I absolutely remember, Ashton! Great to meet you as well. Nope, she wasn't happy at all. 😄 We thank you for your kind words, and for watching. We'll be back at some point for sure!
What a great video! Glad your truck didn't roll. I locked my keys in my truck while camping. Walked 8 miles to a phone and called my wife who reminded me she hid a hide a key under the bed mat of the truck. It took awhile for her to stop laughing.
Thanks as always Bert! I knew we were lucky, as locals book it as soon as reservations open in January and it was the only site available, but once the weekend hit we couldn't understand where everyone who reserved those sites ended up.

Been to Topaz Lake a long time ago. I was informed that the Lake was dying. Fish were on the shores. Scummy. But Pricy to visit. I had wanted to go picnicking with my friends. We passed & went to look in thrift shops. Lots in the borderline CA Coleville area.
It seemed to be in good shape while we were there, Michelle, and witnessed none of what you saw. Even out on the water in the kayak, things were very enjoyable.
LOL, well , cant say you didnt get what you were asking for with that washed out road....Y know, i live at the other end of HWY 4 in the east bay area and i have never been over Monitor Pass....Thanks for sharing...We have stayed in the RV park at Carson Valley Inn in Minden before....Love the little town of Genoa ...We have spent a lot of time up at Lake Tahoe in the past and always seem to make it to Genoa and Virginia City while doing so...Nice ways to spend a day....Seems once i make it to that Genoa Bar, its hard for me to get out of there....Would love to live in that tiny little town...When you make it to the coast am sure hoping you head up HWY 101 to Oregon....OUR FAVORITE VACATION the Oregon Coast....We have relatives in Crescent City , Garibaldi , and Portland so we have done that coast ride several times....The Oregon state parks are the bomb on the U.S. Scenic Byway Hwy 101...We also like to Casino camp on the HWY 101 route beginning in Loletta Ca. on up....Travel safe, be well !!
Oh, definitely got what we asked for! 😄Thought I could make it, and probably would have had I not gotten too close to the washed-out bank. Genoa was positively adorable. And yes, we're headed up the coast. Next week's Grand Adventure will be at a gorgeous oceanfront spot in Sonoma County. The following will be where we are now, at a reservoir in northern Sacramento Valley, before returning to the coast near Crescent City and heading north from there. We also spent a few nights at a casino near there a few years back when my pancreatitis flared up and couldn't drive. We've even scored some last-minute cancellations this year in Oregon State Parks along the coast. Safe travels to you as well!
@@GrandAdventure Who hoo !!!! Just a hint here nothing to do with TH-cam or anything...If your into homemade jams , jellies, syrups , honey etc, your gonna wanna stop at Misty Meadows on Hwy 101 bout 10 miles south of Bandon....Only place i buy that stuff anymore....Cant wait for the next few episodes...STAY SAFE !!! and all be well....
I remember when you posted about your truck on facebook. An experience at elephant hill in needles district of canyonlands in moab (hard offroad trail) have taught me importance of having a winch, which is why I moseyed my way to harbor freight and got a 12000 lbs winch with synthetic rope, shackels, pulleys and the whole enchilada of recovery gear that I keep under rear seat in the truck. At the very least you had recovery gear with you, which is important to have on you at all times. I have been watching a youtube channel from Moab called trailmater and learn every time they post... how to recover vehicles and in process how to recover myself. Its a lonely feeling to be out there caught on something silly.
No doubt, and a winch is on my wish list. We've done much offroading in our home state of Utah and are very familiar with Elephant Hill ourselves. This truck has such a long wheelbase and large turning radius that it would exponentially increase Elephant Hill's difficulty for us.
Wow, thanks! You went to all the places we love so much, we were there the last week of April. Try Dini's Lucky Club in Yerington next time!!! 😊🎰🎰🎰👍🍻🍸Oh yeah, Walley's in Genoa, it's pricey at $55 for day use, but try it and tell us if you think it is a good value.
another beautiful spot. you do have to try and keep all 4 wheels of that truck on earth though. Nice truck and capable truck, but if all 4 wheels are not on earth, it can quickly become not a nice truck and very incapable.... Quite the adventure. Looking forward to next week, and as always, safe travels.....keep 4 wheels down... take care Marc
Glad you were able to get your truck out. I would have had a nervous break down. Such beautiful scenery. I really enjoyed seeing the brief footage of the Green-tailed Towhee at about 12:42. This is one of my favorite western states birds.
Thanks for letting me know what that was, Kelley! I'm not a birder and had no idea, but its song was beautiful. As for the truck, well..."stuff" happens. You just take a big breath, sigh at your stupidity, then figure out your options for correcting the situation.
You should see the lake where we are now, although you will in a couple of weeks. Labrador heaven! She takes herself swimming, the water is about 10 ft from our trailer door.
Thanks for another great adventure, Marc. A rear end winch with proper tackle and ground moorings would have also saved the day. Glad the Lord had someone there for you.🙏🙏🙏 Loved all the views of the pass and the local area around the lake. Those towns with your history overlay were fascinating. It gives some context to the whole area. Gord
But I'll pass on that rather exciting mine tour. Last fall I was stuck in Coral Sand Dunes State Park embarrassingly twice in the same day but thankfully deer hunters were out on those roads and they had all of the heavy duty rescue gear to pull out a 15,000 lb Sprinter! It was a bit of a sickening feeling to be seriously stuck out there alone in the middle of nowhere with no cell service.
Boy do I hear ya! I wasn't envying the prospect of walking out ~5 miles in Crocs to go get help. But you do what you've gotta do. I was just lucky that Minnesota couple was just out for a day hike, and not a multi-day backpack or something...and they happened to return at just the right moment as I was about to start hoofing it. It's always good to carry recovery gear, a high-capacity quality tow strap and a bunch of recovery D-shackles. We've used that stuff countless times to get others out, but in years of off-roading this is the first time I've gotten stuck myself. About the only way I could've escaped this predicament without help would've been with a winch, and even if I owned one (and I've thought about it multiple times) it would've been front mounted, which would've done me no good in this situation. Maybe the best solution would be a receiver-mounted hitch that could be moved between front and rear hitches as necessary? This is giving me some ideas.
