    It's amazing how well this model has aged. Completely timeless and (imho) much better looking than 944 (which is a good looking car too). 968 has some 993 and 959 look on the front.

      I’ve always loved the Porsche 968, ever since I was a kid! Time passed, and I still feel the same about them.. Timeliness 🔥🔥🔥

    • @pederfallbom

      The 968 was Porsches start to make its models look more alike. With it they wanted it too look more like the 928. After the 968 they also made the 911/993 look more the same with its modernized rounded look. 968 and 993 fenders and frontal parts almost fit together.
      In the modern Porsches this lookalike effort is very clear with all its models looking very much the same.
      To me thats ashame, and prefer the different shapes and looks of the 70:s and 80:s models

    • @detonator2112
      @detonator2112 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@pederfallbom In my opinion, 993 is the best looking Porsche ever made. If you look at 997, 991 and 992 fronts they're still going back to that look. Some people prefer the old 964 front and while 993 is still the last genuine old Porsche, it still rewrote the front design language for the next 25 years. Maybe forever. 996 front was such a colossal failure. Porsche learned their lesson and have played it safe since 997.

    • @pederfallbom
      @pederfallbom ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@detonator2112 Yes the 993 is a very nice car. The look of the 993 however was preceeded by the 968. Ever since these models porsche has made each model look more or less like the 911 which is kinda boring IMO. Bring me a early 1978-79 928 with Pascha interior and phonedials, now that is a design that has no confidence issues at all🥰

    • @detonator2112
      @detonator2112 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@pederfallbom True. Also the 928 S4-GT-GTS/964/993 era where they released purple and amethyst cars with 100% purple / amethyst interiors. Those are bold examples but people love them.

    As a proud owner of a 1994 968, you hit on every single point perfectly. There is a very unique joy to having a car from such an interesting time in Porche's history, and I enjoy the curiousity it inspires. It's familiar in that it's a Porsche, but it's alien given that it's a model many don't recognize.

    When I was a teenager, I had a giant poster of the 959 in silver just facing my bed so I can look at it when I wake up and go to bed. Then I saw that comparison poster of the 959 vs 968. That brought me back to earth for which is more realistically can be bought. I fell in love with the 968 instantly because it looks like the baby brother of the 959. I loved how Porche used the same side mirrors from the 959. Something magical about the design of that mirror that captured my imagination. Now I'm in search of the dream baby 968. So, one day I can pass it on to my daughter to enjoy it. Thanks for the passion and the details in the video, oh, and nice touch with that angry cat face! 😂😂😂😂

    had one as 968 CS from 1997 - 2000, what great fun i had with this car, i think, it came at the wrong time, a time, when Porsche company was already in bad condition, the CS (Clubsport) price decrease didn' help increasing sales, Wiedeking came 1992 and decided to discontinue 928 and 968 i.o. to decrease the number of varieties and different parts which made production too expensive. The Boxter (986) had 70% parts of the 911 and made production therefore much cheaper....

      Your 100% on point! 💯💯 These cars were much too expensive to build VS the newer models. By some estimates, the newer 996’s had 50% profit margins after a few upgrades. Just got my 1993 968 coupe. Great to drive, the balance is unreal. I am coming from a BMW 135i which was also very fun to drive, but I prefer the 968 just because it's something very different to anything else on the road. You're right, you just want to keep driving it and detailing it. Only problem with mine is a strong fuel smell in the cabin and I'm not sure what's up with that, hopefully nothing major.

      Nice! Congrats! 🍾 You’re going to like it more and more as the miles go by.
      The fuel smells usually come from the engine bay, could be lines or injectors. If some of the lines are old, they’ll produce strong fumes even if nothing is leaking. I’d get it checked out fast, don’t put it off till later. The good thing is that any experienced tech will pinpoint where the smell is coming in less that 15 minutes.

    Another new/recent video on the 968. The car was mis-understood when new (a 6 speed gearbox in 1991, crazy!), overpriced, not quick enough etc, etc. It seems that its taken 20+yrs for people to have finally appreciated the car. I've owned my 1995, metallic polar silver Sport (UK only) based on a CS and recognised by the factory as such since Aug 2003. Compared to the newer models 996, boxster 986/987, 997, cayman - it does feel dated (the design does go back to 1970 and the origin for the 924!) and perhaps down on power (240 bhp) but having driven it in various conditions - slow town driving, back seats down with rubbish in the back to my local tip/dump, touring around europe at different speeds on the autobahns, and in different weather, the 968 is just "quietly competent". Not shouty/loud - but it'll haul against M3 beem's, AMG Merc, TVR etc but perhaps with not the max performance that those cars have. Its handelling is "linear" - steering input, brakes etc, so you always know where you are and how close to limit of tyres, cornering etc. You can probably buy a faster car with quicker acceleration for less £/$ but as an overall package, its tough to find better IMHO, with great build integrity & reliability thrown in. You need to own/drive one for a while 12mths+ to appreciate it. Most road tests/testers borrow a car from a private owner or dealer and have to return it intact, so they don't get to explore its wider/full envelope, so their responses/comments are usually less than the car can actually deliver - but you've got to "rag" them (over 130mph) to get the benefits, then it comes alive. I don't regret owning mine for nearly 20yrs. All the best - whatever motor you own. Its the passion that counts.

      This☝️is a fantastic comment! This is exactly how it is! Lots of cars make a good first impression, but how are they to live with? That’s where the 968 comes in, you really grow to love it more and more as you spend time with it. And yess, it’s taken years for people to appreciate the 968…but thats changing fast. As Porsche and Ferrari increase their production numbers, newer exotics have become common online. There are no more 968’s being built, it will always be rare…I love that! 🙌🏻🙌🏻

The 944 and 928 being parents and the 993 would become a younger sibling with the “family resemblance” they were creating between the cars. Porsches term, not mine as referenced by the designer Harm Legay. The front they were trying to model similarly with the 993 look and the rear with the 928 (most evident in the bumper design). What other Porsche carries so much cool heritage? Great video…thanks!

      The hatch design is different in the 968/944….the glass is actually bigger. The rear window can separate from the frame, this can make it noisy. Let’s clear something up. The 968 is not a 944 basically. The 944 is the Audi Porsche. The 968 is completely a Porsche built 968, so a true Porsche. Totally different in built and set up, compared to the 944. That must be corrected and outspoken.

      I think it’s difficult to draw hard and fast lines when comparing this transaxle series from the 924, 944, and 968, given its iterative design spanning more than a decade. The 968 was a substantial redesign of the 944, but it was also its clear successor with numerous similarities. In fact, the designer of the 924, Harm Lagaaij, left Porsche in 1977, only to be later recalled back to Porsche in 1989 to design the 968, so one could argue the 968 is more connected to the “Audi car” you’re referencing, which really was more the 924… although built by Audi, it was still “designed” by Porsche. So again, it’s hard to draw lines in the sand. The 944 deviated from the 924’s Audi engine, with one truly built by Porsche. The 944 rolling chassis were built by Audi in Neckarsulm, then shipped to Stuttgart, where Porsche finished production with the engine and drivetrain. I will admit that it was with the 968 that “full” production was moved to Stuttgart, but they are all connected in some way with Porsche helming the designs.
