Love it when TH-cam throws up old videos of yours that I haven’t seen. This is beautiful and I’m glad I got the chance to see it. I love turning Yew. And I love what you have don’t with this piece. ❤
I really appreciate you taking the time to talk while you are turning. I learn so much about how you do things. And this one is exceptional in my opinion. Thanks Arland
Theres nothing ugly about this bowl. Phil you are an artist and an inspiration to this craft. The part i love best about your wood turning is you look for the beauty in Gods creation. You have taught me so very much on your videos and you make it interesting . Thank you and keep up the good work. I know im not the only one who feels this way and i just wanted you to know you are an inspiration and a great teacher to wood turners young and old
I took a walk back in time to rewatch this one. Now that I have been turning larger pieces , I appreciate this one more. What a beautiful well earned piece . I use the outside edge of my gouge to get in there , then slowly roll the gouge toward the center as I near the bottom of the side . Thats where the long handle on the carter and son's 5/8 gouge comes in handy.
Thank you, Phil! I sure appreciate the way you think out loud as you consider your options on a difficult piece. As usual your finished project is beautiful! Cheers, Pete
What happened to the wood hardener? I am really inspired by your patience when you are working With this oddly shaped wood. You turn out very nice stuff. Thank you Richard
Phil, I was so pleased to hear you say towards the end of the video "I like it & that's what counts" before going on to say it was important that we, the viewers liked it too. Yes, you want the viewers to like the piece but firstly, it is important that YOU, the creator, like the piece in the first instant. I think this is such an important stage for the Artist/Craftsman to like the piece. To me it has a very interesting grain which was shown up to great effect by the lovely finish applied. I like it, I think that it is a very nice piece worthy of your skills. Thanks for sharing it, Don
The wood is beautiful. The shape is well done. Rustic it is. You like it, I like it, that's all that counts. I am where I can't turn right now and so I'm counting on you to ease my pain. Thanks.
Hi, Mr. Anderson! Another stunning piece. Please thank your grandson for giving us such an interesting look into your problem solving process. I watched the hazelnut video but did not comment because I could not make up my mind about the finished product. This yew wood is so full of color and beautiful grains that I had no problem deciding even before you started turning. Sorry for the wordiness. Please continue your passion so we can all enjoy along with you!
Hey Phil, sometimes function and form comes second when you look at the artistry of a piece. This is a perfect example of just that. It truly is beautiful. 😊
I think it's a work of art and i think you should do more like that. All the irregularity's is what make's it unique. That's what nature is about. Thank's for sharing!
Thank you so much for your great comment, Ben! I agree about the irregularity's. I always try to find that in a piece of wood, but sometimes they are elusive. I will keep trying to find more pieces like this. Phil.
Phil, I love this bowl...The lighter section with the "eyes" seems to look like a beaver to me and the "smile" reminds me of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that my boys used to watch. Bless you for sharing your talent with us.
Phil I have turned for a few years now got into it after our son died and have did some nice stuff but watching you and papa1947 doing these pieces they are far from ugly they are beautiful pieces of God's gift art forms which would be beautiful in a house and you have made me love this type of turning I'm not as good as you but learning! Thanks so much for your channel and your way of explaining things! God Bless!
That was dramatic, I especially enjoy listening to you talking your way through the process. I would very much like to see your shop , if you could pan the camera.
Phil , Just Wonderful pieces you put out for us to enjoy ! And I do very much so ! You are blessed to get ahold of such beautiful pieces of wood ! I am from Eastern North Carolina and great pieces of wood are far and few to be found ! But is a pleasure to watch you turn !
Phil, I'm going back to watch all your older post. I love this bowl and I really appreciate the way you share your thoughts and feelings as you go through the process.
Hi Phil, I so enjoyed the piece and I really enjoy your conversation sharing your thoughts and wows. It feels like we're in the workshop watching besides you. Thanks Graham UK
I like it too. A lot goin' on there, with the grain, fissures and colours. My brother made a coffee table out of a slab, and that was the first time I'd seen the features of yew. Gnarly and nice!
A challenging piece like that can only help you get better as a turner. I rather like the rustic look of it and the “sharks” mouth. Very nice job Phil!
Yew ! My favourite wood as a woodturner and the most beautiful we have in Brittany , once I had to spend two days removing iron nails from a stump before starting turning , one piece showed a bluish area because of the reaction to iron , like yours ! Yew can kill or save you : it is highly toxic , a neighbour of mine once lost 17 cows and gave me quickly the responsible tree , but it contains a stuff called taxol that can cure cancer ! Beautiful bowl , best finish ! ( I often think it is a pity to waste actually more of such precious stuff than what remains after..) thanks to you !
Lovely piece Phil, that crack of yours is surely the result of a close growing limb, so not a defect. Well done and keep them coming, your videos have been a sanity saver in these trying times. I am trying to go through all of your videos which l find entertaining and instructional. Keep me sans man. David
You've got 10 years on me, Harry. You give me hope! Congratulations on keeping busy at the lathe. That and my viewers are what get me out of bed in the morning. I'm really glad you took your time to watch and let me know you like this piece. Thank you very much! Phil
