    Nice to know even wrestling has "forms" to help truly internalize the combative techniques.

    • @ghostdude45
      @ghostdude45 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Logan-zv4xg Little known fact about forms/kata in kung fu and other martial arts systems are that they were constructed in part to be a way to shadow box or shadow wrestle.
      They serve the purpose of being a catalog of techniques, yes, and are even a way to demonstrate your art, but forms are a way internalize the proper way to move your body for combat... So long as you have the right context for each technique present in the form.
      For instance, a technique that can be found in Tai Chi is a golf swing tackdown commonly found in catch wrestling.
      So when I say shadow wrestling is a "form", I am by no means naive to the fact that it isn't what most consider a form- empty dance that is for performance. I mean to put it in the proper context: a means to practice your technique in a solo setting.
      That is my meaning.

    Hi! In the next period my son will start wrestling and I would like to ask you, since you have so much experience, what would be the 3 main things that make the difference between a good young athlete and an average one and what should we focus on at the beginning, more in order to create a solid base? Thanks a lot!

    • @KOLATCOM

      Assuming he is at least 12, 13 or 14.
      1. He should be completely self-motivated and love it more than anything because it will get very hard and that's the only way he will see it through.
      2. He should always be asking questions and learning from everyone seeking out the best available training partners and coaches.
      3. He should train and compete year round and aim for 100 off-season matches in freestyle and Greco-Roman.

    Why cross your feet when moving forward? Why not stay in a staggered stance, like a boxer?

    • @KOLATCOM
      @KOLATCOM  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Because this is not boxing and you have to change levels and penetrate when attacking the legs. Also, crossing only applies to lateral movement. There are no crossing off legs at all in wrestling. The penetration step is not crossing legs it is just stepping while moving forward with power for the attack.

    • @AmericanJohnGrass
      @AmericanJohnGrass 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@KOLATCOM got you. That makes sense. Also, is it illegal to move backwards in wrestling? If you could move backwards and make your opponent step forward, you could trap them and shoot between their forward steps, while they are on one leg. If that makes sense.
      Or just by deceiving the distance and making them step a leg into range

    Im a new coach, im wondering why he would want a wrestler to move around the whole room when shadow wrestling. My problem with my kids when shadow wrestling is there doing too much walking and not enough working. I would think if you would stay in a tight circle like he demonstrated at the end that would be more rewarding for the wrestler, and also teach them to stay in the center of the mat instead of going outside and having to worry about getting hit with stalling or taking your opponent out of bounds when finishing the shot. which is a waste of time and energy. I think this is an amazing video and i like everything hes showing i just don't understand how moving around would be helpful. Can anybody explain please?
