    Fantastic comparison, I've been following your series for a while now and to be honest, you deserve way more recognition for the work you put into each video! The amount of scrutiny every adapter gets is mind boggling.
    Currently "daily driving" the Ugreen Nexode 100w wall version, but I experience wierd power delivery fluctuations while charging my Lenovo Legion 5 Pro laptop with the supposed 100w. Device often switches rapidly between charging and not charging, that combined with the lack of PFC on all modes and too much THD as shown in your video, it's a no-go for me currently. Luckily got it for a reasonable price (€65 in the EU).
    Do your Amazon affiliate purchases also work with EU sales? Christmas is near, so I'm looking for a replacement. The Baseus 100w wall version might be a solid option as you suggest, but how bad is the coil whine in real life? Or should I wait for your complete 140w charger breakdown to have a more future-proof option?
    Keep up the good work!

      Thanks! I try to cover a lot. It is impossible to cover everything. I really need to make better icons, ha. Anyway, that UGREEN wall adapter was quite disappointing and even more confusing that they have the exact same model in the the desktop version that does have power factor correction. Anyway, the affiliate links work some places and not others, no big deal either way, I appreciate the thought. I generally operate on the edge so what you all get in videos is what I know. I do have over 50 more to test in house no way I'll get through that much by then. On the 100W is quiet, in a extremely quiet room you might here a little. The 120W is very noticeable. At this point, I'd go for the Baseus.

    I have tried to understand the concenept of PPS. If a adapter says it has pps of 11V, does it mean it goes vary it voltage range from 5-11V ? is that mean I can charge my ancient USB-C with no standard protocol devices with that charger ? it will be great if you make a video to explain the PPS

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  ปีที่แล้ว

      It can vary the voltage, yes. But the device decides how many volts it needs. The problem with this is the device decides not the power adapter, so most devices won't turn this mode on so a basic power device will only consume 5V from the adapter. If it doesn't have the correct cable / wiring in the older device that may have a USB C port, it also may not work with a 'smart' adapter even if only 5V. There are adapters or triggers like I use that can force these different modes but that is a little more complicated.

    I have the apple 20W and anker 18W nano power supplies, the anker makes a high pitched noise when in use while the apple one is silent (I tried 3 different anker 18W power supplies and they all have this). Is there a way you can test power supplies for this coil whine?

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do listen for it. I do mention it in videos when it's audible but it is a short bit usually so easy to get skipped and the 'studio' isn't silent, actually the coil whine from the power meter is awful! The old one buzzed, had to put a 60Hz cut filter on every video. The Baseus 120W is famous for its squeal, the Insignia adapters also had some.
      I could make it happen though money is the issue there. It is expensive, and it isn't something manufactures want to advertise so no one would pay for this (I would with a much larger YT channel, ha). Would need a comprehensive plan, a lot of adapters probably won't make noise so they will probably need some kind of abuse cycle, vibration table, drop tests to simulate wear and tear.. then chamber time in an acoustic anechoic chamber is big $$$. It isn't impossible but it takes a bit more than my current resources to make it happen.

    Great roundup of all the power adapters that you've tested thus far. Basseus is still on top for 100w. But DongGone had to take the lead for the over 100w class doggone. Your gonna invent a bulky desktop charger called, All Things In One Place. Its gonna have at least 10 USB ports on it, its going to be capable of 200W per port, that means it will have a total of 2000W capacity. It may pop your home breaker, but hey, at least it will look dam sexy while it does it baby woohoo!

      @@AllThingsOnePlace Thanks for sharing this! Annoyingly a lot of the brands aren't available in the UK. If I want something decent and 65w+ with multiple ports, my choices are basically Anker at like £90 or importing SlimQ from the States. No Baseus, HyperJuice or Hyphen-X in the UK unfortunately, and the more affordable options from UGreen (65w) and Tecknet (65w) perform poorly with no PFC it seems.

    Thanks for the informative video. I believe there is a typo on the 20w UGREEN model name (it should be cd241 instead of cd271). Regarding the best 30w models aren't there better options according to past videos you have made and the pqsapp like the Belkin Boost WCH001dq and the UGREEN cd127? Also if i can find the UGREEN cd127 (30w) for the same price as the UGREEN cd241 (20w) which in your opinion is the better deal provided i will use it mostly to charge a phone?

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nice work! The 20W UGREEN gets the go because it has a safety listing (although not country specific, it has one). The 30W doesn't so it is out. The belkin is a great choice also but it is also bulkier and has less modes of operation so the Google I gave the overall win. I had to draw the line somewhere on the video. I did consider putting both in but I went with overall feature count and size as factors also this time, not strictly power performance as I usually do. The google also beat the belkin in idle performance but that is a tiny part of the factor. Either way great finds!

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      So, in general, the EU version will have higher idle consumption, lower current draw (slight efficiency advantage at full power), but worse power factor, in general the terms should be near a wash for the PQS... I say should because I haven't actually tested that yet, this is based on data from manufacturers and development kits.

    Would using a 30w ugreen charger make my iPhone battery life degrade faster?

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      On older devices, maybe. On the current generation, no, the battery degrades at essentially the same rate with all charging/discharging cycles. It would be difficult to quantify differences in 5W charging degradation versus 30W (max rate for iphone, they won't charge near this rate for long). Charging too fast is a problem but the battery chargers (in the phone) are a lot smarter now and they won't charge faster than the known safe level (obviously barring a defect or a problem in which case not a charging fault). There is tons of detail behind this that I couldn't possible know but in general the newer devices are tested (by manufacturers) to be safe with whatever charge level they ship with.

    What chargers do not shut off to renegotiate when another device is plugged in? I need a dual port 110W (100w, 65w+45w) with all voltages (5,9,12,15,20) with PPS and PFC. Anker seems to have left out 12V on all of their chargers. I also do not want a huge brick thats blocks adjacent wall outlets, nor a desktop charger, just a wall charger. What would be my best option? Not shutting off is primary concern, and size is secondary. I use USB PD as a power supply for a lot of projects and to power some mini pcs and nintendo switch but upon plugging something else in, they shut off. What charger would you recommend for me? The only one I can think of is the Wotobeus 200W, it gets hot at 200W, still warm at 100W, but it does have two USB C ports that won't turn off. I actually use it to power the lighting for all of my videos. As soon as you use a 3rd port it does the power sharing dance.

    I think for most people the middle of the road 65w chargers make the most sense. They can charge phones/tablets/laptops, are affordable and can be an everyday carry in the backpack as opposed to 100w chargers which are expensive and bulky imo. And most people don't need that kinda power (yet). So i would love if companies released better options in that category. Hope to see you cover more of these 65w ones. Cheers!

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, there are some real cheap 65w options (the amazon 65W stands out), light/cheap/relatively efficient, but only one port and no PPS. You can see the shift that happens at the 100w category, although price isn't really higher on average, they are bulkier (although does 85 CC to 140 CC make that much difference compared to a 1200 CC laptop), they are easily twice the weight, but again, 100 grams to 200 grams versus a 2000g laptop. I understand these versus a phone are more significant.

    As a techy (and Industrial Designer) I LOVE your reviews... but feel like you're missing out on real life scenarios in every. single. review. you give, which can be make or break these products. One HUGE quality of life example: SO many chargers have issues with resetting to redistribute power as they charge. This becomes a real problem in a super common situations like charging your laptop, phone, and something low power like an Apple Watch, e-paper reader, or 0.5A-charging camera battery, especially while you sleep. Reports are rampant amongst nearly ALL brands about the charger freaking out and resetting all the larger devices ALL NIGHT LONG, OVER AND OVER AGAIN, because they think the low-power device - once it drops to its really low (think ~0.12A or whatnot) charging after it's ~80% charged, the charger resets to redistribute power... over and over again... lighting up the room while you're sleeping, making reset/charging beeps, and sometimes not charging anything at all because this is so constant.
    Two examples I have personal experience with: Anker 737 120w you gave a good review to does this constantly. The older Anker 736 which you gave a really bad review to does not (or to a WAY, way, lesser extent). Myself personally, I could care less if one is more efficient than the other, or more on-point with it's voltage/amperage points and such... if the 'lesser quality' one (736) can actually charge my devices and not wake me and/or significant other up, then that is indeed the 'better' charger, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. (FYI, Anker revised the 737 and 735, but it was several months AFTER you reviewed them - and they're still not perfect).
    I could go on and on about other quality of life fails on products, that despite their great technical prowess, just make them horrible products to live with, or travel with. Couple quick examples: certain ones with LED lights being so bright certain people have trouble sleeping; or the stupid torpedo shaped ones SO many makers are going towards (so bad that some resort to suction cup plates to hold them in the socket... really?) which should have NEVER made it past pre-production prototypes. I totally understand you're ALL about how well these do what they're meant to do (deliver power), and that's great (again, LOVE your videos), but recommending multiple products which in real-life just, well, suck, and are unusable, isn't doing anybody any good.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the detailed comment! I do go back and forth on talking about the renegotiation and distribution thing. The biggest issue is it is so device dependent. I have seen two apple watches on the same charger one will behave poorly and one will work fine. Same generation product. So, it is very difficult to technically review on the basis of variability. I could add a statement saying that chargers may or may not renegotiate during use/device dependent but I don't think that adds much value. I heard about one Anker thing, there was a software update for supporting the non-standard charging of things like the steam deck (why the steam uses non-standard charging is a total mystery to me). PD chip can't power the device and charge at the same time or something... so it overloads the 9V circuit and causes resets.
      In general I haven't found any perfect USB charger. There is a reason why the large market exists. Variability in both devices and protocols means no one charger will ever be happy charging everything, even with the standard in place. I would say that a larger charger like the 737 needs to have some kind of heavy continuous load to keep it awake, like powering a small PC or something. I have noticed using two USB A ports will cause one to reset continuously on some adapters. There are some adapters geared at fixing this, I have one queued up. This is also one reason why I like the smaller adapters, 30W range, it'll charge anything and it can't renegotiate. They all just need to bump the quality up a little. I'd use three or four of those as opposed to one larger multi-adapter if the efficiency was there. I should get the short out on the renegotiation that happens every time I turn on the lights for making videos.
      I actually leave my Baseus plugged in for overnight charging, outside the bed room, as a night light. Double duty. The light just right to not crash into the wall... but way too bright for a bed room. I definitely focus on the power side of things though since that's what I know! I'm no designer... see horrible icon for the channel and my terrible web site. So bad, haha.

       @AllThingsOnePlace Thank YOU as well for the detailed response. And how did you know I was talking about the Baseus charger/night-light combo? (I've literally desoldered those LEDs before... but these things usually use plastic welded/glued cases so that's hard anymore lol).
      So the thing is... there are so few giving detailed reviews like yours... but if the people whom others trust for this type of information (i.e. you) started talking more about actual USABILITY, as in real life situations, AND proper charging prowess, I would hope your watchers, then the manufacturers themselves, would start taking things like this into account when they design products... I would love to see this weighed heavier the overall scores you give as well - usability should be as heavily weighted as anything else you rate on IMO (otherwise what good is a product if you really can't use it in real life?).
      One case and point is Ankers newer 737 vs. older 736. I would STILL consider the 736 the clear winner... because I can charge any of the 3x laptops in my house, plus any two phones, and so far any of my 10+ smaller things ALL at the same time... which I can't do on the 737 I returned (which Anker confirmed, as of last week, Amazon is STILL selling the older non-revised version... mixed in with the new revision fyi... and new STILL has similar issues). BUT, I totally get that like you said this can be TOTALLY arbitrary depended on the persons exact things they're charging (which makes it hard to quantify a good vs. bad vs. OK product...).
      VERY interested in higher power (MIN is 65 watts for me... 30w for lower end laptop/MacBook Air + ~15W for USB hub -mine has like zero ports + 18w for phone) device where each port can NOT be affected by the other port (especially for those low power charging devices).

    You recommend Baseus 100W as good adapter. But I see in reviews it has problems with devices connecting/disconnecting charging. As I understand when device connected or disconnected it resets/renegotiates all other connected ports. So if non battery powered device is used it will reset it, because power will be switched of for short time. For example a router. Also some people in reviews complained macbooks is starting/stopping charging constantly while being fully charged.

      Since the phone manages charging, I don't think there's a best for phone battery option. The common belief is charging slower makes the battery last longer depending on the device this could be true. Charging at 60 watts versus 20 watts for a phone battery for example does probably have some negative effects. I like the 20-30W chargers and in this arena the Anker chargers are better.

      There is very little information on the product charging info, but based on the fact that it comes with a USB A to C cable it is probably older-style charging, so USB A being 5V, the main issue is whether or not it needs something like QC charging, which they don't mention and may actually be required. The most compatible thing I can think of is the Baseus desktop Gan3 100W adapter as it has pretty wide compatibility across the A and C ports.

    going to build a 7ah 4s lifepo4 battery for my 55 liter fridge. it uses about 140w/day right now. was going to get a high efficiency ~20watt usbc adaptor and i think connect it to a 15v usbc pd trigger board and wire that into a solar pwm charge controller. im hoping the battery will give me better portable use (my car turns off its 12v dc plugs when off) and i also want the fridge to work for awhile if there is a power outage. im thinking a ~20w usbc power brick will cut the power consumption by another ~20%. i got the idea from the ecoflo glacier fridge which i am pretty sure is using the same exact strategy. maybe get a small ~50w solar panel and add an xd connector or something just like the ecoflo

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm assuming wh/day... if 140w is the power consumption while on, then you would need run time to find out the wh. The battery pack you describe is only 100 wh, and if the fridge is using 140w while on that will be very demanding on that battery pack and likely lead to overheating also you'll only get 60-70 wh out of the pack due to inefficiency. The charging method sounds like it might work with enough storage. 20W times 24hr is 480wh, so theoretically enough energy is available. The issue there is the tiny USB bricks are not made for full time use, so they'll overheat and fail early. In terms of cutting power consumption, no, with converters and extra pieces you will likely lose 20-40% of the energy you put in.

      i think there are a few issues i need to work out like using the load on the solar pwm controller vs directly wiring into the battery... i am pretty sure i can charge the 14.5v nominal lifepo4 brick with a 15v usbc pd trigger board if i put the pwm controller in-between? its just like a 15v ~50w solar panel after all?

  • @johnathankrage83
    @johnathankrage83 ปีที่แล้ว

    Okay, so based on your review I ended up ordering (in addition to the Baseus 3 port charger) the Amazon Basics single port charger for my new Moto Edge+ (2023), but was disappointed to find it will only use the 9v 3a (27w) charging mode. The phone is capable of 68w, and the charger is capable of 65w, so I don't know what's going on but 27w is all that's getting transferred between them. That's not enough of a bump to make it worth keeping when I have a half dozen of the Anker Nano 20w chargers which are fully utilized.
    I also noticed that even though my phone is capable of 68w charging, it only stays that high for a min before dropping to 50w and then shortly after dropping to 40w where it stays for a while. So 68w is almost entirely an advertising gimmick as it barely uses that much at all. So I ordered the Anker 313 45w after watching your review of that model too and sure enough it works great. Very happy with it and it's very compact and only $18 for prime members. 😁 Still disappointed in the Amazon charger though. Weird.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the issue with the Amazon basics charger is that it is PD fixed voltage only. No PPS modes. The other thing is that yes, the high wattage charging on phones is a gimmick, the battery would swell almost immediately and fail if you forced that many watts in on a regular basis and over the whole charge cycle. The phones measure temperature and charge level to charge safely and as fast as possible. The 45W Anker seems like a good middle ground.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am not sure on the hub usage with the tablet. The phone should work with any charger with PPS and over 25W capability. So, the Google 30W or one of its siblings. For the larger device, obviously, the Samsung 45W comes to mind. But to power multiple things, and keep the hub powered you may need to get a dedicated power adapter for the hub, single port, so it doesn't turn off every time you plug your phone in (USB negotiation), you may not need 100W but you can certainly go with something in this range. The question is how it will deal with PPS to your device. I don't think a hub will pass PPS so super fast charging probably goes away.

    This is a great video and you touched on how there was going to be a lot of technical info, but I wanted to provide some feedback from someone that is fairly intelligent, but not in the electrical engineer world.
    You talk way too fast. I can absorb a lot of new info, but not at breakneck speeds. You are speaking at a speed as if you are talking to colleagues rather than the DIY/enthusiast crowd, who are smart and can understand the concepts but may need to resurface a lot of the information you are referencing. I know, I can slow the video down manually, but you might find you appeal to a larger DIY audience if you make it more accessible by simply slowing to a teacher’s pace. Having said that, this is golden info! You are a god among men.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace

      Haha, yeah, the YT pace is generally faster than normal (200+wpm is normal, I tend to be 230 - 250 wpm though I even slow it down sometimes). I think normal teaching pace is far too slow (150 wpm) but I 100 percent agree I need to slow it down a bit. Maybe aim for 190 wpm. I have the "video must be about 10 minutes" thing so even when the script is longer I tend to speak faster to cram it in. Some transitions and sound breaks will give some time to absorb data as well. It is all production time. I usually am finishing the video day before or even day of release so I need to break that habit as well but with a full time job, it is usually crunch time to get it done.

      I'm not sure, I use the 165W Satechi with all of my apple products, watch, airpods, phone, etc. It doesn't over charge anything. The device decides how much power to use during charging. If the device decides it can pull more current and more is available in the charger, the device side may not have proper protection to keep the power regulated to a safe level causing failure of either the charging circuity in the device or the battery. This trend is slowly getting better but there are still a lot of devices out there that will allow faster charging when they really can't support it. If the 5W brick works stick with it.

    I am looking for a small usb-c pd 20W+ (and usb-a qc 3.0) that can be used at the same time.
    2 usb-c and one usb-a is also fine as long as I can charge at 2 devices at the same time at minimum 20w of more PD and one at 18w qc 3.0. Now I have a quite bulky 45W GC adapter that has a usb-c pd/qc that can either charge my phone with usb-c to usb-c at 18w or my powerbank at 40w but when I charge my powerbank, the regular usb-a is not qc 3.0. I also have a 35W PD20W usb-c +QC3.0 usb-a but the usb-a is only providing 18w when the usb-c is not in use. I do have a larger 100w adapter but I want something less bulky. What are my options without having to buy 2-3 to know what will do the job? Thanks in advance, really love your reviews.

      So I ordered a 65w voomy USB adapter that can simultaneously provide 60w usb c pd and qc 3.0 on its usb a or 40w on output 1 and 20w on output 2, both usb c. It cannot provide qc 3.0 on its usb a when output 2 is used but that doesn't matter. I found a small enough (65w) power adapter.

      That's good to hear you found something that works. Yeah, there are so many options out there now it is difficult to even attempt to test 10% of what's available. Of the 65W options I've tested so far none really impressed me so most often I say just step it up to the 100W size adapter but they do have more bulk as a trade off. I have some really compact 65W ones to review eventually.

    I admit that I don't much knowledge in this area, but why would I go for the desktop charger version of Baseus 100W if I could have the same thing (just assuming) by getting the wall charger and it would also be more portable. Is there a really important detail that I'm missing about the desktop charger having some benefits over the other version? Thanks in advance.
    Edit: More context, most of the time I'll probably use my charger to charge both my MacBook Pro M3 and Pixel 6, and maybe rarely I would have one more phone.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The desktop versus wall type shouldn’t have any advantage but different companies do build them with variations. If just a phone and a laptop any 100 watt adapter should be reasonable.

      @@AllThingsOnePlace I see, I'll go for the wall charger then as it's more portable. Then again I'd have another issue between picking between the 4 ports GaN2 one vs the 2 ports GaN5 one. Probably will go with the 4 ports one tho as it was more tested and .. yeah .. it has more ports, rather than risking it for something that wasn't that much tested and with less ports overall. Cool, thanks a lot! After watching plenty of your videos, finally decided with confidence on what adapter to get. Keep up the good work!

    Hey your video was very informative! I have a monster led sound reactive light strip that’s 6ft long and meant to connect with the tv’s USB port. I have a 50-55” Vizio flat screen and when I plug the strip into it, it is flickering the white light and the IR remote will not respond to the light strip(yes I pulled the plastic out of the battery compartment and swapped for a in use working battery to the remote). I saw another video on TH-cam and and the guy said it was the adapter not providing enough power to cause it to work properly. Any suggestion on the adapters you provided the information here to purchase to power the led strip correctly? I’ve tried so the adapters here at home. I’m irritated because I’ve already placed it on the TV (3M double sided tape)

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  ปีที่แล้ว

      I need some specifications of the LED strip. What current and voltage it operates at will determine what adapter may be able to work with it. There may be some mismatch also. It it is 5V only, the current will be potentially high, or peak very high, which may cause many adapters to reset, this is why PD negotiates higher voltages from power adapters. But even still a 0 - 100 watt instant demand will reset most 100W adapters since it sees this as a fault.

    hi, what do you think about the ugreen 140watt charger? i've just bought it , and i'm worryed about the safety because I'll use it to charge my macbook...
    If it's bad , could you suggest me the best charger betweeen 120w and 140w?
    PS : I had spent 75 euros to buy it, and if it's not good enough , and you suggest me to buy another one , I would like that the advice follow the same price line
    PS2: For example, right now for the same price (always on amazon) I can buy the Baseus 140w charger. I've choose the ugreen 140w because his look is better for me, but the most important thing is the safety, so now I'm scared to have done a bad choise.
    PLESE , HELP ME
    (sorry for my English but I'm italian)

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The ugreen is fine, honestly the build quality is about on par with what I have seen from Baseus. The issue I have with UGREEN is they don't always go through the full compliance testing suite to make sure the product is actually safe. On the higher voltage in Italy I'd probably want that. You will likely end up with the tingling feeling on the metal body of the macbook if the mains leakage through the supply is not well handled, and I think you will have that issue with both the UGREEN and the Baseus 140W adapters if you use it while plugged in. I don't think you will do damage to the machine in either case.

    The huge difference in score between the 65W and 100W baseus made me wonder. What was wrong with the 65W one? Is it price to power ratio or was there some problem with the electrical aspects of the device? I bought that one (it was 40% cheaper) and I don't really have use for 100W right now, but now I am second guessing myself :E

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's all electrical performance. The 65W will work but at least for me 4 ports with enough power sharing became the issue. Even if the total I need is far under 100 watts then also getting the better electrical performance as a bonus. A LOT of people buy the 65W category because the watts meet requirements.

      My choice out of that bunch would be the Samsung 45W. The UGREEN products in general have been okay but lack some safety listings which can be a concern. The 30W UGREEN adapters I've tested I don't remember being all that good. The 65W, tested recently, seemed okay.

    Could you give me a reason why most of high watt adaptor get better score than low watt adaptor?

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, lower wattage adapters are non-sinusoidal power consumers. The PQS expects a current waveform to match a voltage waveform. It basically leads to, as I state, an extra watt or two of power consumption in these lower power adapters. In general at lower wattages not a big deal. As power increases the loss multiplies so by the time to get to 100 watts or so it adds up to a reasonable amount of loss which is why at this power level many adapters consume power sinusoidally.

    My laptop only supports up to 65w PD, but the CS said that it won't charge if it gets less than 65 watts (20V at 3.25A), so if I get one with 65w max, when I charge my laptop the additional part of the adapter would become useless, right? Do you think it is better for me to get the 100 watts instead? Thanks anyways

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, if you want to go 65W I would get a single port adapter since as you said the other port won't work. If you want to charge a smaller device or two while using the laptop then a 100W adapter is a better option. Note that on any plug and unplug there is some renegotiation and depending on which device you get the power on each port may be different, so you have to pick the 'correct' port.
