Don't know if anyone has said before, but with your soothing voice and positive attitude, your the Bob Ross of wood turning. We love watching your videos. Sends a peaceful positive vibe into our home.
You are the star of the show. Your turnings are great, but it is how you talk to us and explain everything you. You talk to us like we are real good friends and you have such a great personatily you make us want to see more. God bless you, and many more videos. Wish I could be there.
Phil, excellent as always. Asked my wife to sit down and watch one of your videos and she finallly agreed. She thinks your talking and teaching are good and she was very impressed with your work!!
Thanks to Mr. Brown for that piece. Kind of you to say those nice things about us.. the ones on the other side of your camera..I think the same way about the effort and time you spend making the video’s. Ponder this, if we didn’t love you and your projects, would we make the effort to get a chunk of wood to you? I think knot. Sorry, couldn’t stop myself 😁
Phil I'm always surprised how you take a chunk of wood and turn it into a beautiful piece of art. I like that you explain what you are doing . Thank you for sharing this with your fans.
Buckthorn is an invader from across the see. Its from merry old England. Its called buckthorn because all the branch tips look like forked antlers. Its really hard to get rid of once it starts spreading in an area, and it grows like the dickens, as some say. Its very hardy and has an advantage over native trees, it stays green longer in the fall, and starts going early in the spring. Most people think its an ugly tree for some reason, probably because it sheds bark and makes a lot of branches. But inside, it is always full of color and crazy grain, sometimes amazingly so. I think it makes the best walking sticks, because of all the gnarly growths and wiggles. That was fun to watch and turned out awesome, Phil.
Oh Phil I look forward to every video! My week isn't complete without Good afternoon good evening Howdy! And seeing your stunningly beautiful creations!!
Oh my! What a lovely piece. One of these days someone is gonna send you a dried cow pie and I’ll bet you would even turn that into a jewel! As always, thank you. Thank you for the emotion, thank you for the visit, and thank you for continuing to inspire!
You ole Goat, don’t you know it’s us who are thankful for you. We get up every Thursday waiting with anticipation for the “Dr. Phil Show”. This video was no disappointment for I love the way you first examine the patient for best diagnosis then you proceed with the surgery keeping us informed all the way through. I loved the panoramic view(just briefly) of you standing at the lathe. You actually do have legs. You looked good at the operating table Doctor. I never heard of this wood but you sure have a keeper-just beautiful! Thanks and stay safe.
I was holding my breath for that little piece and then you found a rock under it. You amazed me how patient you were with the root ball. Nothing seemed to faze you - not sand, dirt, loose piece, multiple rocks. And then a beautiful work of art appeared. Thank you. 👍🏻😃🙏
Good evening, Phil. I can see your story, I can hear your story, I can feel your story. Stay the course. Your wood turning channel brings joy and learning to many. I feel like I'm in the shop watching and helping with the design/shape etc. Looking forward to next week.
I think thats the first time I have seen your shop! Nice place Phil. Another beautiful bowl. You have the patience of Job. I cant ever take my time and just let the piece happen the way you do, but keep providing such a good example and I may learn in time. Oh and thank you Chris for sending such a cool piece to him.
Thank You Phil, Thank You Chris Brown from New York...Very interesting turning 2 say the least. Glossy Buckthorn is a mystery to me (U lucky dude, Phil). Quite the adventure you gave us Phil. Rocks, sand, more cavities than my last dental exam!!!! The inside has a nice face with a jutting jaw, Popeye grin & 2 eyes (or is it just me, ha).....TM
Yeah, there's a couple faces in there, Tuffy, not just you! I didn't see them at the time but just went and looked and sure enough! Also, I didn't notice the clear face on the outside before I turned it. You can see it in the thumbnail for this video. On the right hand side. Kind of looks like Flash Gordon or maybe a hood ornament from the 40's. Always something to see in these great, oddball pieces I'm sent by my very generous viewers! But, you know a little something about that, yourself! 😊
Thank you, Phil! Another masterful job with a beautiful result "for all to enjoy"! I'm still trying to master the Phil Cutoff (sometimes successful, other times not so much).
This piece is outstanding Phil, beautiful colour and unusual grain with the burl looking sections and so glad that top piece stayed on. I’m certain that your entire audience is very grateful for you putting these video’s together. All the best to you. Regards Jim
Another beautiful piece. Love the colors. I too would have liked to see the wall thinner, but it definitely does not take away from the esthetics of the piece.
Thank you Phil! We all love you and your beautiful work. We are thankful you get out of bed every day! You are so so appreciated and bring so much joy!
OH MY! is right Phil! That one was almost impossible to see anything that pretty coming out of it. But it sure did. Looked like there was going to be trouble with that loose section but sure glad it hung in there because it really did make the piece. Hang on for a second I think I am going to get that root ball my son gave me and put it on the burn pile! LOL Ok I am back...and I left it there and one of these days I will turn it. I have turned pieces of it and they were as hard as a rock. Same Camelia you turned into a beautiful one winged bowl. Another great piece pulled out of the ground and made it to beauty my friend! Gary
The cool part, Gary, is this piece was a little wet. Now that it's been in the house awhile, it has shrunk up a bit and that piece has pulled tightly against the little gap and it won't move, at all! Sometimes things just work out! 😊 Thanks, buddy, it was fun!
Perhaps I missed it, but this is the first time we saw your shop in the background. Looks good. This stump was gnarly. I turn stump wood too. It has some of the best figure and features I've found. Nice work. I watch a lot of your videos. What do you do with your finished bowls? I sell some of mine on Ebay.
I am a one year turner totally enjoying learning about turning. I can't fathom not having you tube and a couple of turners including you to teach me the ins and outs of turning. I started out doing chain saw carving and then went into sign and wood art carvings, epoxy work but now spend a couple of hours a day watching you tube learning and practicing turning. It is incredible that a person can use a resource like You Tube and professional wood turners to fill my day and make retirement throughly enjoyable. Thanks Phil for your channel.
This is wonderful to read, Doyle! That is exactly how I learned to turn, too. I watched hundreds of hours of video interspersed with going to the shop to try what I had learned. It took awhile and I had tons of huge catches but, eventually, my learning took hold. 😊
Good idea to not “stand in line”. Was turning a HUGE piece of pine: as I moved to get a different tool, it flew majestically through the space I vacated. One of the best rules I learned from a good turner: “never chuck up a piece of wood you aren’t willing to eat”.
I watch all your video's you are the king of the quirky bowls, lovely colours and grain in the piece, may you entertain us for years to come, thank you Phil, your friend from Wales signing off. lol 😁
You don't like using a carbide bit, I've noticed. You made the comment that "it is not as much fun to watch". Actually, I find it just as much fun to watch as your regular tools. I have to laugh at the way you end your videos. Up to that point you sound so happy and enthusiastic, and then you sound so depressed when you say "signing off". LOL
Hi Phil Thanks again for turning another piece of art from a god awful looking piece of wood. Great to see your workshop, looks so clean and tidy ,I’ve just cleaned up mine after the vac stopped ten days ago amazing how much dust and shavings stack up over that time. Looking forward to your next video, great to relax and watch before bed Stay safe Regards

Phil, like you I enjoy turning odd pieces of wood. Roots , driftwood etc. I always ask myself before I start “what would Phil do” as far as mounting . I try to emulate your vision. Thanks Phil. Keep up the good work.

I agree, those fluffy little roots...and every bowl needs a friend..

Keep turning, keeps your mind and body active.
That is what I do.
True enough, Jules! 😊
The colors and grain are just beautiful. I love this bowl. It came great!
