  • Here are some takeaways from the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Thankfully there was still plenty of action below 1st place and Haas, Ferrari and Mclaren all delivered. Meanwhile Mercedes and Williams kinda didn't.

What did you think of the "new" tactics used by Haas?

It must sting a bit for Sargent seeing Ollie come in at such short notice straight from F2 and do so well. I know 2 different cars, 2 different teams. But it has to have Williams thinking and it has to sting Logan just a bit.

Horses for courses, remember Devries came in and scored for Williams on his debut and looked like a superstar, then flopped at Alphatauri. But you're right, Williams will lose patience at this rate.

Haas did a great job capitalizing on the current rules and regulations to score points. And valid point that if RB were faster, why couldn't they get past K Mag? However, in the era of DRS trains, I feel like they should go back to stop-and-go and drive through penalties to prevent these tactics. Otherwise, this could be a common occurrence from other teams where the driver is penalized but the team gains an advantage by sacrificing that driver to hold up the rest of the field.

Very good point, stop/go and drive through penalties were perfect, the issue is solved right there and then so we can get on with the race. Either way, full credit to Haas!

    Komatsu Japanese work ethics :-
    Problems and Countermeasures...
    Kaizen meaning improvements...
Maybe F1 needs a new driver to make it less boring because with current drivers the outcome pretty much predictable....☝️
Please or we need changes ( drivers )in F1 😎

Love it! Better than the Steiner work ethic - shout and swear.

I wonder when Daimler's patience will run out with the Merc F1 team. I'm half-tempted to predict that Merc will be called something else by 2026. They seem to be falling apart and rapidly losing talent. I'm not sure if Hamilton's seat will be as coveted as it looks. They kind of remind me of McLaren in 2009/10/11/12 - those cars were mostly shockers.

I've also wondered the same thing. Especially if Merc don't get it together after the 2026 reg changes. With all their past success the only way is down and perhaps Daimler could sell their share of the team in the future. A lot to unpack there for sure.

A bit of the aul' "Brit bias" is excused but when you look at it objectively, Bearman's drive was nothing spectacular, bringing home the second fastest car on the grid in P7 without scratches is OK but nowhere near the impressive performances of Nyck Debris (scoring a point in a bloody Williams) or Liam Lawson (wiping the floor with his seasoned teammate) on debut.
And "dDriver of the day" shoulda been Kevin Magnussen... ;)

Even if he was from North Korea I'd still say it was spectacular

@@thegridgab More interesting question is, where do they gonna put him? Lulu will be chasing title #8 with Ferrari for a few years and his future wingman has a contract until the end of 2028. Haas is surely cured from "rookie experiments" (Marzipan, Schumacher) and Ferrari never held any sway over Haas regarding a seat. Alfa Romeo was a different story (Giovinazzi) but that ship has sailed. Sure, Schumacher came from the Ferrari academy but he was more or less a free agent with massive sponsor backing (1&1) at the time.
Bearman's options with Ferrari seem rather limited. Maybe McLaren, if Lando is getting trashed by Oscar this year, young British talent could replace him. ;)
But more important for Bearman is F2 this year, where he is plum last, miles off his teammate Kimi Anonelli. ;)

Haas or maybe Sauber before they become Audi? Both have Ferrari engines

    • @aoife1122
      @aoife1122 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@thegridgab Sauber have their own "problem child" to look after, Theo Pourchaire. And remember? Sauber cancelled the Ferrari deal and wanted to partner with Honda. When that deal blew up, Peter Sauber had to crawl back to Modena hat in hand and Ferrari (Alfa Romeo) put the screws tight, very much deciding who was driving for Sauber (Leclerc, Räikkönen, Giovinazzi). This "agreement" ended immediately when the Audi partnership was announced.
With Haas, their soon-to-be last remaining engine customer, Ferrari never had a say in such matters. Both Magnussen and Huelkenberg have solid sponsor backing and having "pay drivers" is very important for Haas. Either Bearman is going to "outsponsor" one of the current drivers on his own or Ferrari will have to pay big $$$ for Bearman's ride. But why would they invest heavily in the development of a driver for whom they have no plans in the foreseeable future? After Elkann's Hamilton stunt, Ferrari will have no vacancies for years to come. If anything, Bearman has become a liability now. His hopes surely have to be somewhere outside the Ferrari "universe". Unless of course Charles Leclerc is taking a hike... because one thing is certain, being Hamilton's next "Bottas" is not what he signed up for last year. ;)
