- Teishoku is a type of Japanese set meal, where all of the dishes are served together as a set. It's cheap and it's healthy. Teishoku dining is based on the ichiju-issai (or “one soup, one side”) traditional meals offered at Zen temples, which included a main dish, soup, rice, and pickles. The concept eventually spread throughout Japan & transformed into the convenient meal sets found at restaurants & cafeterias today.

I'm trying hard to acquire a taste for natto. It took time to acquire a taste for sushi and sashimi as well too, but now I love raw fish. It's worth it to keep trying.

@@ericsurf6, you have iron determination and discipline to keep trying that natto stuff. Especially since you could just... avoid eating it. So many other Westerners describe natto as amazingly vile. It is difficult to enjoy a food that stinks since the senses of smell and taste are so closely inter-connected.

Nice video Eric loved the touch screen ordering that was cool they need more of those here in us so you get more accurate orders. I loved how you mixed the natto and egg and said it was the worst thing ever yet still went back for a second try. Way to take one for #teamgetsome . Great video 👍

I cant watch him eat any thing and I have really tried but his manners are so bad with slobbering and noise he just makes me sick. SORRY
We have this restaurant too here in Singapore. One of my favorite places. I love natto. It's an acquired taste. Most people hated it because of its texture. You should have it with hot rice, the mustard and a bit of soy sauce. I think the natto serving is rather small if you add the yam and egg. Natto is lost and you just end up with a goopy mess.

@@xelafehc5036 Raw/runny eggs/fish eggs do not agree with me (just cant eat either for some reason, have tried multiple times), natto i have never tried so I can't honestly say.
Sushi/etc though i like for the most part, and most other Japanese meals.

Ericsurf6 my brother hates natto too but when he was a kid he loved the dried natto my mother made. Unfortunately he used to put them in his pocket to snack on later but would forget them when mom did laundry. They reconstituted. Not pretty.
Hey Eric! I just wanted to say that as someone who grew up in a traditional american household, I never got the chance to really experience all the different kinds of food out there. The past 4 years for me have been a huge eye-opener, as I have had the chance to venture out more during college. I love your channel, and Japanese food and culture is really awesome. Me and my friends plan to go for 2 or 3 weeks sometime next year. Can't wait to experience as much as I can! Keep making great content.

the nato beans remind me of something i had to have growing up in rarotonga its a drink made from noni juice.i couldnt believe how disgusting it was even the smell,every morning and night i had to drink a shot of it after the first month having it i absolutely love the flavour and dont mind the smell.🤗
I eat pretty much everything. I don't know if I could handle raw egg like that. I can eat raw cookie dough. But it's mixed in. Can't really tell. That is next level eating.

And FYI. Mackerel, being to prevalent to the point it’s bait primarily in the north east US. Should be a primary food item. That we should have fresh. Instead, it’s the sushi we AVOID here. Because we get what’s left over after the bait industry. When I catch them myself. Fresh. Unreal. But considered a budget gross item here in the restaurants.

I’d those machines were in America. Finally we in the states would ALL know how technologically NOT advanced we are. Japan leads the world in technology in all areas. I get how our countries are political allies. But I think it’s time the world got back to the old school sense of allies. Sharing technology, sharing information, sharing what comes down to a friendship that leads to better quality of life for all. Our connection with the Japanese and others must be stronger. I would not do the raw egg or natto. I have a queasy stomach already and that would ruin my life for a day or longer I believe. We've seen you eat the raw egg and natto several times over the years so you don't have to punish yourself for us any longer.

Please, please, please quit buying food to eat that you know and we know you do not like to eat. We all know your feelings to those beans and eating a raw egg with it!!!!! Why do you do it? We know there are people who love it and that is great for them but I am a big believer if you do not like something than you do not have to eat it. I much more enjoy watching you show us food that you enjoy when you eat it. If that picture on the menu when you were ordering was fried chicken I was wanting that very much. I love your videos, I would love to see in upcoming videos some Christmas things. Do they celebrate the holiday? I know they do not celebrate it like we do in the states but I have seen videos on You Tube that show a lot of decorations. I loved your videos on New Year's. Does your house celebrate Christmas? One thing I enjoy doing, is guessing what the flavor of the bite just taken is. Because everything pretty much sweet, sour,salty all have the same grimace on your face, before you tell us which it is. Too much fun. Lol

My sister had grabbed an egg at a breakfast buffet thinking it was hard boiled and cracked it at the table, and I was the one that happened to have just a nice bowl of rice for breakfast, so ended up giving it to me...surprised that I actually liked it lol that texture tho :

I think Eric is eating this way on purpose but for people in the comment section: usually you pour natto/ natto&egg&yam mixture on top of your bowl of rice and you lift the bowl towards your mouth. you're not supposed to eat with chopsticks as-is because it's slimy as hell lol

Man I'd forgotten about Yayoiken even though I've eaten there a couple of times. Going back to Japan in 2 weeks and my hotel is right by one so my dinner on the first day will be their tonkatsu teishoku.
