    Bummed that it ended like that, but glad the creator was self aware enough to recognize that the project would be unable to be finished and be public about it. It would feel a lot worse if I am Sophie was just abandoned without any explanation.

    • @Yatukih_001

      I am Sophie is such well done because the creators decided to allow the plot to build up as a result of a cooperation between all involved instead of just one or a few being in control, which usually results in the collapse of any big project. Its the formula used to create all masterpieces. We call it agenda - free directing. Agenda - based directing puts the acting crew and the people behind them at risk because one guy controls everything. Rarely one woman controls everything but in the end in an agenda - based directing environment you have no control over your ideas and feel like a prisoner of war. When I am Sophie was being made this formula was thrown out of the window and its reverse was used instead. This allowed the main actress and all the other actors and rest of the acting crew and producers to come each up with their own ideas about how to keep the show going.

      Lmao the only thing they did was grab people’s attention. Once they had it they decided to can the project because I assume they got whatever grade they needed for the project and so they had no reason to complete it. I’m convinced they never really had a true end game to the story so they were never gonna finish it.

    No project is ever worth sacrificing your wellbeing for. Sometimes, you just have to call it quits--even if a project makes a lot of other people happy, if it doesn't make YOU happy, then sometimes you just have to hang it up. It's unfortunate, but even if the story isn't finished, the impact that I Am Sophie had is undeniable, and it's going to be up there with the legendary unfiction series. Its an excellent allegory.

    Okay but hear me out really quick with the theory/idea I just thought of: if Sophie was a program, then the program is creating Sophie with whatever assets are available to it, at least, that’s what I’m assuming here.
    This is all based on that assumption. This program has now created a “real” person, but now has to make sure that the illusion can be believed. If this is for companionship, then this “person” needs to have assets that make it believable. A backstory, and “co-stars” that serve to expand that program.
    So the people from the company, like the “manager” for Sophie, aren’t real either. They are assets created from what this program has available. It can’t make a person from nothing, that’s why they based Sophie off of a girl that was real. She was alive at one point. So that can also mean it can use references from living individuals as well as deceased.
    Sophie was the main program running, while the extras were assets built based on available references for the program to build upon in order to allow the illusion of Sophie to be more believable.
    …I’m also on my third cup of coffee so I feel like Charlie in Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia rn. This is my Pepe Silva.

    • @peachyqueen4399
      @peachyqueen4399 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree that I Am Sophie was a great ride. However, hugely disagree that it was better to leave it hanging the way Tom & the crew did.
      I understand the task getting to big, mentally, financially & emotionally. But it still hurts the project, period.
      We could have all formed theories & not had to worry about too many unanswered questions... Until they introduced the idea, out of no where, that maybe Sophie had been an AI all along.
      At that point, any theory that anyone had, was completely blown out of the water. Of all of the things that could have happened next, absolutely no one was thinking Sophie would have been an AI.
      Leaving the project open & unfinished is one thing. Leaving it open & unfinished directly after veering so far out into left field, for what we all can only assume is no reason (since the whole project now goes no where) is a different thing entirely.
      Regardless, I think I Am Sophie will permanently be synonymous with the topics of Unfiction & ARG. They told (part of) an awesome story & it was a good ride during a year that was draining us all.

    I get it. I absolutely understand ending a project early when it comes down to aspects like being emotionally draining, physically exhausting, or damaging your own personal well being. Nothing is worth giving yourself entirely for your art.
    However…
    The “finality” of the project’s end does give me a slight bad taste in my mouth. It’s one thing to suffer a type of burn out, pause the story, and come back weeks, months, even years later. It happens all the time in ARG and unfiction. For it to just be over in a state where even if the creator decides to come back later down the road and pick the saga back up, only can’t because the story was already explained and given away because he currently has no plans to continue, that’s the part I have a few issues with.

    • @Geospasmic

      @TheChrisHype 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@Geospasmic Yeah, I get that, but I don’t see how dumping answers solves the problem. Fandom has an aspect of changing the question from “what” to “how” in situations like this.

    • @Geospasmic
      @Geospasmic 3 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      @@TheChrisHype I think the creator has to make those choices based on what's best for them. I'm sure he didn't do it lightly, he would have considered the consequences. It was his own work, after all. But leaving open questions wouldn't let him close that chapter of his creative life properly. Other people might have chosen differently, but I can sympathize with wanting to put something to rest and not deal with it anymore.

      @@Geospasmic 100%. That work will always exist in whichever state the creator chose to put it out. As an audience I don't think we're entitled to expect anything specific from the content of a creator's work, at least if they're producing it for free (and arguably even if it has a commercial release, since what we're paying for is fundamentally the artist's vision). What happens after that work gets put out there is down to the audience, but up until that point we get what we're given

  • @starcrossedother
    @starcrossedother 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Alright, so I know this video is nearly a year old but I’m gonna go head and supply my theory. So, recall how Tom Ransom states that the end of the series was the homeless man shooting himself in the head. I believe that the reason this is the end of I am Sophie is because the man is choosing to terminate the digital reality held on the Glaucus device. The company, Crateuas Industries, is named after the Ancient Greek physician who is best known for his work on categorizing herbs. Why is this relevant? The Glaucus device is named after Scylla’s lover who was once a man, specifically a lowly seafarer, who became a immortal by consuming a magical herb. Thus, the story ends with a rejection of the digital immortality offered by the Glaucus device, the man refuses to supplant reality with the digital one which is a culmination of the various themes in the web series.

    I personally think the first art of this series was amazing, and its climax in the horror house was a perfect place for it to end. I didn't really go for the expanded lore of the second part, but I often feel that way about horror fiction. The less I understand, the more intrigued I am. When stuff gets too fleshed out, I lose interest.

    Such conflicting feeling on this project. Its brilliance is exactly why it was sooo disappointing. I'm actually put in mind of LOST - so many ideas thrown out, so much invested in trying to piece things together, excited anticipation and clue hunting....only to be met with a metaphorical shrug.
    Production values off the chart, power house performances, fantastic effects...but the plot got garbled and without closure.
    Argh i don't know how to feel.
    To paraphrase the Robot Devil - This unfiction is as disappointing as it is brilliant.
