I work in public transportation in the USA and it makes me so jealous to see how advanced and well planned out European transportation is. We are decades, if not a century behind in the US. It’s pathetic how much the auto industry has monopolized transportation here.
@@RailRelaxation Absolutely. You can easily draw the Amtrak network on a single sheet of paper, looks like the bus net of a small town. Except the bus would run every hour rather than 3 times a week. Local passenger trains in the US are a bit like subways in Europe: Only the absolutely biggest cities have them.

Familiar scenery for me. I live in Düsseldorf and I took the Schwebebahn many times by now. It's the main attraction when you're in Wuppertal and a unique experience. Fun fact: Düsseldorf itself has a suspension railway at the airport. As well as Dortmund at it's university. You could say that the Rhine-Ruhr area is the main region for suspension railways :)

I used to live in Wuppertal in the '70's and loved it! Someday I would love to go back! I'm sure that I wouldn't recognize it! I used to take the Schwebebahn and the Strassenbahn to work every day. It was fun!
I mean I don't wish to sound overly negative, since it's a cool and useful method, but I do think it still negatively impacts the aspect of the river and the look of the city.

I first saw this in a book in the early 50’s with the Wuppertal trams running underneath. When I finally got to ride it in the 1990’s it was one big tick on my bucket list. Since then I have ridden on it many times. There is a cracking brauhause at the eastern end! There is a short line in Dresden but it is in the form of a funicular. Great video, but pity that you didn’t get a ride round the loop at the ends.

I was born and grew up in Wuppertal, but haven't lived there for a long time. There's a small mistake at 8:50, because it says Loher Brücke. Many people don't realise that the Bayer company was founded in Wuppertal. At 25:00, I think it should be called soccer, football would be something else. Thanks for the journey 👍
I well recall in 1950 on a train from the Hook of Holland to Iserlohn whilst In thee British Army when I saw this overhead gantry suspended train over a river in Wuppertal which did surprise me being unlike anything I have ever seen before. But if my memory serves me right the train was colour red and more futuristic than current being torpedo shape.

Außerdem hört man keine typischen Geräusche des DMI und keine Funksprüche. Dafür aber Windgeräusche. Die Position ist auch sehr weit rechts! Das gleiche bei Deiner Führerstandsmitfahrt bei Nacht. Versteh mich nicht falsch. Deine beiden Videos sehen wirklich toll aus. Aber da ich selbst als Fahrer diese Bahn in Wuppertal fahre, würde ich sagen, das war nicht in der Fahrerkabine. 38:20 Der Fahrer der entgegenkommenden Bahn war ich. Habe es gerade im Dienstplan nachgeschaut.

bei minute 3:02 wurde geschrieben Düsseldorf-Dortmund railline allerding stimmt das nicht ganz da es die Wupperbahn ist und diese führ von Köln nach Hagen, Wuppertal-Düsseldorf ist nur eine stich strecke für den nahverkehr.

The Wupper seems to offer significant head. If someone were to put a weir upstream and run the water into a long penstock, they could harvest a bit of power from it.
It uses ETCS Level 2 signalling (no lights, all radio controlled) but it is (again) a unique solution as it usea TETRA for radio communications and not GSM-R.
fantastic. In 2019 when I was visiting Germany I took a day trip out to Wuppertal from Dusseldorf specifically to ride this train from end to end! ✌️😄

The Shonan Monorail in Ofuna, Japan has been twinned with the Wuppertal Schwebebahn since 2018. 😊
I first traveled on the Schwebebahn in 1964 when I was in the 🇬🇧 Army serving in Germany. I think you will find it’s older than you think 21:27

Stimmt nicht ganz, in Siegen hat man überlegt so eine Strecke zu bauen, die Topographie ist ähnlich Wuppertal. Wurde zu den Akten gelegt.

Aber die Fahr- und Türgeräusche gefallen mir nicht - da waren die alten Wagen besser. Dieses Klack und roll,roll,roll der Türen hätte man in die neuen Wagen übernehmen müssen. Hat meine Jugend geprägt und ist immer noch präsent...

bei minute 3:02 wurde geschrieben Düsseldorf-Dortmund railline allerding stimmt das nicht ganz da es die Wupperbahn ist und diese führ von Köln nach Hagen, Wuppertal-Düsseldorf ist nur eine stich strecke für den nahverkehr.

The Wupper seems to offer significant head. If someone were to put a weir upstream and run the water into a long penstock, they could harvest a bit of power from it.
Can’t wait to go on it staying in Wuppertal for the Euros so me and my wee boy 100% going on it

Are they using ERTMS for signalling or just the signs as block markers for some other cab-based system (the blue sign with the yellow arrow)
It uses ETCS Level 2 signalling (no lights, all radio controlled) but it is (again) a unique solution as it usea TETRA for radio communications and not GSM-R.
