- In this video you can enjoy the cab ride - train drivers view along the Worlds most beautiful Railway between Tirano, Italy and St. Moritz, Switzerland, part 1 from Tirano to Cavaglia in the resolution 4K/60 frames per second.
It passes on Bernina Pass and it is the highest rail crossing in Europe and the third-highest railway in Switzerland reaching a height of 2,253 metres. It also ranks as the highest adhesion railway of the continent, and - with inclines of up to 7% - as one of the steepest adhesion railways in the world. The elevation difference on the section between the Bernina Pass and Tirano is 1,824 m, which makes it the open air railway with the greatest height difference.
On 7 July 2008, the Bernina Railway and the Albula Railway, which also forms part of the RhB, were recorded in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, under the name Rhaetian Railway in the Albula / Bernina Landscapes. The whole site is a cross-border joint Swiss-Italian heritage area.
Trains operating on the Bernina Railway include the Bernina Express where the train negotiates the 55 tunnels, 196 bridges and inclines of up to 70 per mille with ease.
In this part of the video the train passes famous Brusio spiral viaduct.

What a spectacular ride. Gorgeous scenery and day. It still amazes me about the timing of the various trains so they don't collide. I am looking forward to seeing Part 2.

This was a wonderful video. I have seen it on other channels and loved this exact trip. Your camera and panoramic views were awesome and incredible. I got a kick out of the open-air cars at the rear. Only back from doing this journey, although I think we took the train in Switzerland and bused it to St Moritz from the highest part of the pass.!!! Love to go back and do the full journey in the winter.

I love this route, it's beautiful to watch in both directions. I have seen this route on another channel, however this video has a more natural sound of the train, horn and chimes of the crossings. I am from Canada and if I ever have the chance to visit Switzerland, I would love to ride this train. I am not sure how accurate your elevation reading is on the screen, it seems to be changing awfully quickly even on a flat area.
@jwatchorn hi, thank you for your feedback. The speed and elevation data are GPS based and at the moment I was producing that video I just started to use those data and the settings of the program I use was not optimal. Thats why the quick changes. I always write in the description that the speed and other displayed data are not very accurate. But they still give us an idea of the actual speed. And the line really is amazing. I enjoyed travelling on that line very much.

Les trains sont beaux, le paysage est beau, la Suisse est le paradis du train parce que les suisses aiment le train, parce que les grèves sont très rares chez SBB-CFF-FFS et les autres compagnies du pays... En France, si les trains roulaient au milieu de la route, l'indiscipline des automobilistes provoquerait des catastrophes.
J'adore le sifflet de ce train, il me rappelle celui des locos à vapeur de mon jeune temps.

Nice video. But on the presentation miniature, the material shown is not an ABe 8/12 but a pilot car for the trains between Pontresina and Scuol-Tarasp. The ABe 8/12 "Allegra" are numbered from 3501 to 3515.😉

I like to point out that around @7:40 the train crosses the border from Italy to Switzerland. The big sign that used to be there is now gone and only my memory of that sign remains.
It has to be nice to take a well known journey again through this video. Thank you for sharing this info with us.

How is the height measured? How can it raise for 20 meters on 53:43 while standing still? Beautiful video anyway!
Thank you for your comment. The speed and the altitude measures are based on the GPS data and sometimes can be inaccurate.
It seems like the GPS is compensating, because it depends on how accurate it is at pointing, you know that disclaimer about precision, for example: within 5m or 10, or 50. This point of stop is about 1390m, but the beginning of the stop is 10m lower. As soon as you are leaving the stop, the elevation is already above 1400m. So, this may be a possible explanation, or just a part of it.

@長元坊 I have never been to Japan, so I cant tell, but I think that Slovene landscape is similar too. But Swiss Alps are higher and greater and Swiss managed to build the lines over high passes and everything seems so organised.

@Marino Proton I guess they maintain the the tracks well. In general, Switzerland is very clean and organised.
How it is possible climb up to 7% if the maximum percentage of railways no cog is 1,5 for a non distributed traction, and 4 for a distributed traction.
Probably it's 7x1000, not 7x100

I was really disappointed in this video because it had the potential to be fantastic. Instead, the videographer kept panning the camera away from the track, trying to give his viewers too much of the experience, which invariably ruins it for me.
I appreciate your comment. I am trying my best, but it is difficult to please everyone. Some people like one thing and some just the opposite.
