  • These are new foams I've had specially made to my specifications and they can be found on my website: www.filterpro.co.uk (foams page).
    Dimensions are 17" x 11" x 2" (432mm x 280mm x 50mm) and they have a very deep profile of approx. 1.5" (38mm) - I may have got the height of profile wrong in the video caption (I think it says 32mm).
    I also have the foams listed on ebay - just search for 'mega foams' or the seller 'Filter Man UK' and they will come up. Failing that search for 'Biohome Ultimate' and my listings will come up.
    Please note: these are not acoustic or furniture foams - they are aquatic foams which are not treated with a flame retardant. A chemical flame retardant will do your aquatic system no good.
    Ebay will add some crazy taxes and high international shipping prices if you're outside the UK which is why I always advise buying directly through the FilterPro site if you are not in the UK.
    Check out this post from my 'community' page on my TH-cam channel - it has some excellent reports about how well the Biohome works towards a full cycle: / @pondguru
    What makes this extra special is that I didn't ask for people using Biohome to post their reports in the comment section, they just did - and that is really awesome since I have an advertising budget of £0 and will never pay for 'reviews' or any sort of promotion online.
    Thanks to everyone who posted there and feel free to share that post to anyone wondering if Biohome works. It does.

    Those foam pads are essential for any aquarium filter. Highly recommend. The Pond Guru is the G.O.A.T when it comes to anything Aquarium. I purchased 4 pounds of his Bio Home Ultimate media over 8 year ago, they've held up and look as if I purchased them yesterday. That's the quality this man puts into all his products. Thanks again Mr. Guru. Keep Grinding out these Great Products. Many Blessings Brother.

      Same here. Had my foams and biohome for at least 6-7 years now. Except for a little left over Eheim biomech that came with some of my filters that’s the only media I run in my 8 tanks

    • @pondguru
      @pondguru  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@kjetilmedhus7363 That sounds awesome to me and it's exactly what I want to hear. There is no need to change foams until they fall apart and no need to change filter media every 6 months (which most of the main manufacturers advise) - that is ridiculous. Filter media should almost last for ever and with the Biohome you just need to bake it in a hot oven for 45-60 minutes of you think it's lost some efficiency (after 6-10 years) to burn off organic matter and re-open passages but most people don't bother 'fixing' something which isn't broken.
      It's great to get your feedback so thanks for that. Most people don't bother to comment one way or the other.

    • @pondguru
      @pondguru  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, seeing what passes for sump foams was the main reason why I decided to have these foams specially made to my specifications and it was very important to ensure that they were not just repackages audio foams which I've seen used many times online.
      I'm sure it is a mystery as to why the fish have all died when someone uses acoustic or furniture foams and I'm sure the fish shop will get the blame for 'dodgy fish', lol
      I will never sell anything which is pointless and doesn't make a difference to a filter or tank as I have an active conscience which I regularly converse with and all I can do is endeavor to make the right decisions with 'monetary gain' being at the bottom of the list of what I want to achieve.
      The ridiculous thing is that on the very day I rejected money everything changed in my favor but that is a (long) story for another day, probably on my Thousand Yard Stare channel - I've got a nation of video titles planned for that channel which are snippets of a life journey - most of them involve making life decisions since every time we arrive at a crossroads it's a test.
      Unfortunately most people don't see the tests which we are all subjected to.
      As an example, a couple of weeks ago I parked at a supermarket and found a clear bag with £150 cash in it.
      99% of people would just keep the money but I always get whatever I find (which is a lot) back to the original owners if I can.
      The clear bag had a sticker on the back with a plumbers phone number on it so I phoned the number and asked questions relating to his whereabouts over the last few days. I was a bit suspicious about his answers but to be fair to the guy he realized it wasn't his money, phoned his accountant and found out that the £300 he gave her in cash had been lost after she paid someone £150 and visited the supermarket so I gave her my address and she collected the cash later that day.
      That's karma in the bank for me and her faith in humanity has been hopefully restored. It's good on all levels and that morning (before I found the money) I'd had unexpected bills which were more than I had in my current account so I really needed money (don't we all?).
      There were 2 tests there. The first was as soon as I noticed the bag (and was gutted that someone had lost so much money with a plan formulating to get it back to whoever had lost it) and the second more important one was when I saw the plumbers number on the sticker which was on the back of the bag - it was like 'OK you passed the first test, what about this one?'
      Anyway, that has nothing to do with aquarium foams, lol

    Dear Richard, being cheeky here, you reviewed an aquarium trickle filter (clear boxes above tank). I can't find that product from the links. From watching your videos for Decades I appreciate the importance of Air +Filter Media for The Oxidative part of N2 Cycle. I have your Biohome Ultra for hopefully Anaerobic side, to go in trickle filter. Also liked the Chinese price of £20.

    • @pondguru
      @pondguru  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The overhead filter is only £20? that seems like a very good price.
      As long as you're using enough media and a conditioner which doesn't starve the bacteria of food by messing with the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate all will be good.

    • @pondguru
      @pondguru  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They may be too thick for HOB filters as each foam is almost 2" thick - ideally you'd want to go for at least a coarse then medium pad - that would take up 4" of the available space with the new thick pads which is OK in a big canister filter or sump but eats into the available space for biological media in a HOB filter. I'd say go with the standard bumpy coarse and medium foams if the only filter you're running is a HOB.

      I got quite a few in with the first delivery but I sold the majority of them to a trout farm so I don't have many left. More on order but that could be 6 weeks away.
      Currently I've only got about 20 of coarse and medium left. so when they're gone there will be a a few weeks until new stock arrives. The last ones took ages to arrive and it's from a UK company.

    Hey up Richard very big fan, have purchased many time's from your self's I'm wanting the new MEGA foams in one of my spare backup filters the fx6 fluval to replace the pimp version setup with the blue and black foams.
    Quick question before purchasing: Would you use the green foams from top to bottom like the demo you showed in this vidoe.
    Thank you

    • @pondguru
      @pondguru  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Probably yes, I think the coarse foams are a bit too coarse to be the only foam around the FX trays. The medium (green) foams are a good PPI (around 30) so they will catch enough muck before the water heads down through the fine pad in the top tray and the media in the tray.

    So, say Im replacing the stock foams in a FX6 and want to use these instead. The old "pimp my filter" way was to merge a coarse and medium.....do I now just use a mega-coarse? haha

    • @pondguru
      @pondguru  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This is simply another option, cheaper than the official Fluval foams but feel free to mix the pads.
      I'm definitely a fan of the coarse and medium pads being put together to grade out the muck but if I was pushed I'd probably say that the ideal set up would be to have the medium or cparse density 'mega' foams in the bottom tray outer area and have the upper tray(s) with the coarse and medium sandwich of normal foams.
      It's something people can just experiment with and see what works best for them. Many people go with graded foams in the top tray and have no filter media in the top tray. For them having coarse foams all round the trays would probably be the best option but if you're going with my original recommended set up then it leaves more room for filter media.
      That's exactly why I sell the foams separately now as it gives people the chance to experiment with various set ups and find what works best for their tank and stock scenario.

  • @markiemark1869
    @markiemark1869 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I think i will be getting some of these for my fx4, i got your thiner ones (coarse & medium) in there at the mo. Would you just use medium with the bigger foams in the fx4, ..👍

    • @pondguru
      @pondguru  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      To be honest I'd still recommend using the dual coarse and medium foams for the FX4 since there are only 2 trays but if you upgraded to a FX6 the bottom tray could be coarse or medium followed by the top tray being the dual foams - giving people the choice to mix it up is why I listed everything separately on the website now.
      There are so many stocking options for a tank I'd rather just leave it up to the fish keepers to work out the best mix of foams for their tank.
      Since the thick foams have such a huge initial contact surface area area using that in the bottom tray will allow the heavy muck to be caught before it is swept up into the upper parts of the filter but the most effective set up of any FX4,5,6 filter will be dictated by the stock in the tank.
      Every tank is different so there is no fixed answer to 'which foams should I use' unfortunately. It is a matter of experimentation so I just want to offer as many different options as possible to make that happen.

    YES PLEASE!!!!!
    IDK Why the pond foams in the US are .75" thick. Not even 1". It's really, really thin and I wish they were 1.5-2" thickness. (Meaning that the part without bumps is min 1" thick or 1.5" thick)

    • @pondguru
      @pondguru  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The part without bumps is probably between 1/2" to 3/4" as I went for maximum profile to ensure that the cavities formed between foams when they are stacked would settle out the maximum amount of detritus.
      The initial contact surface area is ridiculous on these foams compared to normal foams, lol

      On the Hypermax 4500 video I did a while back I used the ordinary thickness foams and that was no problem for the filter tray height so I'd say just go with them. There are only a few canister filters which are big enough for the thick foams with the big 'bucket' type filters (with no trays) being a good example e.g. Eheim 1500XL.

      The actual PPI of foams is not important - as long as you go from the coarser grade to a medium grade to a finer grade it's all good. In the UK we generally don't use PPI ratings since there is no need.
      However, for the benefit of people outside the UK the coarse would be between 10ppi - 15ppi, medium would be 30ppi-35ppi and the fine would simply be the white floss / fine particle matting / polishing pad. All of those foams / pads would be before the filter media to keep it clean and effective for many years.

    Ship to United States?

      I ship all over the world and you can check shipping costs by adding whatever you want to the basket, going to basket then hitting 'estimate shipping costs' with no obligation to continue to checkout - just remember to empty the basket if you decide not to buy and you'll avoid the email which gets sent after 48hrs with the 'you left something in your basket' message.
      Hope that makes sense.

    Dam, why did I buy new pond foams last month 😮😢

      @pondguru  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      To be fair I've had these foams for a couple of months now but it takes me ages to get around to listing anything online.
      I sold the majority of them to a trout farm so I don't have many left. More on order but that could be 6 weeks away.
      Currently I've only got about 20 of coarse and medium left.

      @@pondguru oh well, I know where to come when they need replacing

      @@iangrice329 I'm going to chase them up next week since it's been a few weeks since I made the last order. Because they are a bespoke product they take an age to supply which is a real bummer.

    Any recommendations for a good filter for a turtle. Have a flat bed tartarium and running a Fluval U2 but gets clogged after a week?
