I'm so torn. I do like the sound of both but when you turn away the mic you see that the pro has better audio quality, like you said, more fuller and in my country its a good $20 cheaper for the pro version than the original which is ironic.
Yup I seen your video I believe like 2 or 3 years ago you made me make the right decision I bought the( movo vxrpro ) still now March 29-2023 this mic works great and works flawless for my needs.
Thank you for the review. Personally I prefer the sound coming from the original VXR10 over the Pro. I am thankful for that because I own the original VXR10 mic basically due to your previous videos about it's performance. I got the VXR10 for $10 less than what the Pro is priced at but maybe that's unusual. Again, great videos and thanks for the detailed review!
Took a lot of replays from your two videos on it but I’d have to go with the pro. Like you said the VXR10 does have that deeper range but the Pro just sounds cleaner and more natural. I feel like I could just use that without even editing the audio if I wanted to
Problem with the wind noise test is the camera's AGC (I presume) keeps cutting the volume right down because the low rumble is still making it through. You can improve that in post, or you might have been able to, except the levels are all over the place due to that AGC.
I like the MOVO VXR10 Pro for my voice for the same reason I like the Shure Beta 58a for my voice. I'm a baritone with a booming voice and both of those mics tame the low end. I don't have to EQ, just plug in and go for a smooth midrange. Match the mic to your voice or the application at hand. Thanks for the review.
So except for the better shockmount, why should one by the Pro version when the older one sounds great (and fuller)? I own and like the older one (thanks for being the first to turn me onto it!). Yes, it‘s a bit muddy in the bass, but that is great from a distance, indoors, especially when playing acoustic guitar and singing. Can‘t see what the Pro version might have to offer me. Your review compares the two, but you seem to be leaning towards recommending the new one?
Great question Scott. It's hard to compare them, they're such completely different mics. If I were booming for vlogging, especially with a phone, I'd go for the Pro. Crisp and detailed. But from a distance further than about 18" probably the original, for the reasons you stated. The new Pro really thins out after 2'.
Audio for Content Creators Thanks for your insight on this. As a home filmer also into recording music, I think I‘ll forego getting the Pro and stick with the original. Also sometimes using the AVerMedia Live Streamer Mic 133 instead of the Movo, together with a Rode Wireless Go for up-close vocals (with the two signals running into a DXA Micro Pro in stereo mode). Just getting started with this, so haven‘t yet got an opinion on whether the AVerMedia or the Movo will end up being my go-to boom mic. Will first need to experiment with distances and how post-processing works with each. The AVerMedia has a far better mount, though. Sure wish I could get the Pro‘s much more stable mount for use with my old Movo. Might approach Movo about that.
@@scottbecker3485 Any particular reason you're opting for on-camera shotgun mics as opposed to pro grade XLR mics and an interface, for recording music?
Audio for Content Creators Your very astute question is appreciated. The answer is that the music is going to only be one element of „normal“ TH-cam videos. So talking bits plus an occasional „live“ song that fits the topic at hand. And I figure it would be too obtrusive to have visible studio mics between me and the audience. So the boom mic will be aimed lower down, more at the guitar, and the Rode will more pick up the talking and singing. I will then mix the two signals to get a good balance during the songs (and maybe also include some of the boom mic signal on the talking bits). All this of course subject to trial, error and possible changes. I should add that I chose to build my set-up around small, easy-to-carry components so I can also easily carry everything for occasional outdoor videos. (Filming, by the way, with my iPhone XR, both indoors and out). And I figured it makes sense to film and audio record everything with one and the same set-up so I don‘t have to keep changing settings or end up needing to post-edit things too much so my videos all have a similar look-and-feel. I‘m super well equipped with dynamic and condenser mics, include a large-diaphragm condenser, and I also have an old and wonderful RME Babyface as an interface, so that will be my Plan B. Also curious to see how my old Sennheiser MD 441 might work out from a distance. It‘s just that those set-ups take up a lot more space at home and need to be put away and brought back out each time I need them. We‘ll see if my quick-and-dirty approach will pan out in the end. ;-) Thanks again for the great input, also in many other of your videos I‘ve enjoyed learning from!
@@scottbecker3485 That makes sense! I should do an update video on using these mics for YT singer/songwriter setups like you describe here. The original VXR10 does a great job for the price on acoustic guitar and vocals, when capturing with one mic for a YT video.
I know you’re a huge Movo fan and I bought two of them from your reviews. They’re great, however I discovered that the VideoMic Me-L from Rode with a lightning extension cable does the absolute best for me. Something about the lightning cable does so much better than the audio cable extensions I’ve been using. Interesting stuff
When you added the sub 200 Hz back in, it sounded like you picked up a bit of extra noise from the room, or maybe from the camera's preamp. so personally, i like the low cut sound as is. your voice still had plenty of warmth and little noise, especially for the mic being camera mounted. well done! also bummed that the headphone jack not being able to monitor. but it's still a decent feature.
Definitely picked up some room noise. That's really the difference between adding in information that was captured super low, and actually capturing it properly in the first place. Thanks for watching!
When it was available in Europe is bought 2 of them cause I was so excited. Unfortunately I most returned both, why: Move has made an patent on the used stereo and iPhone connection stereo or as you want the mono cables that comes with it. I remember used the competition cables and non of them worked with the upgrade version. Even where there issues with the headphone jack. I was not able to monitoring the sound connected the stereo cable TRS to the camcorder Panasonic HDC-SD90. I own a lot of Rode and competing cables for iPhone and camera, camcorders but again, to use the VXR10 pro is working only properly the cables that comes with it. The sound hasn’t the full stronger quality as the previous version. The previous version is good when the whether is normal but when freezing temperatures the move has issues to working well. Electric interferences while using external monitor and Mirascreen, I remember also an slightly tik, tik noise. Of course was I satisfied when the first generation Movo is used without all the accessories and just when it was only connected to the camcorder or iPhone which given in fact an louder thicker sound then every other competition shotgun. To noticed, the earlier Movo shotgun has not that patented cables, any other competition cable works but again, that is changed with the so called the upgrade version. The Movo's original advantage over the competition has been lost with this upgrade. I didn't foresee it but really, both microphones have been sent back to sender.
Everyone in the reviews seemed to also think that the headphone jack allowed them to do live monitoring. The marketing was a little misleading. Still a great video.
The headphone jack merely splits out the headphone channels from the TRRS plug so it'll take whatever is playing out through the headphones from your host device. There would be no way to do what you would expect unless the mic had active circuitry in it for amplifying the mic signal and so on. It's really just acting the same way as a TRRS to 2xTRS y-splitter would. It's a pretty convenient feature and would be of use in monitoring *if* your camera used TRRS and played the audio signal out through headphone channels as it recorded.
Your channel is fantastic. Clear and Professional. One question ... Is this new MOVO PRO really better in sound than the original ??? Would you use the PRO or the Original ???. The new mount is cool to say the least.
Great question. Stayed tuned for next week's blind comparison between the VXR10 Pro and the original VXR10, the Rode VideoMicro, the AverMedia AM133, and the Rode VideoMic NTG. You'll definitely be able to decide for yourself!
Great videos sir. 👍 I have a question. If possible, can you connect the Movo VXR10 pro to the Zoom H1N/as preamp then to my Android rather then straight in from the Movo? Also, what are the proper connectors i.e. TRS, TRRS, USB C/USB A OTG etc. Thank you in advance 👍
I still really enjoy the sound of the original mic over the new, the only thing is I wish I could get the new shock mount by itself without buying the new mic. Since the body seems about the same size it should hold the old one just fine.
Hello. How are you ? Would this mic work fine with just the dead cat fixed or do you also have to use the foam at the same time? And what would be the correct volume for a Sony camera? Excellent video.
Thank you for your reviews! I'm looking for a microphone for my DSLR (Canon 6D, whatever) mainly to shoot my baby daughter for home use. What is the better option a lavalier or a in-camera type like Movo? Love your videos and reviews. You are a very handsome man and have great intro music (on the other channel).
Great vid my man. Can I ask. I use a Canon M50 with the VXR10 and to be honest I haven’t got time to do much audio post processing (lack of time AND skill). So would you suggest getting a recorder (cheapish, nothing fancy - h1n?) instead of micing direct to the camera, or is it not worth buying a recorder for the difference in quality. Thank you.
There is a significant and audible difference in quality capturing on a dedicated audio recorder. However, it's a time vs quality thing. Do you do vlogging? Studio talking head?
@@AudioforContentCreators Great thanks, even if I don’t do any post processing? Always fancied it but for £100 investment it’s always something I’ve held back on.
@@Kernow76 Especially if you don't do post. This will level up your audio quality massively without having to do any post. Going straight to camera you'll get high noise floor, super compressed audio that would almost definitely require cleaning up in post.
Hoping someone can help me out... I got the VXR10 Pro today. When I plug it into my Macbook using the TRRS cable that came with it, the Macbook doesn't recognize it as the input. When I plug the microphone into my PC laptop, then the PC recognizes it and it works. Why won't the Macbook recognize the microphone? @movo
Will this sound okay if you boom the mic, and connect it back with a long cable to a smartphone? I want to up the audio quality of some short iphone films and was thinking that "booming" a mic out of frame would be the best way to go. Wondering if this would be suitable
@@AudioforContentCreators Thanks for your reply! Do you mean this video (th-cam.com/video/GhhW-_kThtU/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=AudioforContentCreators)? I've watched it like 3x, it has been a great help for me :) I was trying to do some more research to figure out which mics would be good in this boom-type of setup and I saw some people saying that longer mics than the movo might be better. Additionally, I read that the length of the cable may affect audio quality (longer=worst). What do you think about this, in relation to microphone usage for short films (mostly indoors, not treated room)? I just want the simplest + most effective solution... seems like this is one, but not sure if other considerations are needed
Dear Brian. On your recommendation I bought the VXR 10 pro to use ist with my DJI Osmo Action. Yesterday I used it because of the wind with the foam windscreen an the dead cat together. Unfortunately the sound ist very quiet and it sounds like you speak through a cushion. Do you have an advice for me? Best greetings from Germany.
It's probably not the mi, but the settings on the Osmo. If there was a ton of wind and it was getting through into the mic, and your audio is set to Auto instead of manual, it will reduce the level to try to deal with noise. Can you set the audio to manual?
First off great video! second. I need help! I have the pro as well and I love it but I have a small problem and its the cable it came with. I have tried 3 different cables that are TRRS to TRS and none of them work and or have ver very low audio. have you run into this issues and or know of a solution that may work. cuz if I lose the cable it came with I won't be able to use it again lol
@@AudioforContentCreators I believe so. when I plug in the cable that it came with it works amazingly but when I use the other 2 that I ordered its super quite. im using a canon 90d btw
All good dude thanks! I was just wondering if anyone els was running into the problem by using different cables with it. And ya I have and I don’t think they understood cuz they told me to use a TRS to TRS lol but I’ll figure it out I hope
Yes me too came across this issue. Has nothing to do with power - phantom power etc. It is simply, competitive cables such as Rode doesn’t work properly. This updated version works only fine with the cables that comes with. Further the second downside: the headphone works only connected again with there own cables with iPhonew. I can not speak for Android devices cause I do not own. Sorry not seen your reaction earlier! Myself I own the older version without headphone etc. The older version works with the competition cables contrary the as you have mentioned the update version. Had Movo not made this difficulties they had sold a lot more shotguns. I do not know what you have done with the experiences, myself, well as it was only usable on iPhone and not on the camcorder was the item not needed anymore and is it returned to the seller. This experience has given me an lesson. The exiting review is fine but I think he didn’t know it the time he made his review. Yes the older version VXR10 works great, I own it together with the Pixel M80. Which has an thinner sound. Is depends, at home is used Pixel 80 when is talked 1 meter away of the microphones and when needed outsides by moving around 2 - 3 meters is the Movo better because of his fuller sound. Greets Luc
I really hope you can answer this question, I use the movo vxr10 pro with my galaxy note 9 and my videos sound pretty good, now if I add another movo vxr10 pro using a trrs dual input adapter do you think it would enhance my video audio sound even greater by having two of these mics on my phone?
Hi, it’s amazing video here! Can I ask if the headphone Jack allows audio playback through a headphone on my M50 canon camera? I have tried to use both jacks on my iPhone and it worked great but I don’t think the audio can be played through the headphone once it’s plugged into the camera.
No, you can’t monitor audio playback while plugged into a camera. That’s only for TRRS connections to phones, tablets, or computers. Thanks for being here, Tiffany! What kind of content are you creating?
Are MOVO and BOYA the same company, operating under different names in different territories, or is there something else going on, because the MOVO VXR10 PRO and the BOYA MM1+ have exactly the same specifications?
@@AudioforContentCreators Thanks for the reply Brian. So is the MM1+ the same microphone as the VXR10 PRO? The VXR10 PRO is not available in the UK yet. Thanks.
It would be adequate. The mic is sensitive enough for ASMR, but not very balanced. You won't get any low end to speak of. And ASMR is much more about your room treatment than the microphone itself.
It would do very well, provided you can get it close enough to the talent (boom it overhead) and capture it using a good preamp, like the Tascam DR-05X portable audio recorder or similar (just not your camera).
Brian: I purchased the MOVO VXR 10 Pro microphone with the expectation that I could use it as an inexpensive studio boom mike, connected to my Behringer mixer. It did not work. I reached out to MOVO for assistance. They sent this prompt reply: "Unfortunately, the VXR10 mic is not compatible with the mixer as mixers can only provide 12V phantom power which is too much for the mic since the mic only uses low plug-in power to operate. However, you can still use the mic with other devices such as smartphones or cameras that have an external mic input." I thought I would pass this information on to you and your subscribers. Hank
Hank, thanks for letting me know. Had I known you were planning to use the VXR10-PRO with a traditional mixer I would have steered you away. You can still use it with a portable audio recorder which has plug-in power like the Tascam DR05 and then output that to the mixer.
Are you still able to use your camera’s viewfinder alright while it is mounted? It looked like it sticks out further behind the camera compared to the original VXR10
From what I can tell this mic is a "very mild supercardioid" polar pattern, it seems a lot closer to a regular cardioid than to hypercardioid, but technically I guess it still qualifies as supercardioid.
@@encapsulatio I got it directly from Movo before it was released, back in July. So, my memory is a bit fuzzy. I believe it had a sticker over the edge. But perhaps it did not. What is your concern?
Thanks to you I have this amazing microphone 🙌🙌🙌. But I do have one question which type of headphones would you recommend that won't be bulky and easy to carry like the microphone please 🙏🙏🙏🙏.
Awesome! Glad to help. Well, headphones that aren’t bulky is kind of subjective. The thing is, the best quality headphones for monitoring audio will always be over-ear headphones, because of the isolation from outside noise. And those tend to be bulky. My favorite industry standard headphones that actually fold down pretty compact are the Shure MDR-7506. They are not neutral by any stretch. They have a hyped low end and very crisp high end. So, they’re not necessary great for mixing, but they are fantastical for critical listening. You will hear EVERYTHING that is wrong with your audio in those (and that’s what you want when doing your processing).
@@AudioforContentCreators amazing. Thank you so much for the detailed reply. Definitely will check them out or use my over the ear headphones. Hello Brian, great video, thank you! I’m keen to begin doing some TH-cam videos using my Nikon D7200, and have tested it on OBS with a $20 video capture card, and a separate Blue Snowball mic, connected to a MacMini vi USB. I’ve ensured the Nikon’s inbuilt microphone is set to OFF. My issue is that the audio is not syncing with video. Is it possible that connecting a Movo VXR10 Pro directly to the Nikon’s mic input, could help remedy this audio issue? Or would it better going straight into the MacMini? Either way I need to get a 3.5mm extension cord (about 6’) to connect the VXR10 Pro to the camera or Mac. 3 minutes into this video you mentioned the 2 types of cables that come in the box. If you could clarify which type is best suited in this instance for a mic extension I’d be very grateful! I’ve given you a thumbs up, subscribed, and clicked the bell notification. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge so well - cheers, Graham
Audio and video travel at different speeds. Many audio processing applications allow for an audio sync delay to compensate. OBS has it under Advanced Audio, Audio Hijack has it, etc. Try 100ms for an audio sync delay. Otherwise, yes. Using a mic connected to the camera will solve this issue.
Audio for Content Creators Thank you, for the informative and fast response Brian :) I actually did try that adjustment in OBS but the sync issue remains. I think connecting a mic directly to the camera may well be the way to go. Thanks to you I’m being swayed down a different route as your excellent review of the Movo VSM-7 & PreSonus AudioBox has really got me thinking; I can see myself entering the podcast arena one day too. Thanks again for all the value you add. So pleased I found your TH-cam Channel. Graham
To my ears, seem like a negligible difference. And the Pro just added feature with the headphone jack. Although typically any slight improvement would be better.
I wouldn’t say it’s a negligible difference. They have fundamentally different tonal characteristics. If they sound that similar to you it’s really worth going to a quiet place, putting on the best headphones you have (over ear are better than earbuds) and listening critically. Train your ears to notice how much bass versus mids versus treble you’re hearing. Would you use words like boomy, thin, muddy, nasally, bright, harsh, airy, etc to describe the sound?
Who knows? If I had 10 subs I'd still be making these videos. Long as you're getting value, I'm happy. In the words of Seth Godin, "More isn't the point. Better is the point."
That's a lot to ask of a $50 mic! Have you looked into the Rode VideoMic NTG? It does everything you're looking for and sounds amazing. But it's 5x the price.

Any ideas where I can buy a shorter TRRS tomTRRS cable than the one that comes with the Movo?
Can you use the headphone jack to use the mic for zoom meetings?
By any chance is there a work around this product to be able to hear live audio?
Thank you for your reviews! I'm looking for a microphone for my DSLR (Canon 6D, whatever) mainly to shoot my baby daughter for home use. What is the better option a lavalier or a in-camera type like Movo? Love your videos and reviews. You are a very handsome man and have great intro music (on the other channel).
Thank you! Absolutely an on-camera mic for filming your daughter.
@@AudioforContentCreators Thank you sir. Will order then :)
Thank you! this is super useful!
@@AudioforContentCreators thanks for getting back to me. It’s all in studio so very controlled, nothing outside or on the move.
Then absolutely use an external recorder. Sync is super easy in modern software. It's almost always automatic.
Very helpful - looking forward to the blind comparison...
It's already up!
I have bought its brother Boya MM1+ ( Movo was not available at the time ) and it has a pretty full sound for a small cardioid.
Had the Boya MM1+ and it was like shit audio. Invest in good audio. :)
@@henridioval
It is good enough for me.
@movo
Dang, why is it already now unavailable?
Will this sound okay if you boom the mic, and connect it back with a long cable to a smartphone? I want to up the audio quality of some short iphone films and was thinking that "booming" a mic out of frame would be the best way to go. Wondering if this would be suitable
Absolutely! In fact I've made an entire video on how to do it.
Thank you for the video!
Is mic power on in your camera?
@@AudioforContentCreators I believe so. when I plug in the cable that it came with it works amazingly but when I use the other 2 that I ordered its super quite. im using a canon 90d btw
Hm. I am not sure. Movo is good with customer service generally. I'd reach out to them.
Greets Luc
Quality content my man
I really hope you can answer this question, I use the movo vxr10 pro with my galaxy note 9 and my videos sound pretty good, now if I add another movo vxr10 pro using a trrs dual input adapter do you think it would enhance my video audio sound even greater by having two of these mics on my phone?
Would love to know how you process your audio
I've got a free 3-part series here on the channel and multiple courses at audio101.info
@@AudioforContentCreators Awesome, thanks!
It sounds like you're using a post production audio setting to cut out hissing. Are you?
Nope. Like the video said, all raw.
Have you done a review on the movie 3031? I'd love to see a comparison of the 10 pro and that 3031.
Are MOVO and BOYA the same company, operating under different names in different territories, or is there something else going on, because the MOVO VXR10 PRO and the BOYA MM1+ have exactly the same specifications?
Boya used to be a licensee of Movo. Recently they seem to have gone out on their own.
@@AudioforContentCreators Thanks for the reply Brian. So is the MM1+ the same microphone as the VXR10 PRO? The VXR10 PRO is not available in the UK yet. Thanks.
Would this mic be good for doing my ASMR?
It would be adequate. The mic is sensitive enough for ASMR, but not very balanced. You won't get any low end to speak of. And ASMR is much more about your room treatment than the microphone itself.
Hi Brian, I have a question about Movo VXR10. It works well for vlogging, but do you think it would do for an interview?
It would do very well, provided you can get it close enough to the talent (boom it overhead) and capture it using a good preamp, like the Tascam DR-05X portable audio recorder or similar (just not your camera).
Nice job, thanks. You gained a sub.
However, you can still use the mic with other devices such as smartphones or cameras that have an external mic input."
I thought I would pass this information on to you and your subscribers. Hank
Hank, thanks for letting me know. Had I known you were planning to use the VXR10-PRO with a traditional mixer I would have steered you away. You can still use it with a portable audio recorder which has plug-in power like the Tascam DR05 and then output that to the mixer.
sometime your voice fades. can you explain that to me. is it that the mic is blown out of your voice direction?
That was the wind eating up all the low frequencies, so my voice had nowhere to to, essentially.
@@AudioforContentCreators thanks for that
Are you still able to use your camera’s viewfinder alright while it is mounted? It looked like it sticks out further behind the camera compared to the original VXR10
Great question, Alex. Probably not, but I don't know because I literally never use the viewfinder. I'm not sure I've ever used the viewfinder!
Quick question if i use this movo mic with headphones and in a zoom meeting, can I listen to the participants through the headphones?
Yes. The mic becomes an audio interface, essentially. You'll hear the computer playback through your headphones plugged into the mic.
From what I can tell this mic is a "very mild supercardioid" polar pattern, it seems a lot closer to a regular cardioid than to hypercardioid, but technically I guess it still qualifies as supercardioid.
Can't get the Movo VXR 10 Pro to record to my Tascam DR40. Is this incompatible?
Just turn on Mic Power in the settings and use the TRS cable.
Only mic power option I see on the DR40 is phantom power 24/48v. I think phantom power would probably ruin this mic.
Does the DR40 have a standard 3.5mm TRS input jack? Or just two combo XLR/TRS jacks?
Just the two combo xlr/trs jacks.
Then it is incompatible. Mics like these require a 3.5mm TRS input jack and mic power.
Did you receive your Movo vxr10 Pro in the box not sealed just like you show the box in this video?
It was sealed. I had already opened it at this point :)
@@AudioforContentCreators did it have a plastic wrapping that seals it? I didn't receive it with any "seal".
@@encapsulatio No, it did not.
@@AudioforContentCreators well...then why use the word "seal" if yours has no seal either?
@@encapsulatio I got it directly from Movo before it was released, back in July. So, my memory is a bit fuzzy. I believe it had a sticker over the edge. But perhaps it did not. What is your concern?
would this work good for streaming?
Yes.
Didn't know that they actually benefit alot more than the usual pair of headphones but I understand what you mean. Have an amazing day and keep up the amazing work 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌 you rule
So I was wondering say I use my ios device to screen record my voice with the vrx10 pro will it have any type of issue? I recently bought another brand of mic and when I attempted to screen record and use that mic all I heard was static and low volume of my voice. So just wanted to know if the pro or the original versiom will have this issue?
I don't know how your screen recorder app works, but both the original and Pro come with a TRRS cable for using with a smartphone.
Audio for Content Creators I use the built in screen record option available in ios devices (11 pro max to be exact). Also thank for getting back to my question quickly I appreciate it 🙌.
Audio for Content Creators Thank you, for the informative and fast response Brian :)
I actually did try that adjustment in OBS but the sync issue remains.

Good review 👍🏻
the pro sounds better to me. a little bit more full. good review!
Hello to funny I do exactly what you do whenever I am videoing, checking my 6 all times. Nice video thanks. Saludos
@@AudioforContentCreators I appreciate your input, I’d have to relisten to the comparison. Lol
these cuts to your future self feels like inception
I’ll stick with my original VXR10. I have enough headphone jack monitoring options between my GH5 and Atomos Shinobi.
hey man ive got a question
why don't you have more subs
Who knows? If I had 10 subs I'd still be making these videos. Long as you're getting value, I'm happy. In the words of Seth Godin, "More isn't the point. Better is the point."
@@AudioforContentCreators I like it
