similar.

    • @pondguru
      @pondguru  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds feasible as the quality of pictures and video is more or less constant between the ones I have and most are sub-£100. Only the 14mp Bushnells I use have much better quality footage but they cost double or triple some of these cheaper cams.
