I've been wearing long skirts and dresses exclusively since I was 28 years old. I'm 56 now. 😉
My normal wardrobe had been biking shorts or leggings with tees or bra tops or mini skirts.
When I felt a conviction about my modesty, I bought my first long dress. On that very first day of wearing it, I was standing at the stove stirring oatmeal when my oldest child ( only 5 at the time ) came running into the kitchen. He saw me as he flew by and skidded to a stop in his socks. He turned and said, " Mom, you look BEAUTIFUL"!! Then he was off! I was left crying into the oatmeal as I realized he had never said that before. 🥰
I have soooo many stories about the decision to dress this way. Too many to write here. I think I'll write them down for my own family....
Thank you, Nikki, for sharing yours. ❤️

Wearing dresses can be a cheaper way of dressing, than wearing a top and bottom. Here in the UK a top and bottom can cost about £50. A dress can be about £40, in a sale around £25, in a charity shop less than £10.

When I was a child, my parents used to go dancing every Saturday night. I loved to watch my Mum put on her pretty evening dresses, curl her hair and put on her make-up. I loved watching her put on her lipstick. So feminine and glamorous. She also wore dresses or skirts every day. Only ever had one pair of trousers for heavy gardening work like digging.

I love how Kate Middleton mixes both pants and dresses. Always looks so feminine and elegant. I believe when you first start a feminine journey dresses only is a must. Once you've mastered femininity you can make every outfit. Also, to wear pants and look ladylike you have to be in good physical shape. Ladies today are not in the same physical shape as Jackie or Audrey and Kate Middleton. Dresses are a true friend for all women but especially today, many are over weight and not toned.

I worked in surgery for several years and was often “on call.” My call partner would come to the hospital at 2:00 a.m. in a dress, nylons, heels and often a fur coat. She always looked amazing regardless of the time of day.

When you said you felt soemthjng inside even though nobody said a thing. Wow! I just told my husband yesterday that I felt convicted to dress like a lady , I feel so icky in my bun and oversized T’s and jeans , my little girl is wearing short shorts and we ran into a family that only wears dresses and I asked her to “pull your shorts down” I feel the conviction not just for modesty alone but to feel like the ladies we are! My girly is only 5 and loves skirts and dresses!

I've watched your channel for years. I think this was one of my favorites. I know there is a small representation of women on TH-cam who embrace their femininity and are not afraid to share that. I consider you all fearless leading ladies and appreciate you all. I am considerably older than you...growing up in the early50's & 60's. More women were joining the workforce by the 60's. Most women wore dresses and coiffed hair in the 50's but around the 60's I remember seeing women begin to wear pants. The first job I applied for I wore a dress, heels and white gloves. Women wearing white gloves regularly to church and always a pretty hanky in their handbag was common. So, I didn't lack lady like inspiration. Then pants suits for women came out and for several years, dresses were almost a rarity. I wanted to maintain and even further develop my femininity as In my very young years I was more of a "tomgirl" I was never sure exactly how. I, like you, watched for examples around me. Forward to marriage and raising a family consisting of all boys, I fell into the habit of wearing pants except for the occasional dress to church.
Of course the style of pants throughout the years evolved many times...some more flattering to the female body than others.
I remember once several years ago seeing a women bent over in jeans. As hard as I tried to not look, I couldn't help it and I thought to myself...wow....that's what it looks like when I bend over too and that's what a man would see if one were around. How dishonoring to not only myself but to my husband a well, as that's not a view to be shared with other men. Then I heard you one day say that you were not going to wear pants anymore and one reason you gave was that it does not look nice when a woman bends over in pants. It was good to hear a younger woman say the same thing. My closet began filling up with more dresses. To be honest, I can't say that I never wear pants. I rarely wear pants in the summer but winters in the Midwest can be brutally cold. I haven't figured out yet how to style a dress and look appropriate for my age in the winter nor do I see many dresses in a fabric weight that seems right for winter. One thing for sure, in the winter months when I wear more pants, I am much more aware of being more modest...but let's face it...nothing drapes and conceals our feminine secrets like a lovely dress. Thank you Nikki for sharing your story. Keep reaching out with your leading lady example. ❤

I just got home from an extended trip. We went to Turkey 🇹🇷 Greece 🇬🇷 and The Dalmatian Coast. I couldn’t help but notice the beautiful clothing some women wore in these countries. Gorgeous silk fabrics in dresses, scarves and skirts just would float gently on the women. How the women dressed contributed to the beauty of the towns we would walk through. I wore dresses myself on this trip. None of my clothes were as pretty as some I saw. I even would sneak a photo of an outfit that looked particularly stunning. I will always remember these lovely ladies. Maybe I can aspire to come a bit closer to that ideal. Nikki, you inspire me.

    Good day, Nikki,
I am a Delois and an Elaine!
Although I feel loved and respected by many of the younger women in the church, I sometimes feel as though my personal style and clothing choices go unnoticed. I, too, love wearing dresses and skirts every day (as most girls did in the 60's and 70's) and have been doing so for most of my 62 years.
It is encouraging to hear that we are not only seen but can serve as positive examples of femininity. The way we dress speaks of our womanhood without us having to say a word.
You are a humble and beautiful young woman.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts in the video.

I love so many of your videos, but, yes, this just may be my favorite. It brings me to tears to hear your encouragement to continue being an example to the ladies around us. Twice in the last little while, one of the young ladies at our local grocery store has commented about how pretty my dresses are. It warms my heart to think that she noticed and that it could be an influence in her life to dress more femininely as well. With all the push back in our culture to wear pants, it's so inspiring to hear you remind us that yes, people do notice and are influenced by our quiet example. Thank you Nikki❤

I was so confused on why other staff would treat me like I was a kid until I realized I was was wearing a lot of the same clothes the other kids were! Yesterday I and my husband were at a cafe getting coffee and a woman with a little girl at the counter reached forward on one foot to grab something. She was wearing short shorts and what I saw will haunt me forever. I'm being facetious, but it's so easy to show more than you intend if you wear short shorts. I don't think anyone should ever wear them outside the house. It was 110 degrees outside, but wearing a full-length caftan is still better - and cooler.

Nikki, this was a lovely video.
You’ve clearly shown how as women we are influencers in a positive, Christian light.
It’s simple. We are influenced consciously or unconsciously. Therefore, we influence other in the same way.
I think that there are women that want to wear dresses, but hesitate because it is (sadly), nonconformist.
Once someone breaks through the gate, so to speak, others may follow.
Frankly, not only are dresses more flattering, but more comfortable.
Here in the South, that is certainly the case.
I’ve just purchased another dress to wear boating. Now I have a few that I can swap out.
They are of course casual, so my boat sneakers will work with them. At least, I think so.
I think that it’s fun and exciting that you and your followers are gently influencing girls and women to stand tall and be proud of our femininity, given to us by God.
    Thank you for initiating it.

I think that pants can look feminine if you wear a beautiful blouse with it. Accessories can make the look feminine also. If pants are torn, are not in a style that suits the body shape and are made from fabric that is not good quality then of course the pants themselves won't look good. I don't like how athletic wear like leggings are worn as streetwear. THEY are not appropriate. I like wide leg jeans that fit well. Ladies at one stage had to cover their legs and wouldn't be allowed to show their ankles in a dress. I like pants for very casual wear especially in winter but I prefer dresses in the warmer weather. I will wear tailored trousers to church with a pretty blouse because to me it's feminine. 2.4 inches is a bit short for shorts. A longer in seam is more comfortable. I've had many people from church that were very judgmental of how I dressed away from church. You dress the way you WANT to dress and don't worry about what others think. You have to dress for you not others.

This was so heartfelt indeed! Thank you for sharing! I love how you saw others and that inspired you! I feel the same! I remember just doing what everyone else did following the cool trendy influencer thing and I NEVER truly felt like myself! I look back and shriek at the cuts I wore and the colors I wore (that never suited me)! I had practically no clothes on! I was so uncomfortable and didn’t even know it! So I saw a youtuber wearing skirts and dresses and I was like wow, people actually dress like this and it was so gorgeous and I loved it and so started to try that! I never felt more like myself than when I started dressing so feminine! Now I pretty much only wear dresses! It’s so interesting how our Western culture has so shifted away from that to whereas people always think I’m way overdressed and all I’m in is a simple dress! They are so chic, comfortable, easy, and I just love them! So I relate to how they make you feel! I also love the modesty of my dresses! My dresses have helped me step into how God made me - feminine! I love being a woman and showing that! I am so much more a woman now I feel like and dresses for me was a huge part of me stepping into my true self! 🤍🌷

This is a great video. There are moments for all of us, collected over time, that change us. Listening to your inspirations further pushed me in my evolution of clothing and other aspects.
I've also noticed your change in how you speak since earlier videos. Is that just for the camera or is speaking more slowly your natural rhythm? I know a woman who speaks very much like you and I find it more engaging and hope to adopt. Perhaps another series suggestion?

    • @TheLadyoftheHouse
      @TheLadyoftheHouse  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Thank you, Amanda! You're right, there are so many moments that shape us. I found it to be difficult to narrow down so many for the sake of this video.
As far as my speech pattern is concerned, When I first came on the TH-cam scene, it was pretty difficult just to get used to speaking to the camera. It took me a long time to learn that the way I would normally speak is okay. I remember receiving comments about how I spoke slow in the past that made me feel like I wasn't doing it right but the longer I had my channel, the more I felt comfortable with me and that several others found the way I spoke to be calming and appealing so I had something to offer in that way. I think we all have different speech patterns, especially given the circumstances. When I'm talking to my husband or parents and not feeling the need to filter as much of what I say, I may sound different than when I am really thinking through my words and choosing them carefully and then a completely different pattern when I'm speaking as a mother and giving instruction. If things have changed though, I would attribute it to feeling more comfortable to be myself in front of the camera. It makes me happy to know you feel the way I speak is more engaging as that's exactly what I would hope a person would feel 🌹

On the topic of feelings. Have you never been confronted with this: being feminine and elegant with your girl friends in jeans, shorts, t-shirts and so on and feeling ashamed for them, feeling guilty at the thought that THEY might feel ashamed of themselves? And also consider you posh, too conservative and the like.?

    • @TheLadyoftheHouse

I have never felt guilty. To me, if you wish to be inspired, you will be and many of my friends have been and now get to enjoy the beauty of their everyday lives too. I think others are just as happy with what they choose to do though and I wouldn't say I'm ashamed for them. Live and let live. If any don't wish to be around me because of such things, then I know they weren't truly my friend to begin with.

Nikki what a beautyful series two month. I thouroughely enjoyed them. Anthis one was the cherry on the cake.
My desire to wear dresses started in my childhood. We used to vision my moms great aunt who was a seamstress. She would always be beautyfully dressed for her day and only word dresses. Her hair was always well kept and so was her makeup. And then my precious mom always seemed so happy as a homemaker and even as a child a wanted to become a homemakerwhen I grow up. I have always loved wearing dresses. I really didn't look good in pants. I also had skirts and beautyful blouses. But under not so good influence of collegues at work I start wearing Bermuda shorts. I was a teacher on special needs education. But I am so happy now to wear beautyful dresses because I founa a excellent seamstres who makes my dresses according my designs. I am happy and blessed and enjoy wearing my beautyful dresses and yes all are made with pockets.

I have always loved dresses but after puberty (ahem, leg hair…) I moved to jeans and reserving dresses for church. Not until college did I start getting dresses I felt comfortable wearing dresses for “everyday” again. I am now working on building up my wardrobe so that I have dominantly a dress wardrobe. I am also trying to have more skirt/blouse sets but I am also trying to move away from polyester and it makes finding pretty blouses difficult. The great thing about even the most casual tshirt dress is you automatically look nicer than if wearing pants & tshirt, with zero effort.
Personally I don’t agree about pants being immodest (except for stuff like leggings which of course are not meant to be worn as pants despite modern opinion), however they do tend not to be as feminine. After wearing tshirt and jeans all of high school and college, I have rarely had occasion to wear my jeans since I have been wearing dressier pants for work. My work pants are so comfortable I am a hair away from donating my jeans all together because they really aren’t as comfortable as jeans advocates would have us believe.

    • @TheLadyoftheHouse
      @TheLadyoftheHouse  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It definitely depends on the pants, not all are created equal, the same with dresses as some of those can be very immodest too. In addition, I understand this subject is subjective. I wish you the best as you build your dress wardrobe 🌹

What you said about jeans resonated with me as I also feel that they show everything and prefer to wear dresses. I receive many comments. You’d think people would be aware that women wore them for centuries. Now we stand out in a crowd of black leggings and jeans everywhere we go. When you talked about Elaine and the embarrassment, I wanted to mention something about my son. The majority of women I think don't understand how influential they are to boys by how they dress. My son gets so embarrassed for women that show so much cleavage and wear tight yoga pants everywhere. He looks away, just like Elaine did with your picture. He feels shame for them and my husband does the same. I don't think a lot of women understand how immodest they are with how they dress. Especially in a time when they don't want to be seen as a sex object. Even in my church, I see cleavage everywhere. I just bought my first two dresses yesterday, because of your videos and look forward to feeling a lot more feminine. One of the dresses was so long my husband teased me about having to wear stilts to wear it, I'm only five feet tall and the shop lady giggled. Just having a hard time even finding dresses I like. If anyone has any brand or store suggestions, please let me know.

You can buy tights that are lined with fleece inside to wear under dresses. They are incredibly warm as they so close to the body.
You can put "nude style tights" in any search engine
They are very economical. They have a "black tights over nude legs" look - BUT they are completely opaque and your legs cannot be seen at all. They also come in many colors
Also a tall boot that ends above the hem of the dress (your tights will not be exposed)
For your top half, you can wear a turtle neck under your dress, and a long coat.
I also live in Ontario and this is keeps me very warm
      Hope this helps

I love a good vintage dress. Some of my most beautiful (well-made) dresses are from the 1950s-1970s. Local thrift stores price dresses around $3 and goodwill prices in my location are $6.50. I’m wondering if there’s a solution to it besides the terrible nylon type of shape wear that’s out there, especially in the heat of the summer. I prefer cotton based undergarments.
