My son is 6 and half, green belt tkd. I spare w him so he can be ready to spar w the bigger kids, and let me tell you that his kicks hit hard, whem he catches me he leaves bruises on my thighs lol. I wouldnt wanna catch a round kick to the face or liver by a grown person
Tips to make Taekwondo useful -Kick through the target -Hit with intent (Not just points, inflicting pain can be good to stun your opponent) -Kick through the target -Don't over complicate kicks (But still keep unpredictability) -Please learn boxing -Train hard and right -Be strong not foot fencing fast (Taekwondo kicks with huge leg muscles can hurt someone really badly)
More importantly they are mastering techniques that are ineffective in a street fight. In the early 1990s - when I started Taekwondo - you knew, as a black belt, competing in the US Open, if you made a mistake you were knocked out with a hook kick. Those days are gone - and the masses have moved to BJJ…

No Martial Art can fully prepare someone for a street fight, cuz at the end of the day real fights have no rules and martial arts all compete within a rule set. There are some that definitely prepare you better than others. These high level taekwondo athletes have the basic kicks down. Roundhouse kicks, back kicks, side kicks, front kicks etc. Which can help in any fight and are taught across most striking arts. These other techniques that they learn are specific to the sport aspect of taekwondo. You may think their kicks lack power etc but trust me… They kick harder than it looks. Occasionally you do get those tappy kicks meant purely to score but like I said those are meant for the sport aspect of the martial art There are other aspects of taekwondo like hoosinsul which aim to teach more practical self defense techniques. They are still used by the South Korean military and other armies around Asia.

Hey, ensure you stretch your achilles properly and explosive exercises with them ,so they will be use of those explosive moves. you should a face bar to protect your nose while in sparring. Work on none telegraph kicks and punches too. Hard side kicks will drop your opponents guards if they have them. Target your opponents heads, midsections with liver kicks. You have sparr. I live your punches. cardios should be incorporated while sparring practices. Nutrition is a most. Sleep is a most. Vitamins are so important. No Peds!

I am would been your top opponent. I had speed like Bill Wallace and better on both legs and great punching power. I missed the Olympic in 1976 because USA did not go. I later won the 1988 Long Beach, CA World Korean Karate Light heavy weight Black Belt championship. I coached other karate instructors' students of other different styles to win karate tournaments, but you are a great fighter and you love it like i did.. Keep training. Oh, yeah, I still have speed in my legs but key is not to telegraph. Train, train with gear at all times. In practice get head gear that covers the nose while in training and use foot gear and gloves with pads in sparring. cardio should be done while sparrings. Running stifles your kicks. Watch it.don't do MMa. do movies. You need your brain for future stuff. CTe is serious. Keep at least one guard up near the temple lobe and tuck chin like Bruce Lee said. Pro Karate would be safer for you.
I would appreciate if you could not curse; if you cannot control the tongue, you cannot control the body. Most South American old-school boxers I've met see cursing as a sign of weakness, incompetence, and ignorance even when they punched six hundred pound bags sixty hours a week. People from Brazil next door were terrified of them even back then.
Won all my kickboxing fights as a TKD guy 😅.. But I trained hands a lot, there’s a couple of TKD guys that can punch… But I agree with you, not many can and most blow their steam trying to kick too much against other martial artists

And before you bring up the ‘TKD won’t work in a street fight’ argument… Taekwondo has different aspects to it. Theres the sport aspect which is known ti many and the practical self defence aspect called hoosinsul which is still used in the Korean and many other Asian militaries. A boxer learned in seconds how punches alone are dangerously effective against people faster than Khabib using takedowns when done properly, no matter how they set it up and regardess of the height involved. I use that for the students that take boxing as a reminder that you don't need grappling or kicks to be dangerous; punches alone kill when done properly, bare knuckled like we do all the time or not.

I don’t see any applicability to the cable punch exercise, in which you are kneeling on the ground. Kicking and punching power comes from the legs and rotation of the body while standing up. Get rid of that exercise!
This exercise is to increase the power of punches by strengthening the core muscles, responsible for stabilizing the body and for rotation, and the muscles responsible for extending the arms. Punches are not just about the legs, there is a complex biomechanics involved that covers the entire body. That's why it's important to do exercises that isolate certain areas to strengthen specific muscle groups.
If you think you know him after 3 minutes, you have no clue. This guy is the number 2 ranked fighter in the world and can hit hard and fast enough with any kick to knock you out. Trust me, I've seen him in action firsthand on numerous occasions.
His technique isn't good for his level, and he would lose 10/10 times if he fought a 1980s or 1990s TKB Black Belt who was in his fighting class, today. I'm sure if he was trained during the good old days, he would be an outstanding competitor.

A non-special forces member (U.S. Army from the Vietnam Conflict) immediately reached for my jugular in an attempt to rip it out, and had a counter to my counter; thailand muay thai is people toying around in a game compared to that alone, but the man who trained with the ROK Army in tae-kwon-do instead went for trying to immediately break my neck in two and also had a counter to my counter, though he was far faster and his knuckles had thick calluses on all of them. They were all defeated, but ROK soldiers in the White Horse and Tiger divisions were the only ones that came remotely close to what we do, and still nowehere near for One reason they lacked: Obedience to the LORD God of Israel.
