I found a free dining table on Craiglist and decided to turn it into a DIY modern fluted pedestal dining table. It ended up being more work than I anticipated, but in the end, I think it was all worth it. What do you think?

You are very patient and the table turned out beautifully!💯 I appreciate that you don't have music blasting in the background (the sound of the tools and sanding sound really cool). Thank you Furniture Flippa!😎
Thanks for tuning in! I appreciate the kind comment :)
Great job. The result was well worth the effort. Maybe you could sell it and take the profit to make a smaller version for yourself because that style looks really good in your apartment.
You may not have had to use clamps if you'd brad nailed the half rounds. You would've just had to putty over the pin holes, but you wouldn't have to wait until the glue dried before being able to use the clamps again. Mind you, if you don't have a brad nailer, it would've added more expense to have to buy one, and doing that by hand wouldn't be ideal.
Good idea! I’m keeping my eye out for a smaller table, hopefully one pops up eventually. And I don’t have a brad nailer, but I will prob buy more clamps eventually, you can never have too many lol thanks for watching :)
What a beautiful piece!! Wow. I've never seen this kind of base before. Awesome. Adding the fluting on the base was genius. Absolutely love it. And Chuck is beyond cute. He's adorable!!
Thank you!! I saw this base a while ago and thought it would be so nice. Finally got a chance to try it out. And Chuck is the cutest haha thanks for watching :)
Beautiful!
You can keep it, because it looks great there. It gives room for a few people to dine. And it gives room for doing any paperwoork.
Great job on the table!! It really looks wonderful! I have mixed feelings about what you should do with it. If you can get $3000 for it, sell it!! Make a nice smaller one for your place. Or, you can just keep it. You may move to a larger space at some point. Whatever makes YOU happy makes ME happy. I just wanted you to know that I really enjoy your videos. A lot of talent for such a young man. Your dog is such a cutie!! Looks like a real sweetie.
Thanks so much for the kind comment! :)
Beautiful work!!! Great attitude on the mistakes and fixing them!
OMG! So much work but a great outcome! I think you should sell it for a decent profit. Looks great in your space, though.
Wow. Very cool apartment and cute lil pup. Well I think you’re pretty darn smart. I think that wood trim you put all the way around the base was beautiful. 😍😍😍
Terrific alteration. Less '80s and much more of our time. Trade out the chairs with something less chunky and the set would be complete.
The top looks like it was covered with a laminate plastic coating which is why you had such a hard time removing it. Great job on upcycling this piece. It’s nice to see these old pieces updated instead of just being tossed in a land fill. Well done.
It could have been! It was a tough removal that's for sure. Thanks so much for watching!
Table fab! But chuck, omg, he's adorable 😍
Thanks! and he says thanks too 🐶🐕🙂
Cute dog. Oh, and the table looks great, by the way 😁. Fantastic patience skills.
A very handsome table. Great work! Carol from California
Looks very good, wish I had your patients. Well worth the time spent.
You have the patience of a saint 🙌
The added wood at the base gives the table some nice texture and makes it more interesting, while not looking like some kind of trendy decor. I like it. I also looked into a round table for my apartment but like you I'm not sure if one wouldn't be too big.
Thank you! And mine fits but it makes it feel tight as my space isn’t too large already. Which makes me kind of want to hold off and wait for a smaller sized table. I love the look though. Good luck finding a round table!
Hey! That was a ton of work but well worth it. Looks SO much better now. Well done!! 🍻
Thanks Matt! 🍻
Nice!
Chuck is just too cute!
Thanks! And I agree! 🐶
Sahhh-weet table Jamie! 👍
Now you have to take the barstools and redo those with some of the poplar slabs. It would look pretty cool with the rattan seat backs.
As always, a video to enjoy, thanks again!
Thank you!! Good idea! and thanks for watching :)
Beautiful transformation
Thank you!
beautiful transformation and dealing with some tricky bits along the way...
Thank you! I expected to complete this project pretty quick, it ended up being much longer lol
Great job. Love how you kept at the top to get it right.😊
Thank you! It was a bit frustrating initially, as I was unsure if this stuff was ever coming off lol but happy it ended up working out!
There's always something to learn in woodcraft. It's great to watch you learn and grow. You're so talented and dedicated. My partner and I love building things too. First you sweat, and then you really enjoy the results.
Thank you very much!
Your attention to detail is to be commended. You had great vision for this project and worked hard to see it through. It turned out amazing, you should be very proud!! I think you should sell it for top dollar and invest in more clamps though!!
Thank you very much! And I considered buying more clamps, but after spending $300+ on the wood and other supplies, I was like “nope” that’s all I wanted to spend on this one lol
Looks beautiful in your space! Nice job.
Thank you! 😊
You did an excellent job!! You show that you have great perseverance and put excellence in everything you do. Awesome!! 😊
Thank you so much!
Personally, I would well it and use the cash to make a smaller version, one that will fit better in your apartment. Great work, as always.
Thanks! I think that will be the plan. Thanks for watching!
beautiful! that table would be stamd out in art deco environment
Totally! Thanks for watching
Great result! Love it.
Thank you! :)
I'm not a fan of this style of table, but I appreciate the work that you put in to this piece! Very well done 😊
Thank you so much 😀
I would suggest a few rachet straps around the center to get pressure and good adhesion... if you ever find yourself working with a cylinder shape again.
@@christophervines9756 that’s a good idea!! Thank you!
Really nice job. Love the base!
Glad you like it! Thanks for watching
Excellent!! WOW!!
nice job looks beautiful that was a lot of work 👍
It's gorgeous!!
Thank you!!
Nice job. Enjoyed video.
This looks incredible 💕💕
Thanks so much! :)
I admire you, b/c I do not have the patience to restore furniture 😊
Thank you :)
Looks great!
Thanks!
Beautiful, I would love to have it in my house
Thank you!!
I appreciate your work even I don't like this stain color. I prefer after sanding a whitewash or dark brown stain 😳😏😊
Totally! I chose this color to try and match up in my space. Washes are always nice too, and I love dark stains when restoring pieces :) next video is dark stain!
What you should have done is cover the top with cloth and completely saturate with acetone and cover with plastic for several hours. I suspect it’s polyurethane 😊
Very nice job my friend.
Thank you John!
Nice job!
I think you done a beautiful job on the table and it looks stunning in your apartment. Well done 👍🏻 ❤
Thanks so much! 😊
Вітаю! Цікава, чудова робота як завжди.😊
Beautifully done1
Thank you!
Looks great in your kitchen.
Great job
Thank you Ginger!
Great job. Chuckie is a super star
Thanks! And he is 🐶
Nice work. You really improved this piece.
Thank you very much!
Gorgeous! What a labor of love ❤️
Thanks!! :)
Really beautiful! Nice work and I learned so much. How much you think you will list it for?
Thanks so much! And not sure my plans yet
Bravo J, I'm glad you had a slightly easier job this time around. It looks good with those familiar looking chairs too 👍How many hours work combined? 🏆
Hi Charlie 👋😊
Thanks Tequeena :) and nice you noticed the chairs 👍 not sure how many hours, but I thought it would take like 4 days, prob took 7? Some days I’m in garage for 3-4 hours+, others just 1-2. Depends on what needs to be done!
@@tequeenaand Charlie says hi back 🐶
Good work! Looks great!
I personally don't like table bases that thick, I prefer to sit quite close to the table and to don't bruise my knees in the process
Yes, this base is pretty big. I wanted something smaller, would have cost less in wood too lol at least it was a free table. thanks for watching!
Love it
Thanks!!
Pure perfection ❤❤❤❤
Very nice job! I learned alot watching your process.
Thanks for watching!
Great job; I love it! Keep it!
I am playing catch up. This is about red can of the liquid stripper. I learned yeaes ago that this particular type of stripper works better if you 1- use it in a pan and soak the pieces or 2- pour it in a container and dip steel wool into it and scrub the piece. It is best for really hard woods. I used luquid strip and steel wool to refinish 6 hardwood, I think maple chairs. I hated it. Evaporated ways to quickly and went through 4 gallons. Wasn't worth it.
Nice to know, thanks for Info!!
Stunning
Excellent job! 🦋
Thank you!
Fab!
Thank you!!
VERY nice job! Do those tables ever add a plinth to the base? ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊 the sanding was brutal!😅
Thanks! And most store bought have a piece of trim of some sort on bottom, most DIY projects just go straight to the floor like mine! Thank you for watching
Keep it!
Wow👌
Thanks :)
Question ... Do you have a shop where you repair wood furniture ?
I started renting a double detached garage back in January!
Fabulous 👌
Thank you!!
Curious why you didn’t nail in the flutes pieces?
didn't want to nail 100+ times, then fill/cover them 100+ times. Glue holds these on nicely and it looks great! thanks for watching
Very cool
Thank you!
Question, why scrape the finish off instead of sanding it?
I tested sanding, it took forever...
@@FurnitureFlippa Ah, got it. Thank you!
Interesting piece! For future reference, "poplar" is pronounced "pawp-ler", not "pope-ler".
Thanks! And haha I mess up a few words in this video 😂
Have u tried the saw dust filler before?
I haven't, do you mean using sawdust from the project and glue together? or?
@@FurnitureFlippa yes
@@MrsBamBam6932 I should test it out! Would have been a good idea for this project, but luckily that wood putty stained perfectly
👍❤️
Great job don't you just hate when your about to finish a piece and boom you have to make a repair ggrrr
Oh its the worst! Thanks for watching :)
🤸♂️🇺🇸👍
1:55 “oss-kill-ā-ting” 😂
Oops, I mess up words on the daily 😂
@@FurnitureFlippa Cool video makes up for everything. 😀
that wasn't enough sanding for the type of glue you used. it really makes sense to spend an hour or two reading or asking on forums before spending days working and filming a project that has such a big issue built in. you should have spent more time on your sponsor's pages
Thanks for the feedback! I tested three pieces and couldn’t rip them off when pulling hard, so I think it's holding up just fine. Not building a skyscraper here, just a table! But I appreciate the engineering concern-and the laugh!
Very nice! Did you end up figuring out what that finish was? Btw I love the tiny itty bitty clamps you used for the veneer repair 🥹
It looks great!
Thank you!
Very nice job! Looks really good in your space.
Thanks so much! I think so too
