When you take a trip in Europe like this, you should decide yourself: Do I want to travel fast, or do I want to travel scenic but slow routes. What you presented, is a mix of both. The fast trains from zurich to milano go by tunnel and are a lot quicker then your route. One problem in Paris is the missing central station for all trains in all directions. You have to use the Paris metro to change from your arrival TGV station to the next departure station. That cost quite a bit of time. In London they solved this problem very good and changed the ending of the Eurostar line from Waterloo international to St.Pancras station in the nothern part of the city. So yoe can skip the London tube, when your heading to Edinburgh or Birmingham.
I liked the lack of commentary. So many vloggers stick their face in the screen all the time. It gets a bit tedious. This was great. Enough text to tell us what's happening. Thank you.
Reminds me travelling to Italy every summer as a child by train, this was before the Eurostar. We went from London Victoria to Dover then Dover to Calais. At Calais we then got the train to Paris Gard du Nord then a taxi to Paris Gard du Sud. It was then one train from Gard du Sud overnight to Milano. Sleeping in the train at night as a child was an adventure in itself. 👍
"Paris Gard du Sud" You mean Gare de Lyon, perhaps look it up. There is a Gare (note spelling) du Sud but it' was in Nice before it was converted to a food market.
Yeah, we used to do that in the ‘60’s but they used split trains a lot in those days and we went from Calais through Paris to Zurich, changed early morning to Milan then changed for Bologna and finally an extremely slow train (with park benches for seats) to Rimini. Another option was Ostend to Bern via Luxembourg then change for Milan etc.
I travelled by train London to Milan in the sixties a few times as a child partly by steam train and partly by electric train. I still remember the scenic route particulatly Switzerland and northern Italy. This video has prompted me to consider doing the trip again.
I live north of Venice in Pordenone and have been to Venice, what? a +100 times? Still, when I emerge from Santa Lucia and there is Canal Grande only one word in Italian for La Serenissima and that is: "Mozzafiato". Every time even for me. Venezia is indeed Unica. Viva L'Italia.
I live in Australia now but each time I visited Italy I always HAD to go to Venice. Yes when you exit the station it truly is "breathtaking" there is no other word for it and no other place like it.

This was such a treat for me to see. In 1969 I spent June, July, and August in Europe. Of course, we crossed the Channel by ship and went on to Paris for 3 and a half weeks. Then Montreux for 5 days after which we took the train from Zurich to Rome, stopping in Milan. Thank you for this.

Currently (September 2023) the railway and motorway leading to the Frejus tunnels are interrupted on French territory. 6:43 This is the exact spot you crossed the border ! Mulhouse-Basel is my commuter line… At Hubs like Basel, Zürich or Chur trains arrive around the same time and leave around the same time 5-10 minutes later to enable short transfer times. All sorts of transport are included in corresponding timetables across the whole nation… P.S.: I hate what Venice has become since the 1990’s… I worked in the 80’s in a dining car between Basel and Venice with a 22 hour overnight stay - I know every single pathway in the city and surrounding islands. I’m so sad .
It is curious that between Basel SNCF and the border the trains keep right hand as in Alsace, but that the Swiss signals are placed to the left of the track they control, as happens in the rest of the Swiss federal railway network! Probably here in Italy such a situation would not be allowed. What was the name of the train connecting Basel to Venice and which included the restaurant car where you worked? Was it an Italian dining car? I used the one that traveled as part of the train from Rome Termini to Basel SBB via Gottardo. Have you met the legendary Tempini of the equally legendary SSG? He filled glasses with Kirsch from Zug from a height of one metre!
@@Luigi-uj5ml The signals are on both sides of the track because trains are able to use both sides equally in both directions, like the most SBB lines too. I was employed by the SSG from Basel via Bern- Brig- Milano- Padova- V-Mestre- V-Sta. Lucia with a 22 hour stay in Venice. “We are arriving at Milano-Centrale , please make sure you stay with your belongings during the whole time of our stop!” No,I never met him. I knew some others who did it with Grappa in the Glacier Express…with the beveled glasses.
@@aoilpeCertainly, but if you pay attention, along the route between Basel (Gare de Bâle SNCF) and the border, the Swiss signals have been placed to the left of the track they control, while in Alsace the SNCF signals are normally to the right of the right track .

Buongiorno sig. Lupi,
la stazione di Tirano RhB è su territorio italiano ma a tutti gli effetti una stazione Svizzera. Ogni biglietto emesso così come i souvenir venduti allo sportello sono soggetti all’IVA Svizzera.
Cordialmente

6:43 This is the exact spot you crossed the border !
Mulhouse-Basel is my commuter line…
At Hubs like Basel, Zürich or Chur trains arrive around the same time and leave around the same time 5-10 minutes later to enable short transfer times.
All sorts of transport are included in corresponding timetables across the whole nation…
P.S.: I hate what Venice has become since the 1990’s…
I worked in the 80’s in a dining car between Basel and Venice with a 22 hour overnight stay - I know every single pathway in the city and surrounding islands.

The signals are on both sides of the track because trains are able to use both sides equally in both directions, like the most SBB lines too.
I was employed by the SSG from Basel via Bern- Brig- Milano- Padova- V-Mestre- V-Sta. Lucia with a 22 hour stay in Venice.
“We are arriving at Milano-Centrale , please make sure you stay with your belongings during the whole time of our stop!”
No,I never met him.
Great trip. Please make more this trip report like this or making coach trip report in this channel.
More to come!
