      Yeah, a video covering instrumentation is probably not a bad idea. I've tried covering it in pieces of videos but like here, if I did, it would get skipped, so maybe dedicated pieces may do better (they'll be very low performing videos but help the people who do want to learn a little more). I am mostly pointing to voltage for modes of operation, or power consumption / power being supplied. Units change on the displays also so, it's a lot to pick up on. I've been reading instruments like this for so long I just move quickly through it.

    Great work letting us know which power adapters are great and which ones aren't. Have you ever come across the Anker A2613 PowerPort Atom III GAN 60W USB-C power adapter introduced in 2019? I've been using one consistently for 4+ years now with a MacBook Air, instead of the included 30W power adapter. The MacBook Air can pull up to 47W + an additional 7W taken from Apple's official USB-C multiport adapter. When using the included 30W power adapter with the hub, additional power would be pulled from the notebook's battery when processor or graphics-intensive tasks occur. I've known Anker to make good chargers reinforced by your testing of the Anker GanPrime A2343, Anker Nano II & III Series, etc. There is one product that got me concerned, and that is the Anker A2672 317 100W power adapter. After watching your video with the 317, I became a bit concerned to know that Anker would make such a poorly designed product (I almost bought one). It is currently a top seller on Amazon. I am now curious to know how "clean" the DC output is on my Anker A2313. Anker now appears to be using the 3, 5, and 7 series (3 being budget, 5 being middle class, and 7 being high class). I do not know which tier my A2613 falls into. In the near future, I was planning to upgrade it to the Anker A2679 Nano III 100W power adapter, but I am a bit hesitant as I am seeing quite a few customers claiming that it has a high failure rate due to heat. New Anker power adapters have shown up on Apple's online store, but their prices will probably hold them back; for example, the 30W Anker is the same price as the official Apple 30W power adapter. I don't know about you, but most Apple customers will likely choose the bulkier Apple power adapter over the smaller Anker GAN power adapter given that prices are comparable.

      Belkin is always an option, the Anker 737,747, or 240W have plenty of power but you'd need two, or one big one and an Ikea adapter or something. At 5 devices, you probably will end up with two chargers still for maximum efficiency. If you want to sacrifice some efficiency, ie make more heat, less lifetime of the device, the Anker 200W has 6 ports and is on sale a lot.

    Thanks for doing all this testing but I still have questions. I want an adapter that can handle 100W sustained for at least 2 hours and Can do PPS so like a real versatile adapter that can replace a laptop adapter but still charge basically everything at max speed. I want it to be as small as possible what would you recommend? I'm also open to something bigger than the anker 2343 if it is way thermally better but I do want it to be small and I'm unsure how quickly it throttles. You said the new one throttles in 30 mins but the old one you didn't do the same type of thermal testing in the old video from what I saw.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  23 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Visually added thermal testing later on. It ran for an hour. If you need a 100 watt sustained output though I would upsize the power adapter, so at least 1.5 times preferably 2 times. Kind of like you do for PC power supplies. Total components are 500W you buy a 800W or 1000W power supply. From this video the Anker 240W is probably it. The Satechi 165W is the runner up in the group 5, but out for it's higher idle power usage which is of course more complicated than a single number metric.

      It's still my daily driver. It's still really good. But going more standards focused, it doesn't meet DOE VI. TOO many idle watts. Which it more than makes up for by being more efficient than pretty much everything else if you actually use it but the standards don't account for anything like that and in general the market has lower idle power usage devices now. So, if buying today, I'd probably get the Anker 240W over the Satechi 165W.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  หลายเดือนก่อน

      65W out, and 100W available is a good size bump to keep things cooler and longer lasting. For power banks, they can suffer early failure because of overheating electronics too, most of the time that's what breaks not the battery (baring dropping or abuse conditions, charging it when it's frozen or been in the sun, those kill the battery), the Anker 250W power bank is an example, in reality no ones going to push it to 250 watts. Under a normal workload it might see 150 watts continuously, which is still a lot but it can handle that. At 250 it overheats quickly and shuts down.

      Yes, it is. The components get worse if you make the parts thinner. Transformers 'leak' more, capacitors have higher ESR and ESL. With the USB negotiation, it should be perfectly okay to charge a small device from even a large charger. The charger doesn't decide how much power to supply, the device does, as long as it's not a bad actor. Example, directly connecting the battery to the USB port or something and relying on a bad USB charging cable to be the 'resistor', they exist, see USB cables video where one catches on fire. But even the cheap junk box earbuds I tore down the batteries had protection chips. I have no issues using my 165W satechi charger to charge my earbud case or my watch.

    Travel chargers with changeable pins are great for airplanes as you can switch to the less worn sockets

      Yeah, I use a power bank on the plane, mostly because, yeah, the bricks fall out too easily.

    The 240W is not available in EU, would you recommend the 250W or the 200W Prime Chargers?
    Thanks for your videos!

      Neither of those were particularly good for different reasons.

    Why is Anker A2343 better than the their newer models? Is it because of power distribution, or something else else?

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The lightning fast distribution and better stability over time (at higher temps which is both a blessing and a curse). The newer one shuts down really soon, the older one will break itself. The other issue is the newer one, although marginally more efficient, chooses to not use the power factor correction until high wattage (half or more usage), so even though it measured at the wall socket about the same, in reality it will use more power versus the older one.

      Super detailed response, thanks!
      There is also a previous version that has "dynamic" power distributions, Anker 737 Charger I think. Did you ever test this one? Any thoughts on the whole iq4 dynamic power distribution thing? Probably less important on a 100W charger, but on the 65-70W chargers dyanmic power distirbution seems like a fantastic feature. Anker used it in one release, but then stopped doing it though.

    I bought the Anker 737 Charger (due to your recommendation and it's small form factor), and it good I can charge my laptop, phone and battery bank at the same time. It dose heats up a bit but not to the point where it uncomfortable. Thank you for your work.

      Yeah, that charger or the 150W charger is so close to being on this list. Thanks for sharing!

    Great video! Thank you so much for it!
    Would love to see your tests on the EGO 300W Exinno+ charger (They also have a 240W and 180W ones that look literally identical) as well as their EGO 300W Extreme CP 10-port charger.
    For my setup I need something reliable, safe and with reasonable temps, powering a laptop or two, 2 small cameras like the Insta360 X4 and DJI Pocket 2 and a couple of tube and panel LED lights (so 6 ports at least, a selection of USB-C and USB-A would be nice to have). All in a reasonable weight and dimensions since it would be used on stage and travel in my gigbag with tons of other gear.
    I assume something like this is not out yet so I'm keeping an eye on your channel and waiting for the next technological miracle✨
    Thank You so much for Your videos, such content is infinitely valuable in such a huge market🙏

      Yeah, the ego stuff is what I call higher risk, I have tested some of what they are selling under other brands. Like the idst unit there are reasons to keep looking but I'm pretty strict. I'd contact ego and see if they can meet your needs.

    Do you think you'd be able to test ZMI/Cuktech chargers? Would be really interested if Xiaomi's charger OEM is capable of making good Power Delivery chargers and even Powerbanks.

      I did the 65w range and smaller of both for chargers, I don't think I made a video, they're normal basic chargers. No surprises. Power banks I have to do more of.

      It's a bit more than you need, it doesn't have PPS, so some phones will only charge in the slow(er) boat.

  • @omix

    For the Pixel 9 Pro XL max 37w charge, do charge adapters have to meet exactly this PPS values or it can vary?
    "PPS: up to 11V/3A, 16V/3A, 21V/2.25A max 45W"
    Thank you for these helpful videos.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It can vary, that is in fact the point of PPS, or programmable power supply, so it adjusts to what the device wants.
