I’m always amazed how high class the foods are at school lunches. In any other country, the same type of food these kids are eating would be served in fine restaurants. And cost a lot per entree!!!
Go to a top tier school in your Country you will find the same quality if not better in some cases. It isn't a public school and it definitely is not cheap, likely costs more than your average University in a first world country per year.

My friend would bare hand pick up sub sandwiches straight out of the oven and hand them to me, i went to grab it and went "OWOWOWOWOWOW" and dropped it on the counter. He forgets that normal people can feel their hands
What a wonderful bond there is between the chef , his staff , and the pupils . He may be employed by a separate company, but you can tell he genuinely cares for the well-being of the pupils . He was really mindful of the impact that food can have on the emotional , physical, and intellectual well being of the pupils. Being honest I was sold as soon as I saw it was a rugby playing school 😊😊😊😊😊❤😊 .
They are a very strong sports high school winning many tournaments in Rugby. We would have liked to showcase that a bit more in this video but we don't always get permission.

I went to Osaka takashimaya this year in May 2024 and the food basement is SO AMAZING! All kinds of delicious pastries, cakes, chocolates, salad, sushi etc. And so very NEAT AND CLEAN!
Even though it is super busy and there is a limited budget, the food still looks tasty and nutritious. Great work by the chef and the other cafeteria staff !
I wish I could say that I had such positive memories of school lunches in GB . However we were not given choice , and you were not permitted to leave the dining hall until your plate was empty . I am in my late 50's .

well this seems like its not a normal high school since the chef did say they have a lot of athletes. in the US we have high schools that receive huge fundings because they have top notch sports programs like IMG. they probably receive great food to keep their players in great shape
This is one of the main reasons why Japanese people live the longest in the world. Everything starts in school. If the food in school is really nice and healthy, the kids will adapt to this food culture. Then, when the kids become adults it's more likely that they will stay healthy because they have adapted to this food culture. Then, when they get their own kids they will also cook healthy food at home and their kids will also benefit from healthy school lunches just like they did. Imagine if politicians around the world actually understood the importance of creating this type of culture and how important it is because it will lead to better citizens in society. Health is major important in life!
I think the food they're served is actually quite unhealthy - lots of deep-fried meat, white rice, salt, and few vegetables. Though I'm not surprised the food is popular among the students
@@T.K.T Still is much healthier than the ones in American public schools that are centered heavily on processed foods full of chemicals and high fructose corn syrup. To be fair though, I have seen both videos of what they serve in public schools vs what they serve for their cadets and I'm pretty sure that America value their cadets more than their public students since their cadets eat the same types of cuisine that these high school students do and some foods are even better served for their cadets.

For me Japan is the best country in the world, because the people are respectful, kind, serious and rigorous in everything they do and with humility too! I think that cuisine in Japan is essential for an active and productive population and for serving people.
Well it is indeed nice to live there but you have to take these factors into consideration too: -Toxic and very exhaustive work culture particularly in the big companies. -High cost of living particularly in highly urbanized areas. -A lot of people there are not very welcoming to foreigners if you are one. -A lot or most of them don't speak english.

ちなみに自分が現役の時は、新校舎建設中でした。
なので、この食堂ではなくまだ旧校舎の食堂を利用してましたね。
今は立派になって、もはや大学みたいで今の子達が羨ましいです笑
自分が現役の時、食堂には大変お世話になりまして、もう思い出がいっぱいですね。
今もこうやって後輩達が食堂で笑顔でいる姿を見ると、「あぁ、自分もこんな感じだったのかなぁ」としみじみに思います笑
自分は東を卒業して県外に出て、社会人になってからも国内を転々としている身ですが、行く先々で「高校は東福岡です」と言うと、みんな驚かれます。
スポーツ有名ですもんね笑
今もなお後輩達が頑張っているお陰で、自分とは直接的に関係性は無くても、『東福岡』という共通点があるお陰で周りの人と会話が弾むこともあり、これが自分としては大変嬉しく後輩達にとても感謝の気持ちでいっぱいです。
東で良かったと思っています。
そう思うと、東の多くの生徒を支えている食堂には感謝しかありませんね。

ヒガシ卒業OBのアラフィフです。現在の校舎や食堂は綺麗で羨ましいです。私が在学中の校舎は汚く1クラス55人の17クラス有りました。当時の学食は現在の食堂とは全く異なりますが、昼休み前は猛ダッシュで食堂に行ったものです。確かB定食が290円でした。私が大好きな定食はから揚げにタルタルソースをかけたのを白飯大盛りにしてワシワシ食べたものです。今でもB定食の味は忘れないし、美化しすぎてるかもしれませんが、社会人になって、様々な美味しい物を食べた中でも、ヒガシのB定食はホントに美味しかったです。正しく青春の味です。汗臭い男子校で昔は担任の先生に頭を叩かれました。昔はスマホは無かったので、好きな他校の女子にラブレターを渡しました。見事にフラレました!😅在校生の皆さん、後悔のない学校生活を送ってください。

私も先輩と同じく昔の校舎で学んでおり、1クラス45名程で確か20クラスありました。
当時はA定B定が確か390円でした。
定食だけでは足りず、オニ唐追加でタルタルと唐辛子を山のように掛けて食べたのは良い思い出です。
私も社会人となって様々な美味しいものを食べましたが、ヒガシの学食の美味さは格別ですね。まさに青春の味です。
我々の世代も先生方にシバかれていましたが、本当に誇りに思える学校です。
ようやく皆が携帯を持ち出した頃で、他校の女の子にメールを送りまくってましたが間もなく共学になるとの事ですね。
在校生の皆様、高校生の1日はかけがえのないとても大切な1日ですので、是非悔いのない学校生活を送ってください。
コメントありがとうございます。伝え忘れてました。在学中私達の時代は、昼休み迄お腹空くので、休み時間の度に食堂に菓子パンとリッチコーヒーを食べてました。そうそうB定食のから揚げは暗黙の了解でデミグラスソースを私はあえてタルタルソースにリクエストしていました。また、A定食も有りました。値段は250円のワンプレートでした。朝の課外授業の前に食堂で130円のうどんとふりかけかけ放題の130円のどんぶり白飯を食べていました。学校生活で記憶に有るのは、体育祭と文化祭は2年おきに開催してました。校庭も今みたいに人工芝ではなく、土でした。確か3号線渡る前にすかいらーくが有って、渡ったらローソンがあり買食いしながら、直線の道路を歩いていました。私は大学を卒業後、地元福岡を離れ、関東に居ますが、キザな言い方ですが、就職で福岡空港から飛立つ時に心は博多に置いて来たつもり(都会には染まらないと言う意味)です。美化しすぎてごめんなさい。

Someone like me who is particular about cleanliness and orderliness, japan is a dream country for me, and i might soon tour it in near future

This is how school dinners should be... These kids are EXCITED to eat... Think of all the sorry excuses for food we were served in the UK. Think of how much happier and healthier kids would be with this.

Lovely Chef! He really enjoys cooking for these kids. You know he's well experienced, see him separating those chicken karaage while cooking it with bare hands.
This is the happiest chef I have ever met.
The man has a purpose and that he tangibly affects lives positively of every student in this school.
If you observe closely, you'll notice there are no visibly obese children in the video. In Japan, people predominantly consume whole foods, with processed items being relatively rare. Even their vending machine Cokle are exceptionally expensive - I wonder if that's intentional to discourage purchases.
